Diana is running for reelection, and soon discovers that there are no rules in post-apocalyptic politics. The citizens of the Alliance become deeply embroiled by the bitter contest, a ruthless challenger seeking to divide and conquer the people of the Lone Star Nation.
While the brutal campaign is waged, Bishop becomes immersed in fighting a mysterious crime wave that is sweeping across the territory. His efforts soon uncover treachery, that when exposed, pushes the Alliance to the brink of civil war.
Joe Nobody (pen name for the author who wishes to keep his identity confidential) has provided systems, consulting and training for the U.S. Army, Department of Homeland Security, Office of Naval Research, United States Border Patrol as well as several private firms and government agencies which cannot be disclosed. He is currently active in this area and for the security of his family and ongoing business, wishes to remain anonymous.
He has over 30 years of competitive shooting experience, including IPSC, NRA, and other related organizations. He has been a firearms instructor and consultant for over 30 years and holds the rights to a United States Patent for a firearms modification.
Joe initially became involved in helping private citizens "prepare" at the request of his students and clients. A conscientious instructor, he would always inquire as to why they wanted to learn certain skills or techniques and often the response was to prepare for more than just simple home invasion or self-defense. If you ask Joe what his greatest attribute is, he will tell you he is a "problem solver" and uses his formal education in Systems Engineering to this end.
"As the economy worsens, world tensions rise, and the modern media propagates bad news faster than ever before, more and more people want to prepare. I wrote HOLDING because it allows me to reach more of the good folks who are concerned about their security. I want them to sleep better at night knowing they have a plan of defense should the 'Event' ever occur."
Back to the Joe Nobody we all know and love with this one. Things heat up once again in the Texas Alliance as events spiral out of control during election season. Reminiscent of recent times here in the real world, Texas is divided among those in the rural areas and those in the urban cities. Dianna Brown's opponent, the narcissistic Cyrus Young, incites the people with his inflammatory rhetoric (not much different from leftists post-election) and does everything in his power to take control, including by excessive force.
Although a bit predictable as far as the plot goes, and JN returning to his irksome habit of having Bishop turn non-violent at the most inopportune times, it was still a pretty exciting and intense book. Reminds me a lot of the earlier Holding Their Own books. Other than that, it was consistently on par with what you'd come to expect from the series.
A lot of fantasy. Could it happen? Yes!! But would it? Only time will tell. This is a pessimistic view of humankind. Would the big cities survive a world of this kind? Lots to think about. I think I would prefer to live in the country!!
Love the series. Hate it that this is the last book in the series. Of course, I'd love to know how the characters and the tensions played out. A very well written series, Joe Nobody!
