Chris Pike grew up in the woodlands of central Texas and along the Texas Gulf Coast, fishing, hunting, hiking, camping, and dodging hurricanes and tropical storms. Chris has learned that the power of Mother Nature is daunting, from floods to category five hurricanes, to slippery ice or desert conditions. It pays to be prepared.

Currently living in Houston, Texas, Chris is married, has two grown daughters, one dog and unfortunately three overweight, demanding cats.

Chris is an avid supporter of the Second Amendment and has held a Texas concealed carry permit since 1998, with the Glock being the current gun of choice.

Chris Chandler and Amanda Hardy leave Dillon and Holly to take Amanda home to Austin. With everything seemingly running as well as can be expected post EMP at the ranch now is as good a time as any. Their journey will be anything but smooth even though it has been made easier by having the horses that Holly loaned them. All along the way danger is waiting to challenge their wit and their resolve. It is also a time for Chandler and Amanda to learn more about one another. What they learn may be more dangerous to them over time than anything else.

Pike’s third novel in The EMP Survivor Series, Unknown World: A Post Apocalyptic/Dystopian Survival Fiction Series, explores a new set of characters while expanding on the ones we already know. She does a good job of bringing in history without it distracting from the storyline. The pace is fast and makes for a quick read. Be ready for a thrill ride and gut-wrenching action.

Surprisingly to me was the breakdown in editing/proofreading in this book. Books one and two were very well done. This book had two continuity errors between book two and three. There were at least three times the wrong name was used. It was suggested to me that I had an older version. If so, this is the latest version on Amazon. Maybe, it hadn’t been updated yet?

Overall, it is a good addition to the series.

4 out of 5 stars.

Good story continues

Good story continues. I really like the characters. I'm not a big fan of the gun worship that has been getting more pronounced in each book but it's easy to overlook it. I appreciate the clean language I would like more details about how people get on with living. Question? Can someone really get hypothermia in east Texas? It doesn't get that cold down there does it? Overall I gave it a four because it kept my interest and I like the characters.

This is the third installment in the EMP Survivor series. I really enjoyed books one and two, so I was eager to dive into book three and have the story unfold further.

The focus of the story is on Amanda and Chris as they attempt to get to Amanda's aunt's house near Austin. Escorting Amanda was a promise Chris had made to Amanda's grandfather before he was killed in book two.

One nugget from the book is the expression "faith, family, and firearms.". I may not be the worshiping type, but I do love that expression.

I gave this book a 4 on 5 star rating as there were two aspects of the story that didn't sit well with me.

The first was the amount of time spent on describing things from the dog's perspective. This struck me as a bit odd and didn't really add to the story. To describe the second issue would be to include spoilers, which I don't want to do. What I can say is that I felt a bit of déjà vu from the first and second books and would have preferred something more distinct in regards to the main villain in the story.

These were issues from my perspective and didn't take too much away from my overall enjoyment of the story.

Book 3, Unknown World by Chris Pike continues where book 2 left off. Chris Chandler and Amanda Hardy are new characters from book 2 and Dillon's farm seems to be faring well after rebuilding during the last several months. Therefore, it was now time for Chandler to escort Amanda to Austin, TX - as promised - to be reunited with her family (a week-long journey by horseback).

En route, the duo continues to battle people who want to take their stuff and lose one of their horses in a fight. A new twist was their spending time at a lodge where 2 silver dollars bought them each a hot meal and bath. The food was fantastic and filling, and Amanda was just beginning her bath when strange things started happening.

They eventually reach Chandler's parents' farm and settle in when Amanda is kidnapped by a former lover. The family, with the help of locals, formulate a plan to rescue her. They are outnumbered and have to assault the tower in Austin - made famous by a sniper in the 60's. Will they succeed? Who will move on to book 4?

I did find some typos and other errors in the story, the editing on this installment wasn't quite up to par as the previous two books. Onward to #4!

Faith, Family & Firearms: an apt motto for this series if ever there were one.

Part 3 focuses mainly on Chandler and Amanda after they leave Holly's ranch and head toward her Great Aunt's in Austin. The decide to stop by Chandler's parents house first, along the way. Forced to make the trip on horseback, the drama moves at anything but a trot. A deviant ex-boyfriend from Amanda's youth is setting up his own small fiefdom, similar to what Cole's had been; only, better armed. But, before they can get there they come across an old traveler's trap, beating into Amanda the lesson that people aren't to be trusted implicitly, regardless how they appear, and especially during an apocalypse.

I love that Pike added a whole dimension to this part with all the sniper "stuff." The backstory, the rifles, the craft, and the family trade all made it that much more interesting for me. The addition of a rather infamous location, also relating to precision shooting (albeit a negative one) was an interesting touch.

Every series is as exciting as the last. Unknown World is true to form, as our everyday lives are an adventure into the unknown. Enjoyed the new series because I lived in San Antonio for 13 years and your portrayals are accurate but in an exciting new way of looking at the Austin area . Everyone this is a must series to read and keep.

Love your books but

You ended the first book with the dog just being killed. One there was no reason to kill him off two the way you did it made it seem like his life didn't matter to anyone. I almost didn't read anymore of your books. Whether you like the animal your writing about doesn't matter. You need to remember who matters without the readers you have nothing. I am one of hothouse crazy cat ladies who preaches spay/neuter with over 20 TNR'd kittens and cats. Along with 4 rescue dogs! I also happen to love snakes I wasn't thrilled it had to die but I understood it. But I don't understand why you made the dogs life of no importance!

Faith, Family and Fir...!

I believe it’s the family unit, no matter how widespread, that brings the beauty into this series. In this book even neighbours are family, especially when it comes to the crunch. The idea that people will reach out where and when they can is shown here. You also get the opposite side of that coin with greedy and manipulative people taking what doesn’t belong to them. Of course there’s plenty of gun battles and fights to the death. The question of who caused the apocalypse hasn’t yet been broached. Something to look forward to. Get ready for lots of surprises. And love.

Chris Pike does another good job with this continuing EMP story. We follow Amanda & Chandler as they head home on horseback. For the most, a believable journey home. I like the characters. The band guys are bad & the good guys are good.
The action is there. Some romance. The last scene with Chandler was terrifying. Unfortunately, the scene with Mom Chandler at the tower almost brought the book down to 3 stars. Her knife trick was too much. Everything else great.

Chris Pike continues the EMP Survivor Saga with #3 Unknown Worlds. The action continues at a fast pace, our cast of characters facing danger, strife and insidious evil as they make their way toward a better life. Old nemesis arise and continue to make life difficult, but despite all those rocks in the road, somehow they adapt and overcome. Chris Pike's character development and story plot are what keep me coming back for more. If you haven't read this series, start now.

Book Three

Pretty similar plot to books one and two. A bad guy with ties to the heroine takes over. He has other bad guys who follow his orders. I can’t mention the other similarities without a spoiler. Still it’s a well-written book with believable characters. Onto book four. I hope we get to see more of Luke.

Salivating for book 4

As indicated in reviews of books 1 and 2, the story, author's skills, story-line, characters and overall continuing story has created high interest, high expectations and confidence that the next book will be the hot topic and page-turner high quality work that the two previous books are. I love this genre, have rated a few in the 5 category and many in the 4 catagory. This author is top of the line. I even requested an email notification for book 4!!

I wsnt sure Id be able to get into it as it was written from the perspective of characters that were secondary in the first two books. However it wasn't bad. The main criticism I have is the author's habit of writing from the dogs' perspective in all three. Seems strange, kinda forced to me.

Action and suspense

It's the third book in the series and this time the action moves to the big city. Chandler and Amanda will come face to face with danger and will have to rise up to the challenges. It's entertaining and the kind of book you don't want to stop reading.

Well written series

Chris Pike is emerging as a polished author. There are a number of new authors writing dystopian novels now. Many allow the story to run away like a spooked horse. Chris holds the reins.

Excited about the continuation of the dog POV, something that to the best of my knowledge is unique to this book series. Very interesting and humanizing story.

Great continuation of the series.

Great book. Took up where 2 left off. Its a great series that doesn't get bogged down in too much technical data. Main focus is character.
