Code in Every Class: How All Educators Can Teach Programming

Rate this book
Students use technology in every aspect of their daily lives, but few of them have ever been shown how to take control of their computers, smartphones, and other digital devices. They're stuck as consumers when they should be learning how to use tech tools to be creators.

In Code In Every Class, author-educators Kevin Brookhouser and Ria Megnin share why they believe computer science must have the same priority in education as math, language, history, and science. They also explain that you don't have to be a computer genius to teach the basics of coding.

You'll learn how to...
* Teach coding principles without a computer
* Level the playing field for disadvantaged students by teaching computer literacy
* Incorporate fundamental coding skills into your existing lessons
* Find the tools and resources you need so you can learn with your students

Code in Every Class provides all of the reasons teachers should embrace teaching coding in their classrooms. It can easily be used as a guide for convincing teachers/administrators the importance of students learning the skills behind coding, which are thinking skills! Kevin’s book addresses misconceptions and fears about teaching technology/coding. The book contains lessons you can use to get you started, including ideas for technology integration in every subject. I really appreciated Kevin’s candidness about not having a background in computer programming. He specifically shows you examples of how to work through that with students. This book also provides background knowledge on coding, binary code, and types of coding. Additionally it is full of links and resources you can use right away. I would definitely recommend this book!
