A deadly mystery draws Kitty Pryde and her fire-breathing friend Lockheed from the Astonishing X-Men to the shores of Japan. Ninjas and dragons will be the least of their worries!
Kitty Pryde goes back to Japan, ostensibly to hook up two dragons, but as this first issue ends, Kitty's past as a brainwashed ninja (from X-Men: Kitty Pryde & Wolverine) is back to haunt her.
Paul Smith art is a treat. This story being set in Japan, Smith returns to the setting of his seminal X-Men run with Chris Claremont.
That run was classic, and if this series is going to half as good then it's going to be quite good.
The one thing that taints this work and others is the C.B. Cebulski and the Akira Yoshida fiasco. Cebulski, a white man, used a Japanese-sounding pseudonym to get more jobs from Marvel. This whole affair just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. It makes it hard to enjoy this story. The story could have been good, but now, it's a cautionary tale.
