Incredible things happen when you give up control.
As a young wife and mom-to-be, Joni Lamb never imagined a dream and Duct tape could launch a growing television network and career as host of two programs that reach millions of viewers worldwide every day with help, hope, and wisdom. Then a simple act of surrender to God helped her use ordinary things to achieve her extraordinary dreams.
That same simple act can help you find unshakeable peace, incredible power, and confident purpose too. Surrender All contains practical know-how and Joni’s remarkable story of how giving up control to God can…
• deepen every relationship, • buoy any career, • strengthen all finances, • restore your health; • get you through great loss or failure.
Drawing upon her experiences as a wife, mother, and television personality, Joni also shares the inspiring stories of others, celebrities and everyday folk, who found fresh hope in difficult circumstances by surrendering
• the couple whose marriage was fully restored–two years after their divorce, • the mother whose faithful prayers for her drug-dealing son received an unexpected answer, • the romance novelist who surrendered her career and found a whole new level of success, • and the renowned sportscaster whose alcohol addiction nearly destroyed his life…until he chose to believe that God had greater plans for his future.
You can step confidently into your own divinely-designed destiny, Joni’s story reveals; she comes alongside to show you the way to making real the dreams of a heart willing to Surrender All.
I didn’t know who Joni Lamb was before I picked up this book. The two main reasons are because I live in Australia and I don’t have cable tv (I’m limited to free to air tv which in Australia totals to 5 channels excluding HD as I don’t have HD tv). This however does not in anyway take away from the purpose of the book.
Joni Lamb wrote to share her experience in surrendering her all to God and to invite her readers to do the same. She tells of troubles times and what has led her to surrender to the One Creator to the consequences and blessings from following in His will. She supports her story with other miraculous stories: people from different walks of life who came to surrender their all to God. These people experienced difficulties each unique from the other yet was called to the one & same God. People who became willing to commit themselves to follow God’s will whole-heartedly in all ways of life (finance, marriage, family, health, relationships, etc)
These stories touched my heart, humbled me and I’ve even shed some tears. A very encouraging book that reminds me each day we need to surrender our lives again & again. “…a surrendered life doesn’t have to be a perfect life. You just have to be willing to trust Him even when what you face is horrible. To God, that is part of the process.”
Defeat, lose, quit—these are the words that come to mind when we think of surrender. Total surrender is not easily accomplished, nor is it a natural response to becoming a follower of Christ. It is, however, possible. Jesus modeled submission perfectly for us in the garden the night before his crucifixion. We are called to follow His lead.
Surrender All begins with Joni Lamb in a garden of sorts, a neighbor’s yard. Joni, age six, pushes her friend off a swing and soon discovers that confession is indeed good for the soul. As Joni’s story moves us through her dating years, she shares her first major white flag moment. Her choice to surrender to God’s will, and not her own, led her to new horizons and this white flag became a white wedding dress.
I enjoyed reading how Joni and her husband began Daystar, their Christian television ministry. God’s hand was evident and their growth and success has been miraculous. I was encouraged by Joni’s statement, “You may feel like you’re spinning your wheels, but let me assure you that God will use every one of your life experiences in preparation for what he has for you.”
Woven throughout the book are stories of fellow Christians who overcame serious obstacles. These stories bridged the gap between Joni’s Christian upbringing and those who didn’t grow up in a Christian environment. Through struggles to overcome addictions, sexual promiscuity, and criminal activity, their ultimate surrender to Jesus Christ provides hope for everyone no matter their past or upbringing.
While reading this book I realized I needed to redefine my idea of surrender. Waving the white flag is an internationally recognized protective sign. Persons carrying a white flag are not to be fired upon by the enemy. In effect, their surrender saves their life.
Coming to Christ and surrendering all to Him works the same way. Our relationship with Him gives us His protection and saves our life eternally. Sounds like a win to me.
Sometimes it seems like it is difficult to find genuine people in the public eye. In Joni Lamb's book she talks about what she and her husband Marcus went through to bring the vision God gave them of Daystar Television Network to life. She tells of stepping out in faith and almost falling, of the trials and tribulations of the attacks of the enemy. The embarrassment of having the Dept of Revenue seize the equity of their home when they had done nothing wrong, of having to put their necks on the line over and over. The amazing thing is that she never whines or complains or says "Woe is me, look what I went through!", she just tells it like it is and it is beautiful and simple. My faith was stirred up just be reading about her testimony of what God did for her and Marcus. Oh, did I mention... that is just the introduction!
Joni has a way of telling stories that are relevant and charming that really drew me into her story. She doesn't lecture at you, she sits down with you for a cup of tea and what comes out is this intimite conversation that stirs your soul and warms your heart.
Joni shows you chapter by chapter how to surrender all areas of your life, some that you are probably already struggling to surrender and some areas that you may not have even thought of turning over to God yet.
Sometimes I struggle to get through non-fiction books, slogging through points and catch phrases and rhetoric. I didn't slog through Joni's at all. What a joy to read! Highly recommended.
Surrender All : Your Answer to Living With Peace, Power and Purpose by Jodi Lamb is a wonderful book that I found refreshing and easy to read. In the turbulent tiems we are living in, this book was a reminder that if we place our trust adn love in God and surrender every fiber of our being to our maker he will take control of our lives and work it out. The book doesn't come across as preachy. It reaches and teaches through examples, both hers and others. It came at amost appropriate time in my life and showed me that when facced with trials I can surrender them to God and feel his peace and joy in my life. I wholeheartedly recommend this book. I give it a 5 out of 5
I was very intrigued by the subject matter of this book when I first received it, because surrendering to God has been a major issue in my life, especially in the last several years, where I had to learn how to simply ‘let go and let God’, as the saying goes. Much of Surrender All is in the same vein. Until we learn to relax and trust God, to not doubt, but practise what we believe, then we will never know the true meaning of surrender.
Author Joni Lamb shares not only her own stories of surrender, but brings us other stories of surrender from people involved in the Daystar Television Network, to celebrated author Francine Rivers. Joni personally shares how she and her husband Marcus Lamb started the Daystar Television Network because they totally surrendered their lives, finances, children and even day-to-day things to God. Today, Daystar operates more than 50 television stations in America and reaches every country in the world – all because two people surrendered.
Have you ever wondered what would happen if you completely surrendered your life to God? If you need inspiration for your journey with the Lord and desire to learn how, then this book will inspire you to a closer walk with God.
Surrender All by Joni Lamb is a powerful guide to turning control of your life over to God. Lamb and her husband, Marcus, own Daystar Television and have a terrific testimony as to what God has done in their lives, after they surrendered their finances to Him. The book is filled with absolutely amazing stories about how God has completely turned around marriages, finances, health, and careers after they were surrendered to Him. Lamb includes Scripture to back up each story, and her writing style is very conversational. It's like talking about God with a trusted friend.
While reading this book it is easy to hear Joni speak. I wanted to read this after becoming a fan of "Joni Table Talk". The style she uses to write is the same as her on air personality. She has joined me in my home and the book has become a one on one personal discussion.
I really enjoyed reading this inspirational book. It's easy to read which does not take away from the message of the book which is how to surrending to God. I recommend this book to anyone who is beginning their journey to having a better relationship with God.
I received this book due to a miscommunication, but I decided to read it anyway. The book is mostly a series of personal testimonies that illustrate various types of surrender to God: surrendering your marriage, your children, your career, your health, your friendships, in daily life, in loss, and in failure. She does occasionally refer to Scripture, but usually in only general terms. While the points made in the book are in line with what the Bible teaches, I would have preferred a more frequent use of specific scripture quotes to show this.
I had one main concern about what the book said. On page 25, under "Step 2: Offer a Prayer of Surrender," Ms. Lamb writes:
"Once you realize how much you need the Lord, the next step is to ask for God's help and intervention. You can't surrender to His will until you invite the Lord to forgive your sins and to come into your heart and your life. This isn't a one-time deal. It needs to be repeated every time you face a challenge in any aspect of your life."
She then talks about praying to accept Christ as your lord and savior. Later, she also refers to coming to God in repentance for sin as offering a prayer of surrender, and I assume that's the part Ms. Lamb meant needed to be done repeatedly. My concern is that some people might think Ms. Lamb is saying you've lost your eternal salvation every time you sin instead of you're "saved" once and come in specific surrender and repentance after that.
Parts of the book are very Christ-focused. The problem with personal testimonies is that the focus can subtly slip from what God can do with a surrendered life to what man has accomplished (i.e. the praise and awe becomes focused on the person instead of God, who deserves all the credit). Some testimonies were very God-focused, but others not as much.
While there are some pretty amazing testimonies in this book, the book's main focus on experiences instead of scripture made me nervous. After all, other religions use personal experiences as proof, too. However, "Surrender All" is not a bad book despite my reservations about how Ms. Lamb chose to write it.
