THIS IS A DEBUT.

Can I say that again, yeah?

This book is a freaking DEBUT.

And it is awesome. More people need to read this book. READ THIS BOOK.

We all know I don't read in my genre for ~reasons. Well, for ~reasons, I picked up Boss.

Carissa Elliott is already running from one criminal boss when she runs into another. Alec McLean then spends the next two years of his life remembering the girl he shared a single kiss with in the club that night. Fast forward to when these two meet again, and the twists and turns, betrayals and lurking danger keeps you turning the pages.

Two bosses are in the house.

AND ONE IS A WOMAN.

Beyond Carissa and Alec, the relationship these two have with the people around them is .. astounding. Love the friendship angle, because damn that's hard to find in a good way in books of this type, really.

The entire book is fast paced in terms of actions and things that keep on happening. BUT the last, oh, 70 percent? You can't ~breathe.

There seems to be some misconception that this is 'mafia' romance. That could be in part because 'made man' was used in the book + the blurb. Listen, they aren't mafia. And made man is exclusive to Italian (Cosa Nostra) men. So, I think that's a misnomer. And it's a bit confusing there because it's not an accurate reflection. You see made man, and you expect mafia, Italians, so forth. They're cartel. It's not the same thing, and the book doesn't reflect mafia aspects because it's reflecting cartel activity. It's also reflecting cartel activity between women--The Trinity--who run their business on code-speak and carefully crafted lies. Read between the lines, she's all there.

JL Lora actually went above and beyond in this book regarding those aspects, though. You want an inside look at business, or rather, how criminal organisations move silently and not-so-silently around each other, read this book. It is not only a single family or two, it is several, it is factions and men working in other families and factions. I loved that about this book, so I just want to shout out to that, because it was done ~right.

In case you're curious, I rarely EVER think it is done right. I think things are glossed over, or research hasn't been done at all, leaving a book with a vague explanation how how things get done/are done/whatever.

Again, ~reasons why I don't read in the genre I write.

This, however, is not that book.
This is done right.
Read this book.

And stop calling it mafia romance, it ain't. Mafia and cartel aren't the same.

Peace.

So, Franny-Panny and I are just going to pretend this never happened and are now going to transition smoothly to our next buddy read.

DNF at around 10%. Killed by the absolutely horrible writing. Super choppy, with ridiculous time jumps that make it impossible to connect with the characters since we don’t get to see how they get to a certain point in their lives. We just jump from end result to end result so everything that would make them who they are is just glossed over. What a disappointment :(

This story is definitely a cross between a Harlequin romance and YA novel. It's very important to approach this story with those genres in mind.

I am a bit confused on the Mafia angle. I didn't find any signs of actual Mafia life. The plot and characters are choppy and underdeveloped. I felt as if I missed a huge chunk of the story. The first 30% read as if the story resumed from a previous story. Additionally Carissa goes from mourning to traumatized to victimized to a knife wielding Boss in first 20% of story. The scenes shift too quickly. As a reader I was unable to grasp the purpose of the sudden changes. The issue and scenes are unsettled. I found it difficult to connect with the characters and their actions. Some of their actions are totally unrealistic and/or inappropriate in the crime world.

I am unsure of the direction the author aimed for in this story. For this reason, I believe it appropriate to consider other reviews if considering purchase.

Boss 4.5 Stars'Boss' by J.L. Lora is Book One in the 'Trinity' Series.  This is the story of Carissa and Alec.  Carissa is on the run from Calum DeMateo who killed her father. But she is finding it hard to hide safely.  Carissa meets Alec when his younger brother is dancing with her friends.  There is a instant attraction for them both.  But they are interrupted when guns start firing and Carissa knows that he must be part of the mob...or at the very least someone she should run from.  This story had a lot of twist and turns...some surprising.  It was definitely hard to put down.  "My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read."https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/1...  https://www.amazon.com/gp/profile/A2H... https://romancebookreviewforyou.wordp... https://www.tumblr.com/blog/romancebo...

No. Just nope.
The plot had potential, but the writing felt too choppy (the transitions between scenes was so abrupt I thought I was reading a script instead of a novel) & jarring; the characters were so two dimensional they didn’t even appear like people but a bunch of words strung together, it made it impossible to care about them or establish a connection (thanks also to the fact we literally don’t know a thing about these people...the author moves them from point A to point B in the plot without giving the reader a clue about what they went through) and all this glossing over the details makes the reader feel like he’s hearing from a third party about these events rather than witnessing in first person himself.

Another flop 。・゚゚・(>д<)・゚゚・。

I am quite out of words and don't know how to start this review. I mean, there are a lot of jumbled thoughts in my head but I really don't know how to organize them.

I think I'll start with: I took this book because I've read Bethany-Kris' review and we have discussed the book. Like ohmygosh! lol I think it is an integral part of understanding this book not that it matters to me because when there's blood and guns I'm all in. Anyway, she distinguished the difference of this being a mafia romance and a cartel. So I'm going with those. I think my only experience with cartel is the book Cartel and The Gypsy Brothers by Lili St. Germain (yeah, I finally remember the book in answer to my IG story).

I actually have a hard time getting into the story at first. It is fast paced and there was never really a down time. Like you have to know the characters as you go along like in the way they act, they talk, their thoughts and their interactions with other people. But I think it was presented in a good way as the reader becomes the judge of the personality of the character and not how the author wants the reader to see it.

There lies where the distinction with mafia and cartel plays an important role. If you've read mafia (of course you know they're Italian), you know there's an unspoken rule of the status of the females in the family. There's also a certain way business is done and a lot of rules.

In this book, it is a group of organized family, or what we call the cartel. Now, I am not well versed in cartel business but they also dabbled in drugs, guns and trafficking. The Trinity's main business was in drugs, and they're actually the supplier.

In a way, this book made me think and made me read between the lines and connect the dots. It kind of irk me at first that there are time jumps or that there are scenes that felt like they were cut and that there should be more. In the end though, it added a sense of mysteriousness to the girls, the Trinity, and to what lengths they would do to help each other.

The time jumps felt like missing pieces for me. But I think one essential in the pacing of the story and where everything is going. The start, even though it is fast paced, feels like a slow burn, like it makes you want to feel angst and wants you to spill some blood and when you get to that part, it is somehow not exhausting.

Usually, I shy away from revenge books because they are exhausting. Like the author can't stress enough why the character needs to do this and that and that hate is strike with a match so that the flames would burn higher and higher as if the characters' lives depended on it. And one thing I find exhausting, emotionally.

This book however, is not like that. I actually don't know how to explain it but it's just something you would definitely enjoy the ride.

The relationship between Alec and Carissa is an all consuming feeling but is something that didn't leave them love-stupid but made them more cunning and the games they played were rather refreshing and hot and humorous!

One thing I love about this book is that you never know what will happen next. It would just feel like you've been blindsided because you never expected it to turn that way and that would make you feel like you miss something but you can't stop yourself to devour the words just so you'd know what will happen next.

Definitely an action packed story with a right amount of angst, killing and sexiness. And for a DEBUT novel? Kudos to the author! The Trinity is something to look forward to!

Well written and intriguing storyline. I loved the characters. They were complex and strong, the story flowed well, but a couple spots felt rushed in comparison to the story as a whole. I would love to read more about these characters, keeping fingers crossed for more.

Wow! J.L. Lora knocked it out of the park with her debut novel, Boss. I loved Boss, reading it almost straight through in one sitting. J.L. Lora's voice is exciting, you feel every emotion. This is my first mob romance so I may have been surprise how the story turned, but that didn't keep me from enjoying it to the end. Carissa Elliott is a strong character and well written. This woman has guts, and she never backs down. The scenes with Carissa and sexy Alec McLean were fun, and yes, I may have had a blushing moment or two.
Speaking of Alec McLean, sexy crime boss extraordinaire, he was a surprise. How can a crime boss be a hero? J.L. Lora makes it work. I loved how Carissa's best friends stood by her, and watching them give Alec 'gray hairs' was wonderful. Don't mess with a girlfriend's girlfriends! Again, J.L. Lora makes it believable. The pacing of Boss was great, never a dull moment. Each chapter was filled with danger and intrigue. J.L. Lora didn't push the romance between Carissa and Alec. Those two have their problems, and they needed time to come together in a happy-ever-after.
Thank you, J.L. Lora for a wonderful escape into a new world. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

This has been a very interesting read. Fast paced and with a good flow. Well written and edited. The crime aspects of the story were creating a very interesting setting for the characters to develop their traits. Carissa's and Alec's story was incredibly sexy and sweet and dangerous and funny and layered. They had explosive chemistry. Their connection and their journey made the reader definitely root for them despite their criminal records. This was definitely an interesting start for the Trinity Series and I will be here to read the continuation and the next installment of the series.

This book was a pleasant surprise. There was a level and depth I wasn't expecting. My issues with the book were in the time jumps and with how many characters were involved. It made it hard to keep all of the information in order. There were a couple of other discrepancies too but I won't mention those in order to not spoil anything.

I hope the suspense and intrigue keeps on in the next book.

This book was not what I expected, but better. The Mob and romance together I usually do not care for. But this was done in a way that it wasn't over done. The author caught me right away and I couldn't put the book down. The story line is fabulous and done with very good taste. I really liked this book and hope there is a book 2 to go with it.
A women can't be a Mob Boss, why not? Carissa was the head of the Trinity, which was made up of all girls. She became very powerful and well known. One night at a club, she meet Alec and there was instant sparks. She didn't want to admit it and as he came on to her, bullets started to fly. Alec pushed her to the floor and layed on top of her. Mel and Gia, Carissa's two girls was on the dance floor with Alec's brother and right hand man. Alec got her out of there and she ran and hid, hoping that would be the last time to see him.
Calum, he is a reall A-- and want Carissa to come back to him. But he is bad news and he is the one who killed her father and mother and friend. Now he is after her because she has something that can put him away for a long time.
The girls start a club of their own in New York City and Alec gets wind of it. He has to see Carissa again. Boy was she surprised to see him. Well things got very hot and steamy between them and Alec wants to have them join forces and go after Calum together. She don't trust him enough, but things happen and turn of events, so they did. Then one day the FBI blindfolds Carissa and takes her in for questioning and arrests her. Alc found out that she told on him and then disappeared. He has to find her and kill her, or at least make her pay for what she did.
As you keep reading, there a loads of twists and turns and a surprise or two. I was blown away by the FBI and what Carissa did. Then when Alec found her, I was so blown away with her and how she was. I never would of thought of it, especially two. From there the story got better and better. The ending was great and left room for more if the author chose to.

I'm rather disappointed because I thought this was a mafia romance book. This was not a mafia romance book. I think I was confused for the most part. I'm not the audience for this one. I had to put it down because it didn't hold my attention.

I was prepared for a kick-ass book when I read the first few chapters of BOSS, by J.L. Lora. Who couldn't pull for innocent women getting caught in the crosshairs of competing factions? I rallied behind Carissa and her friends Mel and Gia, hoping they were safe and far away from the warring families. The scenes were action packed, and I couldn't read fast enough. Then it's two years later, and turns out, the women aren't quite so innocent after all.

You see, Carissa (the lead female in this first book of a trilogy) is a "boss" who has thugs working for her. She's been "hiding out" and opening an exclusive nightclub in New York City with her two friends. But wait. The men she's been trying to hide from have taken two years to find her? They're principals in mob families who know and hate each other, and she and her friends are under the protection of principals in another known mob family and by a NYC gang. Unless I missed something, I don't understand how they wouldn't know where she was from almost the first moment she tried to go into hiding, and especially once she became so well known to the glitterati of NYC society.

Despite my confusion with who knew what and when, I thought this debut book was a good start for the author.

PROS: 1. The story rarely bogs down and is well written. I may not relate to the situations in the book, but I can't fault the author's writing style. It's fresh and non-repetitive. 2. The motivations of the characters are pretty apparent and their backgrounds strong. 3. The life-threatening scenes are full of tension and kept me riveted to those parts of the book. 4. The cover is awesome!!

CONS: 1. As the story began, I rooted for the three women who were in the wrong place at the wrong time. But when I found out just who they cozied up to, my support for them was short lived. 2. The romance between Carissa and Alec seemed a little far-fetched, especially towards the end of the book. 3. Frequently when I'm reading romances, I imagine what it would be like to be the heroine in the story. I wonder how I would react to other characters and the various situations that occur around them. In this book, I couldn't relate to any of the characters or what happened to them, though I wanted to find out who the ultimate villain was.

OVERALL: I believe the author has a good writing style, and I'll definitely read her future books. The story is fast-paced and full of engrossing action. And though I didn't care for the characters and what they got themselves into, they were fairly well drawn with strong motivations and good background stories. So if you like good mob romances, you should enjoy BOSS.

I am fortunate to have received a copy of this book from Victory Editing. As a lover of mafia books, at first this didn't stand out as anything special, but I ended up really falling for the characters and their struggles.
For a while, the pacing of the relationship between Carissa and Alec seemed very off, but after the second time jump I felt that this was mostly resolved. Also, I loved the relationship between the Trinity. It isn't common in a majority of mafia books for women to have a strong support system for one another, but I was so happy such strong women were included and that they were able to lean on each other.
I was confused at times by the Trinity's specific placement in the mafia world, but that is really my only main critique. It was a great mafia read that holds up to other popular ones.

Dark romance delight

Fast paced and full of characters who are, frankly, bad people. Yet, you can't help but root for them. Their loyalty to one another, their protectiveness, the vulnerability they show make you forget they're in organized crime. (side note: this is not a mafia story) I also love that the heroine isn't weak, and that she and her friends rescue each other more than turning to any of the men in the story. Full of danger and intrigue, Boss isn't your typical romantic suspense. No damsels in distress here, just kick-ass women taking care of business. Looking forward to Mel & Gia's stories!

When the time came for me to review this title, I was not sure what I would say that could adequately justify my feelings towards this book. Anyway, let me begin by saying that the story did not bowl me over.

When I chose to read this book, I had high expectations, which was based on the cover and the blurb. Intrigued by the concept of a female crime boss I could not wait to peel away the layers of what promised to be an exciting and riveting read. Unfortunately, however, the story did not deliver as expected. Not that I did not like it, but I did not love it.

The story began with Carissa at a nightclub with her friends. She was there to forget the pain, if even for one night, associated with the loss of her mother. While there, she met the mysterious Alec McLean. This meeting would pave the way for an alliance, which would prove a force to reckon with.

The story began on a high note, which increased my expectations for an exciting read. However, things took a turn when the story fast-forwarded two years later leaving me at a loss about what transpired between the night Carissa met Alec and her current situation. This fast-forwarding of time took place on more than one occasion. This is never a problem for me, however when I am left wondering what transpired during those missing moments then I have an issue. It appeared as if chunks of the story was missing. Despite this, the author held my attention, and I kept reading, as I was curious to see how the events would unfold.

I was expecting lots of action, but the story did not deliver in that area. There was action, but not as much as one would expect from a mafia/revenge romance. Things heated up at around the eighty percent mark. At that moment, I anxiously anticipated the outcome.

Regarding the characters, it pains me to admit this, but I was not feeling them. They did nothing for me. Honestly, it did not matter to me if they triumphed or failed. (You probably wondering how is it I felt that way, but still wanted to know the outcome. My curiosity to know the outcome of the story did not lie in the characters but in the manner of how the events were unfolding.) They were both dominant, which made for some interesting interactions. I did not like how Alec was quick to believe the worst of Carissa after all they had been through together. I guess it is safe to say when you are involved in criminal activities you are likely to believe everyone is out to get you.

I figured out from the outset who could not be trusted in the scheme of things but having the story narrated also from the villain’s point of view would have made things more interesting. The ending was ok mostly, but it left me with questions, which I am hoping will be answered in book two.

Conclusion/Recommendation
Boss is an interesting story. If you enjoy mafia/revenge romance, then you may enjoy this story. Although I had issues, I still enjoyed the book. I have started reading book two, as I would love to get the answers to the many questions I have.

Boss sucked me right into the action from the start, a desperate woman on the run from one criminal who finds herself right in the path of another.
First, I want to say something - when I sat down with this book, based on the blurb, I expected your usual mafia type book - that is NOT this book. Though the term "made man" is used - in both the synopsis and book - it's not exactly the same as with other mafia books. Which gave me my first clue that this book was going to be something different.
Carissa is running from a criminal mastermind when first we meet her, one who has hurt her several times over and has his very own plans where she's concerned. Plans she doesn't want to be any part of, especially not after all the man has done to her. After returning from a night of what was supposed to be fun with her friends, Carissa finds her life turned upside down again and she sets out on a path for revenge. I loved that she's a strong, feisty, smart woman.
Alec is the head of his family's criminal enterprise, he finds himself drawn to a stranger while at a club with his brother, but after a brief moment of connection, they are drawn apart during a moment of chaos but Alec finds himself wanting to find this woman again.
Boss is full of twists and turns, both expected and unexpected, all that drew me further into the story. The bonds between Carissa and her friends - those that make up the Trinity- are amazing and really made for a great depth of character. There is a lot of action which propels the book at a seemingly fast pace, but it moves in such away that its not hard to grasp.
This is a story with power and intrigue, with characters who are hard to pin down as being 'good' or 'bad' at first, but a host of actions and reasons that make it all understandable, even though its complicated.
The romance between the two is built up throughout the book, but it doesn't feel like the main focus of the story, which in turn makes it not seem rushed. I enjoyed the interactions between these two and watching how it all came together.
Boss drew me straight into this world of criminal empires, making me curious to know more about each and every character and pulling out many emotions. I'll definitely have to follow the rest of this series and see how it all turns out.

Boss was the first book written by J.L. Lora, and I LOVED EVERY MINUTE of it She blew me away with her talented writing style, and I can honestly say that she's already firmly added to my list of addictions. And with such off the charts levels of suspense, I'm going to try and break it down generally so I don't give anything away. Carissa Elliot was caught up in a violent world when she was a young girl, but since growing up, she's doing everything in her power to stay away from that world at all costs. Unfortunately, even after she fled her hometown, that violent world is still determined to keep her firmly planted in the cross hairs. See, she has proof that the very dangerous, Calum DeMateo killed her father, which many people want to get their hands on, but that isn't even the worst part of it, Calum has made it clear that he will do whatever it takes to make her his. So Carissa has to reinvent herself into a New York crime boss with her best friends, which has her crossing paths with Alec McLean, the sexy stranger she met when she was at her lowest. Alec is the head of his own family's criminal organization, who needs the proof that she has, in order to exact his own revenge on Calum. And while they have a very strong attraction, he has to convince her that his plan to take down Calum is better. Will this path of vengeance destroy any chance at love they have? Wow, that was hard, and I said more than I wanted to, but the layers of this heart pounding goodness are many. Ms. Lora's twists & turns were around every corner, and by the end, all I could do was drop loud f-bombs, as more than one twist blindsided me, especially the biggest ones at the end! I LOVED Alec, and Carissa, although each of them at different times had me wanting to shake them individually, but together, they were TNT, which when ignited, blew FIERY FLAMES of sexy times sky high, and no drawers will be safe from destruction. And the extremely entertaining cast of secondaries kept me laughing, as the witty banter was EPIC, especially The Trinity together! I CANNOT WAIT to read more in this series, and the fantastic J.L. Lora in the very near future! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I will start by saying that I really enjoyed this BUT.......its not what I would call a Mafia romance. Maybe more suspense romance?

Mafia - besides the mention of drugs, thugs and some guns there really wasn't any crime happening within the storyline. Carissa was running from a crime boss but it never said she had personally been involved with crime or running drugs herself. She becomes a crime boss by aligning herself with another crime figure and ends up running a night club yet once again a lack of crime associated with it. Carissa has been on the side of crime but not involved personally. Once I dismissed the whole crime/mafia part as being an important part of the story I then sat back and enjoyed the read.

The story and characters themselves were a good mix and you could feel the chemistry between Carissa and Alec. We also get enough information on the others characters to see who will be involved with the next books. I'm interested in reading the next ones to see if the mafia/crime is involved a bit more.

This is a great book from J L Lora. Carissa Elliott has escaped from mob boss Calum DeMateo who has had designs on her since she was a child. Carissa came home one day to find her best friend Braeden murdered in the flat that they shared. Carissa, along with her best friends Mel and Gia, all strong, no nonsense women known as the Trilogy fled to start a new life away from Calum's clutches...could they ever escape Calum's clutches ?

Enter crime boss Alec McClean who also has issues with Calum and who has off the scale chemistry with Carissa.

Carissa will never be safe while Calum is alive, Alec is determined to protect her, although Carissa is just as determined to fight her own battles.

What was Braeden's connection with Alec ? Why was the letter that Carissa's father left for her with Braeden so important to Alec ? Who was the traitor ?

This is an action packed book with murder, suspense treachery and of course romance. It was a real page turner and I look forward to reading more from this author. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Boss is the first book in The Trinity series, it is a romantic suspense with a happily for now ending. There are no cliffhangers in this first installation of the series by J.L Lora.  Boss is a multi-dimensional book with complex characters each with their own demons and motivation. The story is initially centered around Clarissa and Alex but as the story progresses one gets glimpses into the lives of the people who love and protect them.

The setting of each place was immaculately constructed to transport the reader to the place abandoning their reality to the world that was created. Boss is a well-developed at the edge of your seat romantic thriller. The only growth area in this book is the suspense should have been held a little longer. The dialogue was strong and kept the reader informed without being confusing, J.L Lora took a complex plot with multi-layered characters and delivered each scene with ease. Boss was a great read and I look forward to reading more from this author.

* I received an ebook from the author but that in no way influenced my review or opinion. *

This review is a 3.5 stars so I rounded up.

This is my first book by author J.L. Lora. I really wanted to give it 5 stars, but there were a few things that it was missing for me...I was intrigued by the concept of the book and was slightly disappointed that it didn't follow the path that I had expected. I felt like some of the Mafia stuff wasn't there....what was Alec the head of? What made it mafia? I felt like it was more of a romance than anything. Carissa was against all things mafia, however, she turned into a Boss pretty quickly...everything that she was against she became involved in and that bothered me from a readers standpoint. I felt like I couldn't trust her or relate to her because she never stood by her values and decisions....weird, I know, but hey, that is why it is my opinion.

The storyline did flow pretty quickly, once the reader realized that they had to let go of all of their previous expectations and just dive into it. The characters and their personalities were fun, flirty and loyal to those they considered family. I enjoyed the characters and would love to see a book about Mel and Leo in the future (the near future).

The storyline was good, once I got past my own issues with the description and the actual story that I was reading. The author kept the readers guessing and they were never able to predict what was going to happen next...especially the ending of the story. Overall it is a good read and I would recommend it, just don't read the back first - start out fresh!

An enjoyable read that will leave you satisfied when you are finished. Sit back and one-click this one today - it is worth reading!

It's been awhile since I have read a book with a strong female character that runs her own organization. This book surprised me by how much I liked it and was thoroughly impressed.

Carissa slowly makes a name for herself through this book after losing important people in her life one after another. She must make a choice to be predator or prey which will lead her down a path she never saw coming. She has a no care attitude and won’t take any smack from anyone!

Alec sees Carissa in a club one night and starts an infatuation with her. When she disappears without a trace, he won’t stop until he finds her again. Once reunited they must work together to both get what they wanted in the end.

Will they be able to give up some of their power to work together?

This book was an interesting read.

This was a wonderfully written novel about mobsters and a life of crime with a romantic twist to it.

It is a book full of serious life issues, trauma, heartache, heartbreak, love , lotsa of action and fun and full of humor. The ending is completely hilarious.

Carissa and the trinity are amazing. They gone through so much being stuck around different mob personalities in their life. But finally Carissa takes a stand not willing to put up with these violent men anymore and she becomes the one bad guys fear.

Alec oh man he yummy but such a giant jerk. Some chapters I want to shoot him lol. But he falls for her so head over heels and sometimes doesn't understand what to do with that.

I look forward to reading more from this lovely author. She is a gem being discovered.

I enjoyed this book! I was only planning on reading the first three chapters, but I ended up putting it down only after I've finished reading everything (which was three hours past my bedtime on a weeknight).

As a mafia/mob romance book, I liked that she wrote it in a way that the female characters are not all damsels in distress. I liked the idea of women being in power and outsmarting those who underestimate their capabilities.

As for Carissa and Alec's love story, I think it was well written to a point that the readers can actually feel what the characters are feeling. Some parts left me with so much angst I felt like I was part of the story.

Definitely excited to read the next part of this series!

All I can say is wow! What an absolutely amazing book that was fast-paced, well-written with complex characters, danger, loyalty, extortion, manipulation, traitors, kidnapping, drama, suspense, plots twists, undeniable chemistry, and so much more - everything you want in organized crime fiction! I was immediately captivated and couldn't put the book down until I read the last word. It is a perfect start to the Trinity Series by new-to-me author J.L. Lora and I can't wait to see what happens next. If you enjoy well-crafted books that keep you on the razor's edge, don't miss "Boss". I received a free copy of this book from Book Sirens and am voluntarily leaving my review.

I received this book via NetGalley.com in exchange for my honest review.

Where to start? Carissa and Alec's story is one that will take you on a rollercoaster ride. You will laugh, smile, cry, and scream.

At the beginning I thought one thing of Carissa and then I changed my mind and then changed it again. While I knew who Alec was and what he stood for he also grew during the story and my views on him changed and became stronger.

At first I thought Carissa was running away from the business. But then when she was with her "Sisters" it appeared that she was still using her connections with the business. That kind of conflicted with her thoughts upon meeting Alec for the first time. She was dead set on not being with a man in the business. So it confused me when she was still playing in the business to help get her club up and running.

I found Alec to be easy to bond with. The author gave us a clear view of him from the start. He didn't appear to be a "horrible" businessman, but you understood the undertones of his business.
I found that I was more empathetic to his situation because Carissa confused me at times.

The story is well written and engaging. I just wish it didn't end so swiftly and I still have a few questions but I would recommend this read.

Debut novel for this author is amazingly easy to enjoy. Mafia romances are exceptionally well enthralling but this takes the cake with the woman being a BOSS.
A chance encounter for Alec and Carissa come off hot an heavy with the first kiss. However, when bullets fly, it's time for Carissa to hit the road.
"She was running from one mobster already, no way in hell was she about to tangle with another."
Years later with her best friends, the Trinity is formed. Not expecting to see Alec again, Carissa is taken off guard. I'm not sure if it is because she wasn't expecting him or that the chemistry for these two is still off the charts.
Chaos comes at them from both sides and not everyone is protected. It's drama filled and wouldn't be an mafia romance with some blood shed.....
I loved the ending! Carissa is still bossing Alec around!!
