Ever seen an allosaurus in pointe shoes and a tutu? A raptor swing-dancing, or pterodactyls tap-dancing? You'll see it all in this enlightening and dizzyingly hilarious imagining of a prehistoric "So You Think You Can Dance" competition.
This is the newest edition in the Dino-Sports series. Dino-Dancing is a cute rhyming book that tells the tale of a prehistoric dance competition reminding the reader of "Dancing with the Stars". See all kinds of dancing from ballet, swing, hiphop and more. Great costumes and the opportunity to explore various kinds of music can make this a useful book for a primary music class or physical education class where students can explore different types of music as well as various types of dance. The story is told in rhyme which makes it easy to read and fun to listen to. The illustrations are amazing. Lots of colour and expression. The dinosaurs are cartoon like, so they are not scary for the little ones. A cute series for young readers, especially those that love dinosaurs. Thanks to Netgalley and Carolrhoda Books for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
We love dinosaurs in this house and love reading about dinosaurs. So when I saw this book at the library I knew I had to check out for my kiddos. "Dino-Dancing" by Lisa Wheeler and illustrations by Barry Gott is about different dinosaurs in a prehistoric "So You Think You Can Dance" competition. Have you ever seen an allosaurus in pointe shoes and a tutu or a raptor swing-dancing?
This book has so much potential to be a great book but I felt like it was lacking something through out the book. I really like though how they used the dinosaurs names as well as the actual terms for the dance movies. The illustrations by Barry Gott are amazing and detailed. My three older kiddos loved looking at the pictures and giggling at the dinosaurs doing all the moves. It's one you have to check out.
Received an ARC through NetGalley for an honest review.
Audience: Young children Illustrations: Bright and colorful Review: Told in rhyme, this book is a fun way to learn dinosaur names as well as various dance types! Kids will get a kick out of seeing the dinosaurs bust a move. Read aloud rating: 7 - With it's fun rhymes, this book lends itself to being read out loud
I had the pleasure of meeting Lisa this spring when she visited our school as a part of the Michigan Reads program. I was familiar with her work previously, all of my students LOVE her Dino series! I really like this one especially because it includes so many different varieties of dance, meaning that this book will appeal to both boys and girls. I will definitely be adding this book to my libraries! Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read this ARC!
This series of books is so much fun. I never would have guessed that it is as popular as it has become. This time they take on a dance competition. All moves are allowed, some good, some bad, and some scary. A great addition to the series, plus they give us a sneak peak at the next book in the series: Dino-Christmas.
Another great book in the dinosaurs sport series, this one is a take off on the dancing with the Stars. All dinosaurs can dance, or can they? This series is hugely popular in our elementary library and I can see it flying off the shelf as soon as I add it. Illustrations are bold and vibrant. You will be hear lots of laughter from those reading this book.
A delightful story about dinosaurs dancing. The tempo of this book is fantastic with smooth rhyming that is fun to read aloud. The bright, bold colors of the dinosaurs and their dance outfits make it a standout with young readers. I love that the names of many different dinosaurs beyond the usual T-Rex and Triceratops are used throughout the story. A great read for young school-age children!
I received a copy of this children's book through the Goodreads Giveaway program in exchange for a candid review. This was such a fun picture book! My adult partner and I read through it together and laughed out loud repeatedly, enjoying the rhyming and colourful illustrations. We especially loved the breakdancing dinosaurs! Definitely going to be sharing the book with my little nephews.
Not a fan. This is all over the place. I would recommend this to patrons who really like dinosaurs or really like dancing, but it would NOT be my first pick for either unless they were already a fan of the series or we had exhausted the other options. Also, what's going on with flopping in the Christmas business at the ending? Totally unnecessary.
Combining the proper names for dinosaurs and for dances, this book offers vocabulary development and a silly story that will delight dinosaur fans and kids who see their parents watching shows like "Dancing with the Stars."
Admittedly, there were a lot of dancing terms in this book of which I am unfamiliar only because dancing isn't my fortè. But, Lisa does a great job introducing this "new vocabulary" to the reader and the illustrator ties in the text perfectly with his illustrations.
This book about dinosaurs and a dance competition has a variety of dinosaurs involved and dance moves and rhyming jargon about dance moves. The audience becomes involved and all is chaos until the winners are announced and get ready for the next dino dance book. Very colorful and rhythmic story.
If you have a kid who is really into dinosaurs and dancing, then they will love this book. Otherwise, I think it will fall flat because of the technical dancing terms and jilted story. It has a fun surprise at the end though!
Another great addition to the Dino books by Lisa Wheeler. Young Dinosaur fans will love every step and every move as their favourites compete to be the best.
Still love this series! I’m not sure why the next one seems to be leaving the sports theme, but I will have to wait and find out when I read that book.
I expected this to be a bigger bit - Maddie loves dinosaurs and both girls take dance classes. They did like the ballet dancing Dino, but the rest wasn’t as interesting to them. I enjoyed the Easter eggs in the text, which used some lyrics from stuff that I listened to.
