Five years after an alien ship crashed in the bay of Bay City, scientists are still unable to get into the wreckage, and it is assumed that there were no alien survivors. Some bits of the ship broke off and are being studied in secret labs. People with extraordinary powers/abilities, both vigilantes and criminals, are becoming more and more commonly reported.
Simon Rising is the story of Steve Ambrose, a bank robber who is shot while being arrested and wakes up in the hospital with no memories, but with telekinetic powers. Hunted by the law and his criminal past he must discover if he can change who he is, or if the dark person everyone accuses him of being is too deeply a part of his nature to escape.
Writing has been a passion of mine since childhood. A lot of it for me always started with "what if" questions. If I didn't end up going through it in a conversation I'd write a story to explore what could happen.
College brought a focus on psychology and philosophy, both about learning to understand people and why we do things. That's an important part of a lot of stories to me.
Since college most of what I've done has been office jobs, where I'd think up story or character ideas during breaks. in 1998-99 I lived in a motorhome and did a lot of writing, but I kept setting it aside.
Now that I'm in my 40's I've gotten tired of setting it aside, and I'm making a point of embracing the things I'm passionate about, writing being a major one.
I love a good superhero origin story. That’s what Brian Howard delivers with Simon Rising. After an alien craft crashlands on Earth, a man finds himself with inexplicable powers. But don’t expect over the top with this one. Howard’s story is grittier and down to Earth in a way that’ll make Daredevil or Batman Begins fans feel right at home. Written very cinematically, it was a fast read and I look forward to seeing where the story goes from here!
