Karen Booth is a Midwestern girl transplanted in the South, raised on 80s music and repeated readings of Forever by Judy Blume. She writes steamy contemporary romance and women's fiction. Pregnant by the Billionaire begins Karen Booth’s The Locke Legacy series and I have to say I loved this book even though I’m not a huge fan of rich guy romances. What made me love this book is that it is a family based series and this family obviously has some big time skeletons in their closet, the family legacy is a grand New York hotel that has an interesting history and is being restored by the brothers despite their father’s protest, and to top it off it’s a one night stand that comes back to haunt the participants which anyone who reads my reviews knows I love. Ms. Booth tempers the intrigue and flawed characters with sexiness and charm making this story an outstanding romance.

When Sawyer Locke’s restoration project of The Grand Legacy hotel gets some bad press, a new PR firm is needed and finding out that Kendall Ross, a woman he had a one night stand with at a friend’s wedding weeks ago and hasn’t been able to forget works for the firm he is considering hiring, makes the decision a no brainer. What he doesn’t expect is to find her with an engagement ring on her finger and an all business vibe surrounding her.

First off let me be clear and state that Kendall is not a cheater and there is a reason for the engagement ring she is wearing. I loved the interplay between these two characters as they work together to solve Sawyer’s PR woes and fight his father who is most likely behind them. I’ll admit I’m a sucker for historic old buildings so I really got into the story of The Grand Legacy and admired Sawyer and his brother for wanting to preserve the history of the hotel and their grandfather’s legacy. It became clear early on that Kendall felt the same way about the hotel and as she began to see the many sides of Sawyer it made it easier for her to let go of the baggage she had in regards to dating “men of means.” Sawyer was not without his own relationship woes which is why despite not being able to forget his night with Kendall he also never called her after it ended. I loved watching the ever changing relationship between them and while at times I was disappointed in the behavior of them both, I could also understand them given their pasts.

Flirty and sexy with a hint of danger to make it interesting, I loved Pregnant by the Billionaire.

Karen Booth, and her Harlequin Desire titles, are fast becoming guilty pleasures of mine. ;) Her stories are always entertaining and make for easy reading. Pregnant by the Billionaire was no different.

Kendall and Sawyer spent a night getting acquainted - dancing, laughing, and eventually heating up the sheets - at a mutual acquaintance's wedding. That was six weeks ago and although neither has made contact, neither can get the other out of their head. Then they're brought face-to-face when Sawyer hires Kendall's PR firm, where Kendall's boss assigns her to his project. Will they be able to keep things professional?

These two made for a perfectly engaging couple. Kendall's fire, always giving it straight to Sawyer, was fun. He wasn't used to that so it kept him off-balance at times. She's also intelligent and fiercely independent, as well as loyal. She doesn't believe men have staying power though so tends to steer clear. Sawyer is also intelligent and tenacious in building the life and legacy he wants. His family life, his father in particular, has shown him how he doesn't want to live his life and he's worked hard at not being like his dad. As Kendall and Sawyer work together on the reopening of his hotel, the obstacles they face, both professionally and personally, show them their feelings about relationships and love might be skewed. And maybe they just hadn't found the right person. ;)

So I have to say that the trope of the pregnancy is a little tired, but it worked for the story. I wished for more time between Sawyer and Kendall, more development with Sawyer's family, too, but since this is the first book in the Locke Legacy series, I have feeling I'll get my wish even if Sawyer and Kendall aren't the focus of the story.

Pregnant by the Billionaire was an easy and engaging read, one that has me invested in Sawyer, Kendall, and the Locke family. I look forward to Sawyer's siblings' stories.

This is Book One of The Locke Legacy Series and my first read by Karen Booth.

Sawyer Locke is enraged because of bad publicity to the rebuilding plans of his Grand Legacy Hotel, a hotel he inherited from his great-grandfather and which has been shut for the past decade. It is evident from the first page itself that he and his father don't see eye to eye. He and his younger brother Noah are constantly facing opposition in their work from their father, which at only thirty-two is giving Sawyer grey hairs. Also, he can't stop himself from thinking about Kendall, his one night stand from two months ago. In the search for a good PR firm, Sawyer remembers Sloan PR, and et voila, who else but Kendall Ross is the Senior Director of Public Relations there.

Meanwhile, Kendall hasn't been able to get Sawyer out of her mind. She has little indications, it seems, in her daily life which prevent her from not thinking about him. She sees his real estate company's advertisements everywhere and is reminded of him again and again. Her mother's experience has made her wary of rich people and she dons an engagement ring just to ward off men and to remind herself that her career came first. But surprise, the same morning she wore the ring is the same morning she had a meeting with Sawyer. And he is not happy when he sees the ring! Something to do with his past.

Poor Kendall, Sawyer is full of throwing sexual innuendoes in her boss's presence, not knowing that it could get her fired. What a coincidence though! If I hadn't been reading The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, I wouldn't have really understood the American Dream reference. Ha!

I had read in a review about this story having a hint of danger, and I picked up this book on that basis too. I'm glad that I did. This story is full of gooey goodness that will warm your heart. It was good to read how they both handled the news about her pregnancy like two well-balanced adults. And in the epilogue, they already seem like an old couple. Though two things bothered me about this book. One is Wes, who is a typical pompous prat working in the same position as Kendall, trying to steal her work, giving her a bad name and yet, in the end, it seemed his character was kind of left hanging. The other is the unresolved issue with Sawyer's father, who's is the most vicious person there can be. Maybe it is revealed in the next two books, which I don't feel like reading right now.

P.S. Finally I know the difference between Mills and Boon Modern and Desire imprint. While Desire is more of a kind of contemporary romance, Modern deals with mostly caveman male protagonists. Haha! I know it sounds funny but in spite of its name being 'Modern', it has all these alpha heroes behaving like cavemen. But I believe it is slowly changing now, with the slew of new authors.

One night ... to forever? A scintillating delve into a PR nightmare as Kendall Ross heads into the job of her career ... only to find it's with her one-night stand from 6 weeks ago! Secrets, sabotage and unwanted attraction keep us entertained as we head towards a happy ending. Strong characters and a good story line that leave us wondering what's coming up next in this new series, The Locke Legacy!

Kendall Ross is up for the job of her dreams, but it hits a snag when her new client turns out to be the guy she had a one night fling with a few weeks ago. Her boss doesn't put up with fraternizing, but the attraction between them is still red hot ... what's a girl to do ... especially when she discovers their one night left a lasting treasure?

Sawyer Locke is determined to have Kendall launch the PR campaign to make this hotel a success, but his meddling father keeps interfering. Will he be able to overcome the the adversity and stay on track ... especially when he finds out there's a baby on the way?

Karen Booth's Harlequin Desire book, Pregnant By The Billionaire was a fun read. In this book, Sawyer Lock needs a new PR firm to handle press for his soon to be reopened, Grand Legacy Hotel. He hires Kendall Ross from Sl0an PR. There is one little problem unfortunately. Six weeks ago Sawyer and Kendall had a one night stand after meeting at a wedding. Having to keep a strictly professional relationship now, seems impossible. They both have had rocky past relationships which make trust an issue. From the title of the book, it's obvious what happens next. This book was entertaining. If you are looking for a quick read, give it a try.

TL;DR: QUICK AND CHEESY READ THAT'S FAIRLY LIGHT HEARTED AND SEXY

***

THE STORY:
When Sawyer Locke experiences multitudes of setbacks trying to restore a hotel that's been in his family for generations, likely due to his own father's sabotage, he decides it's time to hire a new PR team. It so happens to be the employer of a one-night stand he had that was apparently pretty great, but not so great that he called her after their night together. When they meet up again, he is game to go for another round, but Kendall is not so keen. Particularly when one of her colleagues just got fired for messing around with a client.

She doesn't put up much of a fuss though, because she's been really tired and horny lately. They end up embarking on a secret affair, and then Kendall finds out she's actually pregnant from their tryst of two months before. Sawyer doesn't think he's dad material, of course, and Kendall is already on thin ice when her boss discovers she's been banging their high profile client, and so Kendall cuts him off from her. In a series of sweeping gestures, they come together and decide to get engaged and have a real relationship.

TECHNICAL ELEMENTS:
The first thing about this book is that it's totally fine. It's a nice romance that doesn't have much to complain about it. It's a little cheesy. Some of the dialogue between the characters feels forced and unnatural. I felt that the absence of minor symptoms that could have been red flags for the pregnancy (sensitive nipples, etc) was unfortunate, because tiredness and sex dreams are barely the top of the iceberg, although it was nice that she didn't just start hurling suddenly, as often is the case for accidental pregnancy stories.

My biggest complaint is that the mystery of who has been sabotaging the Grand Legacy's construction is never truly revealed. There's a scene between Sawyer and his father where the Mr. Locke asserts that his late first wife (Sawyer's mother) had ties to people who were maybe on the dangerous side, but that plot is completely dropped. It seems that maybe the story will continue in another novel, but that seems ambitious for a category romance.

FINAL THOUGHTS:
Overall, this was a pretty fun read and I was engaged and interested in the two leads getting to their happily ever after. It wasn't entirely rushed, although it could have been flushed out a teensy bit more. I would have liked more explicit flashbacks to their one night tryst, but the smut scenes we got were decent.

Oh man, Karen Booth can write! I was swept away on a passionate, pulse-pounding romantic escape in her latest Desire offering: Pregnant by the Billionaire. In this story I met two insanely full-of-life, independent and fun main characters who had me hooked from the start. This character-driven romance was a drug to read and I couldn't get enough of it. I was sad to let Kendall and Sawyer go in the end. However, their journey to a happily ever after was worth every ups and downs and all in all I believe they truly deserve each other!

You know what’s even better than the one night stand, oops we got pregnant, second chance scenario? Actually caring about the characters and hoping that they work out in the end. I know, I read a lot of tropy books and I won’t apologize for it, but there are times when I just wanna go WTF? What I mean is that sometimes one of the characters just doesn’t work for me but then I love the other one. I’ve been finding that out in the last couple of books that I’ve read. Not the case with Kendall and Sawyer.

Sawyer could have been the overbearing, alpha but he wasn’t. He really cared for Kendall even if he didn’t call her after the wedding. Dummy. She waited and waited and then finally gave up. I loved that she even mentioned it to him and then let me have it. Kendall is my kind of heroine. Fiesty, unsure at times but in the end finally stands up for herself when it counts. Her work situation was interesting to read. If it had been me, I would have said something a lot earlier to her boss. What a witch.

Sawyer is dealing with a bunch of crap in relation to his father and I can’t wait to see how his siblings, Noah and Charlotte’s stories play out that arc. I almost feel sorry for the man. His kids can’t stand him but it seems like what he does to them is for the attention and love that he so wants from them. I also loved the connection that Sawyer had with the hotel. A speakeasy? Sign me up. I had a grandmother that I was very close with and when she died, her house had to be sold. I’m still sad about it but we couldn’t buy it.

Overall, Ms. Booth does it again. I really love her Desires and I can’t wait for the rest of the Locke Legacy. Bring it!

Yes, I'd like the Sawyer with the Noah drizzle, please.

I could not put this story down. Karen Booth has written yet another great start to another series. Her goal is always to get you to fall in love with these characters and hook you in for the long ride. *buckles my seatbelt* I'm ready!

Sawyer Locke isn't just another rich and powerful man with chiseled good looks. He has drives and passion, ambition and a heart of gold. I couldn't help but fall in love with him and swoon like crazy. Throw in that cool brother of his and I'm all set!

Of course this story has its romance. Kendall Ross is like my sister from another mister! She's loyal, fierce, and determined. Not only that, but she can make Sawyer putty in her hands. I love how she spoke her mind and wasn't afraid to put him on notice.

There's so much heat in this book that I'm surprised that it didn't melt. Should I put the book down? Give them some privacy? Sheesh! I couldn't get enough though!

Kendall is up and coming at her PR Firm when she is hired to do an account..She is shocked to see who it is she will be working with.but her one night stand Sawyer. He and his brother are trying to get the Grand Legacy up and running but they keep having problems, likely from their dad...Kendall comes on board and she makes it clear that this is just a business relationship..not anything more. But the more they are together the more they are drawn to each other..When Kendall goes to the doctor when she is feeling bad, she finds out she is pregnant. How will Sawyer handle the news? Can they over come everything and love each other enough to get through to the future...This was such a good story..

Harlequin Desire books, especially those by Karen Booth, are the perfect antidote to longer, more intense reads. Pregnant by the Billionaire is the start of a new series featuring the engaging Locke siblings, this first one featuring oldest brother Sawyer. As with all stories by Ms Booth, this one has well developed characters, an compelling story arc and some kindle melting sexy times! The heroine, Kendall, was just the kind of woman I enjoy reading - strong, compassionate and loyal. Looking forward to Charlotte Locke's story!

Absolutely LOVED it!! The cover was perfect for this book! I'm all about romance books with a pregnancy twist but add in a glorious hotel renovation & im all in!! What a great read this was too watch Kendall help Sawyer bring his dream to life with the historic renovation! Another great ability that Author Karen Booth has is working in that ever familiar family storyline ! I wasn't too fond of her idiot boss in the story but that was due to the well crafted work of Ms. Booth!:) I'd highly recommend this to all readers ! Great job!

Ok so the title gives it away about what is going to happen but this was picked up as an escape and something different. IT DELIVERED and I couldn't put it down. I am impressed that I found the start of a series as this is part of The Locke Legacy. I enjoyed the story and have added the next one to my list to keep an eye out for.

Since you already know the plot, all that’s left are the details. It’s a pretty easy read, and straightforward. It has the usual ups and downs you’d expect, but it’s sweet nonetheless.

With a lack of anticipation about the heroine’s fate, we’re left to read about Kendall Ross’s foolish affair with her client, Sawyer Locke. Locke is desperately trying to get his hotel, the Grand Legacy, up and running in time for New Year’s Day. Kendall wants to land a lucrative account as a PR agent because, damn it, she’s the best in her firm. Her no-nonsense boss has already fired an employee for getting into hanky panky with a client.

So Kendall knows to keep away from Sawyer and she’s hoping the engagement ring she’s sporting is enough for him to keep his distance. But Sawyer had a one-night stand with Kendall after a wedding when he was sure she was single. So he’s suspicious about her supposed engaged status, especially after a nasty co-worker drops a poisonous speculation in his ear about Kendall’s true romantic standing. So Sawyer threatens to pull his account if Kendall doesn’t come clean about being engaged because he doesn’t feel he can do business with someone he can’t trust.

Kendall tells him the engagement is none of his business and I had to agree. What does her status as a single or non-single woman have to do with the public relations she’s supposed to be managing with him? Kendall could put up arguments or real resistance, pointing out that firing her will mean that the job goes to the nasty coworker—someone who obviously can’t be trusted to be discreet—or her boss could sue Sawyer for wrongful termination. She might not win but could Sawyer handle a lawsuit on top of his frantic efforts to get his hotel up and running in the limited time allotted to him? Probably not. Also, the negative publicity on top of rumors that the hotel is a ramshackle mess would be very bad for Sawyer’s efforts.

But such intelligent ploys and stratagems never occur to heroines of romantic novels, no matter how smart they might be on paper. Kendall buckles to his threat and tells him she is indeed single…and we all know what happens next. In spite of knowing that her important, lucrative and fulfilling job is on the line, Kendall tumbles into the sack with Sawyer with predictable results.

Forbidden relationships have their own kind of spiciness and I understand their appeal, especially in romantic fiction. But I can’t excuse it when it happens between people who should know better, who have way too much at stake and so much to lose. Kendall also has the memory of her mother’s desperate bed-hopping with rich men that she hoped would marry her only to be disappointed when they never did. So Kendall has no excuse except that she can’t repress her libido.

These juvenile antics constantly depress me. Adults who behave like randy teens don’t scream “romance”; they speak of “unplanned pregnancy”. The only thing truly worth reading about is the renovation of the Grand Legacy itself. Pages outlining its former glory and its restored brilliance provide the reader with lovely internal images, almost enough to make up for the forgettable liaison between its dippy lead characters.
