Dave Stanton is the author of eight novels in the Dan Reno private eye series. They do not have to be read chronologically to be enjoyed, but for those who want to know, the order is: Stateline, Dying for the Highlife, Speed Metal Blues, Dark Ice, Hard Prejudice, The Doomsday Girl, Right Cross, and The Asylum Thread.
Born in Detroit, Michigan, in 1960, Dave Stanton moved to Northern California in 1961. He received a BA in journalism from San Jose State University in 1983. Over the years, he worked as a bartender, newspaper advertising salesman, furniture mover, debt collector, and technology salesman. He has two children, Austin and Haley, and lives with his wife, Heidi, in San Jose, California.
Stanton's eight novels all feature private investigator Dan Reno and his ex-cop buddy, Cody Gibbons.
I’ve enjoyed quite a few of the Dan Reno series of books, written by Dave Stanton, and was offered this short story as a freebie – an offer which I believe, is provided to all readers of his early novels. Dan is a decent guy at heart and a hard worker who is devoted to his job, that being as a private investigator based out of South Lake Tahoe, California. But Dan is also quick with his fists and not slow to use a gun, should the need arise.
Here, he’s contacted by parents who want to hire him to find their daughter who has gone missing. Dan is provided with only a minimal amount of information to go on, but he needs the work and therefore takes the case. From this point on it’s a pretty straightforward tale of search and rescue. One element that did surprise me is that there’s an insight here into Dan’s previous life that I hadn’t come across before, so for fans of the series this tale is worth exploring for this element alone.
It's been a while since I last read a Dan Reno story by Dave Stanton. Wrong Turn at Carson woke my interest, so now I will try to get up to date, I have a couple on my tbr mountain. Great story if you like rough private detectives and I do.
Sorry to find this book dropped from Amazon. The story is quite good and Reno and his buddy Cody are at their finest. Reno is called to investigate the murder of a young man and the kidnapping of his daughter in a small Nevada town. The characters are very unique and compelling, including the victimized wife with a multiple personality disorder. The plot is imaginative and interesting, and filled with action and suspense. Small side plots add to the overall interest of the book, as Cody's estranged daughter is introduced. The book includes an extreme level of violence, handles the descriptions well. I thought it was great!
Brilliant! Shocking! and Amazing as this investigation proceeds through the pages of this book, Mr Reno has another adventure with lots of excitement and discovery in this fast paced short story. I Loved It!!!!!!!! Get it now!
This is a good short story if you're a fan of the Dan Reno PI series. I received it as a free download from the author after reading the first book in the series.
