Mark Lowery is far too funny - Jonathan Meres, author of THE WORLD OF NORM
Roman endures a royal visit and a school fashion show - in a jumper knitted by his Grandma . . .
Grandma has come to stay for the royal visit by Princess Lucy to launch her new badger charity, 'Badges for Badgers'. Which would be fine, if she hadn't knitted Roman the crummiest jumper (AKA "crumper") on earth that he's forced to wear to school. His whole class is in a fundraising frenzy, led by fame-crazy Rosie Taylor who is convinced that organising a charity fashion show is bound to win her favour with the princess. And in a bid of fierce cruelty she has sponsored Roman to wear his crumper ALL WEEK, even after Gamble tries to flush it down the toilet.
When the jumper causes a swan attack and a biker to swerve off the road, can Roman keep his whole life from unravelling? A new side-splitting story in the Roman Garstang Disaster series.
Mark Lowery is the author of seven books for children and young adults, including "Charlie and Me - 421 Miles From Home" and the Roman Garstang Adventures.
Both of his first two books - "Socks Are Not Enough" and "Pants Are Everything" - were shortlisted for the Roald Dahl Funny Prize. "Socks Are Not Enough" was longlisted for the Branford Boase Award, and also won the Leeds Book of The Year Award and the Calderdale Book of the Year Award. "The Jam Doughnut That Ruined My Life" was shortlisted for the Children's Book Award.
He is a primary school teacher and lives near Cambridge with his young family.
My six year old daughter and I have been reading this book together and have found it to be absolutely hilarious. Such a great story and written very well. We can’t wait to read another another Roman Garstang Disaster
In another week of turbulent events in Roman's life, we learn of how his school class is set to possibly have some of them meet a princess whilst his nan has knitted him a monstrous wooly jumper.
Now, his nan loves the royal family and can't wait to see the princess meet Roman in his jumper she knitted.
Off course, with his best mate and troublemaker sidekick Gamble, this won't end well at all and bit by bit the crumper jumper comes to a very unruly end.
As usual the antics are entertaining and funny but I do have to say I preferred the past two books to this one as I found the events more unbelievable than this book's but of course the series is still continuing strong.
Roman and his classmates raise money for a badger rescue to meet a princess and Roman has to wear his grandma’s hideous knitted sweater for a week even after it gets dunked in a dirty waterway, shoved into a giant doughnut, infested by wasps, flushed down a toilet, attacked by badgers, etc.
As usual, Rosie is there to make Roman’s life as difficult as possible, Vanya is there to provide friendship and help, and Darren Gamble tries to be helpful but in a reckless, criminal sort of way.
Another classic from Mark Lowery. Our favourite part was Gamble in the canal and the swan incident! We've read every book in the series, fantastic for kids of all ages. Please write more!
This was thoroughly enjoyed by C. (9) and L. (6). They liked the main character and found all his odd friends to be very amusing. They liked his family too. The book goes a long at a good pace which keeps the readers attention. We are now on the look out for the other books that Mark Lowery.
