NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER - A renowned psychic medium teaches us how to recognize and interpret the life-changing messages from loved ones and spirit guides on the Other Side.
Laura Lynne Jackson is a psychic medium and the author of the New York Times bestseller The Light Between Us. She possesses an incredible gift: the ability to communicate with loved ones who have passed, convey messages of love and healing, and impart a greater understanding of our interconnectedness. Though her abilities are exceptional, they are not unique, and that is the message at the core of this book. Understanding "the secret language of the universe" is a gift available to all. As we learn to ask for and recognize signs from the other side, we will start to find meaning where before there was only confusion, and see light in the darkness. We may decide to change paths, push toward love, pursue joy, and engage with life in a whole new way.
In Signs, Jackson is able to bring the mystical into the everyday. She relates stories of people who have experienced uncanny revelations and instances of unexplained synchronicity, as well as others drawn from her own experience. There's the lost child who appears to his mother as a deer that approaches her unhesitatingly at a highway rest stop; the name written on a dollar bill that lets a terrified wife know that her husband will be okay; the Elvis Presley song that arrives at the exact moment of Jackson's own father's passing; and many others. This is a book that is inspiring and practical, deeply comforting and wonderfully motivational, in asking us to see beyond ourselves to a more magnificent universal design.
I’m not really sure why people found this book so compelling. Overall, what the writer offers as a guide to opening yourself up to “signs” is merely a recipe for confirmation bias. The author talked about her fathers love for Elvis and the next day I noticed 2 Elvis references in my own life. Is this because her deceased father is seeking to contact me to validate the missed logic in this book? I doubt it. Let me save you the $14: if you ask the world (and your brain) to look for signs you are bound to start noticing them. You’re welcome.
Unlike the author, I will keep this brief and not repeat myself - I believe in signs from the universe and communication from the Other Side; however, this book could have been written in 50 pages or less. Often the writing was self-congratulatory, which did not add to the stories she was privileged to share.
Five stars: A positive book that opens the reader to believe in signs from the afterlife.
I am going to skip my conventional review style for this book and share a personal experience. I am not sure how this book fell into my lap. I think I saw it when I was researching books for my blog. Anyway, I thought it looked interesting so I put in a recommendation at my library. I was surprised when they purchased the book, but pleased. I downloaded the library ebook on my Kindle and plunged in. To be perfectly honest, I don’t have a strong opinion on psychic mediums, I don’t discount what they can do, but I have never had a personal experience with one, so I am on the fence. After reading this book, I am a believer. The book is all about opening your mind and heart to the infinite signs in the universe that are sent to us by our “Team of Light”, or those who are deceased that look after us, our guardian angels if you will. Our Team of Light is always on the other side sending us messages and signs, trying to get us to open our minds. When my mom passed away unexpectedly in 2016, I told her the morning she passed that I would always think of her when I saw a dragonfly as dragonflies are special to both of us. After she passed, I did see dragonflies quite often, and I felt her presence. There were unexplained lights flickering, light bulbs burning out constantly, and one time a light clicked on by itself, so I knew she was there trying to communicate with me. It has been over three years now, and I haven’t felt her presence as much. I was beginning to think maybe she wasn’t around anymore. Then I picked up this book. The opening paragraph says that is no accident that this book came to me, I thought that was a strong message. Anyway, the author goes on to tell stories of people receiving signs from their loved ones when they asked. I wished fervently that my mom would send me a dragonfly again because I hadn’t seen one from her in a long time. Three or four days went by and nothing, and I was beginning to think the book was wishful thinking. Then on Saturday, my husband I were driving somewhere. We arrived at our destination, but I was talking on the phone with my dad because he had called me while we were driving so I didn’t get out immediately. We were sitting in the parking lot, chatting with my dad, when all of a sudden this beautiful green dragonfly flew up and starting banging against our windshield. It kept doing it. I started to cry and said, “It’s my dragonfly from my mom.” The dragonfly kept hovering by our car, and when I got out, it flew up to me and followed me for a minute. I know it sounds totally crazy, but it happened, my husband saw it for himself, and trust me, he is a total skeptic. I knew then that my mom had sent me a sign loud and clear. She is still there watching over me, sending her love. After that, I opened my mind to the rest of the book. All I can say, is that you have to read it for yourself, especially if you are struggling with the loss of a love one. It is a beautiful experience. I learned so much about being receptive to those signs out there. This book was just what I needed. So if you are wanting to open your mind to the possibilities of messages from the other side, read this book. It was a life changing read for me, and I am glad I took the chance.
I borrowed a copy of this book from the library. All opinions are my own, and I was not compensated for this review. Posted@Rainy Day Ramblings.
I was really looking forward to this book, and was quickly disappointed. I was hopeful that it would be a more comprehensive guide to signs, how they work, and different ways they present themselves in a person's life. This instead was a collections of stories. It felt more of a version of "Chicken Soup for the Soul Signs Edition". I feel the author missed a great opportunity to make this into a unique niche that is much needed and sought after.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I am a bit struggling to finish this book. I just feel it’s a combinaison of different stories from different people and that’s it 🤷🏻♀️ Two or three stories is ok but now it seems like the whole book is small stories from many different people. The title should have been different then “signs; stories of people communicating with the other side”
I'm mostly embarrassed that i even spent time reading this. (It was recommended by a friend.) Don't let her first chapter fool you, this is entirely written from a Judeo-Christian p.o.v. and clearly only accounts stories of affluent individuals who could afford her services. The ENTIRE book is just complied of stories of people seeing signs, NOT any meaning behind them, origins of these beliefs, or even analogies to anything outside of this woman's readings.
Please understand I am not a skeptic, I believe that there are signs in our universe, but this book does nothing to further tuning into those signs or learning about them outside of a "god-based" belief system. All perspectives are from a Christian view-point and that is not how the book presents itself. There's an entire chapter that discusses a woman being talked out of her abortion by her dead father because she "chose love", a chapter on prayer, and consistent references to Jesus. If this book is meant to be Christian literature then please label it as such.
The only chapter worth reading is 30...(why did I really suffer through 29 to get there)...which discusses the importance of art, travel, and basic self-care routines.
I read this on recommendation, and tried to find something between the lines, but this was beyond awful. If you're looking for actual information on signs find something from Llewellyen Publications.
I wanted to be wowed, I really did. I was not wowed. And she totally lost me when she says she received information from “the other side” that the HPV vaccine caused her daughters behavioral and medical problems. At this point not only am I not more of a believer, but I’m trying not to be less of a believer. I want to unread this book.
My pride is taking a bit of a hit admitting this, but I wanted to believe. Grief messes with you. It made this lifelong skeptic take pause, buy a freaking book, and say, “but what if?” And despite it being relatively simple to explain the well-documented tricks mediums use to create the illusion that they have any sort of special abilities, so many of us still continue to turn the other cheek.
Why?
Maybe it’s just not that easy to let go of the hope that you can still talk to the people you love once they’re gone.
But in the end, Laura Lynne Jackson and her book, “Signs”, still couldn’t convince me that there is an “other side” any more than she could convince me that some of us possess an ability to communicate with the dead. Despite a ringing endorsement from newly-woke comedian Chelsea Handler and an admittedly fascinating podcast, in the end, I had to side with reason.
It’s a lovely concept, if you don’t think too critically about it: the existence of the “other side”, shrouded in love and light. A reality where death isn’t real and we get to be with our loved ones again. Not just our loved ones, either, apparently. Our pets and our unborn babies, too, according to Laura Lynne!
Here’s my other problem with this book:
It encourages us to look for comfort in all the wrong places. When faced with loss, it’s only natural that we look to feel better at just about any cost - and mediums fill that void happily and hungrily. Two weeks ago, I said to a friend that things that bring us comfort “can’t be bad.” But that’s not true. Aside from the financial loss many suffer at the hands of so-called mediums, mediums also offer a false promise of closure. This is Psychological Manipulation 101. What grieving people need in order to truly heal and move on are compassion and understanding; not false empathy and hope.
Finally, I want to address those who have a strong faith. Although I am personally not one to turn to religion and spirituality as a way of understanding the world, I acknowledge that many do. Despite my own beliefs, this is not my attempt to undermine your faith. You don’t have to believe in mediums in order to believe in the afterlife.
For those who are trying to understand the little signs we get from loved ones after they pass, this is the book for you. I think I cried during every chapter. That doesn't happen...EVER. But when you read about children dying and then sending signs that they are okay from the other side, you can't help but get choked up.
The story about the red balloon brought chills to me before the uncontrollable sobbing.
Ms. Jackson describes a lot of the things I understand about the universe in a different, yet practical way for those who have not had advanced training in meditation and enlightenment. She is a medium that converses with those who have died. These stories are important for people who are grieving. It will help them understand that they are never truly alone and that those they love are never truly gone.
I read about half way through the book but just got bored with the endless examples. Wanted to find out more about recognizing signs rather than personal experiences.
I’ve given this book five stars because it’s very readable.
It tells us how we can ask our deceased loved ones to give us signs from the other side to let us know they’re okay.
The author is a medium and can easily contact the dead. But she tells us we can all get signs from them.
We are given dozens of true life examples of people constantly receiving signs from the other side.
Once the author asked for an orange to be put in her path as a sign, and came across a decoration with thousands of oranges. When we ask for a specific sign we may be sent it dozens of times in various creative ways.
She tells us: 1) We receive signs from God energy, 2) We receive signs from our spirit guides/the angelic realm. 3) We receive signs from our loved ones who have crossed.
We hear many sad stories about family members, often children, that have passed but who contact their mother/father after death, thus providing great comfort.
I didn’t find there to be any unique stories, however, just lots of comforting, readable stories.
However, despite asking numerous times, I have not myself received any signs from passed loved ones, so this was disappointing.
There’s a chapter about how to shine brightly where we learn about shifting our energy, gratitude, food, sleep, prayer, manifesting and how thoughts matter.
This is a well-written inspiring book and I will now be reading the author’s other book “The light between us”.
I loved this book. Having lost close people in my life . This gave me hope knowing that they’ll be fine and that they look out for us. So i kept asking for a sign . I didn’t have anything specific to ask for . And then on my dads bday something happened and I’m shook. So I have a note named “bday “ on my phone where I have made a note of bdays for the upcoming days and the gifts I want to give. This is just me planning ahead . Laura has mentioned that you ll come across some technical glitch as a sign . So this particular note kept popping up during my dads birthday. I found that to be a weird thing . It’s a note not a reminder . I went through the note thinking maybe I missed something And I didn’t understand . Then later I saw the date and realised it was my dads bday and maybe this was his way to communicating with me. And it didn’t happen after that. And I felt that’s so weird and i’m shook . I’m also happy that I got this sign 😊
I cannot understand how this book got so many positive reviews. I guess it's simply a reflection of people's desperation following the death of a loved one. The author makes no effort to substantiate her claims in any scientific way. She just keeps talking about god and offers a bunch of stories that pretty much demonstrate you can find symbols anywhere you want, if you decide to. But the worst part of this book is that it's just so boring and repetitive! What a waste of money.
75% anecdotal, 20% self-importance, 5% insightful information, and don't forget the copious amounts of name-dropping. This is definitely not what I expected, and to be honest I would happily scrape what I just read from my brain with my nails if I could.
What you read here are stories about grieving people desperately searching for "signs from the universe" by intentionally scanning via pattern recognition. Obviously if you go looking for something, you're going to see what you want to see.
This is not the way to go about receiving wisdom from the veil. True signs from the universe are revealed to you intuitively and in their own time, anything else is a misguided attempt to forcibly come to terms with trauma. The actions depicted here are not healthy nor do I recommend them.

This is basically a collection of stories of people connecting with the “other side.” If you already believe that is possible you don’t need to read this book. If you already believe that is not possible, reading this book won’t change your mind.
There were parts I like and parts I didn’t. The beginning and end were good but the middle was a slog. I believe in signs and that there’s more to the world and all, I just don’t believe with all the specific things she had put together to explain it all. I think she makes it too easy and makes the world seem too pretty, which brings me to my main qualm. It’s easy for me, a rich white girl, to believe all is great despite a few hiccups. But how could other people, people less fortunate than me, buy into that? How could a widow in Syria who lost all her kids and has nothing say life is great and all about togetherness and love?
So this book feels like it’s written for wealthy white women who do yoga to be cool and eat healthy. It’s all a fad to be cool and I fear there’s nothing deeper. I think the author is onto some things but her moments of good get clouded by all this other stuff. I also hate how she is constantly trying to sell me her method, not literally but one every page she’s basically saying “this is how it is, I’m right.”
And she is partially right. But the book got clouded by this other stuff, by her and not her message. Also it just got plain ole repetitive. Do I need 1000 (exaggeration) stories of the same thing to get ur point?
Update:
Maybe Laura is more right than I know. She talks to much and is too into herself but she seems to be right. Last night, finishing the book, I asked my Dad to send me a sign: Satchel Page. Not someone you see or hear about too often. I thought it would prove it was wrong and never come, but less than 24 hrs later I’m in the kitchen making bread and I heart a commercial on the TV my mom is watching say “satchel page.” It’s too weird to be a coincidence or confirmation bias. She had just changed the channel. It is a sign. So besides all the hulubuloo, ask for a sign. I will change me rating from 3 to 4 stars for this gift the book opened me up to. Hi dad!
Lots of stories on signs. Signs from the universe, from passed away loved ones, guardian angels, etc. Make sure you're always open to signs because they may direct you quicker to your destiny and what's meant to be. Connecting with people who have passed can be very heart warming and allow us to carry on living our lives.
Absolutely loved this book. I’m such a big believer in the signs and how we can connect with our past loved ones. This book just solidified everything I already knew I felt and believed in. I highly recommend everyone to read this I think it may help some people grieve as well as be uplifting in your everyday life.
I could not wait to read this book. It did not disappoint. I admit, I love anything about Spirit that is deeply meaningful, ethical, and radiant. This book allows readers to connect with loved ones from the other side and is full of vignettes of lovely and emotional times various people have connected with the Other Side. Signs are everywhere and as a believer, and after reading this book, I have received more signs than usual (because I love communicating with those who have passed) and so have my friends. I have an incredible story about a dear colleague who didn’t believe but just went along with me (probably to get me out if the way🤨) and I suggested a turtle with yellow on its shell. Two days later her family member posted a random picture of a turtle crossing the green at a golf outing....with yellow over the lower back part of his shell. It’s was crazy powerful, fun, and inspiring.
Laura Lynne Jackson’s writing feels like she’s drinking tea and chatting with you. Her suggestions and explanations are forth right, grounded and grounding, and dusted with a spiritual glitter that fills you with awe. As we all know glitter sticks with you and never really leaves you, just like the message of this book. Thanks, LLJ!
Since i first heard about this book on an episode of Bitch Sesh I’ve picked it up and put it down several times. However, much like the openness of accepting signs, when I started it today I was riveted. I alternated between getting goosebumps and teary-eyes reading the stories. I think I was looking more for guidance on how to be more open to receiving signs into my own life instead of reading so much about others.
I think people either believe in this sort of thing or they don’t, so I don’t know if any skeptics are going to be swayed by reading this book. But since I feel like I have asked for and received signs in the past, wow! This book is full of amazing stories. I suppose I have thought that in my own life, those signs were a one off, but I’m going to be more open to ongoing experiences from now on.
Part Four of the book will resonate with anyone familiar with Unity or Louise Hay.
There’s also a lovely poem called “Gone From My Sight” by Henry Van Dyke quoted in this book. Nice thoughts.
I bought this as an audio book and listened while driving over the mountains to my hometown the day after school finished for the year (I'm a teacher). It took me to a different world - the world of communicating with dead relatives! You don't have to be a psychic medium to "hear" your own cheering team - you just have to know how to ask for a specific sign. I kept this advice in mind while driving. My father passed away 20 years ago, but when I asked for a specific sign, he sent it to me. Laura Lynne Jackson assures readers that signs are everywhere; we just have to pay attention. I liked that she was a teacher - the way she presents such an unusual topic is actually straight forward and encouraging. For me, it was the perfect book to get my mind out of student learning objectives, graduation plans, and bell schedules. My only question for the author is: can one communicate in the same way with living people?
I came to this book by way of a former classmate who recently loss her husband and became widowed at 40 years of age with her three children. She posted it in her facebook feed and I ordered it moments later. I was doubly intrigued that the authored an English teacher and a local. While the book speaks to things I already intuitively know, it has opened my mind and heart to so much more. This is a story about connecting with the Other Side, and this means many stories of loss but they are beautiful and cathartic. I cried a lot but not because it is sad but because it is about all the love and energy that binds is to one another. It’s okay to be a skeptic, but I am long last that and know when the universe is shining a light on something for a reason. If you’re in tune to the signs, this is a book I think you will want to read.
Reading this felt like a teary hug :,) One of my favorite parts about Earth is chatting about signs and angel stories so I really enjoyed this. Signs are everywhere if you are lookin. Highly recommend for people who feel lost since the passing of a loved one. Highly recommend to anyone who has ever thought, “Is that all there is?” Highly recommend for those who are open to learning the language of the universe.
Disappointing a bit, was super excited... but nothing new and just stories from other people. Wish it was more on how to decipher and communicate with the signs.
Um livro simplesmente maravilhoso e que nos mostra como estamos conectados ao Outro Lado e nos podemos apoiar na matriz que nos une a todos sempre que precisarmos de mais luz no nosso caminho. Adorei!
April 2021: I re-read this book because it resonated with me so strongly that first time and I need some positivity and inspiration right now. Pandemic life has been hard on me, along with extra personal challenges I've faced recently. I feel isolated and less optimistic than usual. This book was a reminder that we are all connected, both here and on The Other Side. I feel inspired to ask The Universe for what I need and be open to guidance.
Since reading it the first time, I've lost a few people I cared about. The author reminded me that they are not completely gone from my life. I really liked hearing stories about how she has helped people connect with their loved ones and understand the messages being sent.
---------------------------
April 2019 As someone who is already open to receiving signs from The Universe, I wasn't sure I'd get much from this book but was interested anyway. I'm so glad I chose it because it opened my heart and mind even further! I found it a bit repetitive, though I'm sure that's intentional to drive the point home. The tone of the book is overwhelmingly positive and encouraging. Jackson uses straightforward language to best explain her beliefs and give guidance. She shows the ready how to not only remain open to signs from The Other Side, but to live a life that is based in love, not fear.
Many thanks to NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
