For anyone looking to remodel their home, whether just a small section or the entire thing, this would be a good place to start. This book focuses a little bit more on the project managing side of home renovation, but goes into all major points of a home remodel if you're only focusing on a few areas. Want to learn a bit more about what it takes to frame a house? Want to learn a bit more about HVAC? What about materials that are commonly used to build a deck? This is a great place to start.
Seeing as technology continues to change over time, this is by no means the only source of information you should go to if you're looking for a deep dive into any one topic. However, it's definitely a really great place to start as you develop your goals for your next remodel.
There are some great forms at the end of the book that you can use to keep track of your home remodel project. If you want a digital version, you have to go online to pay for a copy. Or, why not just use the forms as a template and design your own?
If anything, there were a few occasional issues where entire paragraphs would be copied and pasted, verbatim, one right after the other. Probably not something you would notice unless you were reading the book front to back, but definitely in there.
This book gave me a really good overall idea of all the steps involved with contracting a home. I know there’s a lot I still don’t know, but now I KNOW what I don’t know and can go about acquiring those specific skills and knowledge. It was an interesting read, and I feel educated on what kind of decisions to prepare to make. I really appreciate the check-lists at the ends of each chapter
