He created the character Sherlock Holmes in 1887 for A Study in Scarlet, the first of four novels and fifty-six short stories about Holmes and Dr. Watson. The Sherlock Holmes stories are milestones in the field of crime fiction.
Doyle was a prolific writer. In addition to the Holmes stories, his works include fantasy and science fiction stories about Professor Challenger, and humorous stories about the Napoleonic soldier Brigadier Gerard, as well as plays, romances, poetry, non-fiction, and historical novels. One of Doyle's early short stories, "J. Habakuk Jephson's Statement" (1884), helped to popularise the mystery of the brigantine Mary Celeste, found drifting at sea with no crew member aboard.

ENGLISH: Of the 12 stories in this collection, the only one I'd previously read is "The Great Keinplatz Experiment," which also appears in Isaac Asimov's compilation of "The Birth of Science in Fiction." It is one of the first stories about soul-exchanging, a theme that lends itself to humor literature, as can be seen also in "Vice Versa" by F. Anstey, and in "Laughing gas" by P.G. Wodehouse. Edgar Rice Burroughs dealt with it in a more serious line in his Martian novel "The Master Mind of Mars," where rather than soul exchange we have brain exchange. In Conan Doyle's story, the exchange takes place between a professor and his student, with hilarious results.
Some of the stories don't fit well with the collection's title, which implies that all the stories are horror or ghost stories. The second, for example, "The Usher of Lea House School," isn't at all fantastical, as it's a fairly standard mystery story. Another one, (this one I liked more), is Cyprian Overbeck Wells, whose narrator has a dream where Daniel Defoe, Jonathan Swift, Tobias Smollett, Walter Scott and Bulwer-Lytton help him in his litterary activities by building the beginning of a novel, each of them using their own writing style. Of course, this story can hardly be considered a tale of Twilight and the Unseen. In general, I have liked less those stories dealing with spiritualism.
A curious point is the fact that the four stories in this book by Conan Doyle I liked better were published between 1885 and 1892. I liked less those he published after that date.

Freaky Doyle.
The renowned Professor von Baumgarten, a prominent chemist and physiologist, is completely enthralled with the spirit world. As years of minor experiments and accumulated knowledge go by, one day he feels he's finally prepared to perform a mesmerism experiment that will conclusively confirm its existence. To aid him is Fritz von Hartmann, an enthusiastic and hot-headed student, secretly in love with the professor's daughter, and ready to assist him in the endeavour to gain his favor, and Elise's.
I think this is the first sci-fi story I ever read by Conan Doyle. Not bad, all things considered. It was pretty interesting right up to the middle part, but sadly the developments after the experiment defied and crossed my line of disbelief, severely affecting my enjoyment of it. The ending was ok though, partly redeeming it.

Un viernes de Doyle.
El renombrado profesor von Baumgarten, destacado químico y fisiólogo, está completamente cautivado por el mundo de los espíritus. A medida que pasan años de experimentos menores y conocimientos acumulados, un día siente que finalmente está preparado para realizar un experimento de mesmerismo que confirmará de manera concluyente su existencia. Para ayudarlo está Fritz von Hartmann, un estudiante entusiasta y atolondrado, secretamente enamorado de la hija del profesor, y dispuesto a ayudarlo en el esfuerzo por ganarse su favor, y el de Elise.
Creo que esta es la primera historia de ciencia ficción que leo de Conan Doyle. No está mal, considerando todo. Fue bastante interesante hasta casi la mitad más o menos, pero lamentablemente los acontecimientos posteriores al experimento desafiaron y cruzaron mi línea de incredulidad, afectando gravemente mi satisfacción. Aunque el final estuvo bien y lo redimió, en parte.

مكنتش متوقعة انها تعجبني بس طلعت لذيذة و خفيفة اوي بجد
بتتكلم عن دكتور فالجامعة مهتم بإنو يثبت ان الروح تقدر تنفصل عن الجسد و تتواصل مع ارواح تانية قبل ما ترجع للجسد الأصلي
بس كان محتاج حد يجرب عليه التجربة لإنو مش هيعرف يجربها لوحدو فا مفيش احسن من طالب مشاغب بيحاول يتقرب منو بكل الطرق لإنو بيحب بنتو
و فعلاً الدكتور و الطالب بيخضعوا للتجربة دي سوا قدام ناس كتير و علماء جايين من كل حته بس التجربة بتمشي في مسار محدش كان عامل حسابو عليه
حقيقي رواية خفيفة كده و بجد تنفع اوي للريدينج بلوك + مفيهاش احداث كتير بس فنفس الوقت مش مملة

بالرغم من ذكاء فكرة تبادل الأرواح للاجساد إلا أن هناك نقطة وجدتها ضعيفة في القصة و غير منطقية وهي: بما أن ذاكرة كل من الطالب و البروفيسور انتقلت للجسد الجديد (وهذا غريب فكيف لم تشكل تزاحم مع ذكريات الدماغ للجسد نفسه) فكيف لم يلاحظ كل منهما المشكلة بعد الاستيقاظ؟ عندما رأت روح البروفيسور جسده وهو يتكلم بالفظائع، كيف لم يلاحظ أن هذا جسده هو، و كيف لم يلاحظ ذلك فوراً عند لقائمها الثاني في الطريق؟ قد يكون هناك سوء فهم مني أو مشكلة من الكاتب لا أعلم ..
لكن على العموم، انك يا دويل كاتب محترف ...

تجربة جديده مع العلامه فون بومجارتن التشريحي الشهير والكيميائي وعالم الفسيولوجيا
هذه التجربه الفريدة من نوعها والتي فيها يتم استخدام التنويم المغناطيسي لتهيم الروح ثم تعود الي الجسد
