A standalone romance with a happily ever after! She’s the richest woman in a city built on billions of dollars, and she’s got the trophy girlfriend to prove it. Business and pleasure have a tendency to mix in the high-stakes world Adrienne Thomas breathes. As the co-owner of one of America’s biggest corporations, the young billionaire doesn’t have time to date… especially when her recent bisexual awakening leaves her more confused than her confidence likes to admit. That’s why it was so easy to start dating her business partner’s smart and gorgeous executive assistant. Amber Mayview made her intentions clear from the moment she first seduced this was all about pleasure and money, a relationship of mutual needs and satisfactions. Now, months later, one of the most over the top same-sex couples has reached an impasse. Amber is no longer satisfied with the sugar baby lifestyle. The longer she stays with Adrienne, the more she falls in love with more than just her money. But for two women who should never be together to make it through this rocky patch, they’re going to have to admit more than their love. They’re going to survive ex-lovers, a media play that refuses to release them, and enough heat to burn down their city in sinful flames. Good thing it’s worth it. For love, of course. (The money’s just a bonus.)
It picks up where Hard to Get left off. We meet up again with Adrienne and Amber who have gotten back together after breaking up at a gala a few weeks earlier.
Nothing has changed between these two women however. Adrienne is still money obsessed and trying to prove that she's just as competent and business savvy as her male business partner who also happens to be her ex boyfriend. Amber who is still with Adrienne primarily for her money is starting to feel like that is no longer enough for her. As Amber starts falling for Adrienne someone from her past decided to show up and shake things up for her. Which is just 1 of the obstacles this very unlikely couple must overcome on their road to happily ever after.
These two ladies sure do sizzle when they get together. Their chemistry is fantastic and the story is well paced. I fell hard for Adrienne and Amber in the previous book and loved getting to read their crazy journey together. This one i will definitely be re-reading someday.
I tried. I really really tried to finish this, but it's my first official DNF. I managed to struggle a whole 80% of it, when I realized I had nothing invested in seeing how it ends. This just isn't my thing, the whole extreme wealth "sugar mama, sugar baby" world holds zero intrigue, but I wanted to try new content, see what it's about. There was literally no character that was likeable in the story, the power dynamics of the women just didn't seem right, and the misogyny of the male characters was awful. The authors clearly have talent with their writing, though the book was much too long, but this content just didn't do it for me. :(
Okay, I enjoyed it more than I thought I would, cause I don't think that that kind of relationship is healthy, and when cheating is envolved, well, not good. They are a mess, and it took me a while to believe on their feelings. But, it worth the reading, it's hot and a little bit angst.
Amber has one ambition, to be a sugar baby who turns into the trophy wife of a billionaire, male or female. Adrienne is a billionaire, self-made businesswoman who is Amber's sugar mama. The book opens well after this arrangement has been set in motion and shortly after the two agree they will be exclusive. But their relationship issues are far from settled.
This is the second book I've read by these two collaborating authors, and the second female pairing set in their New England world of billionaires. To my surprise, I found this book even better than the other, Hard to Get. While possibly longer than it needed to be, the book held me, even in its less dramatic moments when the authors did a wonderful job getting into the guts of this relationship from both points of view, but avoiding the angst-ridden internal monologue that plagued Hard to Get.
I had a few quibbles with tone and word choice (Adrienne as she's described would never say "ain't") but these are minor, and didn't detract from this very strong relationship narrative. The sex scenes were hot and the authors did a good job of integrating the dom/sub dynamic into their description of the evolution of the relationship, but not making the book all about that.
If you feel okay about the kink, this is a good book to read. Highly recommended.
Another amazing story in the Billionaire universe!
Amber, the PA to Ethan Cole, is looking for a rich partner to take care of her. She sets her sights on Adrienne as soon as she starts at Thomas-Cole. Adrienne has only recently come to terms with her bisexuality and isn't comfortable flaunting her relationship with Amber.
In the previous books, Adrienne and Amber's relationship seemed volatile and toxic. I was interested to see how these two were going to work out all of the issues that they were facing. With a a little bit of communication and a ton of support from others, Amber and Adrienne had amazing chemistry and a fantastic relationship. I loved seeing the POV of both of them and the cameos by all of my favorite characters from the other books. I can't wait to see what happens next for these ladies!
*This is my voluntary review of an Advanced Reader Copy*
I don't think I have ever disliked a character, but unfortunately I did. Then they would shoe the softer side of Adrienne. Can't say I enjoyed it as much as Eva and Nadia's story, but it held my attention
How I Ended Up Reading It I saw it on Bookbub while it was temporarily free and snatched it up. Billionaire bisexual women struggling with relationships? Mm. Yes. And then I forgot to read it for like...a couple months. That's partly because I was reading other things and partly because after obtaining it the cover turned me off a little because it's so obviously erotic. I expected this book to be mainly erotica with very little plot. This was not the case. I finally read it because I have too many f/f books lying around and I want a nice even number for Sapphicathon. But. I was not. Prepared.
The surprises First of all, this book is MUCH longer than I expected. I thought it would be like...300 pages at most? Actually it's almost 600 pages according to Goodreads. The deception of ebooks, I guess!
But there's a reason for that, which is that while this book does have a ton of sex scenes, it also has a very literary side. I would say the focus of this book is less the sexual/romantic side of Amber and Adrienne's relationship and more how Amber and Adrienne are developing as people together. How Adrienne, who is in her first relationship with a woman, is coming to understand what it is to be queer, how she relates to the queer community, and how Amber is learning that she wants a relationship that isn't just about sex and money. They're both changing, and they're learning how to negotiate what they want for each other. People say that you get a lot of "getting together" novels but not a lot of marriage novels. This is more like a marriage novel in some ways. It's about an established relationship and how it changes.
(They definitely aren't married, though. Too much of a hot mess for that. It's about fixing a dysfunctional relationship, not the wonders of a perfect one...which tbh is a lot more interesting for me.)
What I Loved -I love alpha females, so of course I loved Adrienne. Alpha is her main character trait! And I liked that we got more than half the book from her point of view, which I think is rare since usually the billionaire's beau is seen as the POV character since they're considered to be more relatable. But Adrienne deserves the POV time she gets. She's complex. She develops greatly within the novel. And also she's a bit of a power fantasy (we all want to be a billionaire lesbian in some corner of our hearts, amirite?)
-I loved the discussion of what it means to have one's sexuality in the spotlight. That you might not want to get politically and socially involved because it's kind of intrusive. But maybe you have a responsibility if you have a certain level of influence...but it's still not easy, and it's not an essential part of being queer. It doesn't always come naturally.
-Just. Everything? Idk. So much. -I may have to write a longer review later because it's just such a long book. So much to say.
Overall Would recommend if you like queer billionaire romances! I know it's kind of a niche but come on, you know you wanna. ;) but also I would recommend to people who want to see a relationship not only form but develop, face challenges both internal and external, or who want to see struggles with public reception and political involvement. It's just...it's got a lot.
An interesting book. It's quite hard to get into as it appears to be basically just erotica. Then there is the takeover of a small, independent, record label and a plot starts to develop. This plot develops nicely through several stages which could easily be the endpoint of a lesser story, giving an unexpected range and depth to the tale. Although this is punctuated by further erotica, which mostly acts to slow the pace (possibly deliberately).
However, I'm unsure who this book is aimed at? If erotica is what you're mainly interested in, then you may lose interest as the plot develops and the erotica declines; if you find sex with little context a bit unengaging, then you may give up before the plot kicks in. Perhaps a problem is that this tale is told chronologically. A little rearrangement of the events, with some flashbacks/forwards, might make this a better book whatever your taste.
Adrienne is the more interesting character of the two leading ladies. I like how they are both flawed and traditionally "unlikeable" though, definitely not your usual protagonists (arrogant & stuck-up rich woman with emotionally insecure sugar baby). From their brief interactions in the Nadia & Eva storyline I somehow had the impression that Adrienne would be a sort of "ice queen", but turns out she's quite sweet from the start. Their interactions were cute & oftentimes funny. The best scene imo is straight after the rock concert. That one hilarious line that bumped it up a star for me lol. It's a shame we don't get to see how the mayor's threats played out. I seriously wanted to see that ***** ruined. Guess I'll read book 2 of Nadia & Eva next.
Overall the book was just okay for me. I can stay overall the story I enjoyed, but felt as if it could have been shortened. My favorite part came at the end when Adrienne changed and started accepting everything. For me, Amber was whiny and wanted everything. I love a strong female character, but Adrienne was strong in business, but I didn't like her too much. She was selfish, but very focused on all the men. I got tired of hearing about that along with Amber only wanting money. I skipped majority of the middle part of the book because I became disinterested in hearing the same stuff over and over again.
On the Rocks was an extraordinary treat. This book was the story of two women falling in love, expressing that love passionately,, hitting a few rough patches, and fighting for LGBT rights. I was expecting erotica, instead I received well written complex characters, that I utterly enjoyed getting to know intimately. Sterling plot. I read the intro to Dane's next novel. I am going to have to pay money for the next one as this one was a Book Byte free to read book. I love freebies, so that I can find amazing authors.
Overall a bit disappointed. There were a lot of typos or grammatical errors, the beginning of the book was confusing because so many characters were introduced at the same time with not a lot of good descriptions of the people, the places, or the scenes so I had trouble keeping them separate. And the middle was just hard to connect with fancy uber rich people. But I did end up enjoying the storyline and I liked the end because of the characters growth. I'd definitely consider reading more books by this author though.
This is a very well written book with well defined characters, several whom appear in other books by the authors. Can a billionaire and a golddigger actual form a lasting and meaningful relationship? Not without numerous bumps along the way. Put this book on your must read list to find out how Amber and Adrienne manage to find themselves in a relationship neither of them were looking for.
who knew there was so much anxiety in the rich and famous? Heat I expected, sex, yes that too, but…
My goodness this was a great read. The writing is intense and deserving of attention. I loved the interactions of the characters, confirming that everyone, rich or not carries their own crap in their brains even if it doesn’t leak out of their mouths. I love the style of writing used, the settings and the very believable characters!
As a potential spoiler........I'm not sure I follow Adrienne's two changes of heart nearer the end. They didn't seem true to her. Maybe when I read it again (and I will), it will make more sense.
But it was an excellent book, and I enjoyed getting to further know these characters we got to meet as minor characters in Hard to Get.
I wasn't to sure at First if I was going to like this book but the more I got into it the more I liked it especially when Amber quit her job and Adrianne thought that they were done forever. Adrianne finally figured out what she wanted more then anything and the was Amber for the rest of her life.
Absolutely riveting read! I chanced upon Adrienne from the hard to get/ please and I just had to read about her. Aside from unrealistic billionaires spending aside, Dane has managed to weave Adrienne and amber into rather round and dynamic characters. She touches on themes of bisexuality as well as a pinch of feminism and gender politics.
Enjoyed the story of Billionaire Adrienne Thomas and Amber Mayview. Started a bit slow, but then picked up. A lot of relationships and exes for such a small office. Steam, quite a bit of talk about BDSM, but what was in the story was very light. Sugar babies, sugar mamas, real relationship? A few twists and turns.
🌈CAPTIVATING 🌈 This was a very stimulatingly satisfying e-book!😍. Definitely had plenty of satisfying moments of ecstasy!😍. Also provided those interacting references of events from other people from the other books .This was totally worth investing the time to read! 🔥💭
Truly loved this book, it had comedy ,drama, romance. fell in love with Adrienne and amber Glad they made up,glad how you show how they change as their love grew for each other.
As always I really enjoyed this book as all the others I’ve read of hers. I like the way the same group of women flow over all her books. At least all the ones I’ve read.
The on off story of Adrienne and Amber is a rough one but when love comes calling they are unable to resist. Adrienne doesn't think she is looking for a true relationship with Amber she is so very wrong!!!!!!
A whiny sugar baby who develops feelings and is afraid her sugar momma see’s her just as a prize instead of her girlfriend. After many fights and secrets will love win out or will a gold digger always be a gold digger and will a capitalist always so self centered?
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
If you like hot and steamy passion, scorching hot intimate scenes, then this book is for you. This book was well written and a blisteringly hot look into the private lives of those in another type of genre (lesbians). Cynthia Dane and Hildred Billings didn't skip over the tough stuff, instead diving right in and letting us see the messy along with the awesome. Adrienne Thomas is the youngest and wealthiest billionaire in the city and she does not have time to date because of her business, but she has a trophy girlfriend. Amber Mayview is young, ambitious, attractive, and an opportunist. At first Amber set out to seduce Adrienne to become her sugar baby. Adrienne showered Amber with her money, but Adrienne sees what they have as an affair and not a relationship. Amber soon wants more than just Adrienne’s money—she wants a relationship with Adrienne. But, will Adrienne settle for a relationship with Amber? The chemistry between Amber and Adrienne grows more potent the more time they spend together—the sex is off the chart hot! Cannot give too much away, so read it and see what happens. The scenes are well written, fast-paced and flow smoothly from one scene to the next with lots of romance while the strong charismatic characters draw readers in and refuse to let go. The book will pique your interest and draw you in from the beginning to the very end.
