In the fifty thousand years since Ryan Hunt was cremated, human history has taken several catastrophic turns. After nuclear annihilation came the volcanoes, and now there's a plague bearing down on humanity. It's going to take something big to save them this time.

And they get it, in the form of a resurrected Hunt, who's been given a second life. His DNA, it turns out, is the key to rescuing the species. But it won't be as easy as simply swabbing the inside of his mouth.

To survive in this new world, Hunt has to evade the kidnappers who are after him, hop from planet to planet, and even dust off his tux for a date to a ball. Even more challenging, he needs to navigate the waters with adventurous and beautiful scientist Dr. Kat Winslow, whom adventure seems to follow.

With help from a friendly robot named NORA and a newfound sense of daring, Ryan Hunt is ready to take on the future--whatever it brings.

In the year 2073, at the age of 103, Ryan Hunt passed away. His ashes were cremated and placed in urn. It was time for him to rest for all eternity. But things don't turn out that way. Over the course of 50,000 years Mr. Hunt's ashes travel across galaxy. Eventually they land in the hands of scientists who resurrect his body to gather DNA to stop a deadly disease. It's not just Mr. Hunt's body that is back though, for his soul has returned too. There are many forces at play here, and Mr. Hunt finds himself on the adventure of his life.

When I got The Second Life Of Mr. Hunt I met the author and he told me it was Sci-Fi/Fantasy with a little bit of everything. I'm not sure what I expected, but honestly this wasn't it. It was so all over the place, I kinda loved it though. You have aliens, vampires, demons, angels. Just so much stuff.

I love the plot, the story is extremely intriguing to me. I also loved all the world building and History Lessons that describe what's been going on in the time between Ryan's death and resurrection. The characters we also very enjoyable.

The dialogue was a bit rough. I think just there was some unnecessary stuff that could have been left out. Also the fact that our main character wasn't fully introduced until 80 pages in was kinda weird.

All in all though, I really did enjoy this book. It was very fun, and I'm really excited to read the next of Mr. Hunt's adventures.

A wild, thought provoking ride through time, space, and everything in between.

The Second Life of Mr. Hunt is exactly the kind of book that reminds me why I love science fiction and fantasy so much. Gerrit S. Overeem has created a world that’s as expansive as it is intriguing full of mystery, ancient tech, cosmic forces, and unforgettable characters.

Ryan Hunt’s resurrection 50,000 years into the future is not just a plot device it’s a portal into a fully realized universe where humanity’s place is as fragile as it is fascinating. You’re immediately thrown into a high-stakes chase across galaxies, but the story still makes room for character development, philosophical questions, and surprising emotional depth.

What I loved most was how seamlessly Overeem blends sci-fi tech with almost mythological themes it’s a rare kind of storytelling that feels both futuristic and timeless. Also, shoutout to the witty dialogue and the doctor (you’ll know who I mean) I’m obsessed.

If you’re into Star Wars, Mass Effect, or books that explore identity, destiny, and survival in strange new worlds, this one is a must-read. Can’t wait to dive into Book 2!

I met Mr. Overeem at a local pop-up vendor market and had such a nice chat with him. I ended up buying all three of his books, self published, and thought I would just give them a whirl. It has been a while since I read some straight up science fiction. I forgot how much I enjoy a good space odyssey!

I was pleasantly surprised!! I originally gave this book three stars, but then I thought, no, I really enjoyed this story and so I bumped it to four, thinking that against all odds this author has published a very original storyline and I really hope others will pick it up so he can continue his work and tell more stories. Many people are turned off by a three star rating (which still means I liked it), and this series deserves a bump!!

While the premise is really super far-fetched (isn't most sci-fi? Three years on Mars in The Martian, much??), Overeem's story of a man, Ryan Hunt, whose remains survive tens of thousands of years and many annihilations and worlds only to be rejuvenated with futuristic technology in order to save the universe is actually very readable, relatable, and HUMAN. Overeem does a great job with the banter between our hero and the determined and smart Dr. Katalina Winslow - you can actually feel their chemistry on the page. A few awkward passages but overall this story is full of adventure, inventive futuristic life, and so much heart. Other species are vividly described, and we even get an angel siting as well as other creatures of current mythology. Think Han Solo meets Meredith Grey - in space. They are both tough, both struggling with losses from their pasts, and of course Ryan is thrown into a world where nothing is as he remembers it, and then they give him his own AI being in the form of NORA.

Let the games/chase/adventure begin. And then continue into book 2!!!

Buck Rogers meets Fifth Element

The first half of the book is background, and you need to read it, even though it may not be thrilling and doesn't explain everything as we still need secrets to be revealed later. Add in vampires and tree people with their own agendas, and we finish a wild ride to the next book's adventure. There is just a lot going on to keep you interested. Now, I need to read the next book to answer some of my burning questions.

Vampires, alien demons and everything else

This book was all over the place and I was kind of bewildered at the beginning with how the main character was going to exist lol. But vampires and alien demons? I like the inventiveness. I laughed many times so while I think it could be a little better I’ll give a good score for inventiveness and entertaining.

Good Sci fi story

I found the book to be very interesting with good Sci fi themes. I am very interested to see what the next two books bring to the story and it feels like this book set the full story up well.

Brought back to life!

Dead and gone for centuries then for ages. Lost in a future he had trouble understanding but he found love again? Or maybe not love but treachery?
