If you want a book that will calm you down, relax you, show you love and emotion, but at the same time turn your world around and make you cry at 2am, this is the perfect book for you!

Filled with so much love, laughter, happiness, tears, travelling, 7 second long hugs and intimate moments, this book has left me speechless until the very last page.

You will travel the world around with Bridget, and listen to her playlist, keep track of her thoughts and be a witness while she tries to take her pieces of her heart sorted out together again.

But she will fall in love with a person she's expected least - a tiny little baby girl!
Definitely a book that I would recommend to all of you that love these type of stories, and all of you that don't - because you will love this one regardless.

Out of all of the books Paige Toon has written, I definitely think this one is the best one so far!

I absolutely loved everything about the book. The plot, her writing and most importantly the characters! This was such an enjoyable and quick read which made me smile a lot and I really hope Bridget, Charlie and April will get a short appearance in “Five Years From Now” which is coming out in May.

I’m already a huge fan of Paige and her writing, I first discovered her a few years ago and the first book I read by her ended up being my favourite; Pictures of Lily just struck a chord with me, it was in no way similar to my life, sadly, but I loved it all the same. However I can honestly say The Last Piece of My Heart will stay with me forever, it was simply stunning.

The Last Piece of My Heart follows Bridget a travel journalist who wants to become a writer. While travelling the world Bridget’s writes a witty romance blog about ex-boyfriends, falling in love and relationships, more specifically about break ups and how we lose a pieces of ourselves. When Bridget’s blog becomes an internet success she’s able to go back and visit her past partner’s to see if she can claim back the piece she left behind.

“The problem with giving your heart away to someone is that you never fully get it back.”

Bestselling author Nicole Dupre died before she could finish the sequel to her extremely popular book and Bridget has been asked to finish it. Bridget eagerly accepts and travels to Cornwall to hopefully get a better idea of what Nicole wanted in a sequel by looking through her notes and to meet her widow, Charlie.

What I loved most about this book was how Toon was able to perfectly balance such hard-hitting emotion and humour. Bridget was a fantastic main character, you got to see her visit some truly terrible ex-boyfriends, struggle with the pressure of trying to give the book millions of readers expect and build a relationship with grief-stricken Charlie.

The romance was my favourite part of the book, watching Bridget and Charlie slowly build a friendship and then a relationship was just beautiful. I laughed when Bridget finally made Charlie smile, I cried when Charlie cried, I honestly went on a little bit of a emotion roller-coaster. I completely devoured this book in two sittings and read it with a smile from ear to ear.

The Last Piece of My Heart is a gorgeous book filled with love, loss and hope. I laughed, I cried and laughed some more. Readers will be hooked from the first page and this story will stick with them long after reading.

I picked the book up from my favorite bookstore mainly out of curiosity because I have been seeing Ms. Paige Toon’s books a lot and her book covers always looked so cute so I thought it was finally time to give her a try. I’m glad I did and gladder that I picked The Last Piece of My Heart because the blurb did not fail my expectation. It is agreeably a heartwarming and touching story about grief, friendship, and finding love.

The premise is quite adorable despite the silly bit in it. Bridget, who is not a “baby person” and is on and off single at 34 although already engaged with her 12th boyfriend is actually making a blog about taking back every piece of her heart she lost from every boy she loved and at the same time, ghostwriting for Charlie’s dead wife, Nancy, to complete the sequel to her bestselling novel which she left halfway before she passed away.

Ironically, having to write at Charlie’s place, Bridget finds herself growing more attached each day to his cute baby girl, April. That’s the part I liked most about the story, the development of her relationship with the baby and realizing that the last piece of her heart doesn’t belong to a man but to the beautiful baby girl. It’s completely adorbs.

The writing is easy to relate to. It’s beautiful and charming but still very comfortable to read. It’s also laced with humor and a bit of sarcasm as well as pop references so it’s definitely a light read. It’s kind of like a mix between Jojo Moyes and Sophie Kinsella’s style and I really liked it.

Umm...sadly, this didn't convince me at all. This was supposed to be one of those guilty-pleasure books that make you feel all fluffy and warm and cute inside, right? That make you curl up in your bed and go "Awww" while reading and end up loathing your life for not having found your own personal love story yet. I mean, that's what every chicklit's goal should actually be! But this book, it didn't even come close. There was no single "Awww" moment in it for me (and I'm so easy to awe!), the book was certainly trying, but it was trying too hard. It wasn't bad by any means, it still doesn't reach the stupidity levels of The Hating Game (still looking for my review! It'll never come back, will it...), but oh my god, was it bland! I can't even make fun of it, that's how dull it was. The author's writing style didn't do anything for me and I don't understand where all the praise is coming from. What is everyone seeing that I can't see? I don't even know where to start with the review of this book. It was all so...impersonal, forgettable, shallow...and completely illogical! But I guess I'll begin with Charlie, the good old male protagonist in the book. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I'm just so happy how every chick-lit novel emphasizes the hotness of the protagonist's love interest because who cares about any other qualities he may or may not have. And trust me, I tried very hard to see his other qualities, I kept looking for them with a magnifying glass even, because there has to be something, something other than his body and so-very-special eyes. And I guess...he has a decent sense of humor? (wow, so unique and unheard-of) Eventually, that's all I could come up with; apart from the fact that he apparently doesn't seem to have any problems leaving his infant toddler with a practical stranger in the house. Sitters and play groups and neighbours and even his own mother often aren't allowed to take care of that baby, but hey, his wife's ghost writer he barely knows? YES PLEASE. Go ahead! Making sense is not this guy's strongest suit I suppose- but hey, at least he looks hot. Also, I still can't get over the premise of this book. So the main character is supposed to finish the dead author's book and everyone is just..okay with that, with the exception of the author's family? Who cares about the freaking readers, if my (invented) husband died I would tell them all to go to hell. And I definitely wouldn't let some random stranger into my house, read my husband's personal (!) diaries and take care of my baby. (Hot take: that baby was really annoying. I want to have babies in the future, but they have no place in books and this one in particular hogged all the screentime for herself. If I read the name April one more time or how cute her oh-so-adorable Chipmunk cheeks are...) What kind of agent lets another random unexperienced person finish a bestseller book series anyway, and that just based on blog entries alone? Am I being naive, do I really not understand how the world works or are those people in the book really not making any sense at all? And then we have our lovely protagonist, Bridget. Oh Bridget. What an annoying and straight-out dislikable main character. But Charlie describes her as an enigma, so it's all cool I guess. I suppose once again I'm just too stupid to see a character's countless impressive qualities. What bugs me the most: why on earth was she blogging about meeting her former boyfriends when she was also planning to sell a book about about them? She already wrote down everything about their histories and
the meet-ups on her blog, so there wouldn't have been anything left for her actual book. I don't get it?! What kind of grown-up person actually asks people to give them back a piece of their heart anyway? As if that's just a completely normal thing to say? I thought April was the baby in the book! Oh god, now that I think about it, so many things in this novel were just straight-out ridiculous. That woman is 34 and she fell head over heels in love with twelve men? I'm 24 and I haven't fallen that hard for even one! Granted, I may be an extreme example, but so is freaking twelve (!) men. I mean, I get where the name-calling was coming from and I'd love to repeat some of them, but only because I hate Bridget as a character so much. The way she threw herself at Charlie, just leave the poor guy alone. Eventually, he wanted to be left in peace! His wife hasn't even been dead for much more than a year, how about just...chill. You didn't get the memo all this time that he was into you, and now you're in a hurry to occupy him? I say occupy as if he was an island because she literally said that she wants to own his heart. Possessive much or just looking for a new heart transplant? The latter certainly couldn't hurt...Personality-wise, Bridget was one of the most boring protagonists I've encountered in a while, yet the ending of the book was straight-out something from Stalker Manual 101. I thought I couldn't believe my own eyes when I read this shit. This is a little spoiler, but after weeks of separation because Charlie didn't want to see her, she randomly appears in the guy's bedroom not only unannounced, but in the middle of the night. WHO DOES THAT?! And then the guy just proceeds to have sex with her? Like excuse me...What kind of insane world is that! Try imagening if the roles were reversed, if Charlie were a woman and a man would just be standing in her bedroom, wouldn't that just be super creepy? Oh wait, nevermind, that already happened in Twilight. Anyway, I seem to have to take back what I said earlier, the book may be boring as hell, but you still get enough content worth ranting about. So there's that. Still, three stars for a quick reading experience and because I tend to see the positive in every book. But this is definitely not guilty-pleasure material; it was too much lacking the pleasure. What a snoozefest.

This was a wonderful poignant read and Paige never lets you down with her books. This one certainly didn't let me down has to be her best by far and well worth the five stars and more. Bridget is a journalist and wants to turn her relationship blog into a book but then she's asked to finish a book off for someone who died but wrote best selling novels and she moves down for the summer to Cornwall to meet the husband and look into writing the rest of the book. As she gets to know the family does Bridget's priorities change and can she move forward with her life in the right way. Well worth reading.

Whenever I see this author – Paige Toon – is publishing a new book, I one-click it without even needing to see what the story is about.

I LOVE her books! They are always filled with adventure, swoonworthy heroes, and strong independent women. I´m never ready to leave the story, when I´ve turned the last page.

This story is about Bridget. If you have read some of Paige´s earlier books, you might think the name Bridget sounds familiar.... and you would be correct! Bridget had a small role in ”The Longest Holiday” and ”Thirteen Weddings”. This does not mean though that you as a new reader would have to read these two books to read ”The Last Piece of My Heart”. It´s a standalone, but as an old reader you will get updates on characters you know. One of my favorite things about her books too. You get these nice little surprices!

Bridget is so much fun! She´s adventurous and have traveled all over the world, working as a travelwriter. Right now she is focusing on her blog, where she tells the stories about how she search out her ex-boyfriends to get the pieces of her heart back. She´s hoping it will be the book she has always dreamed about writing, but her agent is not so convinced about her idea. But they like her voice, and thinks it´s very similar to an another writer, Nicky, they had. It´s here the story begins, because Nicky is unfortunately dead, so they want to hire Bridget to ghostwrite the sequel to her very popular book. If all goes well, this could be Bridget´s way into publishing her own book.
She travels to Cornwall to meet Nicky´s husband, Charlie, to see the notes that Nicki wrote for her sequel. Following 7 weeks camping in beautiful Padstow, Cornwall, research trips to the places Nicky had in mind for her book, and reading Nicky´s notepads and diaries to get an idea of how Nicky wanted the book to end. It´s all very exciting reading, because it turn´s out there are similarities between Nicki´s life and her book. What does this mean for the husband, Charlie?
I love it when a book get my thoughts spinning, and it all turns into a conspiracy. Family secrets, oh I devour you.

Bridget has a boyfriend, but I would like to gush a little bit about Charlie, because oh dear is he fantastic!
I´m so swept away by him that from now on I´m going to say ”Johnny Jefferson, who?”. It´s all about Charlie now!
Widower, single dad, woodcrafter. I thought he was a really great guy. By the time Bridget visits them (Charlie and his baby daughter, April) it´s less than a year since his wife Nicki passed away. His daughter was only a few weeks old at the time. His story really touched my heart. Watching him struggling with both the responsibility but also his grief, and still do his best to be a great dad – I admire him. You can not help but love him, and wanting to help in every way you can.

A beautiful and heart touching book that turned the pages of itself. I need to go camping in Padstow, Cornwall now, because that sounds so much fun!

The problem with giving your heart away to someone is that you never get it back. Long after you've fallen out of love with them, they still own a little piece of you....
These lines resonated so deep within me that it almost felt as if author Paige Toon is describing my story. Everything that I believe about love is encapsulated in these two lines. So does the main character Bridget, a travel writer with a blog but she goes one step further. She feels that she has become so jaded with love, that she needs to ask all the men that she has been in love before, for the pieces of her heart back then, and only then, can she commit to her boyfriend Elliot totally.
So armed with this idea, she pitches it to her editor to combine her travel stories with meeting all her old loves and write a book on it. But her editor has another concept in mind, she wants Bridget to continue with her blog and at the same time write a sequel to the novel the secret life of us by the late Nicole Dupre, to become a ghost writer of sorts.
Nicole died of a brain aneurysm a few months ago and has left behind an unfinished manuscript, a grief stricken husband, Charlie and a baby April. So Bridget travels to the beautiful Padstow, Cornwall in the month of August to begin her research into the life of Nicole. Reading through the notes and diaries , Bridget does see the familiarity between characters of Nicole's book and real life, and at the same time gets to know Charlie and April and then story goes further like every romance but with a difference...
What I particularly liked about this story, is the combination of humor and real life. Love need not always be so serious and love need not start as love, it can start as friendship, humour, daily routine and then slowly burst into its own glory. That's what Paige Toon does...
She brings warmth and laughter in every situation. There are so many emotions that I could not help but dive into it, I laughed with Bridget, I danced with her, I cried when she did but I fell in love with both Bridget and Charlie.
Bridget has everything going for her, she is warm, funny, lives life unapologetically with her convictions, her concept of going after her old loves and asking for her heart back has been ridiculed and trolled but she genuinely believes in the closure that such an act would bring. It's this combination of genuineness and innocence that made me root for her. To counter her whacky personality, there is Charlie who is just coming out of his grief for his dead wife and looking after a tiny tot. Their interactions are absolutely heart warming and funny. I could literally 'see' their world, how their liking and comfortability progressed to love and I thank Paige Toon for showing me that beauty. This line strikes a chord in me..
Do you know that you are supposed to hug for at least seven seconds to get the full benefit of it...
Nothing can be more beautiful than two people falling in love slowly, accepting each other, their friendship blossoming into love. Even people who are cynics or jaded will read this book and have a tiny smile on their face and that is the magic of Paige Toon's writing. Each word is fun to read, fun to imagine and fun to long for.
This was my first book by her and OH what a book. It was everything I had hoped for and then some. I really thought it would just be a regular chick lit and it does follow the script to some extent but then it takes a life of its own, each character is wonderful by themselves or when they are together...
This is the beginning of my relationship with the author as I know I will read up all her books and each book will kindle an emotion in my heart and a longing for further such journeys...
I end with the last line of the book, told by Bridget, which took my breath away and brought tears to my eyes;
As for my darling adopted daughter April, she has the last piece of my heart. And I'll never ask for it back. Ever...

Writing a book inside a book is like getting an insight into the author's struggles in addition to the ongoing story of the characters.

The dead author's ghostwriter falls for the widowed dad. Both bond over baby April.

How can I not like a book with a baby in it?

"Did you know, you're supposed to hug for at least seven seconds to get the full benefit of it?"

This book will definitely give you a seven-second hug! It's such a beautiful, heart-warming love story and another reason why I love Paige Toon! Her writing is so real, you feel like the characters are real people and you are with them at these stunning places. It makes you want to pack up and go there yourself!

Nicole Dupré passed away unexpectedly leaving behind an unfinished sequel to a bestselling novel. Bridget, a travel journalist, is offered the job as a ghostwriter to finish the sequel. If you are familiar with Paige Toon's books you already know Bridget from The Longest Holiday and Thirteen Weddings. And I'm so glad that she got her own story now.
The problem with giving your heart away to someone is that you never fully get it back. Long after you've fallen out of love with them, they still own a little piece of you.

Bridget has this idea to visit all her ex-boyfriends to claim the pieces of her heart back. She writes about this on her blog hoping she can turn it into a book someday. Instead of a book deal she gets offered the job as a ghostwriter to finish the sequel of Nicole’s novel. She relocates to Cornwall for the summer to research and to meet Nicole’s grieving husband Charlie and his daughter April. She is still writing her blog about the missing pieces of her heart but as the story develops there is only one person who can have the last piece of her heart.

This book definitely stole a little piece of my heart!

After reading 'The One we Fell in Love With' i was thinking i don't think Paige could top it. How wrong was i.
Last piece of my heart became my new favourite Paige book.
The characters are wonderful, its amazing how even though you feel like you should disagree with the decisions made by the characters, you completely understand why they do it and you feel as though you are living it with them.
Bridget is my all time favourite female lead, strong but also kind and empathetic.

This book was absolutely perfect for me as I read it. I've had a rubbish week and I just wanted something warm, something to get involved in and make me smile. With a cast of characters to fall in love with, stunning settings and a romance to melt your heart, I got everything I wished for. Definitely a seven second hug - this book hit every spot.

Thirty something travel writer Bridget has had an eventful love life up to now as she easily falls in love time and time again. When she comes up with the idea of catching up with her ex-boyfriends and asking for the pieces of her heart she gave them, while blogging about her journey, she hopes to convince her agent that this will make a great novel. What she's not expecting is to be offered a job as a ghostwriter, to finish the sequel of popular novelist Nicole Dupre. But the job comes with decisions - Nicole's grieving husband insists she must move to Cornwall to fully immerse herself in Nicole's ideas and inspiration. As Bridget finds herself living in her Dad's camper van and tiptoeing about Nicole's home and bereaved family, she's not convinced she made the right decision at first. But she's about to discover she still has a piece of her heart left to give away - and she couldn't be more surprised by the person who eventually takes it.

I LOVED Bridget. She's fun, witty, and slightly bonkers with a huge heart filled with compassion. I'd love to have a friend like Bridget - I don't think you'd ever be bored in her company and she's completely endearing without being overbearingly sweet. She doesn't take herself too seriously, and can laugh at herself and her mistakes which gives her an added charm. I was rooting for this character all the way.

I guessed where The Last Piece Of My Heart was going pretty early on, but this didn't make the journey there any less enjoyable. The developing romance and relationship in this book is beautifully observed, so that the reader feels the increasing tension as it happens. It's a building romance, which develops slowly and is entirely believable given the difficult circumstances surrounding it. Awkward and messy combined with touching and tender ensures that you can't help but get behind it. There's some difficult themes of grief, loss and moving on covered, and I felt Paige Toon did so sensitively and thoughtfully. I also lost a little piece of my heart reading this book, courtesy of a very special little character!

I was bowled over by the heartfelt and honest writing which drew me in and connected me to these characters, becoming as invested in their lives as if I knew them myself ... that's how real and credible they were. As for the setting, well it couldn't have been anymore perfect, and had me yearning to visit Cornwall. With Bridget's intriguingly quirky blog writing research lending lighter, laugh out loud moments, The Last Piece Of My Heart lead me on a roller-coaster of emotions, ending with one huge, soppy smile. I absolutely loved this warm, gorgeous, feel-good book and can't fault a thing.

Bridget is a fabulous character that un-veils secrets at every turn, be it past boyfriends or other gems. This certainly keeps the readers on the edge of their seats and turning pages. Add Charlie into the mix with April and you have a concoction which should not be missed by any Paige Toon Fan.
Descriptions of Cornwall are so beautiful, you can smell the sea air and feel the breeze from the hill tops. I loved every page and to have the extra bit is amazing.... BUT.... and i say this with a heavy heart... i was left feeling flat. The end seemed almost rushed and questions still remained. For so long it was about the book... but beside saying sales took over the advance, we didn't know how she had done. Did Kate like the book? Did Bridget write anymore?
Maybe its just me, but i felt the book was about more than Charlie and April at the beginning but not at the end.

The book was fairly dull for the first half, but it became more engaging as it progressed, and I loved how the author wrapped up the story. I didn’t find Charlie, the male main character, particularly compelling, but I absolutely loved Bridget’s relationship with April—it was so heartwarming.❤️‍🩹

This was a sweet story about two people who unexpectedly fall in love. He is Charlie, a father who has recently lost his wife. She is Bridget, a travel writer who is to write Charlie's wife's unfinished novel.

The first half simply focuses on Bridget doing research for the novel, where Charlie and his baby girl accompany her on visits to the settings of the novel. They develop a close relationship however it is nothing romantic because she has a boyfriend and he is a recent widow.

I found this part rather boring to read. I guess because there was no romantic tension between the two, which I personally love when reading a slow, developing romance. There was also no drama to make it entertaining. I kept waiting for an accident to happen or something to go wrong, but it was just all nice and smooth.

Then a little over halfway through the book, some depth and drama is finally introduced with Bridget's secret revealed and Charlie's relatives disapproval of Bridget. From then on, I enjoyed reading the story and seeing them come to terms with their feelings for one another.

With regards to the character of Bridget, I didn't particularly like her. I found her immature for a 34 year old who's travelled the world. It was a little silly how she kept a blog about her exes and her plans to meet up with all 12 of them to take back the piece of her heart she left behind. It just made her character seem ditzy. But it was only a minor part of the story, and when I learnt more about Bridget personally and about her childhood, I came to understand why she was the way she was.

This is Bridgets' story, and I knew she was special when met her in previous books, albeit briefly.
She is such a vibrant character and I fell for her and her relationship with some of the other character in this book big time!
Bridgets' heart is so big, that everyone's got a piece of it! And she's on the hunt to get some of it back.

The happy ever after has already happened in this story, and we join Bridget on her quest down memory lane, to face her past.

She can't do this though, without something to fall back on, something to help her financially and further her career in writing. So it's not long into her quest of finding the pieces of her heart that she becomes tangled in someone else's story, literally.

Bridget travels miles and miles to get to the root of another woman's happy ending. When she arrives, what waits for her is her own fate.

It takes more than the love of a man or woman to piece your heart back together. So much more 💜

A story within a story, woven together to bring such warmth.

Another Paige Toon book that once again didn't dissapoint. I read this after first meeting Bridget in 13 Weddings, and picking up her story again in One Perfect Christmas, and I enjoy how the people are all inter-woven and cross over. What I love most about her books, is that Paige Toon writes characters that you know and can identify with, and Bridget is no different. I felt like I was camping next to her and didn't want to go home either. Such a lovely, well thought out story that is easy to get lost in, I was hooked from start to finish!

It seemed like I am the only one not liking the novel as much as everyone else who read it. I just thought that the ending really felt rushed, mainly because the start paced out too slow, and it aggressively picked up so much pace about 80 percent into the book. Also, it was my first time to read Toon's books so it must be her writing I was trying to get used to?
