Shut Up and Drive

Rate this book
A serial sex attacker is spreading fear in Stockport and DI Ted Darling and his team are on the case. The man randomly targets young women and abducts them from busy supermarket car parks. He's armed with a knife and is clearly highly trained in how to handle it. Ever-dwindling police resources make the manhunt harder still, even though the attacker clearly doesn't care whether or not he's caught. All his victims say he's dead behind the eyes. As the gripping thriller nears its climax, the dangerous predator becomes even more ruthless and his actions threaten the lives of more than one of the team members.

Considerably better than book 3 for me. That one - the previous book - somehow didn't work very well at all. I was a little apprehensive about this one as a result of that. However this is back to the form of the earlier books. Good enough story, characters etc and much better working of the pace and tension than the previous one. They are "light" books which I'd consider a holiday read really however they are much better than others I've read that are considered that by some.

I do like Ted as a character and the rest of his team continue developing nicely in this book. I'll read another and see where they get to when I want another read like this.

Shut Up And Drive is the fourth in the DI Ted Darling series which I absolutely loved, this is most definitely the best one yet. I have to say how much I love the cover, there is something really intriguing about it and after reading the book it totally suits the story.

So DI Ted Darling and his team are on a case for A serial sex attacker in Stockport. This man is very dangerous and randomly targets young women and abducts them from busy supermarket car parks. He's armed with a knife and is clearly highly trained in how to handle it. All his victims say he's dead behind the eyes. The dangerous predator becomes even more ruthless and his actions threaten the lives of more than one of the team members.

We get to learn more about Ted and Trevor and their background. And like I have said before the name Ice queen does make me giggle.I am sure there is more to come from her character.

Has with all L.M.Krier books sensitivity is show without her writing skills with the subject matter has there are some uncomfortable scenes that might make some readers cringe or your blood boil like it did me. But with the police side of things wow wow wow L.M Krier has definitely upped her game, talk about being a action packed thriller. I was literally on the edge of my seat with the build up of this climax willing Ted along. It was fantastic. I have to say Ted would make a brilliant television show.

Even though it is written has a series I feel that it can be read as a standalone. But the series is well worth reading has a whole. There is nothing not to like about DI Ted Darling. They are all page turners, the author knows how to keep the reader's attention from the very first page.

And for all you Ted fans out there, you are in for one hell of a treat. I can't tell you enough how much I enjoyed this book it is a easy 5 star read from me.

And I would just like to say thank you to L.M Krier for an advanced copy of this.

I've really enjoyed the first three books in this series but this one didn't grab me quite as much for some reason. Maybe it was because Trev was just too good to be true? In this book Ted and Trev's relationship seemed just too cutesy sweet. I mean who doesn't get a tiny bit cranky when their keeps having to work late and miss social engagements??

The story itself was good. DI Ted Darling's team is on the trail of a serial sex attacker who abducts women in their own cars from supermarket car parks and takes them to a deserted spot to rape them. The attacks are getting more vicious until one woman is killed. When members of their own team are threatened and attacked, they go into overdrive to catch the creep. There's not much more to it, It was a pretty simple plot - good, but not great.

Shut up and Drive.
Book 4 in this brilliant series.
Craig and his team are trying to find a guy that is raping women in supermarkets car parks. Eventually killing woman, with his knife.
Ted has a few personal problems he has to sort out as well as keeping his eyes on the case. From start to finish you will love this book.

Book 5 in the series and it gets better and better. Ted and his team are very familiar now and I really enjoy how the characters are developing and their interactions with each other. A serial rapist is on the lose and Ted and his team face a long , hard struggle to catch him which gets very personal. Ted is a very human detective- he cares about his team, he does follow procedure (which makes a refreshing change) but does sometimes end up in scrapes. I adore the relationship between Ted and Trev- to the author- they must die together in their nineties- I won't hear of a divorce or Trev being bumped off- No- that must not happen!

Character development and plot and writing are all excellent and makes for a very enjoyable first class read

Another cracking good read that DI Ted Darling fans have been eagerly waiting for.
This is the fourth book in the series and this time there are a series of sexual assaults on young women in Stockport supermarket car parks for DI Ted Darling and his team to investigate. Once more, a difficult topic is handled with sensitivity by the author. The crimes are both nasty and violent and the perpetrator needs to be caught quickly. DI Ted Darling and his team have yet another difficult case ahead of them.

I've been waiting for this one to come out and was kindly given a preview copy in exchange for an honest review.

There is something about DI Ted Darling and his partner Trev. You'd want them as friends, neighbours, brothers, colleagues or bosses. In fact I'd just like to move in with them both and their six cats. The author won't reveal exactly where they live though :)
The two characters of Ted and Trev in this crime-fiction series seem to have the same effect on other readers too and have developed quite a fan following. There are interesting snippets of their lives and background throughout all the books and with each new book release, inbetween the details of the cases and investigations, we learn a little more about them as individuals.
The character of DC Vine the female detective we were introduced to in 'When I'm Old and Grey' has settled more into her role in the team and plays a vital part in the investigation.

I'm just waiting for the next one in the series to come out now!

Really good series

I have just finished a marathon of all four books. Ted Darling's character is very well fleshed out as are the rest of the police officers. The plots are very interesting. These are not, thankfully, formula books that is the same book over and over again. Of the four books, Shut Up and Drive has been my least favorite. The DI has just lost it again and again to the point, to me, he's starting to feel like a weak, almost ineffectual cop. He also seems way too happy to leave his partner Trev alone far too frequently to "get his head on straight". It seems the relationship between the two is not strong and is starting to feel a bit fake to me. Trev is fine without Ted ever being around and is content to sit alone at home cooking to be able to put dinner on the table very very quickly no matter the time. I want to read more of these books, but I'd like to see a saner, stronger person who actually brings his partner I to the picture more as an equal instead of being a weak lap dog. All that being said, the first three books were page turners that I could not put down. An excellent series. I'm just really hoping that book five goes back to the original style of books one through three.

This series just keeps getting better. In this, the fourth book in the D.I. Ted Darling series his team are searching for a violent rapist. There appears to be no clues as to who is the perpetrator of these attacks and Ted is under pressure to come up with a result. Events take an even more disturbing turn when one of the team D.C Jezza Vine is also raped. This makes it personal and the stress of the situation is taking its toll on Ted. There are several plot twists in this fast-paced crime thriller and I read it practically in one sitting. I have become very fond of Ted and his partner Trev and as the series progresses we learn a bit more about each character which adds to the enjoyment, I feel we still have a lot to learn about them still. The author manages to weave in several strands to this tale and all are so cleverly done dealt with without excessive or graphic detail. It builds to a thrilling end which had me holding my breath. I can’t wait to read the next one.

The pressure increases...

DI Darling faces pressures and stress on a daily basis, that us mere mortals would surely crumble under, but he always bounces back...u til he doesn't!

Book 4 in the series has dedicated DI and his faithful and equally dedicated team devastated by more of the horrors humankind can a d do inflict on each other. A rapist and murderer who evades capture may be the last straw for my favourite DI. The loss of life and harm inflicted on those closest to him as well as the public takes Darling to the brink.

By book 4 I now feel a closeness to the charachters and found their suffering brought me close to tears. A testament to a brilliant author. The book ends on a cliffhanger which sees me moving swiftly on to book 5. Thank goodness I am an insomniac, I can't get enough of this series. A MUST READ!

This is the fourth in the series of books featuring Inspector Ted Darling and the best so far. Darling is a sympathetic and credible policeman who inspires affection and loyalty in his team and respect from his seniors. All of the characters are well drawn and their back stories interesting. The plot is fascinating and the book is a real page turner. I await number 5 later this year, not least to find out which song title Lesley will use as its title!

I was introduced to DI Ted Darling by a friend and so far have read the first 4 books in the series one after the other! I love the speed and scope of the story and the backgrounds of Darling's crew. The characters are well drawn and Ted and Trevor are a charming couple, we should all be so lucky in our relationships! I am trying to pace myself and not read them all at once but think I am weakening. Highly recommended for lovers of British Police Procedurals.

Great Character Development

This series gets better and better. It's like peeling layers from an onion. The more we get to know DI Ted Darling the more we realize how complex he really is. He's fragile and human and flawed, and someone you can't help rooting for. All the characters continue to be fleshed out more in each book. Makes me excited to contemplate the next book in the series.

Another brilliant story about the very lovable DI Ted Darling. There are very few detective stories where I am happy to read as much about the officer's private lives as I am about the crimes they solve. Ted is an exception. I cannot describe these books as 'cosy mysteries'. they are not but when I finish one I have a warm satisfied feeling and cannot wait to move on to the next.

Excellent

Back to top quality. Book 3 slipped a bit, still very good but not up to the standard of the first 2 books. This one surpasses them all. Some new characters, and more depth toTeds personality.

I love this series, with each new book I think the author can't better her last one, but somehow she does. Each book has new crimes to solve, always cleverly researched and based on facts, so it's like reading a true crime.
