What it says on the tin--a great in-depth look into every episode of the TV series, its production troubles, its highs and lows. Not having watched the series during its original run, I've only seen certain episodes of this show, out of order, on public library VHS tapes in the late 90s and now, on youtube. However, Brett's Holmes is in my mind the definitive portrayal of my favorite detective, and it's so great to be able to get some insight into the struggles and triumphs behind the scenes.
The author obviously loves the subject matter and this book, other than a love letter to one of the greatest shows of all time, is not afraid to pronounce judgment on its failures and lows. Reading this book helps me put into perspective some of the more cringe-worthy aspects of this show and makes me appreciate its beauty all the more.
