Meet Elena James.
Damon was the guy my parents warned me about, the man every good girl should beware of.
Sarcastic.
Cocky.
Irreverent.
The 100% wrong choice for the daughter of a city councilman.
And I loved him for it...until he broke my heart the summer before we left for college.

Now he's back after seven years and every ounce the man I fell in love with. And every ounce the man I came to despise.

I can never allow myself to fall for him. Not again.

Not when he's been gone all this time. Not when he has no idea he has a daughter.

Meet Damon Stone.
Elena was the perfect woman for me, but her old man wouldn't have any of it. He and his goons forced me out of town right after graduation.
Losing her meant losing every f*cking thing that mattered.

I joined the Marines--split my time between the Middle East and an endless string of pointless flings that couldn't ease the ache Elena left behind.

When I came back to the States, Elena was the last person I expected to run into. But one look and I I have to have her. But given what I had done, would she have me? Would we ever have our second chance?

This is a steamy-sweet standalone romance from Kelsey Chase. If you're looking for HEA, no cliffhangers, and more passion than Nicholas Sparks could ever dream of, you've come to the right place!

Short review. This was a sweet second chance love story, both Elena and Damon are likable and enjoyable to read about. The story did move quickly especially towards the end, I would have liked to have more scenes between Lucy and Damon but enjoyed what was written. There were a few spelling errors mostly with Slade's name that kept going back and forth between Slade and Slide.

The story was sweet, although it really lacked substance. The editing, however, left an awful lot to be desired. So many wrong words, wrong tenses, missing words, and inconsistencies. For instance, Chapter 20 had a character named Slade. Every other paragraph his name changed from Slade to Slide. One conversation started out "Yeah, Slade..." and 27 words later "Oh, yeah. Slide gave up...." Honestly, just pick one and stay with it. And, Damon is a Marine. He does not have and 'old army buddy'. He has fellow Marines or old Marine buddies. Liam is introduced as 'an old army buddy', and at the end he is referenced as a Marine. Having a dad that was a Marine, as well as friends that are Marines, I am well aware that there is a big difference in the military branches to them. And let's not forget that the 'Prologue' at the end (which should be the Epilogue!) stated that Elena was already pregnant, but gave birth nine months later. I don't know, maybe seven or eight months would have been more correct? Then, they are celebrating Jake's 3rd birthday and in the very next sentence, Damon says that they have a 10 year old and a seven year old. I am left wondering if anyone proof-read before publication.

The story itself was okay. Elena and Damon were high school sweethearts. She got pregnant and her dad ran Damon off. Amazingly, in seven years (or eight years - it varies) Elena has worked her way up to CTO of a company. (This includes college time, a marriage, and widowhood!) Anyway, Elena feels in danger and hires personal security in the form of former sweetheart Damon. But wait, Elena has a daughter, and little Lucy has Damon's eyes, but he dismisses this without question. Hmmmm.... Elena and Damon pick their relationship back up, but then she fears he will run and takes a preemptive strike. Meanwhile, the threat she originally hired him to protect her from still exists. Will they find the villain and find their happily ever after?

The story could have been so much more. The editing could have been SO much better.

This is my first book by Kelsey Chase and it won't be my last!!! I really enjoyed Kelsey's style of writing. I could not put this book down!!!!

What happens when you're in danger and the man interviewing to protect you is your first love? This happens to Elena. Damon left Elena 8 years ago to join the marines. Elena knew she had to be strong for her & her daughter.

Elena thinks someone is trying to sabotage her career & company. She needs security. In walks her first love Damon.
