OMG, How To Draw Modern Florals is seriously amazing! It's like having a super-talented artist as your BFF, teaching you how to create the most stunning flower drawings. This book is an absolute game-changer for anyone who wants to learn modern floral art.
The instructions are clear, the designs are stunning, and the book is a true inspiration. If you want to unleash your creativity and create beautiful flower drawings, this book is a must-have!
Great book! Checked it out from the library, and half way through the book, I bought it! Great photos, simple instructions, and with enough practice I was able to draw something that was somewhat close to the actual drawing! That is saying a lot, as I am not a drawer at all. Love the variety of flowers that she included in the book, and also the names of them.
This book flattered me to believe myself an artist. The beautiful intricate designs of a flower were simplified for amateur and non committal sketch artist like myself. The illustrations were vivid and the steps were easy to follow. I borrowed this book from my local library but I'm so impressed with it I think I need a personal copy. I consider myself a flower enthusiast, seeking to identify the different types of flowers, and endeavouring to draw them. This book definitely encouraged me to continue in that pursuit
Highly recommended to flower people who are also non committal
This is slightly less frustrating than those how to draw books from when I was a kid where it was like:
Step 1: draw a circle. Step 2: draw 2 triangles. Step 3: draw 2 small circles inside the bigger circle Step 4: (some photo of a super detailed leopard that is in no way a logical progression from step 3)
Everything is in 4 steps and there are a few times where it's like "okay, that's a bit of a jump", but it's not totally impossible. Mine were far from good, but they at least somewhat resembled what was in the book. I didn't like the written instructions (they weren't helpful and sometimes counterproductive). I also wish that the leaves and wildflowers had some actual instructions instead of a page saying "here are some doodles of these. Your turn."
Criticisms: the written descriptions can be quite vague. The sections for "leaves" and "wildflowers" don't really have much detail at all.
What I liked about it: this book is great for beginners(because the author describes things using terms that anyone can understand and with a little practice you can absolutely nail the artwork). That being said, don't expect this to be too easy, it might still take a while to learn the techniques. Also, for more intermediate or advanced artists, don't be discouraged! This is a great way to learn a new art style and I think this book has something to offer for even seasoned artists.
This book does not teach you how to draw the typical botanical illustration such as is depicted on the cover. It shows you how to draw isolated parts such as a single leaf, or a single flower. Also, it suffers from the issue many how to draw books, suffer from which is that it shows a sequence of partially done drawings to show how but the jump between the second to last drawing and the last drawing is enormous.
Love this book! I am shocked that I was able to draw such flowers after following Alli Koch’s step by step directions! I would highly recommend purchasing a set of Micro pens in various sizes. There are directions for 19 different flowers, a variety of succulents, and greenery.
Alli is an amazing artist! This is a wonderful book for all levels. Alli breaks down each flower to simple shapes and steps and makes it easy for anyone to learn. Also the book itself is aesthetically beautiful! I have my copy on my desk or side table all the time. Can't wait for the next one.
How To Draw Modern Florals: An Introduction To The Art of Flowers, Cacti, and More. Alli Koch, Paige Tate Perfect! The whole design and layout of this book is just right to assist anybody in trying to draw flowers. I'm really happy with the results too. 5 stars
The creation of complex florals never seemed so accessible as it does with this book. I definitely recommend for someone looking to draw larger bouquets and blooms.
I originally got this book from the library but I ended up loving it so much that I bought it! It's such an amazing book and helped me improve a lot! This is one of my FAVORITE drawing books!
