In this thrilling and romantic conclusion to Kat's Law, Dr. Kathryn Meriwether must deal with a Cholera outbreak threatening the residents she cares for in Snowberry, Idaho, a killer not armed with a gun as the one whom ex-Texas Ranger Jonathan Winthrop pursues into the Sawtooth Range, but just as deadly and unpredictable. Once again, each will handle the crisis with the skills they've been given, but ultimately will find a greater strength in facing their future together. A high valley promise will unite them as an undeniable force to meet the challenges of their frontier home.
Snowberry, ID. Payette Valley. Dr. Katie “Kat” Meriwether (daughter/sister, Aunt) was contemplating still working for/with her father Dr. Nathaniel Meriwether. Timothy Hindricks (former teacher) & Sheriff Jonathan Winthrop (ex-Texas Ranger) were discussing the rising gold/silver mines in Sawtooths & the demand for cattle to feed them. Mrs. Forester (mercantile owners, counter) & Mr. Forester (post office) were gossiping about the town events/folks.
Kat was telling Mrs. Forester about her future. Dr. David Reynolds had just arrived & was out/about town introducing himself. Mr. Charlie McDonald (widower, father, bakery owner, school board member) informed Sheriff Winthrop that the new school teacher just up/left town because she was going to get married in Boise City. Sheriff Winthrop informed Kat he had to travel to Idaho City, ID. Dr. Reynolds was attending to Benjamin Johnston (son). Dr. Kat Meriwether & Dr. Meriwether were discussing the boy’s symptoms with him. Hopefully, Owen's Creek is not exposed to an Cholera or influenza epidemic. More water samples farther upstream must be taken. Victoria Townsend (wealthy), Hermione Schuster, & Katherine Porter were having their fancy social gathering. The Gillet family’s outhouse was the source of contaminating the water supply.

A very awesome book cover, & great font/writing style. Wow, a very well written western romance (short story) book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. To be continued. This could also make another great western romance movie, or better yet a mini TV series. There is no doubt in my mind this is a very easy rating of 5 stars.

Snowberry, ID. (Payette Valley). Kat Meriwether & Josie (Kat’s childhood friend), were ogling over Sheriff Jonathan Winthrop (ex-Texas Ranger). Kat’s (daughter, Aunt) hope/dreams are to be like her father Dr. Nathaniel Meriwether, help cure PPL’s health problems. Timothy Hindricks & Adam owned a cattle ranch where Jonathan also worked. Kat was now a Dr. & married to Jonathan.
There was gold/silver to be found in the Sawtooths & Lake City. There would be a need for cattle. Dr. David Reynolds had just arrived & was out/bout town introducing himself. Charlie McDonald (father) new bakery business had taken off. Ms. Maddie McDonald (daughter) was keeping the customers happy. Gabe Lowry (father), & Dillon Lowry (son), were sharing their not-so-lucky ore mining stories with some of the patron’s. A Cholera epidemic had erupted in/around town. Dr. Nathaniel Meriwether was trying to locate the source. He was taken water samples everywhere.
Daniel Harrison had set fire to Mr. Carter Gillet place. Timothy Hindricks (school board member), & Adam Hindricks (son), came to intervene & help out. Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, was a great TV series

This novella is a romance set in 1888 in the Idaho Territory. It's so short and undeveloped that it seemed more like a extended epilogue for "Kat's Law" than a story by itself. Kat and the other doctors in her town realize that they have a cholera outbreak. The focus was on tracking down the source and calming the townspeople. I got the impression that the author didn't know much about cholera.
Jonathan felt like he must fulfill a promise to a gal that died before he can marry Kat. The girl's killer has shown up in the area, so he goes after the very dangerous killer. By himself. Right when Kat really could've used his help. How romantic! Er. Clearly, this didn't work as a standalone romance.
The characters weren't very well developed in this story, but the romantic attraction was built on how they had supported and built each other up. Kat gained confidence and increased acceptance as a doctor. There was no sex or bad language.
So often novella's are quick reads meaning everything's glossed over, the characters are lightly presented. And the story itself Is expected and done before you know it.Well, this story was wonderful. This is a clean western romance with a medical bent to it. There is a wonderful young woman who is educated to be a doctor like her father And she is falling in love with a former Texas ranger. This is happens at the very beginning of the book — I'm not giving anything away.Look, if you enjoyed watching doctor Quinn medicine woman, you'll love this book.
The author managed to pack a lot of story in this novella. Romance, drama, and interesting characters. I would have given it a higher rating except for the section towards the end of the sheriff not wanting to play God and aiming for the shoulder instead. I was so disappointed by the ignorance of this section, it tainted my enjoyment of the book. If you're going to have an afterward about the importance of getting facts right about cholera, please do the same when it comes to why police have to shoot to kill.
This author writes characters and events that are more realistic and historically accurate. Love still wins, but the challenges aren't as contrived as this genre sometimes produces
High Valley Promise picks up where Kat's Law leaves off, but I can honestly say (because I have yet to have a chance to read Kat's Law) that this is a stand-alone novel. However, I do recommend reading the first one because while the story does not suffer without reading the first, you are left feeling a little like you no longer need to read Kat's Law, I still will, because I know there's more to the story than just the outcome, but since this is a series/serial the same characters are continuing on their journey.
Kat wants to be wed to the sheriff, but she is a doctor and in the wilds away from any big cities, doctors are needed. During an outbreak, her skills are tested and the man she's come to admire and rely on is off chasing his own demons. He loves her, but has his own fears that he can't measure up, not to mention the demons he faces.
I highly recommend this well-written, lovely series. I was given this book by the author in order to review it. I wasn't required to write one, either positive or negative.
High Valley Promise by Samantha St.Claire is a sequel to Kat’s Law and part of the Sawtooth Range series. We continue with the story of Dr Kat and Jonathan. I recommend reading both books as I absolutely love that both books remind me of Dr Quinn Medicine Woman. In High Valley, a new young male doctor has moved to town. Jonathan worries that he doesn’t have enough to offer Dr Kat. Kat worries that Jonathan may want her to stay at home and not be a doctor. Jonathan gets word that Wilkens might have been captured. He must go and find out for sure. He feels this will give him closure to his previous situation. While he is away, Dr Kat and the new doctor, David have an epidemic and have to keep the town from panicking while trying to save the townspeople that are sick. There is also a side story of Timothy being asked to take on an interim teacher after the previous one left town. There is also a new bakery in town. I highly recommend this series if you enjoy a clean sweet romance. Sexual content: kissing Violence: Jonathan is tracking a killer, deaths due to sickness
