Draconia

What would you do if you learned that a famous national park had really been its own self-governed country all along? Follow top reporter Royce Andrew Pratt as he enters Draconia and works to unravel mysteries that are more than one thousand years old.

The revelations he uncovers shatter everything he's ever been taught. The Chivalric Order of the Twin Dragons has been working in the shadows of United States history in subtle anonymity for centuries.

The people of the Chivalric Order are a different breed. They have their own agricultural system, they shun the ways of capitalism, and they train up all men and women under military methodologies. Though on the surface they seem to be fostering combative mind-sets, the community is highly philosophical, motivated by personal sacrifice, and driven to serve the greater good.

Royce knows this is a journalistic gold mine, but he has to be careful to say and do all the right things to stay in their good graces. However, as he listens to their tales and practices their lifestyle, will he take the knowledge learned and expose them, or will be hesitant to return to his old ways?

Absolutely fabulous story. Initially I picked up the book because it was a 'local' author and I want to support local talent and experience new authors. Within a few chapters I was hooked. (There are a few editors issues with typos and mistakes of language use that can be distracting but that is mechanics. Let's talk storytelling here!!). The characters are complex and layered. They are all 'equally' important to the flow of the story! ( see what I did there 👍😉) No spoilers here but let's just say this reader was as surprised as Mr Pratt seemed to be as situations unfolded. The weaving of history, culture, politics (both as it is and as it could be- maybe, perhaps) was done in a very artful manner that allows the reader, regardless of political leanings, to enjoy the story and accept the basic premise which allows the tale to unfold.

A quick read yet I was sad to see it end. Please tell us the saga will continue and the Next book is already underway?!?!
