Update: I've been informed that that's exactly what happens in the book. Another book by a sexist author that creates double standards between H/h. So sick of this shit. It helps a tiny bit that *major spoiler* but it still rubs me the wrong way
If the heroine has been celibate the last 14 years while the hero has not then it'll go straight into the hell no pile
I can’t believe that an author able to write such a wonderful hero as the one in Strayed could write one of the worst heroes ever. The book is wrong and made me physically sick. Heroine dumped by the hero who wanted to sample the lady’s buffet before committing to good old her, drugged and raped and got pregnant by the hero’s father at 16, threatened by him, left town. 14 years later she’s back and meet the scum hero who acts all entitled because she left 14 years before preggo and he had to marry his pregnant gf, the one he left the heroine for. He keeps fucking other women (plural) after he has sex with her. He treats her like dirt when he’s the one with all the fault. This book is trash and I will delete it permanently from my kindle. Avoid it like the plague. Uh, wait… I was forgetting. She stays celibate 14 years. I just can’t.
On a rainy day in Arrow Creek, W. Va., Cami waits in line at a café, completely unaware that the man in front of her is the boy she fell in love with as a child. Unaware that he’s the same boy she left behind at the age of sixteen. Unaware that he still harbors deep resentment towards her. Unaware that he’s going to upend the sweet life she’s built for herself and her daughter.
Cami has a good life… a career as a paramedic, a home, and a wonderful child. Things many take for granted. But for Cami, the life she leads is a gift, albeit one lacking in the romance department. Pregnant at sixteen, Cami left her family in order to have her child. Moreover, she left the only place she called home in order to protect Lawrence from a secret that would have devastated him. Yeah, Cami is selfless.
Mercurial is an understatement in describing Lawrence Briggs. He must be one of the moodiest book boyfriends I have ever read. If you’re looking for a guy that’s going to give you the warm and fuzzy feeling throughout the book, then you’ll have to look elsewhere. He’s definitely not for everyone. Law keeps you on your feet: you never know if he’s going to say something sweet or something that will make you want to slap him. Full disclosure: I love it when I don’t know what to expect from a book boyfriend. Moreover, I love it when they have a dirty mouth like Law.
This is my first book by A.M. Wilson and it’s certainly not going to be my last. This gem is beautifully written and took me on a bit of an emotional rollercoaster ride. With so many years and secrets between Cami and Law, you can’t help but wonder: how are they going to be able to put the past behind and move forward?
This second chance story is filled with several twists and turns. There were times when I placed my palm against my chest almost in tears, times when I uttered “what the what?” and times I wanted to shake and slap Law.
I look forward to reading more of A.M. Wilson’s books and hope she’ll write Kiersten’s story.
This book was not that bad. I can usually figure out the plot fairly quickly. I must say I was very surprised at the story line and where it went. With the the dad and everything. And yes he raped the h. He gave her drugs, took advantage of an underage girl and had sex with her when she was passed out. That being said it made me mad she blamed herself for what had happened. I understand that she was young when it happened but come on its been 14 years, grow up!! Being in the medical field I would assume she has come across a few pieces of materials that talked about rape? Date rape? non consensual sex? Etc etc etc. but not this h she goes on blaming herself for "seducing" the slime of a dad. Then we have the H aka as the zero, a big fat zero!!! I get it he is young (when they are in high school) he wanted to date other people, understandable. As a parent of a 16 year old I completely get it. But he came back 2 weeks later wanting for the h to forgive him. Now this is where the book pisses me off. Fast forward 14 years and the H has become unite the man whore while the h, has not been with any one else. Why do authors do that to us readers?? I get that men and women look for different things in sex but I find it much more believable if the h was in a relationship than in deep freeze!
The ending was predictable and the HEA ensued!

I love AM Wilson’s writing so I was very excited to read this one. It is a bit different and not as dark as her other books, but I really enjoyed it. This story had my emotions all over the place. I went from being happy one minute to annoyed and frustrated the next. There were times when I wanted to scream at both of these characters and times when I just wanted to hug them. So I guess you can say I felt it all.
Law and Cami have been friends since they were younger and as teenagers they were each other’s first kiss. At that time in their life they planned on being each other’s firsts for a lot of things. They were in love and knew that they were two people who would be together forever. Until one fight between the two of them changed everything. What came next for Cami was completely unexpected and scary. She was pregnant at only 16 years old and had no choice but to leave town if she wanted to raise her baby on her own. The next 14 years of her life she spent without her best friend, but always thinking of him and letting the guilt she felt consume her. But her daughter was her number one priority and that is how it would always be.
It has been 14 years since Law has seen the girl he once loved. When he runs into her one day at a coffee shop so many emotions go through him. I think for one he cannot believe that he has finally come face to face with her after all these years. But he is still very bitter and very angry for the way she left. There is so much still between these two, there is anger, hurt, resentment but also so much love, even if they cannot admit it at the moment. There is also one big secret that is being kept and once that comes out it could completely destroy any chance that these two have. Will they get their second chance?
I really enjoyed this book but I was a little conflicted as well. I loved the storyline and I had a hard time putting this book down. I wanted to know what happened 14 years ago that caused Cami to leave. Yes I knew part of it but I wanted the whole story and when it finally came out wow!! I did not see that one coming. I loved Cami and seeing what really happened made me love her even more for leaving and making a life for herself and her daughter. She is a really strong woman that I admired.
When it comes to Law, I wanted so much to love him, I really did. I knew that he still loved Cami and over the years he still thought of her. I also know that her leaving completely shattered him and that he was hurt and angry. But I don’t think that justified his words and actions. There were times when I just wanted to punch him and then there were moments where my heart went out to him and I wanted to hug him. The years since losing Cami weren’t necessarily kind to him and he has been through so much in his life. I just wanted to understand his actions a little more. But this is where I am a little conflicted as well. I wanted more emotion and communication between them. I wanted Cami to get angry when she had every right to be. I wanted to understand Law a little better and answers to why he did some of the things that he did. I just felt she was too forgiving in some moments. Did I forgive him in the end? Yes I did but it I still wanted to punch him at times.
This book will bring out so many emotions. At times I felt like I had whiplash with the back and forth between Law and Cami. Just when things seemed to be going really bad something would happen that would make me smile again. But at the same time I questioned it while it was happening. That’s just how much this story played with my emotions and my trust in the characters. I loved the supporting characters, especially Nathan I really hope that we get to see more of them in the future.
There's so much to this story than mere romance. But it shows the strenght, character and true love. Cami went through so much yet she choose to survive it all loss of her family, her innocence and even the boy who is her one and only love. Fate has a different way and got them to meet again. Hatred for being abandoned consumed Law since Cami left him.She left with a dark secret to protect not only herself, her baby and the father but most of all Law. His hurt was deep most especially upon knowing who fathered her child. Pride, painful accusations of seduction and disgust. He wanted to be her first even as they reunited, even though she lost it to someone else. In real sense, he is her first and the only that counts. But the truth set them both free and it helped him understand and accept her truth. This story pulled my heart string because no matter what they feel. To forget is not possible, the heart can only beat for each other. So sweet that Law remembered every detail of their dream house as kids and upon seeing her for the first time felt that, Cami is his forever. Soooo good! Thank you!
This story has put me through the ringer. My emotions have whiplash from the back and forth, bouncing off the walls, being anxious one second and pissed off the next. If you want a book that is going to have you experiencing every emotion possible, from beyond happy to scared to pissed and then right back to the beginning, A.M. Wilson wrote the perfect story for you.
Law and Cami have been best friends since they were 7 and Law moved to town. They've basically been attached at the hip. At some point, they moved right into loving each other. It was a natural progression that just happened. Until one day it all changed. That's a day that changed everything for the next 14 years until they are faced with each other again. They had hopes and dreams that included each other. Nothing is ever set in stone. They'll be the first to tell you. People and their situations are not always what meets the eye.
I swear, at parts I thought Law was more emotional and hormonal than a woman. He was so back and forth. I understood where it was all coming from, but that didn't mean it didn't irritate me a little. He had a lot to take in. As did Cami at some points. She's survived this long. It's been her and her daughter. They've made this great life with a few friends that helped them along the way. Cami wouldn't have made it this far without her best friend.
There was one point while reading that I looked up to my left. At a picture of my kids and just broke down. It was an extremely emotional part of the story. It took everything in me not to sob uncontrollably. That's kind of how this story is. While it has many parts that has you smiling like a fool, there were also countless times when I found myself on the verge of tears. This is a story of limitless love, growth, loss, forgiveness, and new beginnings. It's a beautiful story that I found myself completely immersed in and unable to put it down. At the Risk of Forgetting is a story I'm guaranteed to never forget. Absolutely beautiful and breathtaking.
There was nothing appealing about the Hero at all. The way he spoke to the heroine was downright rude and pathetic. And it annoyed me more how the Heroine *let* him speak to her like that. she kept saying how she was done with him even after his 'hurtful words' but all he had to do was kiss her, whip his *cough* dick out and she forgets everything and suddenly remembers how much she wants him. And then we're back to square one... Hero disappears. Heroine is sad... then she's all 'fuck him'. I just didn't feel the connection between them at all. Heck there was more chemistry between Cam and Nathan - her paramedic partner.
I was hoping for more interactions with her daughter Evelyn. She seemed like such a likeable character that could've been explored further. I wanted to see her relationship with Law but we didn't see any. which was disappointing.
oh and then the little reveal at the end regarding how Cam got pregnant was... interesting. It really didn't work for me. I felt like it didnt got with the story and felt like it came out of nowhere. I don't even know how it effected the relationships of those involved.
Looking at the other reviews it looks like others enjoyed this story immensely. But for me... it wasn't my cup of tea.
When they were teenagers, Cami gets her heart broken by Law, her best friend, which leads to an event that she can’t and (albeit sad and awful) wouldn’t take back because it gave her something precious. However, that led to her breaking Law’s heart. Fourteen years later, they stumble upon each other in a coffee shop in Arrow Creek. Cami has made a life for her and her daughter, and as hard as she tries to keep Law out of her life, every time she turns around, there he is, unable to escape him.
There is so much push and pull between these two characters, it was definitely an emotional roller coaster ride. There was so much heartbreak, lies, secrets and uncertainty between Cami and Law, but I rooted for these two until the very end and it was so worth the ride. There was some angst and a twist that I was not expecting! Definitely recommend it! I won this book in a giveaway recently, and dove in right away! This is my first book by the author and I loved her writing. She hooked me in from page one. I couldn’t put it down! I really loved this second chance romance. I'll definitely be checking out more of her work!
No billionaires or alpha males here. Every day people struggling through every day, or perhaps exceptional, circumstance.
Law and Cami were soul mates in school. When Law wanted the opportunity to date another person before committing to Cami; Cami who had lost both parents and a brother, could not handle losing another. Her one night looking for love resulted in a child. Cami spent the next 14 years committed to raising her daughter in another town.
When fate puts these two in each other’s path again – sparks and tempers fly. Each feel that draw to the other person, but also the hurt from the past.
Amazing story of second chances, and the decisions you make along the way. As their history is revealed, and the reality of their current situation escalates we are taken on a journey of growth and the power of love and forgiveness. A powerful read.
What a wonderful story. Beautifully written with moments that will threaten to tear your heart right out of your chest. This storyline was amazing in it's delivery. The story of Cami and Law, from their beginning, middle and end keep you rivited and hoping against all hope that they will finally put the painful past behind them and find their happiness. It is a great story with delightfully well developed characters who you will fall in love with right from the start.
I highly recommend this book! Just get it, you won't be sorry.
If you like stories that give you ALL the feels or characters that make you so mad or upset that you want to throw your kindle, then this book is for you! This is a second third fourth chance romance with a side of teenage pregnancy. The h goes through more in her short life than any one person should. You just feel for her from the get go. The H is sexy and sweet one minute and extremely infuriating the next. Very emotional read!
The writing will draw you in after only a few pages and have you finishing the book in one sitting. There is the perfect amount of angst and romance and grit to keep you hooked.
I loved how their relationship unfolded so we could see these amazing characters grow in ways you never expected. I would suggest picking up a copy asap, you will not be disappointed.

I understand being hurt by someone, but the way the "Hero" of the story spoke to the heroine irritated me. I would think the Heroine would stand up for herself and simply remove him and his stinky attitude from her life, but she didn't and he simply kept popping up. There was no character growth or connection for me. I was thrown into a story that made me hate the male lead.
I enjoyed it BUT Law did and said things that were awful and she didn't do squat about it, just aww I love you Law. I get true love, but it doesn't mean being a floor mat.
I went through a rollercoaster of emotions with this book and most of them were because of Law. He gets on your nerves one second and has you blushing and panting the next. There are years of resentment between Law and Cami but even when they're at odds, you can feel their connection and love for each other. It's a wild ride but in the end, I had a big smile on my face.
To blame it all on a woman for everything that went wrong in their life. Can someone explain to me exactly how all the crap that happened in Law’s life after they broke up was Cami’s fault? If Im not mistaken, he was the one who wanted to see other people. He was the one who broke Cami’s heart first by going out with Steph (and sleeping with her might I add) just to make sure that it was Cami that he wanted in the end. He was the one who got back together with Steph and got her pregnant and married her. No one put a gun to his head and forced him to do all those things, so please someone, anyone explain to me why Cami gets the blame for all of the miscarriages he went through? What’s worse is that Cami actually believe it’s her fault his life turned to crap. “Love of my life” my bum. The love of his life is any breathing thing he could stick his pencil into. Bad overall message to any young impressionable reader out there to make it seem like it’s okay for a man to treat a woman this way.
What a story of two people who loved each other fourteen years ago, but where torn apart because of one man. This story kept me turning pages, as the lie they both unknowingly lived with comes to light. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
At the Risk of Forgetting was a very emotional and chaotic story. My emotions were all over the place with this one. If you want to experience every emotion out there, then this book is for you. This is the first book I have read by A.M Wilson, and I loved it! I will definitely be reading more books from her.
Law and Cami have been best friends since they were little. They fell in love at such a young age. Their love was timeless and forever and both knew that. When Law breaks Cami's heart, she feels so lost and alone that she makes the worst mistake imaginable. Or so she believes. Then the unimaginable happens. She packs up her things and leaves town without a word. Fifteen years later, Cami and Law meet again. Secrets are revealed.
I really liked Law as a character. He said some really awful things to Cami and done some terrible things that I literally wanted to slap him. But I understood him. I felt he had reason to. Law lost the love of his life for fifteen years and never heard from her. He searched for her for months. Lived a life with a woman that wasn't for him and suffered through a lot of tragedy. So yeah, when he sees Cami after fifteen years, of course he is going to let his anger come through. I don't blame him there. He really has suffered so much. And after meeting her, I don't think he really knew how to control his feelings. He was constantly back and forth with her.
Cami really showed her strength in this book. She was a strong female heroine who tried to live her life to the fullest. She had to grow up at such a young age and face responsibilities that a sixteen year old should never face. But she did. All by herself. She has lived with so much guilt and pain that she believed everything was her fault. And she never let that go. Never let Law go. She also had to go through a horrible upbringing. So when Law broke her heart, he was all she had left. Besides her brother. Meeting Law again sparked a little hope for her. She wondered if they could fix what was broken. Find their way back together.
I loved all the supporting characters as well. Cami's best friend Kiersten was hilarious. She was the life of the party. Very blunt. Always said what was on her mind and what she felt. Loved that about her. Kiersten was there for Cami through thick and thin. She is a best friend anyone would want to have. I also loved Nathan. He faced tragedy in his life as well and still pulled through and lived. He was such a sweetheart. I am hoping something good happens for him.
Cami is faced with something very horrific when tragedy strikes. She comes face to face with every mother's worst fear. This was so emotional and really pulled at my heartstrings. I had so many tears with this part of the story.
A major revelation happens. I mean a huge one. I kinda wondered if this guy had anything to do with anything that happened to Cami, and I was right! He did. I was really, really hoping it wasn't true. Then another, even more shocking secret opened up. This left me a teary eyed mess as well. Cami and Law were both feeling so many different emotions with this. I don't think the truly knew what to feel. It was a lot to take in.
At the Risk of Forgetting was a fantastic read from start to finish. I could not put this book down. With everything going on and happening, I had to know what happened next. I can't wait to see what happens next in Arrow Creek with these characters! I know there are some major things that I am wanting to happen so I am hoping I get to see those happen.

This was the first A.M. Wilson book I have read. I can guarantee it won't be the last. For one~ her writing is to phenomenal to miss out on and two~ I have to see where Cami and her friends journeys take them.
Cami had left her childhood home fourteen years ago. Since then she has been in Arrow Creek. That is where she became a paramedic, a busy single mom, and spends her time at home if she's not working and avoiding men and all things dating. She has a best friend Kiersten who has been trying to change that.
Lawrence aka Law was Cami’s childhood best friend. They were inseparable and made promises for the future. They thought they'd be together forever. One day, they both will never forget, changes the direction of their futures forever.
“All of a millisecond passed before I got my first look into the fourteen-years-older face of my childhood love, Lawrence Briggs. Or as I’d always called him—Law.”
“Fourteen years ago, you disappeared into the night. Without a trace. Nobody knew where you’d went….who was so important you’d throw everything we shared away. You dropped out of school and left town without so much as a note in my mailbox as to where you went. Do you know what that did to me?”
As great as it was for Cami to see Law again she knew when he found out the truth he'd never speak to her again. She couldn't regret her choices, because it would mean regretting her daughter. She knew she had to walk away and not dream about what-if’s. Cami had so much loss in her life and didn't know if her heart could handle walking away from Law again.
So, this book was not really my thing. I'm always a fan of second chance story lines but this one, not so much. It lacked connections from the reader to the characters and it lacked a lot of great plot. Not to mention it lacked in the department of great hero.
Law was a terrible character to include in this story. He was literally a dick throughout the whole story up until the last 3%. Yes, you read that right, 3%. His bi-polar tendencies and irrationality was just not attractive to me as a reader. He was actually a very huge turn off for me while reading. I actually liked the story more when he was off brooding and pouting. But...that's just me.
Where was the character growth? The development? These characters remained the same throughout the entirety of the book. Not to mention there was just way too much back and forth (between Law and Cami) for me to even have five minutes to enjoy this story. I needed something from the author to connect me to these characters and she just didn't give it to me.
So, if you want whiplash, eye rolls, and short, choppy sentences that are inconsistent then this book is for you!
Cami had a morning from hell and then it got worse when she went to the coffee shop and bumped into Law the person she had been in love with since a young age and hadn't seen in years when she made a mistake and walked away from him and that killed everything that they could have had together. Law had always loved Cami but he made a mistake and she just disappeared and he couldn't find her and now years later he sees her in the coffee shop and life has he knows it will be changed forever. Cami and Law had a connection and chemistry that stood the test of time but it was not all straight sailing for them. Omg I loved this book so much it was amazing and I couldn't turn the page's fast enough to see what would happen next and it was so addictive. There are twists and turns in this book that makes you feel so many emotions and there is also loss, pain, hope, betrayal, forgiveness and a second chance and I can't wait to read the next book in this series. A M Wilson is a brilliant author and writer and I definitely recommend you read this book and you will not be disappointed. I Voluntarily Reviewed an ARC Copy of this book.
This book was amazing! I love A.M.Wilson's books, but she's taken things to a whole new level with this book. I'm totally blown away! I had so many emotions while reading. I cried, I laughed and got so worked up with the characters, I was totally lost in the storyline. I couldn't stop reading till I got to the very last page..
Cami moved away pregnant at very young age. She started a new life and put everything into raising her daughter. Leaving everything and everyone behind..
14 years have gone by...
When in town, she runs headlong into her childhood best friend Lawrence. Law was the love of her life and it crushed her leaving him behind. She never thought in a million years she would ever see him again...
So much time has past and so many secrets. Can Cami finally be with her one true love? Will he understand why she had to leave him all them years ago?
I read this twice, and could happily read over and over again. It was so good!
I absolutely loved this book. I didn't want to put it down, which says a lot for me... I am very picky with what I read. And if I don't want to put the book down, that has to mean something. With that thought, yes.... Law was a cruel person to keep.treating Cami the way he did. BUT. . I feel he had reason to. You could tell he was torn from the very first meeting in the coffee shop. I cried so many times reading this book. And I feel like Cami was a strong woman also. Especially since she left when she was pregnant at 16, and started a life all on her own. I cannot wait to read the following books in this series, to find out what happens to Nate, Rhett, and Kiertyn. Amazing book, with so many realistic obstacles and occurences.
I got some series whiplash with Cami and Law's story. I enjoyed the journey I was on. Their story will keep you turning the pages. It's frustrating, sad, there is some laughter and steam. Law did frustrate me a lot. His wishy/washy way's annoyed the hell out of me. At least they finally sorted everything out and got that H.E.A. Great writing and I will definitely read more of this author's stories.......
I really enjoyed this story. whilst it has some dark themes like Allison's other books its not as dark a read a the others. nobody has the ability to make me see relate and imagine characters as quick as Allison does. I enjoyed Cami's and Law story a lot. I mean Law is no Sin but he is awesome none the less
