This humorous vignette was originally written as part of the blog tour for my book Northern Rain, published in July of 2016. This vignette is a fanciful imagining of John Thornton being dressed down by an aging but spry Elizabeth Bennet. It first appeared on Tamara Austen’s blog, My Kids Led Me Back to Pride & Prejudice.
It is republished here in celebration of the new Audiobook release of Northern Rain, narrated by Stevie Zimmerman. This same vignette can also be found on Goodreads under Creative Writing.
I offer no justification for the following frivolity, other than I wrote it purely for my own amusement. -NC
Nicole Clarkston is a book lover and a happily married mom of three. Originally from Idaho, she now lives in Oregon with her own romantic hero, three kids who are taller than she is, and one very fat dog.

Ah, but this is one inspired vignette! It's a lovely blend of North and South with Pride and Prejudice, as the elderly Mrs. Bingley and Mrs. Darcy come to call on the Thorntons in Milton. Mrs. Darcy is still irrepressible and dispenses her timely advice to Mr. Thornton. Beautiful and poignant piece that takes only 5-10 minutes to read. Just perfect despite the short length.
Wow!!! Feisty little old ladies. Man... Mrs. Bingley and Mrs. Darcy visit Mrs. Thornton. This makes Mrs. Thornton quake in her shoes. I found that humorous as most are fearful of Mrs. Thornton. LOL! Lizzy is still a pistol and she appears to have aged well. What a delightful little window of time. I loved it.
These few pages were delightful. An aging but still spry Elizabeth Darcy, acting like a Lady Catherine, in giving out her advice to John Thornton, as she determines by his mien that he has been crossed in love. Short and amusing work by a favorite author.
This short story was an adventure with Elizabeth Darcy with grey in her hair. She and Jane visit an old acquaintance and Lizzy has some very good observations and advice for her friend's son. The story is not connected to any canon of Pride and Prejudice but is a fun look at how spunky even an older version of Mrs Darcy could be.
so cute! I love the mashup. I always recommend North and South if people love Pride and Prejudice. North and South is an industrial age Pride and Prejudice. Wonderful. Look it up online to find it. It was very easy to find.
