A man is in prison for a road accident that killed a girl. But is he guilty, and was it really a hit-and-run?
Having cleared his own name after spending time in prison for a crime he did not commit, Simon Fulton is at a crossroads in his life. He has been estranged from his only true friend and confidant, Gloria, ever since she discovered her own family’s part in the crime Simon was framed for.
When an older gentleman, Charles Clegg, turns up out of the blue and asks for Simon’s help, he finds it difficult to refuse. Clegg’s brother-in-law has been sent to jail for a hit and run incident, but the businessman believes there is much more to it, and wants Simon to help clear his family’s name.
Simon sets to work on the case whilst simultaneously trying to rescue his relationship with Gloria. If he can convince her to help his investigation, it might mend their friendship and perhaps lead to more. But it might very well lead both of them into danger. Can he risk losing his one true friend on the outside?
After clearing his name, Simon finds himself on the search for the truth on behalf of another family. Tangled Truth is a good, plot-driven story, tightly told, only ever revealing enough information to keep the reader guessing. Simon and Gloria are convincing and their relationship well developed. I liked the role reversal of Simon taking the lead and looking after Gloria rather than the other way around. I liked the sense of place and really related to Simon's love for the landscape of Yorkshire. Overall a really enjoyable, satisfying read.
A fine new novel by Diane Dickson. After serving time for a crime he did not commit, Simon Fulton exonerates himself and finds the real culprits. Subsequently he is called upon to help someone else in a similar situation. So begins his career as a private eye, but not one free from danger as it turns out. Unwilling to go to the police, he soon finds himself compromised with few places to turn.
This is I guess you'd call a sequel to Twisted Truth. I'm kind of glad that the author decided to do a follow up book to Twisted because it was left a bit at sixes and sevens.
In Tangled, we find Simon is doing better in life, getting on okay and trying to decide what to do with himself. Gloria, however, not so much. But when Simon is offered a kind of private investigation job, he reaches out to Gloria for her help.
What starts out as a relatively simple investigation becomes complex and and promises to some very devious motivations and deeds. It was a good, edge of your seat read and I'd recommend.
Didn’t enjoy it, it was the 2nd one in the series so confusing as to how the characters had been together etc. Maybe if I had read the first one I’d have enjoyed it but I won’t be reading the 3rd one 😔
I really enjoyed this book. The characters come to life easily, and are very natural in their interaction. The mystery is kept well out of sight till near the end. Tension is maintained throughout the book with the heroes getting into all sorts of scrapes.
This was a great mystery the characters were interesting in their relationships. I had know idea how this whould turn out. It would of been nice if Simon and Gloria would get together.
Diane Dickson never fails to deliver. Another enthralling mystery, this time set in the beautifully described Yorkshire Moors. Budding Private investigator, Simon and his on and off girlfriend Gloria are drawn into a puzzling case that leads them into a dangerous territory. Dickson knows how to craft mysteries that keep the reader guessing. Her characters are believable and well-drawn. Tangled Truth is for anyone who enjoys expertly written and intriguing crime mysteries.
