"Engaging read and didn't end at all like I expected... beautifully raw and real and I loved that." - Crystal Paine, The Money Saving Mom
Shrapnel hits all of our lives. What the wounds teach us make the scars worthwhile.
Two women form an unlikely bond through the parallels they face: the cold beds they no longer share with their husbands, the facades they construct, and the tragedies rising around them.
Elle Holloway's husband has walked out on her and left her to divvy up emotions like property in a divorce. Jocelyn Turner is an army wife and mother, barely surviving when she receives tragic news that her husband has been injured. The two women, who have never met, are thrown together through a misunderstood gift and an insomnia-induced cyber friendship.
Touching and captivating, Shrapnel is a tale of family, friendship, and the courage that comes from both.
Order now to start the journey with Elle and Jocelyn as they find honesty and support within friendships they didn't expect.
Jessica has written for as long as she can remember. Her first book about a teenage rock band was complete when she was 15 but corrupted on a floppy disk. The addiction to writing never subsided, even though the environment where the inspiration happens certainly changed. She now writes while being a short order cook, taxi driver, homeschool mom, cheerleader and anything else her family of six needs. Her love of books and coffee runs deep. Jessica lives in Texas with her husband and four children.
I cannot say enough about this book! I fell in love from the beginning. I was instantly connected to both characters. There are so many life lessons to be learned from this book. I have never been so enthralled. The author does an incredible job at drawing you into the lives of those involved and keeps you yearning for more. I have and will continue to recommend this book to everyone I know!
Wow, wow, wow. That’s what I was thinking when I finished this book. I fell in love with Shrapnel from the first page. I couldn't put it down. Shrapnel is a beautiful story about two women who are very different from each other and lead very different lives. One thing I loved about this book was the characters and their development. Another thing I loved about the book was emotions are such a big part the story.
For me the best part of this story was the interaction between Elle and Jocelyn. Being nothing alike and having never met they form a very unlikely, likable, friendship.
I can't praise this book enough.
I won a copy of this book in a giveaway sponsored by The author or publisher, the opinions are my own.
This is a heart rending novel about love, loss and redemption. Two woman come to know one another through a twist of fate and share their struggles and difficulties as they traverse through a tumultuous time in both of their lives. Keep a box of tissues handy!
I must start this review stating that I am not a fiction reader, I would rather dig in to a self-help book but Jessica Shook's last book Jade Can't Be Blue was too good to not read this one. First, I love how the chapters are divided up by the character. It keeps things from getting confusing but also requires you to read the next chapter to get back to the story from the previous chapter. I related so closely to Jocelyn, how she loves her husband and her child. I believe when an author can make the reader relate to a character like I did with Jocelyn, it makes it a book worth reading and (over) sharing. Jessica ties tragedy to every character, it is how we handle the tragedy and heal that determines how we grow. After reading this book, I have a different viewpoint of tragedy and how I choose to react. I consider fiction as an escape from my reality, but this fiction novel changed my heart more than a self-help book would. My children are more precious, my husband is more of a treasure, and my friends and family are more appreciated. I hurt alongside the character, I hugged my husband extra tightly, I sent messages to my friends who have spouses in the military, and I cried so much. I am not an author so it makes writing this review even more difficult, I cannot physically put into words how amazing this book is and all I learned from Elle and Jocelyn's story. Jessica did not leave one stone unturned, not one storyline empty. Shrapnel is a must read, and I mean a must read NOW.
This book...all the feels! And just when you think you have it figured out, it takes another turn.
I loved the chapters switching from each woman's perspective - each unique and with their own strong voices.
And the story...so beautiful! I'm not a fan of military or even military spouse stories usually, but this was so much more. This was about the relationship of two women with seemingly nothing in common who need each other more than ever.
I highly reccomend this page turner that takes your heart and attention with you at each twist.
Well it took me a while to finish this book but I truly loved it! I fell inloved by all the charaters. This book made me smile and made me cry (a lot). Thank you to present us with such an amazing story.
This gem is definitely one of my top 3 favorite reads this year! It’s about love, loss, sacrifice, lessons learned and redemption. I’m an army wife and could certainly relate to one of the main characters. This book kept my attention and was a page turner, for sure! There were times when I wanted to jump in and defend a character, other times I found myself laughing or crying. Anyone could read this and learn something that can be applied to their own life. I can’t wait to read Jade Can’t Be Blue!
4.25 - I met this author at a signing and was drawn to this book. I had no idea how sad this story is, but it was a beautiful tale of internet friends who help each other out. Very inspiring and beautifully writen
