There are two major reasons why I landed on this book.
1) I found the name of the book really interesting. I would say a major reason for selection.
2) You call it the subtitle or intro line. "Master your emotions to achieve success" (another line was written on top of the book cover) was the second thing. I am a highly emotional person and most of the time my emotions are all over the place. I wanted to try this book to cope up with my emotional swings.

Coming to the content, I loved the way the book is segmented. There are total five section and each section covering its own chapters. Let me give you a gist of these sections
1) Emotions - This section covers basic questions like what emotions are, how to face them, how to control them and how to protect them.
2) Analysing people - This section covers how we can understand others and how to understand their verbal and nonverbal communication.
3) Simplicity and communication - Talks about the importance of simplicity and effective communication.
4) Happiness - This section covers meditation, spirituality. It also touches stress and depression related issues.
5) Anger issue - This section covers how to tame our biggest foe anger.
6) Happy workplace - Though I am still studying, this section explained to me how a good working environment can affect one's life.

The book is easy to read and neatly written. The book has mentions of a psychologist like Sigmund Freud, Eduard Spranger which I found really interesting as to know that whatever is written is coming from a right place. Another great thing about this book which makes it different from other psychology and self-help book is that the author has put short stories in between to make us understand the concept better.

This book can be helpful to give you emotional balance and peacefulness. The book is also helpful to channel your emotions in a positive way so you won't hurt yourself or others by the rage of emotions, and also to find peace in the stressful environment of the workplace.

The book enlightens the issue of spirituality, most of the millennials these days aren't in touch with there spirituality which makes their emotional rage go haywire, the book has some points to get in touch with your spirituality that I liked.

So all and all if you are having an emotional issue, stress problem, workplace problem or just want to read a fun self-help book than The Mind Game is the best choice.

When I read introduction I felt like this will be routine self help book. I was really great fan of self help genre. I have read plenty of them but after a while I began to feel like each one have some similar content. So while starting this I had same thoughts but it really surprised me that this one has really different content than many other books. Deep psychological concepts are well explained. That shows deep knowledge, understanding and studies of human psychology by author. I have keen interest in human psychology and have studied for it, so I love those content and its explanations. Really author has put her hard work and dedication in it. Chapters are well written and content is evenly and precisely distributed. There are few negligible printing mistakes. But really If you want to go for change from routine self help that must read this one!! I finished this one in just one sitting!!

The Mind Game by Devika Das, a self-help book. Some of them read and pass away just like that, Some of them read and think why and for what it is written like it, But only a few will think and apply in real life. And I am sure that you'll be in very few after reading it.

Have you ever thought of why do our emotions changes in microseconds and why do our emotions change are unable to control that. This is one of the multi questions that comes to me. I'm sure likewise you'll find out the answer. More than a book it's a self guide overall.

It guides to lead life in various situations from higher moments to lower moments. Happiness, sorrows, maturity, satisfaction, motivation, behaviour, attitude, stress, depression etc it discusses the various emotions and state of human mind. It is divided into six sections to make read lighter and easier with the simple English.

The sections namely,
SECTION A - Mastering your emotions
SECTION B - Simple living High Thinking
SECTION C - Analyzing People
SECTION D - Secret of true happiness
SECTION E - Manage your anger creatively SECTION F - A happy workplace the secret to a long, successful career.

I think the major success of the book is saying about, You can lead a life like this so it will be good rather than saying you must follow it, so only you have a good life and another success is making out the book for all kind of peoples and for all the ages.

The example and theories kept forward to agree with the statements which makes to read fluently and even a newbie can understand easily.

This book did not get a perfect 5 star rating from me for 2 simple reasons.
1. I do not read self-help books. This was my first and while it was a good book, reading self-help books is an acquired taste and I don't think I have the knack for it. But that is a personal limitation and is no fault of the author's.
2. Section F goes on to be way too formal and maybe it is just me and because I am young I could not fully connect or even push myself to read about the workplace and career section. Some people might like to read it.
Actual analysis:
The Mind game is a well-written and well thought out book. From her characterisation of an empath to describing anxiety and other emotional issues, Devika Das has done a damn good job of understanding emotions and writing about them in less analytical and more personal way. I loved the quotes at the beginning of chapters. they fit well with the section and well, basically, I am a sucker for good quotes.
Now, reading this book, there were a lot of things that I connected with on a personal level. Like Page 52. Reading that was like an eye-opener for me and I began to understand myself a little better. Because I do have trouble dealing with emotions, whether it be other people's or my own. Well, I will be keeping this book with me and treating it as a guide.
One thing I believe that could have been done better was elaborating on the mental diseases related to the emotional issues. Like Alexithymia. I really was curious to know more. In the end I just wanna share a quote from this book that relates a lot with the quote I have remembered and loved for a long time and seeing it in this book just brought a wave of joy.
"We don't see things as they are. We see them as we are."

The Mind Game is a self-help collection of ideas, thoughts, and evidence-based practices that a person can use and subsequently, master their emotions to achieve success.

The book is divided into six broad categories and this categorization itself is a strong asset of this book. Not only this, each section has its own set of sub-headings that can further make it easier for the readers to select, read, and apply the content. If that wasn’t a selling point, the fact that majority topics were crafted in the form of lists would certainly make one.

Five Ultra-Practical Steps to Emotional Mastery

This section opens with a general introduction about emotions and the various situations that demand our emotions to heighten. There are chapters teaching how and why to feel, face, and control our emotions. Not only is there a recount of real experiences where the need to feel, face, and control one’s emotions are necessary, but even possible actions to actually achieve this are mentioned. Furthermore, the last chapter in this section highlights the importance of EQ (Emotional Quotient) or emotional intelligence and the key skills that one might need to upgrade their EQ.

“An honest and transparent reflection of your emotional state is a better alternative to stuffing your emotions deep inside.”

Analyzing People

This was one of the most informative sections in this book as it went through a series of teachings necessary for the reader to actually ‘analyse people’. The first chapter talks about something that’s often overlooked--questions. How one can make an effective question and use the same question to their benefit, can be found here. Sine questions were talked about, responses were talked about too-- the importance of effective listening and of the response that follows in a conversation. Like I’ve already said, the content is not merely composed of facts, figures, and findings but also provides suggestions about implementation, so the last part in this chapter listed tips to be a good listener and questioner.

“Simply assuming what will be said next is the wrong approach.”

The second chapter of this section was the most interesting part of this book--unlocking personality and behavioral patterns. There’s a great mixture of both psychological and practical evidences and theories for the readers to better understand every point mentioned, and this also helps the reader to better understand themselves too while reading these points. For example, a topic in this heading talks about the type theories that differentiate between people on the basis of their psychological development and this topic worked as a propeller for me, as a reader, to identify myself among the three types of personalities listed.

Live Better with Less

I’m a huge enthusiast of simple living and ‘less is more’ is something I endorse myself so it wasn’t a surprise that I was excited to read this section. The category very smartly puts together the fundamental meaning of living a simple yet good life and also the importance of non-verbal communication so it’s a very well put together book.

“If you wish to have a good life, do not ask why life is unfair.”

Not only this, but there are also some talks about first impression and tips on how to make a winning one. The section finally ends with tips on nurturing good relationships and understanding people’s motives, two of the most essential takeaways from this section, in my opinion. Good relationships can carve a path to happiness so tips on building one were something I liked about this book.

“The Platinum Rule says, ‘Do unto others as they would have you do unto them.’ Behave with people the way you want them to behave with you.”

Go Happy, Go Lucky!

This section goes on to a deeper level in terms of mind and its connection to our betterment as it talks about spirituality and inner peace that can lead to inner bliss. I’m not highly fond of meditation (yet) so I couldn’t relate to the first chapter that laid out the power of meditation. However, I’m a spiritual person and I could find some amazing ways to gain spiritual happiness through the list of nine given under this topic.

“Abandon your want of external acceptance and approval. Be wise to judge your capabilities and worth.”

Apart from this, there are topics about stress and depression, and ultimately a quick guide for the reader to move toward eternal happiness, which I can vouch for because so many of the things mentioned were tried and tested by me and totally recommended. For example, the fourth point in this list says, "The art of giving.” and moves on to talk about how helping someone can make you much more happier than the person you just helped. In fact, the example mentioned in this point was that of a blogger and you can understand how happy and related I must have felt.

“For instance, if you’re a blogger, you can help other bloggers improve their writing style, promote their articles, encourage their views and help them grow.”

Angry? Don’t be!

This was the section I was most looking forward to since my anger is one of my negative traits and I was hoping to take something valuable from the chapters under this heading. I wasn’t disappointed! The category opens with an introduction about anger and elaborates on the various reasons that anger might have developed in a personality. This was a great opening strategy, according to me, as it helps the readers to actually make sense of why they get frequently, involuntarily angry. Then comes a chapter that lists out the ‘excuses’ that every angry person fires at people around them, and God, could this list be any more relatable?! I could tick off almost everything on it.

“Anger is a dangerous emotion...yet, being angry is accepted as a common emotion.”

The author doesn’t stop at just pinpointing the problem, she also recommends several anger management tips and creative arts that can help someone rescue themselves from this disadvantage.

“Any number of anger management tips will not have a long term effect unless the person changes his/her assumptions related to anger.”

Individual chapters talk about art, music, dance, and even writing to help combat anger issues.

“A creative journal helps you express the negative emotions in a positive manner.”

A Happy Workplace

This was the section that took away the one star from me. Though it was helpful, I felt that this category wasn’t absolutely applicable to me and my life which is the only reason why I had to go a little stringent on the rating. Anyway, for those who do work at an office or in a team, this section might prove valuable. A few things that I did find really good in this section despite my irrelevance was a particular heading ‘traits of people with high self-esteem’; self-esteem is highly beneficial for any individual and I think this book does a good job in addressing it.

“High level of self-esteem encourages persistence after we fail.”

Overall, this was a worthwhile reading experience for most parts and that’s exactly what one should be expecting from a self-help book since how ‘helpful’ the book is, is considered. The writing was too simple for my taste which can also reason for the lost star but that’s just my personal preference since I like a little heavier prose. And like I always mention in my reviews, read the book based on the review and not the rating.

As for the tagline on the book that said “master your emotions to achieve success”, I think the book does a really good job at being focused on that objective and thus, delivers according to expectations.

Thank you Devika Das and Blue Rose Publishers for providing me with a physical copy in exchange of an honest review!

The book is divided into six sections, which are further divided into various chapters of shorter lengths. The six sections are-

Section A- Mastering your emotions.

B- Simple Living... High Thinking

C- Analyzing People

D- Secret of True Happiness

E- Manage Your Anger Creatively

F- A Happy Workplace- The Secret of a Long, Successful Career.

As you can guess from the chapter names, the book is an amalgam of various elements that altogether reports to the effective working of the brain.

The author Devika Das, has used various examples and illustrations to explain her points in the book, which contributes to the simplicity of the book. This non-fiction self-help work of Devika Das is a commendable collaboration of daily life routine tips that we can use to improve the quality of our daily work as well as our personal emotions.

Another fruitful tactic Devika Das has used is to enlist all her views in points. This has made the things clear and easy to grasp for readers. Just consider the simplicity and effectiveness of her writing style, by a random prose from her book. Here's one for illustration (I'm just writing subheadings and not their respective explanation for not spoiling) -

"Listed below are some important factors to be kept in mind when you are meeting someone for the first time:

Be Punctual
Be Yourself
Dress Appropriately
Groom Yourself Properly
Sport a Smiling Face
Openness
Small Conversations
Positive Attitude
Courtesy and Attention" (Page 58)
The language is easy to connect and the chapters are easy to follow.

Like, Who will cry when you die? by Robin Sharma, and When I Fell in Love with Life by Geetha Paniker, this one's better be intaken as a couple of pages a day. This book is for everyone. The book cover and the title are meaningful and attractive.

Though the editing is up to the mark, there's a tiny forgivable typo in the facebook link given in the book on the last page.

Overall, an effective and wonderful work by Devika Das. I'd be waiting for more from her.

While there are plethora of books on personality development and self-help, I find this book to be unique. The author has named this book as Mind Game probably because, she used the mind as a metaphor to make the readers aware how our regulated or uncontrolled minds make us act against our self-interests; how much ever well-intentional we might be at the conscious level. Every body has aspirations and dreams, but how to make them come true? It is by regulating your mind. And, that is what Mind Game is all about. It is the title which precisely caught my fascination and I must say it is a worthy read. The time spent with this book read will reap huge dividends if you practice at least some of the tips shared by the author Devika Das .
This book is divided into six sections. Topics range from emotional intelligence and analyzing people to secrets of happiness and a recipe for a happy, productive workplace. Though I read lots of psychology books, in this book I find that some of the most important and intricate concepts of psychology has been explained thoroughly, and in the most lucid manner. In this way, this book becomes one of the most well-rounded books written on the development of the latent human potential written by the Indian authors.

This book is not only just rife with theories but also filled with examples. She quotes the works of credible and noteworthy psychologists such as Sigmund Freud, B.F Skinner, Eduard Spranger, Martin Seligman and Shawn Achor to name a few. I really appreciate the knowledge of the author and the pains she has taken to glean the nuggets of wisdom from various sources so that the reading audience would be immensely benefited by it.

Of all the concepts mentioned in the book, the highlight of this book is the section on Emotional Intelligence. Man is not just a thinking animal. He has emotions too. Emotions, if unregulated can hijack the rational faculty of men/women, thus landing them in trouble. Just imagine how many lives have been ruined? How many opportunities lost? How many relationships broken? And how many lives ended, just for the simple want of not able to handle the emotions properly. In that way, this book is an eye-opener. Whether one is a student, housewife, employee, entrepreneur, professional or a leader, there is a pressing need to handle the negative emotions prudently and foster the positive emotions to lead a flourishing life. The mishandling of negative emotions can lead to dissatisfied, unfulfilling lives. In that way this book is the need of the hour for youth and working professionals. Because, a great IQ may land you in a job, but to survive that job, you need to leverage on the power of EQ, and that is what this book exactly points out through various examples and interesting theories.

On a high-level, this book introduced me to the concept of emotional agnosia-the inabilty to read people’s emotions, commonly found among the schizophrenic/autistic patients. The next is Eduard Spranger’s values theory. With theories like these, this book made me introspect on my own personality and the steps I have to take to improve mine. Anybody who reads this book will have his life changed if at all he/she practices at least some of the tips given by the author in the book. Read this book and get ready to live a life true to your dreams. After all, it is only a ‘mind game’.

Our emotions play a big role in our life. According to Dr Daniel Goleman, ’emotional intelligence is defined as a set of skills or competencies, which provide human resource professionals, managers, and anyone in the world of work, with a comprehensive tool to define, measure and develop emotional skills’. Emotional intelligence can also be defined as the capacity to recognize our own feelings and those of others for motivating ourselves and managing emotions well in our social interactions.

This book about recognizing our emotions and controlling them to our advantage. The book is divided into six sections which are interrelated. Section 1, 2 and 3 deals with mastering emotions, living with less and analysing people.

What is the need to control emotions? This is essential for our wellbeing and cordial relations with others. Looking ahead, knowing ourselves, learning from others, guiding emotions etc are many tools to control emotions.

Section 4, 5 and 6 deals with being happy and not getting angry. Happiness is not only in material things but is a holistic concept. There are many things required for being happy and money is only one of them. Anger causes trouble in family and workplace. This is related with our upbringing and how we see aggressive behaviour. Saving email as draft, taking a walk, playing, talking with affection are some tools to control anger. The last section deals with workplace happiness. We spend most of our waking hours at work and happiness there is a must for productivity and peace of mind.

The book is written in clear concise language. The flow of ideas is great. In each section firstly, the problems/ issues are listed out. In later chapters the solutions are given. There are many practical tips throughout the book.

But there are some problems as well. The book becomes too theoretical at times. Sometimes the stress is on some vague ideas. There is some dichotomy too. In once chapter it is said that that all emotions are good but in sections 4 and 6 all the stress is on happiness. In section 6 all the onus of happiness of worker is on himself alone. But that is not the case. In many organizations where they are given impossible targets and paid peanuts how can one be happy. Whole section 6 is like a corporate propaganda.

Overall a very good book. 4/ 5 stars.

A brilliant piece of work!

A self improvement guide which speaks about emotional health and development and leading a powerful and stress free life.

Emotion mastery is one of those subjects which is generally taken for granted by people. But this book covers various aspects like emotional intelligence, ways of leading a simple life, effective questioning, making first impressions, anger management, etc. which will help us lead a happy life.

The book is divided into 6 sections which are further divided into small chapters for better understanding.

Section 1: Five Ultra Practical Steps to Emotional Mastery

Section 2: Analysing People

Section 3: Live Better With Less

Section 4: Go Happy, Go Lucky!

Section 5: Angry? Don't be!

Section 6: A Happy Workplace

The author has used many quotes, psychological concepts, examples to explain the points in detail. The language is simple and understandable. The way the book is written and topics are put forward is brilliant.

I am already planning to re-read this book, slowly this time. So that I can include this in my personal life.

Some of my favorite topics from this book are:

1. Feel Your Emotions (Section 1)

"Only you can change your feelings and perceptions. Materialistic things and surrounding environments may serve as momentary distractions from what you actually feel, but they cannot change the way you feel. We always carry our feelings with us."

Therefore, it is very important to feel your emotions, face them, control, protect and upgrade them. The more you try and understand what's happening on the inside, the more you will be able reflect on the outside

2. All about Anger (Section 5)

Everyone struggles with anger. Anger is a reaction to various things- people, situations, memories, personal issues, etc.

I definitely could relate to this particular chapter, as I am one of those people who gets angry soon.

I definitely recommend this book to all of you. Even if you don't love self help books, you must read this. One of those life changing books which will give you a different and honest perspective to life.

This book is unique in its own way. It comprises of 6 Sections with few chapters in each section. It talks about our day to day in great detail and how one can effectively come over their shortcomings making this life a beautiful one.

Section A - talks about mastering your emotions and as we all know it is this emotion which plays a vital role in shaping or destroying our career. Unlike others, this book not only asks you to control it but in the first place feel it. It also talks in detail about facing and protecting your emotions. You can also get to know about mastering your emotional intelligence.

Section B - talks about leading a simple life but with high thinking. This is quintessential for one's success. In this modernised world, we hardly spend time for our family and friends. This book discusses about this crucial aspect as well which is the need of the hour.

Section C - talks about analysing people. We end up with wrong friends most of the time which in turn makes us fail miserably in our ventures. This section speaks about making the first impression, effective questioning, non verbal communication and methods and techniques of analysing people.

Section D - What are the secrets of True Happiness? If you want to know about this, you need to read this section without skipping it. Why would you skip it anyway when you have the book in your hand :-)

Section E - Do you know how to manage your anger creatively? Have you ever heard about creative anger management before? Read this to know about this interesting aspect.

Section F - Have you eve wished to have a successful career? I know this is a silly question since we all desire for it. This chapter is exclusively for all who wants to make their career successful.

The book stands out from other due to the presence of Section D,E and F. Having said that, Section A,B & C are equally good as well though they might have been discussed in other books but nor for sure the last three sections which makes this book a treasure to cherish.

I got this book as a part of Goodreads Free Reads Program.

This book contains amazing details of human brain system and its processing features which tend to give a shape. This book grant every reader to dwell to understand the eclecticism of brain system as well as the output which give physical shape in appearance.

This book is divided in 6 sections elaborately. I found interesting observation cases and theories mentioned by author. Every reader would surely get adequate information and guidance after reading this book to know what actually mind game is...

The presentation format of every section is so intact and relevant. There were ample of issues discussed to make us understand in more easy way. Author has put arduous work to bring out such marvellous concept. I learned so many things and relatable to me at some point. we some times tend to be so emotional or too practical to take decisions which lead complexity in relationships, work, business etc.. Sometimes our brain become paradoxical waves of thoughts where we keep tend to fight with ourselves to get desired result.

I would like to highlight certain things which I liked the most while reading are as follows;

1. How to live simple life.
2.keeping minimal materialistic engagement.
3.To value your intend purpose .
4.Not supress your emotions.
5.Forms of anger zone, anger management skills.
6.Well research on spirituality and meditation guidance.

I would like to recommend this book to all the readers who need guidance to train and understand certain issues to approach the establishment of mind game. who are really seeking for certain answers to the unknown birth of questions relating to the mind game. This book will give fundamentals and depth of mind game understandings.

A self help book has to be written very carefully with proper research and humility and clearly the author Devika Das has outdone herself with this book.

This book was every bit of 6 segments with proper illustrations. The steps will not tell you what to do and what not to do, it will actually get you to figure out your problem and will get you to figure out how to help yourself and will guide you through.

The writing style is beautiful and easy to understand. No tough words are used to sit through the book with a dictionary beside you ;)

The cover of the book is simple but pretty shaded.

Big philosophers like Sigmund Freud has been mentioned in this book with gives more solid base to the facts and writing of this book.

Overall, I really liked and enjoyed the book. I would recommend everyone to read this book. Happy reading y'all.

Review :
A very motivational book. it deals with all the human emotions.
The line which inspired me was " unexpressed emotions will never die. They are buried alive and will come forth in uglier ways. "
This is very true. It is okay to be scared, nervous or emotional. All these emotions makes us human.
It's not just a self help book but it is more than that. it deals with every aspect of human behavior.
From mastering the emotions to winning first impressions, everything is covered in this book.
This book taught me that even the simple things can also give us the happiness.
It helps to deal with all the issues such as anger, anxiety, fear and depression.
I found this book very helpful. I do not read self help books but this book made a special place in my bookshelf.
The title is also very interesting. Every emotion we feel fear or anxiety, it's all in our mind and these emotions play a very important role in our life.
I read this book a week before my exams and it really helped me to cope with the stress. It helps us to conquer our emotions.
The book is written very well and the language is easy to understand.

Devika Das writes “The Mind Game’ to emphasize on the immense importance of emotions in our existence. Emotions drive us, emotions instigate us to take decisions and they determine the current state of our mind. Controlling and properly channelizing emotions, therefore enable us to take the rein of our lives in our own hands, and live in our terms. The book is largely subdivided into 6 parts.

1. The first part deals with “Five Ultra-Practical steps for Emotion Mastery”. In this section, the author talks about controlling and recognizing emotions and how to face them. She also discusses the importance and ways to upgrade our EQ.

2. The Second part is titled “Analysing people”. Here the author talks about effective listening and questioning, and how to unlock hidden behavioural patterns from people. She invokes the pertinence of theories like Type Theory and Psychoanalytic Theories to make her point.

3. The 3rd part speaks of minimalism and harmonic existence. The author gives tips on living a simple yet fulfilling life. Touching upon lessons on good communication and relationship maintenance, the author harps on the theme of getting along with people.

4. Here, Devika talks about happiness and types of it. She discusses the transformation of unhappiness to happiness and wittily differentiates stress, depression from sadness, as well as ways to relieve ourselves of them.

5. The 5th part is the most practical and essential of it all. Devika speaks everything about anger, ranging from its probable sources to tips for its management.

6. In the final part, various characteristic of a happy and effective workplace has been discussed. From lessons on productivity to methods of keeping employees satisfied and motivated, the author stresses upon how a positive attitude and self-esteem can construct a effective work environment.

The book serves to be a easy to follow guide in the aspects which has been discussed. Despite being quite heavy on subjective knowledge, the concepts are put forward in a way that they can be put to action instantly. Thereby, although most of the lessons are well imbibed and established, still the book becomes a quick revision opportunity to brush over known facts. The author has tried to keep her writing balanced between speaking of her own experiences and making the readers think for themselves. At points, the book felt almost like ‘old wine in a new bottle’, with the repeated regurgitation of established facts. The 6 parts were further subdivided into chapters, which in turn had many sub-points. So, in a way it became very sprawled and difficult to keep a track of. Readers will have a much better takeaway if they choose to skim through the index at first, and then jump to the parts that interest them; rather than reading the book page by page from the beginning. In all, the book is definitely worth reading if one is looking for practical relatable advice of how they can get a grip over their emotions and live a balanced life.

Book Title: The Mind Game
Author: Devika Das
Format: Paperback

Book Title:
The title of the book ' The Mind Game ' is attractive and interesting.

Book Cover:
The cover image of the book is a clip art of the human brain with the title on it. The sober color of the image soothes the mind of a reader before starting reading the book.

Inside the book:
Often in the mundane life of a human who is on a verge of his travel towards achieving goals, attaining success and adapting himself to new changes in life misses the important point of accepting the situations and control the emotions. Because of the life that runs on tips and toes, doesn't give the person time to think about himself in a very personal and spiritual manner. When the emotional quotient gets disturbed, nothing can be done to pacify the negativity he faces due to various reasons.

In this book, the author has presented her readers the way to control the emotions, play with one's own mind and control their life instead of being controlled by their brain in a very spiritual and aesthetic manner. This book definitely has to be added up in the self-help book section of every individual as the language in the book is very simple and effective.

What I like:
1. The book serves like an extensively researched comprehensive self-book that helps a reader to understand how to honor and tame emotions
2. The concepts emotional quotient, ways to attract people in a positive way, dealing with stress and anger, facing the unexpected situations bravely and lastly but not the least, the role of spirituality in one's life are illustrated in a good manner.
3. Being an example and setting an example for co-workers and descendants is very important in a person's life at a personal level and also at a social level. The tips to work in harmony and developing a habit of listening to co-workers and such things are explained well.

What I didn't like:
There are no such things as in the book to dislike.

Narration:
Self-help books often concern and confuse the readers with the leaps of information given inside the book. Here, the author has made the reading task easy by simplifying some complicated things to understand in the form of short tales. This not only creates interest but also the different approach attracts the readers of all age groups.

Language & Grammar:
A very fine and crisp language is used in the book and the short tales.

My Final Verdict:
A different type of self-help book to sooth the mind

Book Title: 4/5
Book Cover: 3/5
Inside the book: 4/5
Narration:4/5
Language & Grammar:4/5
Final Rating:4/5

Emotions are an integral part of our existence. In this world where people lead a mechanic life, they undergo a variety of emotions like fear, anxiety, stress, sad and happy. Stress and fear being the major things one finds it hard to handle and deal with. People always find it difficult to handle mostly the negative emotions and seek for a way.
Like many say everything is in the mind. Everything is in our hands. If we know how to deal with each and every feeling life becomes stress free and easy to live. And what if we find a guide on how to deal with all these? It would be awesome right?
The mind game by Devika Das is one such book that would help us to handle ourselves in each and every situation. The author has wonderfully explained to us what emotions are, how to face them, how to control them in many ways with suitable illustrations. She also tells us how to get rid of all the negativity and have a stress free happy working environment and also how to build your self esteem and raise your EQ values.
The authors writing style is reader friendly and uncomplicated. The chapters are well organised and the flow of the content is also uninterrupted. The author has done a very good job in choosing the perfect title for the book. The cover design could have been done better. The font size of the title on the cover could have smaller and designed in a more alluring way. There were no grammatical errors or typos found.
To conclude, this self help book would be of great use for both academic purpose as well as general read. Personally I found this book helpful in many situations I came across. I appreciate and thank the author for her efforts in bringing up this book.

It is said that it’s all in the mind. It is only us who can tame our minds to lead a happy and fulfilling life. The Mind Game is one such book that motivates its readers to live a successful life. It tells us in a very simplistic yet effective manner how to deal with the things that control us or hold us back (like emotions, people, anger, etc.) from moving ahead.

The mind game is a self help book but it is not at all preachy. Everything is explained in a very scientific manner with the help of several theories. I like books based on philosophy and this is one such book which is a product of a thorough research.

The author has also used various illustrations to explain her points in the book, which have added to the beauty of the book. The book is not only for people with spiritual bent of mind or for those who are seeking emotional help. This book is something that can help everyone with daily routine and chores of life. It has several tips to improve the quality of our daily work as well as our personal emotions.

The language used by in the book is lucid and easy to follow. The motivating and valuable thoughts are real gems and if followed, can be great help to deal with life in a better manner.

I loved the small quotations used by the author in the book which the read all the more interesting. The chapters are also short and crisp that contribute in holding the interest of the readers. The readers get connected with the book very easily due to the simple language.

Overall, I liked the book a lot and would recommend it to all. I would give it 4 stars on a scale of 5.

Let me talk about the things I liked about this book first:

First of all, the chapters are written in points and small paragraphs. So it's a smooth read and helps the readers to grasp the concepts better.

Second, the author mentions the problems first and then goes on to explain how we can deal with them. This, again, will help the readers acknowledge the book properly.

Third, the book follows the saying 'prevention is better than cure.' This means that the author very artfully writes (for every section/topic) about how we should first learn to prevent the situation and not crib about the cure.

Fourth, the book is filled with simple life hacks. These hacks are really practicable in life. Like maintaining eye contact while talking to taking short deep breaths when one is angry, the author covers all.

The only things that I didn't like about the book is that it's a bit boring. This is completely my own feeling because I'm not a fan of Self-help books because they never help me, but readers who are looking for this kind of a book in easy words and a basic Self-help book should definitely grab it. Also, I'd prefer if the author had included more real-life anecdotes as examples. The book lacked the interesting side to it.

'A smiling face heals the body, mind and heart'

××× BOOK REVIEW×××
THE MIND GAME By Devika Das

#Blurb: This book is a piece of work with self help cover imbibing the psychological aspects towards various concepts in our day to day life. Well, rather than being a clichéd self help book, this one have an edgy touch to it by not telling us what to do but by letting us know why we face certain emotions to the core...and then how we can deal with that.😇

I've heard a lot of good things about this book ..and after reading it ..I got to know the reason behind it. Well, psychology subject is itself very interesting but when it is combined with the solutions..it gets better.

Chapters and problems are relatable but I must say the solutions to it...is not hypothetical like other self-help books. I love chapters like,
Feel your emotions
Upgrade your EQ
Keeping it simple
Angry? Don't be! (Section)

I love the edgy cover 🙌

Well emotion is the key and a drive about everything we do! So this book tells us to conquer our emotions! Not just get detached but to acknowledge and cherish our emotions...not get trapped in it.

The writing is superb and well researched. You can tell the hard work and time given to every chapter by the author.

This creative work will definitely influence you and make you sit and think about the facts you'd read.

The Mind Game is the 2nd book written by Devika Das... All of us at some point of time have thought "what are we doing with our lives" or "why are we not happy" etc so for the answers you have to read it. It is a self help book with 6 sections involving few chapters in each section. You can relate your life with the things written in this book and feel yes this has happened with me and you will even find the solution. The way this book is written is pretty amazing, it shows the efforts and research done by the author. I liked the sayings used in the starting of every chapter. It is a must read if you want to manage your life. 4⛤ for me...thanks to author for the review copy

The distance between a problem and a solution

Review by Arvind Passey
Note: You may read more book reviews and other articles on my blog: http://www.passey.info

There is no problem without a solution lurking somewhere. It is just that we need to focus and discover it. However, between a problem and its solution is a completely wild world of desperation, stress, and feelings of incompatibility that can be exceedingly harmful. This distance between a problem and its solution has the power to initiate all the rancor that is there in life. All that matters is that one must be in a state of readiness to seek solutions. Or perish. Well, maybe that is too harsh because after all, we continue to go on treading over moments even in a shattered state… and this too can form the substrate for experiences that will invariably carry within its perimeter a new world of personalized solutions. Shannon L. Alder has written that ‘the art of being wise is the art of knowing that solutions don’t come from individuals, but rather experiences.’

The problem with experiences is that they need time to happen. This obviously isn’t something that youngsters come equipped with and the professional as well as personal environment that exists today needs people who are ready to address situations with answers. This is the sort of mind game that can disorient anyone.

The Mind Game written by Devika Das is a book that I happened to go through and I believe, this book does qualify to be the sort of guide that youngsters need. Yes, if one hobnobs with the right sort of people one can get a lot of real-time tips but this path is full of uncertainties and may not be there for anytime reference. Adults may find the book interesting for completely different reasons as they obviously have their own treasure of experiences to refer to. For those who have experiences to fall back on must understand that they come in a rather raw format and adoptable bits have to be painstakingly distilled. This book is akin to an army of multiple situations analysed and lined up in neat regiments, battalions, platoons, and sections. Clinical, if I may add.

The book begins with demystifying emotions and then glides into analyzing people. For instance, in the section on personality we have trait theories, genetic influences, type theories, psychoanalytic theories, and influencing behavior. So if you’re the kind of reader who wants to refer to classifications without getting into the complexities, you may find it interesting. We are anyway living in an age where people love to give as less time as possible to reading. In this age of instant reading, a travel article is interesting if the title says it has ‘10 reasons for visiting Bangkok’ or one on health is titled ‘Elements that define a well-defined body’. Devika Das has made sure that readers from this category aren’t disappointed and has almost all chapters full of point-wise sketches of all that matters. To give an example, the chapter on happiness has the usual ‘Ten reasons why happiness matters at the work place’. And thus the mind that is in a hurry to get the overall picture straight and doesn’t want to spend time researching and diving deep, will know them all at a glance.

Actionable tips are the forte of this book. As I have already mentioned, the author has gone into what sort of actions will help a person tide over issues that are pressing. For instance, in the part where stress and depression is discussed, the author mentions shopping, volunteering, and going through old photo albums besides recommending well-lit rooms, the purging effects of writing a diary, exercising, dips into spirituality, and even singing in the shower. There will of course be hundreds of other actions that a person can get involved with that can be stress relieving. Quite obviously, the tips mentioned are an ice-breaker for those who are looking for some direction.

I must add here that the book is definitely a treasure for those who intend to conduct workshops, write short articles on success, and for those who are anchoring talks on motivation. The book, however, isn’t going to serve much purpose if one is looking for a deeper incursion into any of these steps. Let me cite an example from the chapter that talks about verbal and non-verbal communication. This chapter has a cursory mention of body language but doesn’t explain the various ways in which the body communicates the truth. Well, the book is, at best, a starting point for readers to understand what matters and then refer to those books that explain the intricacies of whatever it is that one wants to understand fully.

The Mind Game does cover a lot of distance to finally inform the reader that ‘if you are mindful and at peace, happiness and success will always knock your doors. After all, it’s all a mind game!’
