The greatest hurdle to change is the first step--the decision to do it. After that, anything is possible. The 24-Hour Turn-Around challenges people to spend one hour reading and contemplating each of the book's 24 short chapters and to make a heartfelt decision to change in the area each chapter addresses. Decisions made in those 24 hours will transform the reader's career, health, relationships, and overall attitude. Topics include improving self-worth, setting achievable goals, controlling anxiety, winning by quitting, making the most of money, discovering excellence, and more.
This books gives you 24 lessons to change your life. Instead of reading it all the way, I decided to read each chapter(hour) and work on it and when I felt like I had improved on the subject matter of the chapter then I would get back to the book and read another chapter/hour. I have spent months on this book, reading, working, rereading. Some lessons are easier than others example 'a transformed thought life' life was easier for me than 'up with enthusiasm' because I was already on a journey to curb the thought monkey in my head(see mindfulness). All the lessons in the book, I dare say are worth working on. I intend to get back to the chapters from time to time and reeducate myself. The best thing about the book is the simplicity of it's writing, the shortness of the chapter/hours and how easy the strategies are presented. This is not a book that promises you miracles unlike those books that give you more promises that solutions(any diet book ever😁). I would recommend reading it in bed before you begin your day so you can have something to work on during the day. All in all I recommend.
I find it hard extremely offensive when books say nothing about Jesus on the back cover but mention him every other page once you go to the trouble of buying/borrowing and starting it. Not only that, some of the stuff that he mentioned like thought *preceding* action and not the other way around is one of those intuitive things that seems true but actually has plenty of evidence against it. How can I trust him for the rest of the book if he’s lying in the first ten pages? 2 stars bc it had some good quotes, but that wasn’t enough to keep me going. DNF
As I was reading it, I felt that some of the information was dated. I didn't realize until I was done that the book was written over 30 years ago. Which explains a lot. Some if the information and tips are still very relevant and give good food for thought. It is a VERY Christian leaning book with Bible references on nearly every page.
There isn't anything new to learn, rather, it is a way to redirect thoughts when listening to explanations of various thought patterns to common problems. Some differed initially from mine, and that makes sense as we are what we think-and it should be genuine, while also open to understanding other possible perspectives that might corelate with behaviour and success
I love how each hour was broken up. I really took the time to focus on the chapters and the advice given. I highlighted A LOT, let's just say that. Towards the end, I did drift off and lose interest. Definitely a good book to take what you need from it.
This book contains 24 ideas to incorporate into our lives for success and better living. Each chapter is meant to be pondered over for an hour, thus the "24-hour" in the title. The ideas are all important things, but I just tired of reading it after awhile, though I did finish it.
As far as self-help/leadership books go, this was a good read. There are 24 entries, and the premise of the book is that if you were to address these 24 inspiring pieces of advice (that include references to advice and inspiration from the Bible), your life would be changed.
