During an Apocalypse there are no vegetarians or people with phobias. Frank had multiple issues to endure. Lessons learned...."the need to feel safe takes precedence over mercy", you can live without sanitizer and family and friends come first.
Loved book 1. Book 2 we watched Frank grow. Book 3? Looking forward to it. Jack Hunt certainty puts a new twist on apocalyptic life styles. Some of his characters are a riot. Jameson and Abner needs their own novella!
The fall of society as we know it from a different perspective; maybe those who are mentally afflicted are better prepared for societies d downfall. I enjoyed this book a lot, a definite page turner.
This series grabs the reader and keeps them reading from cover to covet without setting down! The characters are believable and unique, the story leaving the reader wanting more!
I was exhausted, excited and thrilled through reading these two books, look forward to the third book and finding out what happens to this survivors and their future!
I loved Anxiety. Mr. Hunt this was a great second in the series. We get to see our characters deal with human depravity and how it affects them. Mr. Hunt us not also afraid to sacrifice people in the good group. Too many authors only kill off smaller characters so it definitely left an impression. Thank you for a wonderful escape on a Saturday afternoon!
A continuation of the main character acting unrealistically saintly in an apocalyptic scenario. Too often it was frustrating to read how a main character could have resolved a huge problem but instead made a very impractical and silly decision that leads to excessive drama. This is the only way the book progressed; via bad decisions.
Considering that the main character was ex-special forces, and the admission that he had killed, makes his total avoidance of acting practical during an apocolypse was dumb. Very little was credible in this book. If he would have reacted realistically, this book would have been much shorter and the main character would have been able to have a much less dramatic life. I'm not too much of a fan of reading about bad situations people put themselves into.
I enjoyed both of the first two Agoura Virus books. I would thoroughly appreciate better editing, however. Grammar and syntax leave something to be desired. I was distracted enough by this that I probably won't be reading the rest of the series. It's clear that the author is not a native American English speaker. I imagine he might be British, based on word choice. "Meant to" vs "supposed to", etc. Sorry to be picky, but it detracted from the storyline for me, trying to picture the characters speaking with/without the accent to back up the word choice. I enjoyed the fast pace, the new characters, and the prepper factor. I would have liked a more detailed climax, and possibly a better hook to lead into the next book. Could have kept me reading with a bit more anticipation.
This review is for the full series audiobook- The Agora Virus a collection of 3 eBooks by Jack Hunt: Phobia, Anxiety and Strain. These stories follow the journey of germaphobe Frank Talbot, his college-aged daughter Ella and his ex-wife Kate (a CDC epidemiologist.) a lethal flu virus is ravaging the population and tipping the world into chaos. No one is safe and Frank has to face his greatest fears to get his family to safety. The only hope of survival is his cottage on one of the isolated islands in the St. Lawrence River but dangers come in all forms and what Frank is quickly learning, is the human filth is much deadlier than his fears of sickness. A deadly pandemic story to listen to during Lockdown during a global pandemic. Absolutely loved this book, follows several POV's and Adam Verner has done a fantastic job at narration.
Main character goes from someone that you might get one over on to no you can't torture and kill someone that has broken into your home and tried to steal from you, and comes from a large hostile clan of folks. Double standard much?I Guess it's okay for him to do what it takes to defend his own, but others must still follow the rule of law during a pandemic. He's supposed to be a marine that has seen combat. So this seemingly sudden change in attitude strikes me as a way to just up your word count. In a disaster situation you deal with hostile people by putting them down. Not constantly giving them a chance to screw you over again. I'm kinda of two minds about recommending this book to anybody due to the above. Read and see if you agree.
This book was characterised by one dumb decision after another. Silly arguments and brainless behaviour all around. They are all so self absorbed it is ridiculous.
No one really thought things through. They rushed like amateurs into every situation. They ran from the bad guys and wanted to get a “different” solution than to kill, proclaiming to don’t loose their humanity. But constantly murder the good guys without deep reasoning and consequences between each other when that happens. So no, not a good concept.
My complaints from later in the first book came back with a vengeance. I reached a point where I could no longer listen to it. Every decision was terrible, every rationale was illogical, and he no longer had any of the pragmatism or spine the character we started the series with had. This felt like forced drama on the part of the author. I can only take so much dumb shit and overtly asinine decisions in a row before it's too irritating to read any more.
Not sure I can separate this book from the other two as I read it a month or so ago. To my mind, all three books were similar though. It is a moderately entertaining post-epidemic story. I enjoyed it but I think the writing was fairly unimaginative, perhaps too much simple dialogue and not enough description for my liking.
The actions of Frank against the people preventing him from reaching his daughter and/or the group that robbed his house, tried killing him and all those living on the island were well thought out and kept Book 2 moving right along. Never a dull moment. Great j o b. Looking forward to Book 3. Thank you.
I expect a good read when I choose a Jack Hunt book. In book 2, Frank and his crew manage to secure items necessary for things to come while also deepening the rift with Butch. Things come to a head and much is lost. New arrangements need to be made leaving me to wonder how Sal will care.
I really enjoy Jack Hunt's writing. It seems so effortless as it simply flows while enabling me to create vivid mind pictures while reading. I love the characters he creates as well. These stories have everything a book needs to be great and I am enjoying this series as much as The Renegades series. I think it's safe to just go ahead and get any Jack Hunt book you run across.....I have not been disappointed in any work of his I've read.
This book totally rocked! Filled with action. Very sad at some of the events that took place, but will not mention what as to not spoil what's to come. Great book 2!
This was better than, the first. Love the characters and the fight for their lives seems like you are living it. Great story and character development. Time for book 3.
It was entertaining and built suspense well, more like a novella, but worth a read. One characters transformation from ocd to goat is a lottlw far fetched.
