I feel like this should be some kind of required reading for intercessors, prophetic and Christians alike. Seriously this is so easily read and understandable regarding discernment. I could not rave about this book enough. I know understand why I could not pick this up until the end of the year. This confirmed and clarifed a lot of questions I have had all year long. Like I can't wait to reread this over and over again since it is such an amazing resource to the body of Christ! What a gem!

I have been aware of the supernatural realm for most of my life, having experiences with angels and demons and the occult at a time in my life when I thought that there was only one supernatural realm to experience. I did not realize that there were a good and an evil realm. From the time that I was born again and filled with the Holy Spirit, I operated in the gift of discerning of spirits in my life and in the life of my family.

It is important to realize that there is a difference between the 9 gifts of the Holy Spirit which are all received at the same time when a person is filled with the Holy Spirit and the 5 ministry gifts of the Holy Spirit (apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor and teacher) which are given as God wills for the sake of the church. Every Spirit-filled believer has the right and ability to operate in discerning of spirits in his personal life and in the personal ministry that God gives him (for example all believers are told to speak in tongues, heal the sick, cast out demons, raise the dead--Mk 10, Mt 16). However not all the ministry gifts are available to everyone. Most people are never called to public ministry and do not receive the ministry gifts.

Jennifer Eviaz operates as a minister in ministry gifts. Her experiences will be broader than those of most individuals. I think that this book needs to be read from this perspective or it could seem overwhelming to most believers. Most believers will not experience everything described in this book.

This is an extremely thorough book and a very practical one. It covers all aspects of discerning of spirits. Some of this book is outside my experience, especially the descriptions of people who had supernatural experiences in discerning of spirits before they were born again and filled with the Holy Spirit and felt that if they told people what they were experiencing, they would be considered psychologically unstable, for example, feeling unusual symptoms when they were in certain places or around certain people. However, just because it is outside my experience does not mean that it is invalid. I trust the ministry of Jennifer Eviaz and those with similar experiences are taught how to use this type of manifestation. For those who might think this is unscriptural because the gift of discerning of spirits is given after being filled with the Holy Spirit, I would say that for these people for whom this experience was very real, it is possible that they were born with the inherent closeness to the supernatural realm. They saw into the supernatural realm but that does not mean that they had discerning of spirits. I saw spirits as a child. I did not know they were evil. I did not know how to handle them. That is not discerning of spirits.

Discerning of spirits involves seeing them but also discerning them: determining if they are good or evil, understanding their root of entry if they are evil, and knowing how to deal with the individual. Mt 12:45 describes how, if a demon is cast out before a person learns to close the door and have the spiritual strength to prevent them to re-enter, a person can be left in worse condition. Discerning of spirits is not simply seeing them. It is knowing how to deal individually with each situation.

Jennifer Eviaz describes all her experiences with discerning of spirits, including the mistakes she has made. Her approach is very detailed, giving many specific examples of people operating in deliverance and those being delivered. I think that is part of what makes the book so effective. It is not theoretical but practical.

Chapters include: seeing both sides of the supernatural realm, the gift of discerning of spirits, how to distinguish between spirits, discerning spiritual atmospheres, and discerning angels, principalities and powers.

It covers just about every experience a person is likely to encounter in today's churches.

However, there is much to the supernatural realm that is not discussed in this book. This is not being critical. Jennifer Eviaz is operating in the ministry to which God has called her. To move beyond it would be dangerous to others and to her.

But if you are dealing wih SRA or DID or soul scalping or any of these other problems which seem on the surface to be demonic but are not, there is probably no better source of information and practical knowledge than from Daniel Duval. (Bride Mininstries International). This is a branch of discerning of spirits which deals with the human spirit.

I will never experience everything in this book. God has made each one of us different. This is a valuable book because it makes you more aware of what others are going through. It helps you to understand their different approaches to ministry. It helps you to become sensitive to the spiritual needs of others. I think it brings unity to the Body of Christ. Just because we do not experience everything in this book does not make these experiences invalid.

Read it with an open mind. Allow the Holy Spirit to lead you into all truth.

[Note:  This book was provided free of charge by Chosen Books.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.]

It may seem particularly humorous, but I read a lot of books that deal with the subject of spiritual warfare, and many of them come from the same publisher or group of publishers.  Admittedly, my own beliefs about spiritual warfare are somewhat distinct to those of the publisher, but even so I find a great deal that is of interest in seeing the connections between different people who claim great gifts of discernment for themselves and demonstrate themselves as being part of the same larger tradition [1].  These writers show a good deal of evidence in that they read the same books and often know and respect the same people and even quote each other frequently.  They use the same sort of non-biblical jargon and it seems that a great deal of their appeal is directed towards believers with a high degree of sensitivity, certain mystical tendencies, and an experience of feeling that their gifts of spiritual discernment have received negative treatment from somewhat repressive church authorities.  It is pretty likely that this consists of a large number of people and that these books have a high degree of appeal to certain audiences.

The particular version of the book I read was a bit under 100 pages and was divided into eight chapters.  The author begins by discussing both sides of the supernatural, knowing that many people tend to focus on negative (demonic) aspects of the gifts of spiritual discernment while others focus on the positive (angelic) aspects of those gifts.  Immediately after this the author turns to discussing the gift of discerning spirits, not only whether they are good or bad but what specific sort of spirit they are.  The author then gives a great deal of autobiographical detail in giving some of what she believes are the fundamental principles of distinguishing between spirits, sometimes to a very specific degree.  The author then moves on to discuss spiritual atmospheres, the sort of characteristic problems that beset different areas and institutions.  The author then talks about the very helpful gift of distinguishing between those who are for or against you.  The author moves after this to discerning angels, specifically, before moving on to discerning various powers and principalities.  The author closes with a discussion about the importance of knowing what to do with one's discernment, including not overreacting to it as some do.

In reading this book and others like it, one is faced with the reality that there is a highly advanced demonology and angelology among charismatic Christians that is quite distinct from other backgrounds within Christianity.  Strikingly, though, the author of this book demonstrates a high regard for respect for authority as well as obedience to clear biblical commands and a strong degree of hostility to spirits of anarchy that she views as demonic.  What surprised me was the strong degree of agreement between the author and me, despite our differences in religious worldview.  Then again, as someone who has a deeply personal degree of interest in spiritual warfare, largely springing from the darkness and brokenness of my own personal background and my own fairly high degree of personal sensitivity in such matters, perhaps it is not surprising that I would have somewhat similar views to those with similar areas of interest even if we come from different places.  It is in that light that I give this book a somewhat cautious recommendation, because there is much in here that I find a bit too formalized in human traditions and unbiblical expressions but also a great deal here that is of insight to believers with a strong interest in spiritual warfare as well as the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

4.25 stars. This was an excellent look at discernment and being more equipped. I greatly enjoyed it, but I thought there were far too many anecdotes on others' stories and Eivaz's own testimony. I wanted more in depth connections and explanations of the Scriptures and felt that this book would've benefited from 2-5 more pages on each chapter for Scriptural teaching. Full review to come.

If you desire to know about things spiritually on a deeper level than what most talk about, this book is for you. I love gaining wisdom, insight and understanding about the Word of God, things seen and unseen, as well as people in general and this book shined a big light on quite a few areas for me. I would highly recommended this book for anyone seeking spiritual understanding as well as anyone desiring to go deeper in their relationship with Holy Spirit. I eagerly anticipate reading another book by this author and truly enjoyed every moment of this one.

A Christian being demonically possessed is not the same thing as being demonically oppressed. She did express somewhat the difference. However, the Holy Spirit HIMSELF would NEVER COHABIT with a demon inside of a person. I don’t see how someone could have both even through spirit, soul & body being totally different things, yet only the Holy Spirit consuming one of them? That makes no sense…Another thing, the Bible NEVER MENTIONS a believer/follower of Christ being possessed by demons…There isn’t enough justifiable basis for the claim that she makes in a lot of things. Also, her jealousy situation has nothing to do with her husband being in a store called “envy.” I think she discerned wrong and God wasn’t trying to show her her husband was at that store by allowing her to have immense emotions. God was really trying to show her a deeper insecurity within herself that needed attention because 1. She couldn’t trust her husband or God enough with her husband. 2 She needed to let go of “control” because when it comes to having the gift of discernment, I myself can testify it comes with a HUGE temptation and frustration to “PLAY GOD” with our emotions/senses. She should’ve shared that. Discernment isn’t all about feelings. It’s going to come with revelation from God Himself when He wants us to actually know what’s going on with people or the atmosphere. Our emotions and our hearts will always fail us. God, never will. Some stuff was alright, a lot of stuff just didn’t have enough biblical rock to stand on and confirm. Sure, we can discern things, we can see and sense, but at the end of the day, it’s going to be LOVE that will win souls over to Christ. A love that is fueled by the Holy Spirit. Discernment can so easily become manipulative by satan himself if we aren’t fully aligned with God and know true theology. No offense, just what I personally think about this book. Would I recommend it? No. 2 Corinthians 14-15. Wasn’t worth the time to read the whole thing. All it is, is relatable. But no biblical truth to truly back it up.

Seeing the Supernatural is a very interesting book. The author states she has been into the occult since she was young because of her parents and that she's saw ghosts which she now knows as demons her whole life from a very young child to now. She states we can see them or at least feel them , but in Scripture it says that the gift of discernment is given to someone not all – at least that is how I read it – I could be wrong. She seems to believe every single one of us have or will see a demon or can even be not possess but occupied by one . It does not go into depth about the subject in a way I had not read before and was very interested and could understand it very well and it was a very wonderful book and it was very short compared to every other book I have read, I truly enjoyed this book. I received a copy of this book from the Publisher and Netgalley; all the opinions expressed in this review are all my own.

Great start to researching this gift from GOD

This is the second book I've read about this subject. The Veil by Blake K. Healy was the first book that I read. After reading his book and learning of his amazing supernatural gifts and encounters with the spiritual realm, I realized that my life and all the supernatural things I've encountered and experienced first hand was also happening to others around that world.
I'm not crazy! I just need to find others in my area! A church in my area would be amazing but I don't believe there is one. If I walked into any Christian church's where I live and told them the supernatural things that i feel all around us with my GOD given senses they'd probably have me locked up. I never understood the church. They believe Jesus healed the sick, made blind men see, and walked on water ( to name a few) but anybody else having these abilities is not possible and must be pagan or witchcraft and if the devil.
Well that's not so. I LOVE GOD/JESUS SO SO MUCH.
Just the thought of his love for me beings tears to my eyes.

I am always interested in learning more about this subject and I have a desire to be more sensitive to what is going on around me supernaturally. I have read other books similar to this and have enjoyed them. I liked this book as well.
I appreciated how Jennifer talked not only about seeing the negative things but also seeing positive things, like angels. She also discusses picking up on things from other people and things they might carry with them. I really like learning the name of some spirits and their function and how they attack us. This makes it so much easier to come against them, knowing their function and how they try to take us down.
If you find this subject interesting I highly recommend this book.

A copy of this book was given to me through Netgalley.com. All opinions are my own.

When I originally read this, I had just barely became a Christian and thought this book was wonderful. God revealed to me later though that not all "Christian" books are good, even if they have raving reviews. This book is steeped in the NAR (New Apostolic Reformation) teaching which is heretical, un-biblical, and downright demonic. There's a part where the author describes "miracles" that happened in the church and one is feathers falling from angels. This is a known trick from false churches, except usually it's gold dust. STAY AWAY from this book it brought me spiritual experiences... But they were all demonic and I thank the Lord He showed me the error of these kinds of teaching. Find good Biblical teaching, not this!

When I started reading this book and opened the pages I could smell something on the pages. I’ve never experienced this before but It’s was a sweet aroma. This book has been so eye-opening and has helped me to see the importance of the gift of Discerning of spirits. I definitely want to reread it again because it’s that good. I’ve read books before where I can’t understand or comprehend what they are saying. It’s great that the author has a high level of intelligence but I don’t. So I love that I can understand what Jennifer Eivaz the author is trying to convey and it’s brought to a level of comprehension.

👀👀 This book 📖!!!!

I purchased this on the spot after seeing it in a post on twitter by John Eckhardt. It did not disappoint and gives insight examples, reflections and questions at the end of each chapter. It made me think about my own gift and whether I have it or not. I read it in a few after buying because I couldn’t put it down. It’s packed with VALUABLE information on discernment. My eyes were stretched wide open. This is a gift everyone should pray to receive. Awesome 👏🏽

I think an overemphasis on the fantastic can lead a Christian astray. Spiritualism can become a dopamine rush and you are constantly looking for a new "hit"; sometimes in error. Christ wants us in the material world using our material minds and wills to accomplish His purpose. If you can follow Him without day-tripping into the spiritual realm constantly, then you are a dedicated, mature, reliable, Disciple...just the kind He needs to advance the Kingdom this side of death.

Very Inspiring!

This boon confirmed many things that I had been experiencing as an intercessor. I se that I am not the only one and that is very encouraging. Even down to the signs of certain principalities was all confirmation of what I had been dealing with. After reading this I now see that I have the gift if discerning of spirits, and have my whole life. God is good. I love how he lets us know we are not alone

I found this book in a second-hand bookstore. I have always been interested in the topic. I found some sections seemed very familiar, while others were kinda "preachy". The thoughts for reflection were redundant of what was outlined in the text, and I skipped these sections, as well as the sections that seemed to teach religion. It is a simple read with many things to consider when determining if you have this gift or not.

Lots of good revelation as usual :)

I have this gift and love how Jennifer explains it. I’m still learning and walking it out and it’s good to know what she and others have experienced. It helps me reflect on similar situations and grow in wisdom. You have to have a relationship with the Holy Spirit and I’m going to be paying so much more attention to all of my senses!

Awesome book to gain quick pertinent information

This book allowed me to see areas in my own life that I missed the acknowledgement of Gods hand being involved. So many times in life we tend to think things just happen. I’m beginning to understand there are no cowicedences in life.

good reminder

This book talked about an aspect of my Christian life that I hadn’t thought about for a long time. The importance of discerning a persons spirit and then knowing how to pray or speak to that person. I would tend to avoid a person with a bad spirit, but we are here to help those who need God’s touch in their lives. I thought this book was helpful and legit.

This is an excellent book that teaches the Christian there is a Spiritual Kingdom of God and a spirit kingdom of the devil. Therefore we must learn to discern both. This book will help you to know.

Well done!

This will be a book that becomes somewhat of a reference for me. Jennifer Eivaz speaks directly, bringing scripture to each area and as reference for definitions and working in the gift of discernment.

I will be reading this book again at some point.
