Rate this book
The material contained during this work appeared many years ago in serial type within the yank Perfumer and Essential Oil Review. because of the many requests received, it's been determined to currently place before those interested, these articles in book type. whereas it's true that the works touching on the soapmaking trade are moderately plentiful, books are quite rare, however, which, in an exceedingly transient volume, can clearly define the processes used in conjunction with the required strategies of analyses from a purely sensible standpoint. within the work presented the author has tried to briefly, clearly, and totally make a case for the manufacture of soap in such language that it'd be understood by all those curious about this trade. In several cases the smaller plants realize it necessary to dispense with the services of a chemist, so it's necessary for the soapmaker to form his own tests. The tests made public, therefore, are given as easy as doable to fulfill this condition. The formulae submitted are authentic, and in several cases are currently being employed in soapmaking.

In taking over the trade for survey it's been thought fascinating to 1st mention and describe the raw materials used; second, to stipulate the processes of manufacture; third, to classify the strategies and illustrate by formulae the composition of assorted soaps in conjunction with their mode of manufacture; fourth, to enumerate the varied strategies of glycerine recovery, as well as the processes of saponification, and, fifth, to convey the foremost vital analytical strategies that are of worth to control[Pg iv] the method of manufacture and to work out the purity and fitness of the raw material stepping into it.

It is not the intention of the author to travel into nice detail during this work, nor to stipulate to any nice extent the theoretical facet of the topic, however rather to form the work as transient as doable, keeping the sensible facet of the topic before him and not going into concise descriptions of machinery as is extremely usual in works on this subject. Illustrations are simply added to indicate typical styles of machinery used.

The author needs to require this chance of thanking Messrs. L. S. Levy and E. W. Drew for the reading of proof, and Mr. C. W. Aiken of the Houchin-Aiken Co., for his aid in creating the illustrations successful, further as others who have contributed within the compiling of the formulae for varied soaps. He trusts that this work might prove of worth to those engaged in soap manufacture.

Technical

This is not a how to for soap making. This has a lot of technical information that isn't too useful for the home soap maker unless maybe you are trying to fill a 400 pound mold.
