Check out my review of this book including our recipe results on Saturday's Kitchen @ https://readrantrockandroll.com/2018/...

I was browsing through some cookbooks at my local library a few weeks ago and came across this cookbook in the new section. The cover spoke to me and I had to grab it. My family loves cookies and I'm always interested in trying some new recipes and was I ever surprised!

This cookbook has over 80 different cookie recipes. The author covers the basics, frostings, equipment, and includes helpful tips. What surprised me? There are some gluten free recipes in here too which is exactly what I needed! There's even a dog biscuit recipe for your pups. This is pretty much a 'something for everyone' cookie book.

We ended up making a handful of cookie recipes from the book. You can visit my blog at the link above to see what recipes we made and the results, but here are a few pictures:

Pistachio cookies with chocolate chips:

Flourless Peanut Butter Cookies:

Giant Funfetti Cookie Pizza:

Jude and Franklin’s Favorite Dog Biscuits:

Overall, this book is awesome! I would give it more than 5 stars if I could. It would be a great gift for anyone who likes to bake and it’s written with easy instructions, perfect for a novice baker. I’m buying this one for sure. 5*****

I received a free electronic copy of Sally's Cookie Addiction by Sally McKenney from NetGalley for my review. Beautifully written cookbook with beautiful, mouth-watering pictures. I love her Top 10 Cookie Making Tips: Chill out, Butter is better, Turn up the heat, Switch it up, Leave breathing room, Stick to the middle ground, Go with your gut, Follow the 5 minute rule, Respect the mat and Carbs rule. This would be a beautiful gift for any baker.

I love baking cookies, especially for my son who’s away at college. When we dropped him off at school that first time, I sent several different kinds with him and kept him pretty much stocked the entire year. I was horrified to learn that my cookies were such a hit that a few members of the football team were offering to trade my son a fifth of whiskey for some. He assured me he didn’t take that trade, and I decided to stick my head in the sand and believe him. Now that my son’s a senior, I can even admit it was somewhat of a compliment to my cookie baking skills that college students thought them worthy of trading their booze for.

I follow Sally’s Baking Addiction on Bloglovin’, so when she had a cookie cookbook release I thought I’d try reviewing it. I can’t say reviewing a cookbook is something I’ll repeat anytime soon, at least not with an R2R from Netgalley. For starters, you can’t download it to your Kindle app, you have to use a special app to read it, and it’s not a very user-friendly one. I persevered and figured it out well enough to not only read the cookbook but also to make a couple of the recipe’s included.

In my read through, I was impressed with the number of tips included, many of which I already use. There was also a decent section on tools she recommends using along with key ingredients. The one thing she likes to use that I don’t is the silicone liners. I have one, but I’m a parchment paper girl myself, mainly because I don’t like cleaning the silicone liners. Parchment is just so blooming easy to use then discard. There were lots of colorful pictures included which I really appreciated.

Super Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars
There was a huge variety of recipes included for all different kinds of cookies. The first one I tried was for the Super Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars. I’ve got a recipe for Chocolate Chip Cookies that my family members clamor for but they are pretty futzy to make (think browned butter etc.), so I liked the idea of a quick and easy bar recipe.

Once I gathered the ingredients, these went together pretty fast. I liked the idea of making a sling type thing out of parchment paper making it easy to lift the bars out of the pan after they’d cooled a bit. This made cutting the cookies into bars really easy, and also meant I didn’t have to get that always awkward first piece out (especially since someone borrowed my itty bitty spatula that made this task easy, and never returned it).

The bars themselves were moist and flavorful. Both my husband and my son gave them two thumbs up, as did all my son’s friends when he carried them back to school.

Espresso White Chocolate Chunk Cookies
I let my son pick the cookie he wanted me to try next. With it being the weekend before finals, he chose Espresso White Chocolate Chunk Cookies thinking the more caffeine the better. Although not quite as fast to put together as the Chocolate Chip Bars, these went together fairly easy. My one complaint was that the chunks kind of sank into the dough making for some not very pretty cookies Topping them with a few white chocolate chips was suggested which did make them look better but was tedious to do. If I make these again, I’ll just go with the white chocolate chips instead of chunks and hope they show up better.

My husband and I were only able to snag one cookie each before my son and his girlfriend whisked them away. The coffee flavor went well with the white chocolate. The kids provided the final seal of approval when they called to tell me they were a hit amongst their study group.

Final Thoughts
Overall this is a nice little cookbook with some interesting recipes included. It would be perfect for a novice cook who’s just getting started with baking or who doesn’t do it often. It’s informative, easy to follow, and nice to look at. For me it was a bit too simplified but I did enjoy reading it and even got a few ideas for my own recipes.

If the title of this book doesn’t make you want to own it, I’m not sure anything I say will either. But that’s not going to stop me!

SALLY’S COOKIE ADDICTION is 192 pages filled with amazing cookie recipes! Everyday favorites, and new, soon to be treasured favorites.

Author Sally McKenny starts this wonderful cookie experience with a lovely introduction followed by the pages, Key Ingredients, Kitchen Essentials, Sally’s Top 10 Cookie-Making Tips, How To Prevent Excess Spreading (a problem I have with my cookies, and hips!), Make-Ahead Tips and Freezing Instructions, Frosting and Icing. I find pages such as these immensely helpful, and I wish all recipe books would go the extra mile to include them. I know Ms. McKenny taught me a few things through them!

What comes next are eight chapters packed with delicious cookie recipes, and tempting color photos sure to make your mouth water, and your sweet tooth begging to be fed! Recipes like, Brown Butter Snickerdoodles, Chocolate Sugar Cookies, Jude & Franklin’s Favorite Dog Biscuits (can’t forget the pups!), Banana Almond Berry Breakfast Cookies, Ginger Pistachio Cookies, Coffee Toffee Shortbread, Rainbow Kiss Cookies, Outrageous Peanutty Caramel Thumbprints, Chocolate Pretzel Cookiewiches, Spiced Pumpkin Whoopie Pies, Espresso White Chocolate Chunk Cookies, and so many more! Many more!!!

There are so many cookie recipe books out there, and I’m sure you own several of them, just as I do. That being said, you’re going to want to add this one to your collection! I’ve yet to make any of the recipes, but I have enjoyed many recipes from Sally’s blog. I love the advice/tips Sally gives and how well she explains everything. Overall, a wonderful book any baker ought to keep on hand.

Update:

-Have made the brown butter snickerdoodles. While a little greasy (buttery) at first, they were great. Baked them for 30 seconds less
-made the crispy chocolate chip cookies. They’re perfectly crisp but then soft the next day
-made the giant m&m cookies. They’re the best. Use dark brown sugar instead of light

I love baking. And, I especially love baking cookies. They're my ace in the hole, my first go-to. I'm constantly on the lookout for new recipes to add into my repertoire. Plus, the holidays are coming up, when my need to bake goes into overdrive. All in all, this is a solid book that's chock full of cookies.

The book is divided into chapters that are mostly flavor or ingredient based including: introduction/tips, Family Favorites, All About Oats, Happy Holidays, Shortbread and Slice and Bakes Galore, The Sprinkle Chapter, Nuts About Nuts, Serious Chocolate Cravings, and Find Your Flavor.

Ultimately, this is a bit of a clunky, unorganized way to sort cookie recipes. "Find Your Flavor", "Happy Holidays" and "Family Favorites" are all pretty vague, wide categories. The rest of them make sense, but those listed are a bit disjointed from the rest.

The tone also gets a little condescending at times. There's a big push about how substitutions are usually why people's cookies don't turn out, and recipes are there for a reason. Pretty opposing to most cookbooks, which encourage creativity and adapting. There's also the use of the phrase "it's a no no". This is a cookbook that isn't specifically geared towards kids- really? No no?

After these discouraging bits, the book goes along a lot more smoothly.

There's a lot of helpful hints as you go. There's advice on how to make your cookies softer, and how to decorate better, and things like that. It's much appreciated and helpful for sure, especially for beginner or seasonal bakers.

There are a lot of recipes in this book, and also a LOT of photos. I love when a cookbook has a photo of every recipe, and this book does just that.

The recipes are written in an approachable style, with simple language and short, easy to follow steps.

There's a really wide variety of cookies here, from the super sweet, to the spicy, to even cookies that your dog will enjoy.

Some of the cookies that sound the best to me include Autumn Spice Oatmeal Cookies, Chai Tea Spice Shortbread, and Cherry Almond Coconut Macaroons.

This is a great book for cookie lovers and for the holidays. Once you get past a few speed bumps, it's easy to follow and full of new recipes to try.

I received a copy in exchange for my honest review.

I loved Sally's Candy Addiction: Tasty Truffles, Fudges Treats for Your Sweet-Tooth Fix, so was excited to flip through this one too! There's recipes for family favorites, oat cookies, holiday cookies, shortbread, with sprinkes, nuts, chocolates and more! There are photos of every recipe, which I appreciate, and they're all gorgeous and adorable! A bunch of them I'd say are creative, but I think most of these are very american, so I'd recommend this for anyone interested in that.

I was given an advanced copy of this book via Netgalley and the author.

First, I want to start by stating that I am in no way a baker! I downloaded this book with the intention of trying one or two recipes. So far, I have successfully made the giant M&M cookies, hot cocoa cookies, and the shortbread. For someone who NEVER bakes and was apprehensive about attempting to bake, this book was definitely helpful. The author's recipes were easy to follow for the cookies that I made and the end results were delicious! Thank you to the author for giving me the confidence in my baking skills to attempt some of the more advanced recipes in the book this holiday season!

I check out a lot of cookbooks from the Library, and this is my favorite so far this year. The pictures of the cookies and bars take up a whole page. And bonus, there is a picture for every single recipe. Not every cookbook does that. Big props to you and your editor for including them. I don't think there was a single recipe in here, that I would not try. All were totally doable with no weird ingredients that you have to go to a special store to pick up. If you are a regular baker, you will have most of these ingredients all ready in your pantry. I can't wait to try these out. Happy Baking Everyone!

Did I ever read this at the right time of year! I bookmarked FIVE recipes to make just for holiday giving: giant M&M cookies, soft-baked sugar cookie bars, butterscotch no-bakes for my Dad, hot cocoa cookies, and peanut butter-stuffed cookie cups. There are so many excellent recipes in here-- I added it immediately to my own Christmas wishlist because, if I don't get a copy of my own, I will have to transcribe half of my preview... and I plan to buy at least two copies to give as gifts. Happy baking!

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

I have been a follower of Sally’s Baking Addition for years and when I saw that she had a cookie cookbook, I had to see it. This book is a keeper! I have tried many of Sally’s recipes before and have loved them. This cookbook is a must, if you like cookies. If you love cookies, what are you waiting for, grab this cookbook and start baking!

Each cookie or bar in this book has an illustration with it. The recipe is on one side of the page and directly across from it, is a bright picture. There is also a short paragraph at the top of the recipe giving a short narrative of the recipe. Prep time, total time it should take to create the recipe, and the amount of desserts the recipe should make is also included in each recipe. With easy to find recipe ingredients and simple step-by-step directions, this dessert book is a gem.

I was amazed at all the great recipes inside. I like the classics: monster cookies, soft peanut butter cookies, oatmeal raisin, and chocolate chip. But the different varieties of chocolate chips cookies had me rethinking perhaps I should be revamping this classic once in a while. The Midnight Brownie cookie, the Kitchen Sink, Sugar Cookie Sparkles, Peanut Butter-Stuffed Cookie Cups, and of course, the cookie dough had me stopping in my tracks as I looked over this cookbook. I saw other recipes I would love to try, some recipes for friends and family, I knew they would love them. Just seeing the illustrations of the all the recipes, made me hungry.

In my world, this book it top-notch. I loved all the variety inside one cookbook. There were the great recipes of the classics plus a bunch that look tantalizing. The illustrations were fantastic and the book itself, put me in a happy place. I could use the index by looking up the name of the cookie or by an ingredient. It’s pretty detailed. The table of contents at the beginning of the book, breaks the cookies/bars by groups.

I highly recommend this cookbook. You should pick this up for yourself or for someone who loves cookies/bars – perhaps they will bake you something.

I have a serious cookie addiction. Is there anything better than a buttery, soft, sweet, chewy cookie to brighten up you day? Every year for the holidays I bake cookies and share them with my coworkers, friends, and family. We’re not just talking a batch or two of chocolate chip here. Last year I made 8 different kinds of cookies and more than one batch of 4 of those. Now that you understand how important cookies are to me… you might be able to guess that I am in love with this book. I have been a follower of Sally’s blog (Sallysbakingaddiction.com) for several years now and she had never steered me wrong. This book has the following chapters: Family Favorites, All About Oats, Happy Holidays, Shortbread and Slice-and-Bakes Galore, The Sprinkle Chapter, Nuts About Nuts, Serious Chocolate Cravings, and Find Your Flavor. The book contains 75 cookie recipes plus tips, tricks, and advice from Sally to make your cookies the best. The recipes range from chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin to Cranberry Spice Rugelach and Jude & Franklin’s Favorite Dog Biscuits. The recipes are easy to read and accompanied by gorgeous photos. Most of the recipes use ingredients that an accomplished home baker will keep on hand or can be found in your local grocery store. There isn’t anything too complicated about the recipes because Sally has taken all of the guess work out of making your cookies perfect by providing her tips and tricks. I am looking forward to making every cookie in this book. You can bet those Cranberry Spice Rugelach will be in my holiday cookie giveaway boxes this year!
Thank you to NetGalley and Race Point Publishing for an ARC of this book. I have voluntarily provided an honest review.

Nice little cookie book that clearly shows the love the author has for cookies.

If you love cookies and are ALWAYS on the look out for more recipes?
This book will offer you a few.

Its a nice mixture of old classics and new spins, with great pictures and well done recipes.

For me personally there was a bit too much colour in it all. What i mean by that is that i am not a sprinkle or M&M kind of person. I can't eat anything that is artificially flavoured (yup thats a REALLY nice allergy to have at current times!) i found that this book had a few too many recipes of that kind for me to go out and physically buy this book.

BUT the recipes itself are still great. And if you are someone that LOVES to bake with everything colour? This book will be exactly what you have been searching for!

It overs a nice range of different types of cookies and while i kind of wish there would be a few more cookie bars and actual shortbread in this book (since it is in the title and all!) its mostly just a "typical" cookie recipe book. Which is not a bad thing. Just a note, if you are looking for lots of recipes on those two topics this book might not have your needs covered!

All in all?
This is fantastic.
Beautiful cookies, lots of nice and easy to follow recipes that make you want to jump into your kitchen to get going with the cookie making!

*Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for providing me with a free e-copy of the book in exchange for a free and honest review!*

I received an advance copy of this from Quarto Publishing Group – Race Point Publishing through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I was quite literally salivating as I went through this book. The pictures that appear for absolutely all of the recipes were like the icing on the cake. These recipes look awesome and I can't wait to try them.

There's a good mix of traditional vs new feel good recipes featuring ingredients that seem to be so popular right now. I have never seen so many recipes with pistachios before in my life. But I'm definitely not complaining.

I'm an occasional seasonal baker. I'm not a pro but I'm also not a beginner. I appreciated the language used in this book and how straightforward it was. It literally seems to be idiot proof (I say that now but I guess only time and experimentation will tell).

Like I mentioned before, I love that Sally included pictures of every single recipe. This is so helpful since there have been so many times where I've made something and there's been no picture to compare it to and I find myself thinking, is it supposed to look like that?

Her tips are fantastic. Some I knew, others I didn't. Who would have ever thought to include a slice of bread in with your cookies to keep them moist????? Genius.

Great book. I'd purchase it for my friends and people new to baking. Can't wait to try the recipes for the holiday season.

I checked this book out from the library after spending a few weeks combing through other cookbooks for cookie and baking recipes. I thought this one might have some really interesting ideas.

I've recently made one of the recipes, the Soft Peanut Butter cookies that have Reese's Pieces in them. They definitely taste good and the recipe actually made about 4 dozen (great for the holidays), but they're more crumbly and dry than I expected them to be.

And honestly, most of the recipes in this book were ones I found recipes I liked better elsewhere or they were just really bizarre and I wasn't interested. There are chocolate chip recipes and brownie recipes and tons of others that I didn't need. I only found a handful of recipes that I was actually interested in from this, which was a little disappointing. But it does have a few good baking tips along the way, which I did appreciate. Someone finally explained why so many recipes tell you to chill the dough between making it and baking it. I was having a hard time understanding up to that point why that was so common, as when I bake I just want to do it and get them done, not make them and then wait two hours to bake them.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. This book is amazing! This book features so many different cookie recipes including your classic holiday cookie recipe. It gives pictures for each and every recipe offered which is super helpful so you know what the cookie is supposed to look like. I have definitely found a few that I will be attempting to make this holiday season as well as trying to make my traditional chocolate chip cookie even better. The directions are easy to follow and the ingredients are easy to get and anything out of the ordinary is explained. I love this book - this is now my favorite dessert book. Thank you so much for writing this book and to NetGalley for providing me a copy. I know I'll be referring back to this quite a few times.

A wonderful book about cookies weather you have been baking for years or just beginning. The beginning opens with what you need and how to start each recipe with fresh not expired dates. You also get many recipes and you get many useful tips along the way. Her royal icing recipe and the tip of how to use it form a bottle instead of a bag I found helpful. I have been making cookies for years and some of her tips, like don’t use a hot or warm cookie sheet I had to learn on my own. I also found some of her recipes that used molasses reminded me of my grandmother’s when she baked and I must say the flavor is much different. Overall a very good book and very good pictures also there is a recipe for dog treats that I thought was nice. A great book. I got this book from Netgalley.com I gave it 5 stars. I greatly enjoyed Sally McKenney's newest cookbook covering all things cookie. She has a great mix of traditional cookies (Crispy-Edged Chocolate Chip) unique (Strawberries & Cream Cookie Cup), holiday (Pecan Tassies), shortbread (Chai Tea Spice) and more (Butterscotch No-Bakes). Her recipes are easy to follow and she integrates great tips for preparing thing ahead or substitutions to make your cookies even more unique. The photography is also great. I tried the Autumn Spice Oatmeal Cookie and they were a crowd favorite. I will be excited to try her other treats as well. This is a great book to share with all of the cookie addicts in your life.

Thank you NetGalley for the copy of Sally's Cookie Addiction by Sally McKenney that I used and reviewed.
What can I say? I can't cook but I love too bake and I adored this book. It had recipes from frosting to cookies to bars and everything in between and I loved trying old favorites and new ones just for fun. The pictures were bright and colorful even on the Kindle edition and the book was even a joy to use in that format which was a surprise for me. I loved it. A great cookie book with so much more that would be a great gift or something to buy for your own use.

I got this from NetGalley to preview.

A good collection of cookies to tempt those who want to go a little bit further than the basic chocolate chip. As one who loves to bake cookies for my friends, I wanted to try several of these recipes. I noted a few of the recipes down and will be trying them in the coming months. I did appreciate her hints on chilling dough (something I do already) and to not substitute ingredients. A good book for those wanting to expand their cookie repertoire.

Due to the file I was able to access, I couldn't see the photos, so I can't speak to the quality of them.
