A Vampire's Tale

The best laid plans…

Marisa Clements was never satisfied writing the ‘gossip column’ in the local paper and she quit her job to follow her dream of writing fiction. Floundering in an unforgiving industry, she wrote about vampires, a popular subject she considered fascinating but as real as unicorns, to pay the rent.

Corgan was tired of human misconceptions about vampires and ‘living’ as a vampire. He planned to tell Marisa his story and end his existence. It was no coincidence Corgan selected Marisa to write his story. With the ability to see the future, he knew she would be a major part of it. He knew if they met, she would help him die, but in doing so, she’d be doomed to the same fate. Once they met, their futures would be irrevocably intertwined.

Corgan began to care for Marisa and finally revealed the truth to her. He admitted his quest to atone for his past sins had put her in grave danger from a nest of revenge-seeking vampires. Corgan must claim her for her own protection. But claiming her is not enough, he must ask for help from his wizard friends and his maker in order to destroy his enemy or Marisa will never be safe.

Marisa is a writer. When she sits down to fantasise her latest vampire protagonist the image in her head is vivid. She has a name and a description. Next this she knows he appears in her house. But what if the vampire she thought she dreamed up is actually real. Marisa is thrown into a world of fantasy and it’s more than she could’ve imagined.

A Vampire’s Tale by Maya Tyler

Sitting before her computer typing by candlelight one night an author thinks of her next vampire hero only to have him materialize from the darkness. A skeptic and unbeliever at first she is soon writing Corgan’s biography as he passes it on to her. Corgan fears for Marissa having seen a future for her he could not abide and hopes that by being nearby fate can be thwarted. Romance between Corgan and Marissa is a given but how the two will change her dire future requires a few wizard’s, Corgan’s vampire maker and a whole lot of planning, strength and cunning.

I believe this is a story that will appeal to Young and New Adult readers who like books filled with fantasy, romance and action. I felt that there could have been a bit more description of some scenes but that all in all the story was well written and plotted and would like to thank the author for the ARC she provided. This is my honest review.

Have you ever wondered if Fate played a bigger part in your life than you were aware of?

Marissa, a writer unable to get out of this writing funk, has a character come to mind one night... only to have him appear in front of her. Not only was he in her mind, he has been a part of her life journey unbeknownst to her.

A tale of surprises, love, the paranormal, the power of true love's connection and the danger that protecting your loved one can bring.

An overall cute story, once you get into the premise. It felt a bit rushed in the beginning and I wish we saw more of Marissa before she met her mysterious muse (or was it the other way around?). Either way, their story was a sweet one. Definitely high on the romance and HEA factor, but with surprises around every corner to keep you on your toes. 4 stars!

Full disclosure, I was provided an advanced copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.

An action packed paranormal romance

Marisa Clements is not your average romance novelist. An introvert by choice, she is rarely seen outside of her house; her only companion being her laptop and her vampire romance novels. With a nonexistent love life, she relies on her vivid imagination as fuel for her craft. Being a skeptic writing about the paranormal doesn’t make the task easier, but it at least pays the bills. Enter Corgan Halton, the “fictional” lead in her newest vampire yarn. Dark, dashing, tortured, passionate….and standing in Marisa’s apartment. But how can this be? Vampires aren’t real, right?
Corgan’s appearance in Marisa’s apartment wasn’t by chance. He is aware of her vocation and many other aspects of her life. Corgan is tired of the world’s misconceptions of vampires and wants to set the record straight before ending his existence on Earth. By having Marisa tell his tale, Corgan can do just that, but this also places Marisa in a danger that she cannot even begin to fathom. Corgan’s attempts to protect Marisa from harm will require assistance from the wizards and his maker as Marisa finds herself immersed in writing her own story.

As a rule, I am not a big fan of romance novels, basically because I read more than my share of them in high school. I noticed a pattern, a basic formula, and I got to the point where I could read a chapter or two and tell you how the whole sordid ordeal was going to shake out. There was always the spoiled rich aristocratic virgin (a must have), an “enter rogue of some sort here”, an arranged marriage, or kidnap or other forced interactions with said rogue, with the result being her captor capturing her heart, blah blah blah. It truly was enough to send me screaming for the horror genre hills after a few years.

With that being said, I was a bit reluctant to give “A Vampire’s Tale” a try, assuming that I would fall right back into the cookie cutter romance mold and be thoroughly bored.
I was pleasantly surprised.

As I read through, it became more apparent that, “A Vampire’s Tale” was less about the “romance” and more about Corgan’s life and his mission to tell his story to this exceptional human. More of a paranormal or urban action fantasy the story moved quickly; so quickly in fact that I devoured this book in less than a day. The romance was there, but did not resemble the mold that I had come to abhor in years past. Even the intimate scenes were done in such a way that was tasteful and didn’t have me fanning myself and thinking that I accidentally missed an X on the cover.

So, much as Corgan made Marisa believe that true vampires do exist, Maya Tyler has managed to show this jaded romance skeptic that there is still such a thing as a sweet love story. Four well deserved stars. If Ms. Tyler’s other stories are anything like “A Vampire’s Tale” I may become a repeat reader.

A writer writing a book on a Vampire....wasn't too sure what to expect but was pleasantly surprised. The story flowed and was insightful to a topic that has been a recent it and I enjoyed that element of it.

The book moves swiftly through the story and at times felt a little rushed and would have liked to have know a little more about the muse and her watcher pre their paths entwining but I enjoyed the premises of the book. The characters were well descript and plentiful. The romance was steady and not too much or too mushy. The plot worked well and was imaginative.

The story of the vampire/human relationship was well thought out and detailed without being farcical.

This book was a stand alone and I enjoyed reading it on behalf of 2 girls who love books blog in return for an honest review.

A great plot, good character interaction, and plenty of action. Steady paced and will keep you interested. I feel the story could use more description and more emotional involvement.

So, ‘A Vampire’s Tale’ the description alone in the beginning set an alarm ringing in my head, those who remember ‘Interview with the Vampire’ a bicentennial vampire who was eager to tell his past to a biographer. Corgan Halton also an ancient vampire wants his story to be told by Marisa Clements who is a struggling writer. Corgan can see the future and fears for Marisa life who he has grown to care for. Something else reminds me of another story of like Marisa, she is able to shut Corgan out of her head which no one else had the ability to do before. I heard of something like this before, I got my finger on it but will not push.

I personally know the struggles of not wanting to give to much away but also tell the reader just enough so they will be interested but it doesn't always come out, per-say how we may wanted it to. So it took a lot of thought before reading the book and let me say, the description was entirely accurate but at the same time was not. It was though in its self an original story you will see in there as you read. Though description I feel discourages a reader from taking a chance if you are familiar with the classics and the new vampire story's. You will see a familiar rendering, but this reader took a chance....

Other than that it’s a action story with just enough romance that’s also filled with inventive imagination writing filled with fulfillment of mysterious events. Maya Tyler vampire book has at least ventured away from stupid original blood sucking sex and kept it a little humor. That I can enjoy a fresher perspective on are favorite supernatural creatures of the night. But this is sadly for me where it ends and starts to become another cliche and all to familiar sounding writers choice, Corgan swore to protect Marissa from harm, from the other evil vampires, another all to familiar plot choice.

Anyway, it’s not that long to get through but besides the familiarities and if you can get your mind past it, its a easy read.  It’s just not the book for me. I like to read something with fresh ideas, and it showed that it had potential but what ruins it for me is the time and again, age old story not told or spun much different. Like re-reading the same book(s) but different author for umpteenth time. For those who aren’t bothered reading with that in mind, see what Corgan past was like and where his future will take you. If you are fan of Twilight by Stephanie Meyer or The House of Night by P.C Cast and Kristin Cast you may enjoy Vampire's Tales. It's a chance I recommend if your fan of these series or anything similar as I mentioned above.

Let me start by telling you that Vampire's Tale is a stand alone. Therefore, all of you that dislike series or cliffhangers, don't worry and enjoy the ride.
This novel is a paranormal romance unlike any other I have read before. I must confess I was a little worried about the writer-vampire relationship.
Probably because I thought the romance will be a little cheesy and not too much action or plot development into it, but I am glad I was wrong. The
story ended up being a sweet and heartwarming romance mixed with a good enough dose of action and mystery.

Our heroine Marisa was quite likable and easy to relate to. After all, we have all being in that spot where your job isn't the one of your dreams. It frustrate us and
makes us wish for more. Well, our girl certainly got her more. I have to say the story was so well told that it made me picture almost every scene on my mind. It
felt real, which made it believable. That is a rare trait these days and for that I am grateful. I kind of wish the story hadn't been as fast paced, probably just my opinion
. Honestly, the pace of the plot development was good but I wish there was a bonus, something extra hidden between the climax and the ending because
I truly didn't want it to end.

Now, our hero. Corgan Halton is and isn't what I was expecting him to be. Yes, he is handsome and has some typical vampire traits. Nevertheless, I loved how the author presents his view
of the human misconceptions regarding his own kind. He was presented as someonw rational, intelligent, and sensitive. To some point, he
was even vulnerable and that is a real treasure. Not many authors present you a hero with vulnerabilities and make him still seem as strong and admirable. Probably that
was my favorite part of Corgan. I don't agree with his plans, most of the time, but I believe he has his heart in the right place.

This book is quite a specimen because it's worth isn't just in the romance development but in the stories behind our hero and heorine. I highly recommend this novel to those searching for something much fulfilling, interesting and enchanting than your typical romance.

Marisa Clements is a fiction writer and loves to write about vampires but of course she knows they are not real until she meets a real (or dead/undead) live vampire that is, Corgan Halton. Marisa grew tired of her mundane life so she gave up her job to follow her dreams of becoming a fiction writer and hopes that one day it will pay the bills.

Corgan is tired of living and has made a date with the sun. He has lived a very long time as he is probably hundreds of years old. He is tired of the same old mundane life. But before he goes he wants to put his story out there for others to read so that they will know the truth; that vampires are real and let the world know that what they know about vampires is not all true and let them in on all their little secrets. He has chosen Marisa as the right person for the job.

After spending time together with Corgan telling Marisa his life story and how he became a vampire Corgan and Marisa start to have feelings for each other and it is not long before the sparks start to fly. The sparks start flying pretty quickly but who can blame Marisa with such a gorgeous man as Corgan standing in front of her.

Corgan has a little baggage that he brings along to the party. There is a vampire out there that wants to destroy Corgan for what he did to his family of vampires a few years back. This vampire wants to make Corgan pay for what he did all those years ago and has been fighting Corgan for many years. Now this vampire is after Marisa he figures if he can get his hands on her he can punish Corgan. Corgan has no intentions of letting this vampire or anyone else get his hands on Marisa he will fight to the death to save her.

I have truly enjoyed reading Corgan and Marisa’s story. I loved all the new twist that the author created for the way vampires live and the magic things they are capable of doing. A Vampire’s Tale puts a whole new twist on vampires. I would recommend A Vampire’s Tale to anyone who loves reading about vampires.

A Vampire’s Tale by Maya Tyler

I read many different genres of books but without a doubt one of my favourites is paranormal. Give me vampires, shifters and fae any day over a rock star or mafia boss.
A Vampire’s Tale is a unique type of romance. It is essentially a slow burn for most of the story, a deep and progressive tale of love between our intrepid heroine Marisa and the enigmatic vampire Corgan.
For me this book was reminiscent of Interview with a Vampire, a tiny smidge of Misery (you’ll get the reference once you read it), a little bit Twilight mixed with a whole lot of originality, romance and drama, with the intimate scenes being softer and more fade to black than vampire books often portray.

‘“I should’ve stayed away, but I couldn’t resist you. My first vision of you occurred about five years before I approached you at the library.”
“And disappeared before I could see you.”
“That was the plan. I only wanted to be close to you for a moment, I never intended on anything else.”’

It is very well written, both in the characterisation of Marisa and Dee and the different paranormal aspects, it felt fresh and different from any vampire book I’ve read, however there just seemed to be something missing from the story. It was interesting and the main heroine Marisa was intelligent, witty and engaging, but for me, the hero Corgan fell a little flat. Yes, he was mysterious, beautiful inside and out and facing his past brought Marisa into his life but his character seemed a little wooden to me rather than aloof and endearing. I wanted him to be more demonstrative in his emotions and gradually he learns to do this with Marisa’s help. This is my first time reading Maya’s work and from reading this one I would certainly read another one of her books.

Corgan Halton is very handsome, very old and very powerful. He is a vampire who feels it is time to end his existence but first wants to tell his tale. He chooses a struggling writer, Marisa Clements, as the one to write his story. Corgan can see into the future although it is not clear. There are two things he does know, she is the best. one to write his story but if she does, she will be in great danger. Marisa is unaware of how he has been manipulating her life and she also unaware of the potential for danger. Marisa currently writes a gossip column but hating that she was trying to write a book about vampires. All she knows is how great this story would be for her career. There is a connection between them both physically and mentally.

This is an amazing contemporary paranormal romance with danger and suspense woven into it to make it even more enjoyable. The characters are well crafted and full of personality, so much so, that they seem to pop off the page. Within the first two chapters, I was hooked and wanted more. The storyline weaves together, danger, magic, action, suspense and of course romance, into an emotional rollercoaster full of surprising twists and unexpected turns that keep going right to the end. The thing I enjoyed most was the verbal and mind interaction between the two main characters. I really wanted a happy ending for them in spite of the constant obstacles placed in their way. If you like paranormal romances chalked full of action and suspense then give this book a read.

Good intentions sometimes lead to horrific mistakes, intertwining paths of fate.

Following her passion for writing, Marisa Clements sacrifices a steady paycheck and benefits, to submerge in the world of make-believe and fiction. At least it paid the rent…barely.

Desperate for the truth to be revealed and to end his miserable existence and suffering, Corgan Halton exposes his true nature to Marisa, coercing her to write about the facts of vampires and demolish any misconceptions. Knowing she was fated to be in his future, he expects her to aid him in discovering eternal peace, even though it might lead to her own death.

But the best intentions led to other choices, paths that Corgan would soon discover after caring for Marisa. Emotions guide one’s decisions and when a group of rogue vampires put them both in harm's way, Corgan decides to put her safety first, even as far as obtaining the assistance of wizards and his maker, to keep her safe. Therefore changing his priorities and putting life before death.

Maya Tyler has shown us a new truth in “A Vampire’s Tale” that loneliness can destroy even the strongest predators but love can also save them.

This was a fun and refreshing read and I give it a 4-star for making me fall in love with Marisa and Corgan, wishing and hoping their love would conquer all.

This is a standalone ( really wish it wasn't ) so if you're looking for one this is definitely one you will want to read. This paranormal romance is definitely one that I have never read like it before, I wasn't sure how it was going to go but I was really impressed with so much in it from humour, sweetness, romance, determination, loyalty, protection and so much more. The characters were absolutely brilliant and you do start wondering more about their history too. Marisa is doing a journalist job but isn't happy there but not sure if she is actually brave enough to do what she really wants........ which is to become a writer full time. Corgan Halton isn't what you expect him to be, obviously handsome also with the usual vampire traits but he also has so much more which makes him even more loveable. The story is so well written that it makes you actually picture the scenes as if you are actually there as well as feel the emotions to their situations, this is truly an exceptionally brilliant read and one I will be recommending. I received this from the author and voluntarily leave my honest unbiased review with pleasure.

“A Vampire’s Tale” is not about the typical Hollywood vampire with which everyone is familiar. Corgan Halton sets the reader straight in telling his life’s story. Corgan is a well-written, full-bodied character who is brilliantly described in this tale. He has a lot of depth and grows even more as the story progresses. Marisa Clements is artistic and a wordsmith, the perfect biographer for Corgan. She can be hard-headed and tangled up with folk-tales about vampires, but she is loyal to Corgan. It is interesting to see how the “magicals” all interact in order to achieve a common goal when the wizards help to protect Marisa at Corgan’s bidding. The world building is excellent as we get to know Corgan’s lair, Marisa’s home, and Waldor’s abode. Another vampire, Dee, adds darkness as well as humor to this enlightening story of good and evil. An unusual story, a must read for vampire lovers everywhere!

As I began to read this book, I found myself identifying closely with the character of Marisa. Why? For a few reasons. I too originally set out to work in journalism and have a degree in the area. However, I too became somewhat dissatisfied with it before I even graduated. I happen to love reading (and writing) vampire romance. Last of all, I am not a big people person either.
The way Marisa seems to summon Corgan out of thin air was a bit strange. But that's somewhat explained later. Also, the flashes of his memories were sometimes confusing but very intriguing and I can only say I wish the author had dove deeper into them. One thing I was wondering about that wasn't really explained was why she could shut Corgan out of her head. Otherwise I found it an intriguing book.

Disclaimer: I received an e-copy from the author in exchange for an honest review, positive or not.

I rather enjoyed this book. It's a different take on your usual vampire romance novel, and I like that it was a book-within-a-book at some points. The various characters were interesting, especially the group introduced toward the back half (don't want to give too much away), and the background information provided for the main characters was very intriguing.

I dropped a star due to some scenes, including dialogue, sounding stilted and awkward, making it a little difficult to enjoy as I had the rest of the book, but all in all, a very wonderful read that should do well to please those interested in the paranormal romance genre.

If you love reading about vampires, then you will fall in love with this story. Marisa falls in to finding out that what she thought was something she wrote can be alive. What do you do when you find out that vampires are real? Maybe the story that Marisa has been writing was base of the memories of Corgan. This was a wonderful twist of vampires and mystery. Find that one you fall hard for but what happens when you write the end? Highly recommend this book

I really enjoyed this story even though the vampire lore used wasn't my favorite, but even with that I was committed enough to binge read it.
Having him search out an author to tell his story was great though, I enjoyed that and getting to know each other and the side characters drew me in enough to be interested in their story, which I will likely pick up at some point.
Keep up the good work Maya

Not your typical vampire story. I had difficulty getting through the first part of the book, but once Corgan and Marisa established their relationship, it got much easier to read!
There is plenty of everything for every type of reader: if you enjoy the love story, the epic battles, or the combination, there is something for you!
No sparkly vampires in this book!
I am looking forward to reading the next installment in the series.

This book was decent. I loved how badass Marissa got at the end. I kind of wish she would have kept some of the humor from the beginning, though. I liked the back and forth banter with Marissa and Corgan. It seemed kind of rushed for everything that happened. Overall, it was a short, cute read with a small battle. Good for a novella length, though!

Overall a very good story. I really liked the premise of the book and the world the author created. The love between the main characters was very quick to start and not very believable. Saying that i still enjoyed the story and would read this author again for sure. Definitely an author to watch.

A Vampire's Tale is the first book in The Magicals Series. I enjoyed this paranormal romance between human Marisa Clements and vampire Corgan Halton. The story flowed nicely and was well written. The characters were well developed and it was enjoyable to have Marisa start to believe in vampires. The romance was sweet and nicely done.

A Vampire’s Tale by Maya Tyler is about Marisa writing a book about the life of Corgan and falling in love.
