Melody Jones is a California girl living in Arizona. From an early age her love for reading was fostered by her mother and grandmother who are avid readers. In middle school, it was common to find Melody and friends devouring, then trading, their mothers library of Danielle Steel novels. Melody hopes to build a range of books devoted to smart girls - both book smart and street smart.
When not writing, Melody enjoys life with her husband and two girls, reading, traveling and crafting.
Distorted by Melody Jones a true reading five-star read. This is the story of Lucy Meadows who started life as a regular high school girl, liked to party and have fun, she wasn’t the prettiest or most popular girl in high school but she didn’t do badly. Until one fateful night at a party distorted the view she has of herself for the rest of her life. One event that makes her hide from the sorrow and deceit she feels, despite the outer pofessional shell she shows the world, she doesn’t see herself as that girl in the smart business suit doing a good job, but a broken girl who no one cares about and no one would want to love. When her phycologist sets her a challenge, Lucy doesn’t think she will ever be able to do it, she doesn’t think she is brave enough to manage, but after one surprisingly good day at work she surprises herself by making a call that will change everything, it may just make her change her distorted view. A handsome stranger enters Lucy’s life, the timing seems off, but she is enjoying the excitement and overwhelming emotions she is feeling for the first time in years. His first case back is an odd one, but he knows deep down he is on to something and that his special skills will come in handy, He is made lead detective and sets about trying to solve the case. Melody Jones has made this such a believable story, she deals with mental health issues in a caring and compassionate manner, there is no brushing it under the rug, its honest and frank. Most of all this story is one that you can’t put down and can’t help hoping everyone gets their happy ever afters no matter how unlikely they are.
Distorted by Melody Jones is a standalone novel. This is my first novel by this author.
Lucy Meadows was a high school student who liked to party and have a good time with friends until one night an incident happens that distorts her view on the world.
Years later, she is seeing a therapist Andrea who she has been seeing for two years. Lucy works as a junior associate with Investment Banking Division in the greater Los Angeles area. She doesn't go out and she doesn't let people get close to her afraid they will betray her again.
When Andrea suggest that she do a dominant/submissive relationship without the sex, Lucy contemplates it, wanting to get her life back on track.
Keegan is an FBI agent who has returned back to California to work on a case. Incidentally the case involves Lucy. Though he isn't suppose to have contact with her, he does and he know he can't let go. What does this mean for not only his job but for Lucy?
This novel really captured my attention. I was alittle confused on how the two sides would get together. With Lucy wanting to learn to trust and thinking of having submissive/dominant relationship and with Keegan who works for the FBI but also delves into BDSM to help women overcome their insecurities. I wasn't sure how the two storylines would possibility crossover well, just seemed but once they did, it fit the story really well.
I really related to Lucy. The way she views herself is the way I view myself sometimes. Though I haven't any traumatic experiences that caused it. Just happened while in high school and stuck.
“So what am I supposed to do? Tell me how to trust again, trust others enough to let them get close to me. How?” I yell, my arms flailing in frustration and despair. “I’m not worth anyone’s effort,”
This a story that you won't want to put down, its fast paced, has great writing and one I would recommend.
I love DISTORTED! A full five stars for this amazing standalone novel by Melody Jones. This is the first book I have read by her and she completely drew me in with her brilliant writing. DISTORTED came alive very quickly and I was hooked. I couldn’t put it down. The intrigue, the twists and turns, and the charming characters kept me absorbed in the story. Reality sets in when you realize one event can change your whole world upside down.
Lucy Meadows is a highly successful investment banker. To the outside world she appears to have the perfect life. When Lucy was in high school she had a very outgoing personality, lots of friends and she enjoyed partying. Then one night a horrific tragedy happened to her at a party. It changed Lucy from a carefree teen to very confused, withdrawn and full of uncertainty and doubt. After all these years, she chooses to show the professional, self-assured Lucy to the world, but underneath she can’t shake how broken she really is. Afraid to trust anyone, she decides to see a therapist hoping to break through all the pain and scars left from the tragic event. The therapist suggests an unusual dominant-submissive treatment (without sex) to try and rebuild her self-confidence.
Keegan – WOW! A hot FBI agent that is leading a double life. He has been assigned to protect Lucy, but to remain undercover and not to have any contact with Lucy. To make things more interesting, he decides to take on the roll as her dominant. The attraction is inevitable and powerful. Will he be able to keep their relationship professional as he falls for her and tries to keep her safe?
This is one romantic mystery that you don’t want to miss. Great job Melody! One-click this terrific book today for a very enjoyable read!
Lucy is still reeling from the trauma of being kidnapped for three weeks and the more insidious offenses of bad parenting. She copes mostly by keeping others at bay and holding herself back at work out of fear of her own success. Her therapist recommends an alternative form of exposure therapy, right at a time when someone begins planting fearful reminders of her kidnapping at work.
Keegan is an FBI agent who goes undercover to protect his mark. This is his chance to combine his hobby of dominance with his labor of love. But can he do it without getting too close?
The book is a fast paced read with a great back story to each character. The author blessedly does not waste your time with filler like so many other romances, so you find yourself wanting to keep reading! The sexy scenes are imaginative and steamy while the suspense of finding out who the stalker is will keep you guessing.
Distorted is the debut novel from Melody Jones. It is a good romantic suspense, with action, intrigue and a bit of a mystery. Lucy Meadows is a twenty-five year old investment banker. She works hard and is meticulous at her job and in her personal presentation. From all appearances she has a good life. But in actual fact she is broken; shattered by a past event so traumatic that it has left her a shell of the girl she used to be- her perspective in regards to herself is so distorted that she no longer recognises herself. The once outgoing and confident young woman is now a virtual recluse. So wrapped up in what happened to her in the past, that she isn’t really experiencing life in the present. She has built such a strong protective armour around herself, that it’s virtually impenetrable. Her very small circles of friends are kept at arm’s length. Lucy feels much safer alone. Lucy has been seeing a psychologist to help her to readjust to life and enable her to cope with all the emotional effects that have plagued her life ever since. Her psychologist suggests a new type of therapy/treatment that she feels would help Lucy immensely. It will be quite challenging and Lucy really isn’t sure if she is ready but finally relents and accepts the challenge. Keegan Caldwell is a Special Agent with the FBI, his latest assignment has bought him back to California, his home state. He is a specialist in his field and this latest case will test his mettle, as well as his skills. It is quite a complex situation that will require utmost attention to detail; he can’t afford any distraction from the task at hand. The case involves Kidnapping, murder-for-hire, fraud and financial crimes. The potential victim is completely unaware that her life is in peril. He can’t warn her to the danger yet, as that may jeopardise the situation. He and his team must walk a very fine line in order to solve the case. One day, Lucy and Keegan’s worlds collide- setting them on a path that neither expected. Their mutual attraction is electric and awakens something long dormant inside of Lucy. With his specialist training Keegan is determined to break through her walls and help her to overcome her distorted view of the world. Strange things begin to happen to Lucy, both at home and at work. At first she thinks she may be imagining things, but as the incidents begin to happen more frequently- Lucy becomes quite frightened, questioning her sanity as her life begins to unravel around her. Will Keegan be able to keep her safe? Will she learn to trust again? Can Keegan finally break down her barriers and help her overcome her distorted image of herself? What happens when she discovers his secret? Will she accept him or will it be the final straw that pushes her over the edge? Who is behind all the incidents meant to destabilise her, and why? Will Lucy find a way to leave her past behind and embrace the future? This is a really polished debut novel. It was really well written, has a great storyline and is a real ‘page turner’. Ms. Jones touched on some sensitive topics with great candour, but this was done in an informative, respectful and sincere way. The story may have been a little slow in the beginning, but as the story progressed the pace improved greatly. The Characters were really wonderful- Keegan was a real hunk, passionate, kind and very considerate. I just wanted to wrap Lucy up in a great big hug- my heart broke for her and all she had to endure, and all the betrayal she went through. She is much stronger than she gives herself credit for. A true survivor. The author built the sexual tension through the story really well; but I felt a little frustrated for the characters because they (and us) had to wait right till the end of the story before they finally get to explore their desire. Also, the story has a domination/submission element to it- that is supposed to be one of the stories standout selling points- but I felt that this aspect was not fully explored, and what elements that are there were almost skimmed over, not in-depth enough or utilised to their full potential. It’s because of these factors that the book just missed being a five star read, for me. The story is a quick, easy read- is told from a duel POV and has a HEA. I really did enjoy the story, and I will definitely be reading more of Ms. Jones’ work.

This is my first read by Melody Jones. Melody lives in Arizona with her husband and two daughters. When she is not writing she is spending time with them, reading, crafting and traveling. Her love of reading was fostered by her mother and grandmother from an early age. Her hope is to develop a set of books devoted to smart girls both smart and street smart. You will love Lucy and Keagan. Their story is a page turner that will have you turning page after page. You will have a need to find out what will happen next! I highly suggest this story as I know that you will love this story as much as I have.
In Distorted by Melody Jones we first meet Lucy as a young high school girl at a party with friends and being approached by a handsome boy who wants to spend time with her. Fast forward 7 years or so and we find that something happened that fateful day that changed Lucy from a young woman with a great personality and the world in the palm of her hand to a lonely, reclusive twenty something. Lucy’s world now centers on her work as an investment banker, a job she didn’t want but is now comfortable, and home. While she has a very small circle of friends and very little contact with her family Lucy has a distorted image of herself plus she feels unwanted and unloved, because of her past she doesn’t feel worthy of love and being around people feels like everyone is pitying her. She pretty much feels like a failure. In an effort to help Lucy’s self-image, her therapist recommends sessions with someone where Lucy would “submit” herself. Lucy wants to become stronger so she agrees eventually and goes to see someone who specializes in the BDSM lifestyle. She meets her “master” and after one session starts to feel a change come over her. What Lucy is unaware of is that her “master” is, in reality Keegan, a special agent with the FBI that has been sent to run surveillance on her due to a threat from someone linked to her past experience. While trying to hide his identity, he rescues Lucy from a car accident and from that point on can’t seem to stay away from her. As Lucy becomes closer to Keegan the threat to her life becomes more intense, for all intents and purposes she is being stalked by her past with “presents” being left for her at both home and work, terrifying Lucy and making her question her own sanity. Plus she still doesn’t know that Keegan is undercover. While they eventually find out who is behind these attacks on Lucy and why, we have to wonder, Will Lucy survive Keegan’s deception or will she break? Will she prove, after everything else, that she is a survivor? This was a really, really good book! I wish it was longer though, it held my interest from the beginning and I will be recommending it as well as looking for other books by this author.
Distorted: A Tale of Modern Deception By: Melody Jones 5 out of 5 stars
The story Distorted: A Tale of Modern Deception by Melody Jones is a contemporary romance. Lucy Meadows is a hard-working investment banker. She, however, is hiding a lot underneath that tailored suit she wears to work. She is a broken shell of herself and doesn’t seem to recognize her own reflection in the mirror. Acting on a challenge from her psychologist, Lucy sets out to find herself again after an incident that changed her life. Then she meets a handsome stranger. Now her life is filled with excitement and fear as she tries to open her heart to love and make peace with her past. Will she come through with her heart intact?
Keegan Caldwell has accepted a position in California for the FBI in Financial Crimes. He is assigned to watch over Lucy and discover who is threatening her life. Will Keegan be able to keep Lucy alive and help her find herself again?
This is an amazing story. I love the characters of Lucy and Keegan. Lucy, although has a real issue with self-esteem, does decide to push forward with her life and even get into situations that normally make her feel very uncomfortable. After what she has been through I find it wonderful that she can work and with help holds her own. Keegan is what anyone would love in a guy. He is handsome and knows how to complement. This story is not only about the relationship that grows between Lucy and Keegan but also on how Keegan keeps Lucy safe. There are reasons that she needs protecting and Keegan is bound and determined to make sure she stays safe. I love the writing style and the way the story goes from the present to flashbacks of the past so that you have a complete picture of all events leading up to the present day. Different emotions come into play when reading, anger, sadness come to mind, however, I also found hope to be strong as well.
This is a story that you can spend the afternoon reading and will have you wishing it never ends. There are adult situations and some scenes describe disturbing events. I would recommend for those 18 years or older.
5 star review Distorted is a standalone novel by Melody Jones. I have not read anything by this author before and I have to say this book definitely will not be the last! I was completely hooked on this book and read it fairly quickly. It was really well written and had a great pace to it so my interest was kept the whole way through. I loved the twists in the story and I think this is what made it into a page turner! The action starts from the very first page and doesn’t stop until the very end! The story is about Lucy who is a hard-working investment banker. On the surface it seems that she has everything but underneath her perfect suit is a broken shell of a girl who is hiding from sorrow and deceit. A girl whose view of herself is so distorted that she doesn’t even recognise herself. After accepting a challenge from her therapist Lucy sets out to defeat her fears, find herself again and move forward from the incident that changed her life all those years ago. Keegan has recently returned to his home state of California after accepting a position in the Financial Crimes unit of the FBI. Tasked as the main detective to an unusual case, he uses his specialised knowledge in psychology and domination to keep Lucy close while working to discover who is threatening her life. I thought this book was brilliant. I loved the characters, especially Keegan! OMG I wouldn’t mind if he turned up to protect me!! My heart just went out for Lucy – she was such a strong person especially after what happened to her when she was younger. She tried her very best whilst battling self-esteem issues to maintain a normal life. I can’t imagine what it must be like to go through something so traumatic and not have your parents there to support you. I loved that Keegan was there to support Lucy in more ways than one during another trying time in her life! If you are looking for a story with romance, a sexy dominant FBI agent and two characters with some intense sexual chemistry then this is the book for you! It also has some great twist and few emotional moments thrown in! I thoroughly enjoyed it and can’t wait to read more by this author!
Distorted by Melody Jones follows Lucy and Keegan in this romance with a slight mystery twist. There's plot twists that will leave you thinking 'well that's not something I saw coming,' but in a good way.
Lucy is an investment banker who went through something traumatic at a young age. She was an outgoing girl in high school but after the incident she became sort of an introvert, shy and wary of everyone. Her past has brought a great deal of fear to her future. She is scared of herself and allowing something like that to happen again. And while she and her therapist are trying to get her to breakthrough and realize she's lost herself and how to fix it, she is challenged to step outside of her comfort zone. Will she take that challenge?
Keegan is an FBI agent who we find is out on Lucy's case. He has his a little hobby helping women feel wanted, appreciated and beautiful. But wait, what is his hobby? He befriends Lucy much to the opposition of his boss, as he is on her case, and it blossoms in to more. Neither of them were expecting this sort of relationship to come about, but it did. But will it last?
Lucy is being targeted and harassed again and Keegan is supposed to keep her safe and protected. Keegan wants Lucy to feel loved and appreciated and to realize that what happened was not her fault.
Their story is an easy ready. There are hundreds of questions that keep you turning until the last page. Who is doing this that knows what happened? Why would she be targeted again? Will Keegan tell her the truth? Will Lucy be able to love herself again? Will Lucy trust Keegan? Can Keegan be my boyfriend, oh no? Okay. Ha ha.
Don't lose who you are even after something happens and you forget for a while. Always find your way back. Everyone has issues, hopefully you find someone that can help pull you though and love yourself.
Wow what an emotional book, I was hooked from page 1! Distorted by Melody Jones is a hard book about tragic events, deception, betrayal, distorted self-views and eventually love. In high school Lucy was the outgoing girl that had tons of friends and loved to have a good time, until one night at a party changes her entire life. Years have gone by and Lucy still is afraid to go out, she is afraid to make connections with other people because she is scared they will betray her as well and she still hates the image she sees in the mirror every day. Her therapist suggests an unusual therapy using the dominant/submissive relationship minus the sex. Keagan is an FBI agent assigned to Lucy’s case but is supposed to remain hidden, he is not supposed to make contact with her at all but he volunteers himself for the dominant position since he has real life experiences with this lifestyle. But once he meets her, he knows that he is about to disobey every order, he will not stay away from her. When the truth comes to light and all of the new betrayals piles on top of past hurts, Lucy must decide to trust Keagan or live a life of loneliness. Will he be able to convince her that everything he said was real? Ok I loved this book, I knew that Keagan keeping secrets was a bad idea but I fully understood his position with his job but everything that Lucy went through her whole life made me sad and wanting to protect her. This book jumps into action right away and leaves you on the edge of your seat waiting to find out how it will all end. I highly suggest that you go get this book now and start reading… You may want a few tissues close by.
A 4.5 star read for Distorted by Melody Jones. This is the first time that I am reading anything by this author and I can guarantee it will not be the last. Lucy Meadows works as an investment banker. An incident happened during her senior year in high school that gave her an entirely different outlook and perspective on life. She went from outgoing and personable to lacking confidence and self esteem. She is seeing a therapist with the hope to get her life back. When her therapist gives her a card with a place for her to go, she is a little leery but willing to give it a chance. Things just seem very off to her lately but she can't put her finger on exactly what it is. Keegan Caldwell is an Special Agent with the FBI. Not only is he an agent, he also a trained “Dom”, but not in the way that you'd think. He is supposed to be keeping an eye on Lucy, to keep her safe, but not ever getting a face to face meeting. That all changes one night when Lucy has an accident while driving home from a “therapy session”. Keegan sees the accident and has to make sure that Lucy is alright. The attraction is so strong between these two. When they start “running” into each other, they begin to spend more time together. Lucy is finally starting to feel comfortable around people and that is all because of Keegan. Is he the devil in disguise or is he her knight in shining armor? This book had a little bit of everything that I personally look for in a book. Romance, mystery, drama and of course hot steamy sex scenes. I promise you will not be disappointed with this read!!!
Title: Distorted: A Tale of Modern Deception Author:Melody James
Distorted: A Tale of Modern Deception was a great 5 star read.
We start out reliving an incident from Lucy’s past that was terrifying and changed her life.
We go to present day with Lucy working as an investment banker. There are still things that trigger bad memories for her, especially when items start showing up in her desk drawer and she’s not sure how they got there. There are other mysterious things that start to happen as well.
Keegan is an FBI agent that has been assigned to follow Lucy. When an accident occurs while tailing her his conscious won’t let him leave without helping her. He also fails to listen to his boss and goes to the hospital to be there for her. I felt so bad for her when she was pleading with him to come with her. He is compromising his job but doesn’t care. Can he keep her safe?
Something about Lucy makes me want to protect her.
There is so much more to this great story. There are some shocking secrets revealed that added a great element to the story. The deception goes really deep and kept Lucy in a state of fear. Keegan is determined to show Lucy how real his feelings are. Melody James does a great job of pulling you in with her writing. During the read Lucy has flashbacks from the past. I really enjoyed the strength that Lucy had even after what she went through and than to not have her parents there for support, so sad. Let’s say I very much dislike her father. I really enjoyed the epilogue, I wouldn’t mind seeing more from these two. Thank you for a great read Melody, I look forward to reading more from you. 1-click and get started today.
Distorted: A tale of Modern Deception by Melody Jones is a faced paced story about a broken young woman named Lucy and FBI agent Keegan. When Lucy was a teenager she was tricked and deceived in a horrible way and the result of that betrayal has weighed heavily on Lucy ever since. After years of therapy with little progress Lucy’s therapist recommends a different type of therapy that is meant to help Lucy trust others and let the past go…the only problem Lucy has with this recommendation is it takes place at a BDSM club. Gathering what little strength she has she agrees to give this new therapy a shot and she soon meets Master. Keegan is a FBI agent who is assigned to watch a young woman who has a hire to kill contract on her head but doesn't know it….he also has a hobby of hanging out at BDSM clubs. As soon as Lucy and Master aka Keegan meet sparks fly but he must keep his identity a secret. I really liked this book. It was very fast paced and action packed. I had a hard time putting it down and was hooked from page one. I loved Keegan!! He was such a sweetheart and a good guy. The author does an amazing job keeping the readers on their toes and trying to guess who the bad guys are. I recommend readers be 18 and older due to adult content and language. The story is told in first person through both Lucy’s and Keegan’s point of view. I give this book 5 stars.
Loved this book. I could not get enough. I wish the book would have gone on and on. Keegan is just amazing. He had the kindest heart. He had a job to do and he was not sure how he was going to pull it off and he kept going against all of his beliefs but in the end he did what was right in his heart. Keegan works for the FBI and he is good at his job and has seen a lot of different situations over the years but this assignment made his thinking change and he became a different person someone he did not even recognize. Truly a great book boyfriend. Lucy lives in a world of her own she goes to work and goes home. She has very few friends and personally she likes it that way. Lucy experienced something in her teens that no teen should ever have to experience. She went into a shell of her own self and likes it there. She has a job that she is good at and has a partner that she believes is her friend, Beau. Beau seems charming and willing to help her with accounts but sometimes Beau seems to be a different person and she is not so sure about him. She keeps him at an arms distance as a friend and a coworker and that is it. I am so in love with this book. I know there were some incidents that happened to Lucy that I think were horrible but I think Keegan and his big heart make the story. He puts himself out there and is truly an incredible person.
Distorted: A Tale of Modern Deception by Melody Jones was SO good! This is the first book from Melody Jones and it was amazing! I look forward to reading more of her work! Distorted was a great piece, the plot and characters were very well developed. It was a 5 star read!

Keegan has recently moved back home to California after accepting a job in the Financial Crimes unit in the FBI. Now that he's main detective he is given an unlikely case, he's suppose to use his previous knowledge in psychology to keep Lucy close while trying to figure out who is threatening her.
My heart broke for Lucy, she endured so much, but only came out stronger in the end. Keegan was a great stand up guy. He protected Lucy with everything he had, and that only made me love him more. If you love a sexy alpha then this is a book for you!
One night out with friends turned Lucy’s life upside down. Her parents not being supportive and no longer in contact with her old friends have left her a broken shell. Her self worth is non existent. Work, home and a few friends is her life.
Even seeing a therapist has only managed to keep Lucy at a basic functioning level. Lucy’s therapist asks her to give alternative therapy, submitting to another person a go.

Keegan enters her life but is he what he seems. Beau her work friend and colleague is sending up red flags. Who is telling her the truth. Will she be able to return to a normal life once she knows the whole truth.
I really enjoyed this story a truly felt for Lucy. Melody has done a great job with this story.
This was the first book I've read by this author and the book is very good. I had to email her and ask her how she got it formatted so nicely with an Amazon file because not only is it a good book, it's very pretty to look at as well.
Towards the beginning of the book, the author cuts away from a scene and I'm like, BUT WHAT HAPPENED? I just needed to be patient. It's revealed as the book moves along, as it should. Giving you more information about Lucy's past as more details about the future come into view.
As far as romantic suspense goes, this was a good one. I had a feeling I knew who the bad guy was after a few chapters, but the author had a few tricks up her sleeve and still surprised me
So, I had never read a book this size before, but I was very pleasantly surprised!! Keegan and Lucy's story is well written and flows nicely. I enjoyed the intricate aspects of the plot and was surprised that the author was able to add so much suspense and drama and emotion into this amount of pages! I couldn't put it down!!! Very sexy, suspenseful, and entertaining. I cannot wait to read more stories by Melody Jones!!! I'm definitely a fan now!!
Great storyline. Kept you right there all the time. Mystery and romance all in one! Loved the cover Shane is an awesome personality, perfect for the cover! Highly recommend this book!
Distorted is the first book released by Melody Jones and I really enjoyed it. I felt a connection with Lucy with her lack of confidence and self-esteem.
Lucy has been through quite a bit in her life. As a Senior in High School she and some friends go to a party and ends up being kidnapped and held for ransom and eventually freed. Flash forward seven years to current day and Lucy is still trying to learn how to live a normal life. She has been working with her current therapist Andrea for about two years now and has made progress, but still has a long way to go. Andrea suggests that Lucy tries alternative therapy to help her overcome her issues, especially connecting with new people.
Keegan is an FBI agent originally from Southern California who has just moved back home in the last year after working on the East Coast. He still isn’t unpacked and doesn’t have much of a life outside of work. He is currently working on a case that involves kidnapping, murder for hire and financial crimes. He is in charge of keeping the victim who is unaware under surveillance.
Lucy calls the number to try the alternative therapy and gets her first appointment set up. She is nervous and has no expectations of this therapy actually working. The therapist comes in and is very demanding and expects to be addressed as Master. He reassures her that she is safe with him and that they will work together to improve her life and give her the quality of life she deserves.
There were a few twists I didn’t expect and thought she did a good job. This is a happy ending for Lucy and Keegan but the story between is worth it. I will be keeping my eye out for more books by Ms. Jones.
Lucy Meadows seems like a normal woman, but underneath the cool exterior is a frightened child who has never really overcome a tragic relationship when she was younger. This has caused her to question who she really is and has distorted her view of the world so much she does not even know herself anymore.
She has been seeing a shrink since it all happened but does not seem to be getting any better until one day her physiologist decides to issue Lucy with a challenge, which is conquer her fears to go somewhere where she can be “submissive” in a controlled environment. Lucy thinks about the task ahead and wonders if she can do this again and overcome the fear. So Lucy takes the risk and goes to a BDSM club and is partnered with her “master”, there is an instant connection and Lucy starts to believes her life is this.
Keegan is an FBI agent who has specialist skills in physiology and is assigned a case as lead agent, but when he discovers who he has to watch and that someone from their past is trying to hurt them, he questions whether he can keep them alive. He is assigned to watch Lucy as she has been threatened from someone from her past but Keegan has kept his identity secret so far until one night Lucy is involved in a car crash and Keegan is there to rescue her.
As the book progresses you get to see into the minds of both characters and enjoy the tension of the relationship.
This is the first book I have read from this author and will definitely look at reading more in the future.
Distorted was a fun read with plenty of intrigue, and the chemistry between Lucy and Keegan is hot. I liked that Lucy, despite past events, a non-functioning family and all her perceived faults, was still making something of her life, even if took every ounce of energy to do so. She had so much courage. I did wonder what it said about me that the idea of her alternative therapy sounded intriguing and was wondering where I might enrol myself ;-) The story is fast paced, and deliciously entertaining.
I really loved this book. I got into it from the beginning and it never let go. I really enjoyed the interactions with the characters. Their story is unique and I loved that. Some parts I expected and others I didn't.
Distorted is a romantic thriller that maintains the suspense throughout the novel.
I felt sympathy for the protagonist, Lucy, as she tried to return her life to normal after she experienced a traumatic kidnaping as a teenager. It was unsettling when a stalker brought back to her those feeling of stark terror. The book moved along at a fast clip and the author keep it interesting with a very pleasing writing style.
Interestingly, the subtitle "A tale of Modern Deception" could refer to the deception of the antagonist as well as that of the protagonist's heroic boyfriend.
I really enjoyed this book. I didn't think I was going to when I got about 3 - 4 chapters in but I quickly changed my mind. Lucy Meadows has been thru so much in her short life. She was at a party in the same area as Mission Valley High School which are their rivals. She was having a great time with her friends and ended up talking to a guy named Grayson. She was the smart girl in the crowd. She kept checking on her friends and telling them to drink some water in between drinks. Somehow Lucy's drink was spiked and she was abducted from the party. She was locked in a basement somewhere for 2 weeks. She lived on Mac Made Easy and EnsureLife. She was rescued early one morning by the FBI.
She was homeschooled for the remainder of her senior year in high school. Lucy was very depressed and scared. Who wouldn't be considering what she endured. She wasn't close with her parents or her older brother. She gained a few pounds and she didn't feel like herself anymore.
A few years later, she got a job at a banking company. Her new best friend is Beau. He's gorgeous and friendly. Lucy and Beau have like a brother / sister relationship. Lucy's only other friend is Quinn.
All of a sudden one day at work Mac Made Easy appeared in her desk drawer. Another day, a bottle of EnsureLife. Lucy started to freak out a bit.
The FBI is now watching Lucy because the newest case involves kidnapping, murder-for-hire and financial crimes. One of the agents, Keegan Caldwell is assigned to watch Lucy. Only problem is as he watches her he can't help but befriend her and then really starts to fall for her.
What happens when the guy you have been spending lots of time walks in and arrests someone who is out to get you. Especially when you didn't even know he was an FBI agent? You get mad! He tries to explain everything to her but she just doesn't want to here it and says she needs time.
When Lucy finds out everything about Keegan was all a set up she gets mad and avoids his calls while he goes out of his mind.
I don't want to give away to much of the story but it was a great read.
Distorted is a suspenseful, emotionally charged page turner.
After being a kidnapping victim while in high school, and denied the support of her family, Lucy is left to wallow in depression and self-doubt. And now, a few years later, the nightmare has begun again. At least this time, she has someone on her side—even though she doesn’t know it yet. The characters were realistic and easily relatable, and the story engrossing. Definitely well worth the read.
