Rate this book
After almost 5 years with the department, Deputy Dustin Reichert was involved in a violent gun battle on the most routine of calls. After the smoke cleared and his body began to heal, it became apparent that the real chaos was just beginning. This is a story about growing up and trying to get into law enforcement. This is a story about my shooting and the chaos involved from many angles. But most importantly, this is a story of personal healing using the power of the positive mind, harnessing your subconscious and through forgiveness. Dustin now finds himself sharing his story to groups of all kinds, injecting appropriate humor where possible and connecting with attendees. His inspiring story and his passion for helping others are the driving forces behind his message of the power of the positive mind. Let him share his story and inspiration with you.

Well I wrote it, so of course I loved it! But afterwards, I did actually enjoy reading it. I DO NOT generally read, so I wrote with the mind of a "non-reader" and the feedback from both readers and non-readers has been fantastic. I hope you enjoy it too and thank you for the support.

I think the most important lesson this book shares is to avoid egocentric investment in any occupation. The cop job is just a job. It should not be a cop's entire identity. Unfortunately, most cops invest their egos in their jobs and lose perspective.

There will be a time when you are no longer a cop, whether if it is from retirement or (like this officer) through the deceitful acts of a corrupt and uncaring administration. You have to prepare for that. Have hobbies, friends, and skills outside the police world. Start a side business. Have a plan for when your police career ends...because it will.

Incidents like what the author experienced are all too common.

Thank you for your service and second for sharing your story. I went through the range of emotions from laughing to crying during some of your most exasperated moments. I learned a lot and highly recommend this book to all readers, avid and non-readers alike. I had a hard time putting it down and believe everyone can take something away from this. I hope sharing your story will continue to help you heal and find peace as well as help others through their own situations. Thank you again Dustin!

A great read that really opens your eyes to some of the hidden traumas an officer goes through after an on duty use of force incident. The book is wrote in a way that envelopes the reader in the raw emotion that the author experienced while living through the turbulent times post shooting.
