My all-time favourite book from my childhood. My original was 'misplaced' sometime after I left home (it was also greatly loved by my niece and nephews) so I decided to search for a replacement copy, and happily paid $42 for a second hand paperback.

I used to adore these stories of the naughty heroine! Borrowed her countless times from the library and re-read them all.

July 15, 2026I loved the Mary Plain books as a child, particularly because of Richard Wattis reading them on Jackanory. I actually believed he was the Owl Man. I didn’t realise they pre-date Paddington by 30 years. They seem so archaic and slightly creepy today.
