Though I’m not exactly a football fan, I really enjoyed signing day. It was more than anything a book about male friendship, my favorite subject in literature. This one in particular addresses the subject of childhood friends going their own ways as they grow up. It’s a bitter sweet time period that was reflected well in this book.
I couldn’t relate to closely to the main characters of this book, as I didn’t play football. It’s also a bit short, so that’s why I only gave it four stars. Still though, I greatly enjoyed this book. It was also a clean, completely family friendly story which I appreciated. Though intended for younger readers, I’m not embarrassed to admit to liking it.

Do you have struggling/reluctant readers looking for a football books that also have a friendship plot-line as well. Do they also want solid writing? And main characters from Hawaii? That's a lot to ask from one hi-lo book, but this one has it all. A solid and engaging book about two good friends who are about to graduate high school and are exploring possible scholarship opportunities on the mainland. I'll be looking to pick up the other books in the series to add to my middle school collection.
