Kindred #6

Shadow's Light

Rate this book
From Amazon Romantic Suspense, Mystery Romance and Fantasy Bestselling Author Nicola Claire comes another exciting continuation of the Kindred Series.

"I felt hot tears streaming down my cheeks at his words. Spoken so carelessly, but with such shameless intent. He knew how I felt. How I had been feeling. How lost and alone and full of grief my days had been. Avery was not a friend. Not even a trusted acquaintance. But he understood what I was going through. Even if he didn't have a compassionate bone in his entire buffed body, he knew what I had suffered. I didn't have to justify my behaviour to him."

Walking out on her life and hiding in the only place she can think of that the Iunctio - the vampire governing body - and in particular, the Champion, can not find her, Lucinda faces eternity alone and on the run. Heartbroken, bereft and quite desolate she hides in amongst the lowest forms of vampire society.

Doing what she can to keep the innocents safe, while denying herself the support she desperately needs to recover from such personal losses.

A saviour of sorts arrives, but can he be trusted? Avery Rousseau has only ever been interested in himself. But the handsome, arrogant and always so well-put-together vampire does seem to care. At least he offers a distraction from the heartache and loss. Lucinda battles with her inherent mistrust of the one vampire who understands what she is going through.

But should she allow him inside her crumbling walls?

More than just vampires stalk Lucinda though. There is a fairy who claims she is his one true love. Lucinda is called to his Light, she can't help reaching for it, but to do so could have everlasting consequences she may not be prepared to face.

As time runs out - first with the Iunctio, then the Ljósálfar - Lucinda must do what she has to do, to survive, before her heartache breaks her in two.

But memories plague her, her mind starts to play cruel tricks and slowly reality begins to crumble, taking a once strong and confident Nosferatin down as quickly as a predator catches its prey.

And now, there are just so many predators, Lucinda may not stand a chance at all at avoiding being their prey.

I loved this one, best so far.

I've had a bit of a love/hate relationship with this series, it's probably not helped that I've read the first 6 books in 7 days and I've found Lucinda a bit much at times with hindsight I might have benefitted from a break especially between the earlier books.
Anyway this was the best book so far for me which was surprising because I generally avoid books with fey in them although I did find Lutin funny in the previous one.
I couldn't read fast enough and even though I knew/guessed everything which would happen plus one which hasn't been announced yet, it didn't matter I really loved this book and this review is short because I can't wait to start 'Entwined with the Dark'
I just want to thank the friend that recommended this series I'll admit I had my doubts early on but not anymore.

These books just keep getting better and better. After the cliff hanger that was Dancing Dragon I couldn't wait to get my hands on Shadow's Light, all the while praying that the author would put me out of my misery. It would be so easy to spoil the story for you here, so I'll just say that once again Claire manages to surprise, delight, intrigue, please and wow the reader in this instalment. More fairies, lots of vampire action, heartbreak, romance and a whole lot of adventure. I LOVE THESE BOOKS!

Really?

I don't even know what to say about this one. Writer has talent, but I think she thrives on trying to piss off her readers. Every book has her characters doing such stupid things. Spoiler alert. The reasoning for them not joining the moment she got to Paris made no sense. After they joined could the council really harm her vampire after she came like they asked. She would not have been breaking any rules and her just coming would have for ed them to have to give her up. To force that abominable joining and take away Michels power and connection to her really hurt this story. Why won't this writer take her own wording to heart. They are stronger when they are together. We love reading about these two again st the world, but this author just loves putting obstacles between them. I get that, but the cheating and now another kindred bond I'd just an awful choice she made. If the series was not finished and I didn't know they end up together, I would not have gotten past the second book in this series not putting it past this author to not write an HEA. I can say that knowing the kids dark of things she will do to her characters, I can say I won't be reading any more of her stories. Too frustrating.

I had the pleasure of an advanced copy by the author.

The sixth book of Nicola Claire's "Kindred" world fulfilled all the hopes a reader of this series could have and some more. With a very dramatic end in book 5 , the author was able to grap the reader in the first pages again in a tight fist and didn't let go till the last page was turned.

Ms Claire , who created this new Vampire world went past this very popular genre and took a deep dive into Fantasy world, which I believe was neither disturbing nor unbelievable. It just worked. The main characters had to deal with these new circumstances and it was fascinating how Nicola Claire threw them curveballs over and over and they still came out of the tunnel.

Almost all characters from the previous books had appearances and follow ups of their story was included. The writing was, as always, a pleasure. The wording of emotions and feelings of the protagonists felt real and fitting.

The author even included a new character ,Gigi, the heroine of her new series Mixed Blessings" which will come out sometime this winter and will include a big part of the characters of the Kindered World.

Over all, the new author Nicola Claire delivered again a beautiful book, which surpassed many of it's genre. She did not write in a form of an caret , which wines down and eventually will be in a flatline , but like a rocket ascending to the stars - so Ms Claire, let us see more stars, please.

I highly recommend the entire series.

*Mon dieu. Je me suis trompé. tellement tort. S'il vous plaît pardonnez-moi.*

I had the absolute pleasure of receiving an ARC for this book and I couldn't be any happier. I should have known to trust in Nicola Claire to steer this series where it needed to go. I had that small hope that something would grab a hold of me in this and it did, multiple times. I never should have doubted for a moment. This book was filled with everything you could imagine, as the others have been, but something about this one made me like it so much more. I even devoured this one within a 24hour period. The connections between everyone just seemed to have shone so much more for me and made it feel a bit more "intimate" between certain people.

Some characters weren't as prominent in this book as in others and new ones had appeared but it just allowed to see Luce in a somewhat different "light" and to see her grow in ways that she wouldnt have otherwise. As usual, a multitude of emotions all rolled up into the awesomeness of a single book. Luce definitely has had her hands full and obviously will continue that pattern, in style of course. The storyline is constantly evolving and with each book I appreciate the last one just a bit more because of the journey it took to get there.

My only complaint is supposedly having to wait until sometime in 2013 for the next one. Be still my beating heart! *sigh*

I really do hate giving reviews with spoilers, and OMG, this book is full of so much happening that it is hard not to give it all away. Let's just say that the bad things that happened at the end of book five are somewhat resolved here, but there are far more complications that ever before. This has quickly turned into one of my favorite series yet.

Boy it would see like Luce can't get s break. From one captured to the other and escaping or overcome both enemies and problems seen to not be in her future.

I am in awe of her resilience, strength, stubbornness and above all else her love for Michel.

Entertaining as always

Nicola easily captured my attention in this book. Even though I accidentally read some spoilers I was still able to get lost in the story. The challenges Lucinda has to face increase to an unbearable level in this book. That seems almost impossible since she already has a ton of crap on her plate from the previous 5 books. I'm sure I had my lip poked out on several occasions while reading.

My only complaint is the detailed surveillance of what each vampire is wearing. I skip those parts because they are too long and unnecessary. The descriptions are usually right before the plot thickens, so it does provide some foreshadowing. Or a waste of valuable reading time. This depends on the reader and how much time they have.

Go ahead and buy all 8. I wish I did that since I obviously must finish the whole series then search for all Nicola books and start on those as well. Happy Reading:)

Argh!!!!!

I loved and hated this book. It made me smile and cry and also want to throw my kindle against the wall. There was so much that happened in this book. Many surprises throughout. I why'd love try strangle the champion and Avery. I really cannot stand those two. I really hope karma bites them on the butt. I feel for Lucinda, her mind has been raped over and over, and it breaks my heart. Now on a whole other note, I do not understand two things. One why does she not consider the friend fairy relating to the bond (or even why she did not go ahead without a blessing, since it could not change in their eyes). Second, I do not understand why she would not use her light to set a new bond for a vampire who has a dark master. I thought that was one of her purposes. Either way, great book and I am looking forward to the next. It seems like each installment is getting better and better.

This book takes places a few months after the last book ended. Lucinda is not in a good place. She's hurting a whole lot. And she's also running. But when she gets found bad things start to happen. Not only is she trying to stay away from Avery, but also the Fae but then something bad happens and she gets taken. She must do everything in her power to get out before it is too late.

This book was okay. It got slightly boring at times. But I totally loved the end! I was so happy that happened. I kind of hated the stuff that happened between Lucinda and the Fae. That really sucked. But I think she did okay considering everything that had happened. I'm not very anxious to read the next book!

I almost wrote this series off after the previous book. I thought for sure, there was no way it went that route. I was pissed, in a good way I guess you could say. I'm so glad I got over my trepidation with book two, because with every book this series gets better and better. Typically with a series this lengthy I get bored. With this series, I'm purchasing the next immediately after I'm done. I'm almost wishing this would end soon so I can get my life back, lol. Compelling, original, love the twists.

Another Winner

I honestly had to take a break before reading this book. The last was so bitter in my mind I was afraid and too anxious to read this right away. Now that is what great books do! I knew about Michel but... it wasn't any easier to get through. The newest challenges are just as powerful in this as the previous and that takes talent, thoughtfulness, ingenuity and characters that represent more to the story than ones that aren't as well developed. Amazing dance through snags and snafus.

New star

I have this particular book an added star because it got better to me the second time I read it. I really think this whole series is like aged wine. It just gets better and better with time! Me Claire clearly is a seasoned storyteller. She probably my was the girl who friends wanted .let at their sleepovers because she told just wonderful spooky tales about creatures of the night.
I really enjoyed this series and am looking forward to starting my next new obsession crime her very soon!

Omg this series!!! Well this book has done me in. I was really upset at the start and really felt for Lucinda, even I felt broken never mind her!! The Light and Dark Fey add a great twist to the story, not quite playing out the way you thought it would. By the end of the book I really hated what the Champion forced Lucinda to do, her and Michel never seem to get a break, thank goodness for his Dragon. Next book now please!

I wish to thank the author for the wonderful surprise in this book, okay so it was expected but still made me so happy. All that carp with Avery and Lutin, not so much. I did come away from this one with a sense of all is almost right with Lucindas world, and wait for the axe to fall in the next book.

The Fairy now too!

Nicola Claire really has a gift in taking traditional vampire romance and turning it into a tale of endurance, trials and tribulations for lovers, Luce and Michel. Stricken with grief and in the run, Lucinda is in deep and alone without her vampire by her side. Can’t stand the Fairy, dark or light their motives are as bad the vampire Iunctio.

Nope

Meh... felt like this book wasn’t really up to par. It felt like situations could have been avoided but weren’t in order to create a storyline for the following books. I hate when writing is done this way. When something can obviously be avoided, and under normal circumstances would, but isn’t.
