Aiden Chalmers doesn't want much out of life. The inheritance from his grandmother would be nice. After all, he was supposed to get that on his twenty-fifth birthday and that was three months ago. But his father, Alpha Chalmers of the Northern States has insisted he won't release the money until Aiden has completed a week long training camp. The youngest of six brothers and having suffered a hard upbringing, Aiden figures anything would be worth going through so he could be free of his father. It's only for a week.
Ranger doesn't like people and he especially doesn't like his latest assignment - training a bunch of wannabe alphas for some goodness only knows reason. As the top assassin for the shifter council, he's starting to think either someone wants him dead, or he's being punished for a transgression he knows nothing about. But matters take an even stranger turn, when on the very first day of training, he scents his mate.
Things were never going to be easy for Aiden and Ranger. If the training camp wasn't hard enough, a missing will, the full secret about Aiden's inheritance and the little matter of Ranger being hired to kill his mate by a council member all add to their problems. If Ranger can keep his mate alive for the week, then maybe they will have a chance at a long and happy future. But it's a big if.
This book is a complete story of 26,700 words. The epilogue does provide hints for the next book, but each of the stories in this series can be read as standalone.
There was a plot. There were 2 MC’s. There was writing. The writing lacked depth. The characters lacked depth. The plot lacked depth. Even the sex lacked depth. (That was a funny)
THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A GREAT TALE IN ANOTHER WRITER’s HANDS.
I’m glad I borrowed this one & happy to cross it off my TBR.
I really love this author (Lisa ) aka Lee Oliver. Every one is full of entertaining characters, hot MM love and twisty plots with bad guys who are totally vile, good guys who funny, sweet and deadly and a cast of great friends. Looking forward to the next book.
This is a new series by Lisa Oliver under a new pen name. She tells us these are shorter stories and are not spin-offs from her previous series in a prologue.
What I loved about this story: It’s short and satisfying, giving us a quick romance with all the fun of her previous stories without a lot of the other drama. Our MCs meet and move towards mating quickly, but in a way that makes sense given their cirucmstances. I thought Ranger was a great character with a lot of dangerous sex appeal that lept off the page. While Aiden was a bit of a push-over, he had his own inner strength that shone as well.
I also really liked the other secondary characters who we meet, and I hope we’ll get their stories as well, soon. (Especially Shadow’s!)
I didn’t fully understand the world-building – especially the part of the role the assassins played nor their role in the human world. Do humans know about shifters? I wasn’t sure. But, again, I’m hoping as the series progresses we’ll learn more about that.
All in all this was fun, sexy and just right for a short, shifter novella.
This was a kick ass start to a new series. We meet some wonderful characters that are all Alpha and some that just need a little push to be what they are meant to be. Ranger is the big bad assassin and they are a little afraid and a little horny when they see that small star. Aiden goes to training camp to get his father to release him. What happens at the camp make for some really nice twist and turns? Cam is character and can’t wait to read more about him and the mystery around him. What happens when assassin take a job and not go through with it? Highly recommend this book
I really enjoyed the first 2/3 of the book, but once Aiden met up with his father to confront him it went downhill. His father came off as a whiney little boy who really didn't care about his family much and certainly didn't care about Aiden in the slightest. His other sons weren't much better.
I did really like Ranger and Aiden as well as Cam and their other assassin friends. I liked their relationship and that Ranger was faithful to Aiden as well as very protective of him.
The book is in both MC's POV. The angst level is low/medium-ish.
What a delicious book. It got 5 stars from me. And did he put his father in his place. And he was the Alpha after all!!! And PLEASE don't make us wait for number two. I will not be able to stand it!
I like all of her books and this one is no exception. The characters are well defined. There are a couple of things you don't see coming. The story line is good. I'm looking forward to reading the next book.
Bad ass assassin Ranger and Sweet Alpha Aiden meet at a traing camp come to finds out they are true mates. Then Ranger is hired to kill him unbeknownst to the counsel member who hires him they are mates. Such a sweet story can't wait for Cam's story.
Ranger is absolute perfection, he shows his maturity throughout this story and Aiden is youthful and sweet but very intelligent. I love the combination and this story, can't wait for the next one!
This was a great read. I could not put this book down. The chemistry and development of each character was perfect. I can't wait for the next book! Automatic buy
This was a fun, quick and entertaining read. My first book by this author but I'd read more and plan to continue the series. Not a lot of angst, likable characters and a good plot. Wish it was a bit longer but I enjoyed it.
3.75 Stars Good start to this new series. Written by Lisa Oliver under the pen name Lee Oliver this delivers all you'd expect from one of her books. All of Lisa's books kind of interconnect, either by characters crossing over, mentions, and all set in the same universe just different packs, so while this story is shorter it also allows the author to start a new universe without the connections but also using the same social set ups (I.e shifter council etc) I enjoyed the characters, especially Ranger and the other assassins. I'll enjoy reading their stories as we progress through the series. The shortness of the book didn't faze me, as I think this was what I needed and I felt like the story worked in the length, I didn't feel like I was missing anything. Looking forward to the next book
4.5 stars as I wanted it to be longer and would have liked a little more world building. Other than those two issues I loved it and can't wait for the next book in the series.
The author has said that, as Lee Oliver, she's writing "short, easy to read" stories, and that's what this is. Nothing groundbreaking (or even all that compelling, to be honest, which is a bit of a shame, since the setup had a lot of potential for a meatier story). Still, Ranger and Aidan are both likable and this was a quick, light, enjoyable read. I'll read the next one when it comes out.
Ranger's End Game is enjoyable easy romance, between Aiden and Ranger. What I disliked was how fast everything happened and developed. Other than that, it was a good fast read!
