This revised LifeGuide Bible Study features additional questions for starting group discussions and for meeting God in personal reflection, together with expanded leader's notes and a "Now or Later" section in each study.
Angels. There are nine level hierarchy of angels with seraphim the highest and most powerful who dwell closest to the presence of God and burn with God's holy brilliance. The seraphim are perfectly fulfilled doing nothing other than worshiping eternal God. When we worship God individually or together we are not alone, the angels worship continually before God's throne. Angels are never to be worshiped but are worshipers with us of the true and living God. Angels are personal beings who have intelligence and they have a will and they have the ability to speak. Angelic encounters are rare in the biblical narrative. We aren't to initiate contact with angels but we can be open to their presence and possibly their intervention. Usually the first thing she says when an angel appears to a startled human is "Don't be afraid". The angels are God's servants, Jesus reigns as sovereign. The ministries of the angels are changeable like the flickering of a flame or the shifting of a breeze. The angels are inferior to God but just as they serve God they are also responsible to serve us under God's direction. Jesus is the focus of our worship but we should not ignore the possibility of help from angels. In our culture demonic activity (bad angels) will be displayed in very subtle sophisticated ways. Do not have an excessive interest in or involvement with demons. Satan is not to be taken lightly and we need strong faith and spiritual maturity to face demons. Do not give Satan a foothold through disobedience or complacency. The difference between angels and the Holy Spirit is angels are primarily external while the Holy Spirit is internal. God can and has intervened in certain situations with angels helping but if he does not we have to trust in God's goodness. To judge whether spiritual experiences are actually real ones or based on falsehoods the person telling it has to have the appropriate view of Jesus Christ and look for God's truth in the scriptures.
