Julie Green was NOT having a midlife crisis. Nor was she running across the country away from all of her life’s mistakes. She was simply starting her life over in a small town where no one knew her or her past. That had been the plan anyway. When a case of mistaken identity catapults her into the public eye, Julie has to decide if she wants to be a movie star’s doppelganger with all the perks of wealth and glamor that comes with fame, or if she preferred a quiet life with that devilishly handsome widower who she might just be falling for. Doppelganger is a sweet romance filled with humor and heart. It is part of the Later-In-Life series set in the small town of Bucksville, New Hampshire. Other books in this series include Must Love Coffee and Taking Stock. Each book can be read in any order.

I received this ARC from Red Coat Publishing and the authors in exchange for an honest review.
A story about a woman in her early forties, trying to find herself; this was really cute and refreshing. I am not quite in my forties yet, but I appreciated and welcomed a story that centred around a character that wasn’t fresh out of high school or college and wasn’t some super special snowflake that figures out her true path after three chapters. If I had had the time, I would have read the entire book in one sitting.
The main character was real, relatable and just stubborn enough to keep the reader’s attention, wondering if she will learn from her mistakes, overcome the obstacles she herself created in order to find what really makes her happy. I noticed that even thought there were quite a few secondary characters, they all stayed discretely in the background. They were not any less real, it just gave the impression that this story really was all about the main character and it worked very well.
The plot was straight forward with many little twists and turns that kept my interest at its highest and had me very annoyed whenever I was forced to put the book down. They all worked well, yet were completely unexpected and had me mumble in surprise quite a few times.
The writing was fresh, crisp, easy flowing. The main character had a lot of spunk and sarcasm that was maintained well throughout the story, which is difficult to do. Many times I have started a book that began with a funny and sarcastic narrator that slowly and consistently became more annoying as the story progresses. Such was not the case with Doppelganger, which had the sarcasm and spunk spaced perfectly the story.
Overall, I very much enjoyed the story and was sad to see it come to an end. There was one little thing; however, that was confusing. The time progression had me constantly wondering how many hours/days/weeks had passed since the last scene, which was slightly distracting. Other than that, it was a wonderful contemporary story and I would recommend it.
Doppelganger by Danielle Bannister. This was a very enjoyable read. It was refreshing and different. Julie Green was NOT having a midlife crisis. Her move across the country from sunny LA to the unsuspecting town of Bucksville, New Hampshire, was NOT about her being up to her eyeballs in fake people and even faker tits. It was NOT about hating her job as a temp and most definitely did NOT have anything to do with her ex-boyfriend or his wife getting pregnant with kid number three. No, this move was going to be her chance for a ‘do over.’ A quiet life in a quiet town. Or, at least, that was the plan. A case of mistaken identity thrusts her into the public eye, tossing her into in a world of flashbulbs and shadows. Not the ideal situation to meet her potential Mr. Right, but her newest temporary gig was unlike any she'd ever held. The chance of a lifetime… Will it get to be too much, forcing her to cut and runor will she find out that love stories aren't just for the silver screen? I liked Julie's character. I loved it when julie was asked to pretend to be Morgan. Didn't know if she would pull it off. I loved Scott's character. Wasnt sure about bernard. Lots of action. This is my favourite book from Danielle. 5*.
I am so glad I won(during a blind date book bid) to read, the story was very unique and I couldn't wait to dive into it.
Julie Green basically runs away from home, maybe I should mention that she is past her thirties in age, when she learns that her boyfriend of three years, his wife is pregnant and he is not going to leaver her (his wife) any time soon now. what does Julie do, Julie gets in car and drives till she runs out of money.
Julie ends up in a small town, where they mistake her for a celebrity, and suddenly that celebrity is calling Julie and wanting her to pretend to be her for a small fee in exchange, what could go wrong???
The twist that the book takes I really didn't see coming, but fit perfectly in the story. This is not my first read by this author and wont be my last every time I read her books I laugh my pants off.
Super cute story about a girl who is lost in her ways and finds herself in quite the predicament. Jules is a girl who just likes to wander and has never found her place. After leaving her boyfriend and traveling across the country she finds herself in a town that is so opposite of where she has been living. Jules runs into her doppelgänger and is thrown for a loop at what plays out next. I will leave it at that so I don't spoil the book for you. I assure you that you will fall in love with these characters...even Tripod.
Cute story. I think we've all had a moment where you you want to pack up and move somewhere where no one knows you. Well, Jules did just that, but has been mistaken for a movie star.
I loved this book. The characters were well developed. The plot was interesting and unexpected. There were heart-touching moments, as well as moments where I was laughing to myself. Definitely a must read.
I really enjoyed this after 40 romance book. Sometimes in life you just fumble asking until you find the love of your life, even when you aren't looking.
I have been reading books by Danielle Bannister for the last few years. The first book I read was Pulled. It was also the first book I cried over in public. On a plane. I still remember that day. Anyway...I have loved all of her books ever since. The stories are all very unique. She can go from hilarious like her The ABC's of Dee novel to her last book Enigma which was a darker and emotional read. And now we have a lighter and funny read in Doppelgänger.
Julie needed to start over. So she packed up what she could in a rented SUV and left the fake ness and smog of Los Angeles behind. She didn't know exactly where she was going but it needed to be far away. And when she landed in a small town in New Hampshire, it felt right. She didn't have any job prospects. No friends in town. And from the trip to town, it didn't look like she has any prospects that way either. She got some odd looks. But she was new in town so maybe they were scared of the "new chick" in town. That's what she thought until she saw the row of magazines. Nope...they thought she was someone else. A very famous someone else. And she was about to land the ultimate temp job because of it. It's time to put on her shades and pretend to be a star. A star named Morgan Malone.
Julie had no idea that during her first week of her new life that she would be becoming somebody else, meeting a man that she could fall for, and might just be a cat person. She first meets Scott in unique fashion and from then they seem to run into each other everywhere. Julie hasn't felt anything towards a man since meeting her ex boyfriend three years ago but there was something about Scott that made her feel different. Which she found weird since he was out of her league. She thought she was too much of a mess to even fathom something with an unattainable man. And how would she even go there? She was playing a role and didn't want him getting hurt in the process. Will she find love and still keep her secret? Or will she run like she has done in the past?
This story is not just about finding love. It's more about Julie finding herself. She is forty two and wants to find a place to call home. As a child she moved around the country as a Navy Brat, and since she left college she has stayed in one town but changes apartments more than anyone I have ever known. She is a temp so it's the same way with her job. Her only constant is her friendship with Macy. The story is also about Morgan Malone. She has her reasons for hiring Julie. Then of course there is Scott and Julie. There is something there. They both have their baggage. Are they ready to help the other carry it?
I thought the storyline was very unique, fun, and sweet. It is a lighter read with a serious element. You would have to read it to know what the hell I am talking about. Lol. I loved the characters. I thought it was awesome that Julie and Scott are both in their forties. Julie is witty, sassy, and a bit crazy which I love. Scott is an all around hottie and sweetie in scrubs. Together, they are funny, flirty, and have some issues to work out. Then there is Macy. She is a kickass protective friend. Morgan is well...Morgan. A movie star hiding behind herself. Oh...and Bernard! He is Morgan's bodyguard that helps Julie. He is a big teddy bear. There is also her agent. She is something else. They are all together one crazy fun little group.
Overall...it's a unique and fun ride! Danielle kicked ass with this one. I was hooked in from beginning to end. I laughed, cringed, and even teared up a bit. I hope to see some of these characters again.
P.S I love Tripod.
Quotes:
“Oh, yeah, I’m thrilled, just what I an introvert wants—to be mistaken for a famous person.”
“If you expect me to do the chores too while I’m here, you are hired the wrong chick, buddy,” I said massaging my foot.
This is my first read by Danielle Bannister, but it certainly won't be my last. Who hasn't been so fed up with life that they wanted to just load up and move where no one knows you? Welcome to Doppleganger, a fun little case of mistaken identity. A light, enjoyable fun little read! I'm looking forward to more from Ms. Bannister!
I read Enigma by Danielle Bannister and it is one of my favorite reads so when I saw Doppelganger was coming out I really wanted to read it. Doppelganger is lighthearted fun read. There are a few parts that touch on some heavy issues but overall it's an upbeat read.
Julie (Jules) has had a enough and leaves L.A. She's at a crossing point in her life. I loved her. She is down to earth and super funny. She ends up in a small town in New Hampshire. This small town should give her the quiet she needs but instead she is mistaken for movie star, Morgan Malone. Morgan has had surgery and now looks like Jules and the small town Jules ends up in is also the place Morgan has a home.
Jules meets Scott. The way they meet is kind of funny. I don't usually highlight parts of the book but I did with this book. I highlighted some of the conversation Jules first has with Scott because it had me laughing out loud. Scott is nice guy. He's a pediatric nurse which is my book makes him swoon worthy.
Morgan's bodyguard, Bernard sweeps in and causes havoc on Jules life. Morgan is sick and hires Jules to pretend to be her of a while. Jules agrees to do. I loved that part because it like nothing I have ever read before. I kept wondering and worrying if Scott and Jules would be able to pull of a relationship with all the craziness going on.
I loved this book. Danielle is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. It was so lighthearted and fun, and such a contrast to Enigma. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the same author could write dark, deep and broody as well as light-hearted, fun and romantic.
The characters are well developed and interact well with each other, as the build upon a rapport that they have to work for. There is no insta-love or Happily Ever Afters take for granted from page one. The storyline moves along at just the right pace, never giving away things too soon, or dragging along so slow that I was bored.
A delightfully original story, I loved getting lost is this fun little world and experiencing how really bad choices can sometimes lead us to eventually the really right places.
