**Disclaimer: If you've read this author's SEALs of Honor series, you'll recognize Levi's name, as well as those of his friends and teammates. Levi and his unit were injured in a previous book due to a betrayal by someone they trusted. They have since left the Navy due to their injuries and Levi opened Legendary Security.**

Levi and Ice have been together for years, both professionally and personally, though when Levi was injured, he pushed her away. It's not that he stopped loving her, Ice is the woman for him, the love of his life, but due to the areas some of his wounds are located, he struggles with whether or not he can give Ice everything she wants...a family. Though he'd been hesitant before his injuries due to his fears of turning into his own Dad, his insecurities about being less than he once was have taken a toll on him.

The problem with owning a company where your estranged girlfriend works is seeing her every day, craving her and not knowing how to fix what went wrong. Their friends and co-workers know Levi and Ice belong together and hope they can work through their issues. But as they have a business to run, and for Levi, revenge in mind against the man behind the betrayal, their reconciliation may not be as easy as they'd hoped.

For Ice, she knows Levi is the love of her life and has always envisioned a future with him. Yes, she'd like children, but as long as she has Levi, that's truly all she needs. But when he pushes her away, insinuates that Bullard, a friend and colleague of theirs, may be the better man for her, Ice is quickly reaching the end of her patience. She knows she and Levi need to talk and see if they can work through what happened. If not, she has to protect herself and move on. She can't live in the compound with him and the others and not truly be by his side.

Will Levi and Ice bare their hearts? Can they work through the barriers keeping them apart? Will Levi realize he should've talked to Ice instead of making the decision on his own that she was better off without him and pushing her away? What happens when Bullard visits to assist the team and his affection for Ice is obvious? Will Levi let her go? Is his revenge more important than Ice? Or will he fight for Ice and the future they deserve?

One-click now and follow along as two people, knowing they belong together since the day they met, fight to find their way back to one another and return stronger than ever. On a side note, I love that even though Levi and Ice were dealing with some things in their relationship, neither wanted nor ever even considered being with anyone else. Since the day they met, years ago, everyone else ceased to exist for them. They have always been true to their love and loyal to one another.

Feels like you’re coming into the middle of the story. It’s all bit muddled and the bad guys seem to be succeeding way too often if the good guys are supposed to be such a successful team. I hope the next story can build on this one and will feel more cohesive.

Technically this is the first book in a new series by Dale Mayer. However, if you've read her previous SEAL series, then you will recognize the characters from those books. These books are centered on members of the SEAL team that have left the military and are now out on their own with a private security company. And if this book is anything to judge the series by, then there is just as much action now that the men have left the military as there was in the other series! Plus plenty of opportunities to catch up with former heroes as they join into current missions. And truth be told, this is my favorite of all of the Dale Mayer SEALs books yet! Plenty of action with a side of romantic tension as Ice, Levi and the former SEALs went after the men responsible for their disastrous final mission as SEALs. However, it soon becomes apparent that their target is now targeting them instead.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this novel.

TITLE OF BOOK: LEVI’S LEGEND/HEROES FOR HIRE BOOK 1
AUTHOR OF BOOK: DALE MAYER
DATE READ: MARCH 18, 2017 - MARCH 20, 2017

WILL LEVI AND ICE WORK OUT THEIR DIFFERENCES, OR WILL ICE LEAVE WITH BULLARD?

Dale Mayer is a genius with her Seals. She knows how to write about her Seals and make you live with them. She draws you in and keeps you living with them. You get so absorbed in the storyline that you do not want to put it down. Plus, you are so wanting to be in the story so that you can help the characters with their battles. You do not want to miss any of her books. “Levi’s Legend” is the first book in her Heroes for Hire series and boy is it a doozy…you do not want to miss it. You have two ex-Seals vying for same woman, an enemy that won’t die, mystery, intrigue, and a plot for revenge. What more could you ask for in a book?

Levi and Ice leave the Seals at the same time. Levi started his own company and Ice followed him. Ice is a helicopter pilot but she is in love with Levi, and yet they are living in separate rooms. Levi has been drawn since his accident to find the man responsible for it, and this man wants Levi dead as much as Levi wants him dead. Now it seems that this man is determined to finish Levi off once and for all. Levi brings in Bullard which is a friend to both him and Ice, to help him and Ice set up the compound so that it will safer for them and the rest of their team. The only problem is Bullard wants Ice. But Levi loves Ice and is trying to fix things with her, but his best laid plans are thwarted with attacks on the compound and trying to keep everyone safe. Can Levi make things right with Ice? Will Levi be able to take out his enemy and keep everyone safe?

Ice has been with Levi through everything and now she is with him on his new journey. She has always been the helicopter pilot that pulls him out of his missions. But now her relationship with Levi is hanging in the balance and it is reaching the point of no return. She loves Levi but their relationship is on thin ICE and Bullard will step in and take Ice, she only has to give him the word. But her heart wants Levi. Bullard is a good friend and is she willing to leave with him if she and Levi can’t work things out? What will it take to finally make her happy? Bullard or Levi? Or will their enemy destroy them all?

No Spoilers. Advanced Reader Copy read voluntarily and loved!!!!!!

I was given an ARC of this story in exchange for my honest review.

This was definitely an interesting story. Levi and Ice had a relationship while still in the military, but sort of broke it off over his unwillingness to have a family (he has reasons, but we don't learn about them for a while). But they're still working together, now post-military, in a paramilitary organization that Levi has created. Much of this story revolves around Levi's need to wield revenge against the man, Rodriguez, responsible for betraying his unit and injuring several of his men. Coincidentally, Rodriguez is also wanted by another organization (represented by another former military officer) for attempting to set up a terrorist cell a town over from where Levi has set up shop. Since Levi's outfit is relatively new, their security isn't at its best, which turns out to be an issue, since Rodriguez knows Levi is there. So this story is about Levi and his team trying to find evidence of a terrorist cell while fending off various attacks on their compound, and all the while, Levi is lamenting his lost relationship with Ice (and vice versa). Eventually Levi and Ice work through their issues, right about the time Rodriguez makes his final play on the team.

There was lots going on, including introducing a bunch of characters, but that's normal for a first-in-series. The story was fast-moving and interesting, and the characters were interesting enough for me to want to continue the series. Lots of guys on this team to pair up, and they picked up an extra girl in this one (Ice was previously the only female in the compound) who will most definitely play a part in a future pairing.

*voluntarily and honestly reviewed the ARC I received from Maxwell Author Services*

Levi!!! It's been a long time coming for his story to finally grace this world's presence XD While Heroes for Hire is a series in itself, it's also a spin-off of sorts from the author's SEALs of Honor, which is where I first met Levi. Unlike a lot of the other guys, this story was a little more special to me because Levi's story deals with a girl he's always had. Rather than meeting and falling, he has met her, and fallen, and fallen again. They were that couple that wasn't together but 'was together'.

The military aspect of the book was pretty interesting, action filled and pretty suspenseful in some instances. My favorite parts were when the romance came up and the drama (the nice and clean kind of drama though) would make or break a scene. I liked the writing style, the flow, and the ending. Recommended read if you like what these ex-military people are up to.

Ms. Mayer has done it again with anther great series involving characters you have come to love. Levi and his team were betrayed and wounded on their last mission, now they have a security firm in the private sector. While they struggle to get back to something normal a new threat has risen and brings the man that betrayed them closer to their vengeance. Ice and Levi are both stubborn, neither of them is taking the jump to push their relationship back to what it was, causing tension and the chance of losing each other. I love how this author crosses her other "SEAL"series with her new one making the storyline come to life and adding a realistic feeling. The characters seem to jump off the page feeling like old friends instead of make believe and the storyline pulls you into their world from the first page. Action, suspense, drama, mystery and a bond that can not be broken pulls this team together creating an exciting story that leaves you wanting more.
I volunteered to read this story for my honest opinion.

What a great start to a new series by Dale Mayer, Heroes for Hire. A story of a group of Seal's who are now running a private security firm led by Levi who had been injured after being betrayed by one of their own. He's out for closure now and hunting the man who did this. Ice had been a pilot and involved with Levi, before his injuries they had an argument and after he was all healed she joined him in the start up of the company but not being intimate since the argument. They both love each other but don't know where they stand with each other, never talking about what they are but knowing that their hearts belong with each other.
When an incident happens the walls come tumbling down and they are finally able to talk about their past, present and future.
I really enjoyed the beginning of a great series, introducing each character and even mentioning a few from the other series, Seals of Honor. But I also enjoyed the two, Levi and Ice, he was open and honest and even though he had his doubts about keeping Ice with him, he finally came to the right conclusion. Ice is a strong female but is also vulnerable and kind, not letting herself get hard and feeling sympathy when others get hurt or killed.
A book with action, some suspense and a love that never died.

I expected a good suspense book with enough romance in it, and that’s what I got, and I LOVE it!

This is the first book of a new series called Heroes for Hire. A spin-off of SEALs of Honor I think, as characters in this book were seen in SEALs of Honor series and vice versa. I think I liked this book more than her original SEALs of Honor series. This book felt more fast-paced, and more captivating.

Levi was an alpha male, with regrets, and stubbornness that made me want to slap him. Haha. But I wanted to cuddle him too, he’s so vulnerable and insecure inside. He’s so in love with Ice, it broke my heart with their struggles. Ice herself was the epitome of a bad-ass girl. She had all good quality of a great heroine, and there’s not a thing I didn’t like about her. Well, I think I love this book because I loved the heroine so much, aside from the good story of course.

Well, I’m really looking forward to the next book…

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. I was not compensated for my review, and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed here is my own.

I had met Levi before, and was curious about what would happen next. But, boy!, did he drag himself. What is it with these guys, that need to almost loose everything to value them? And Ice was fenomenal, his true match indeed. However, at some point, I felt the book drag. I mean, the bad guys were everywhere doing everything better than the good guys. For that, we have real life lol. All in all, I did enjoy it and can't wait for the next one.

Whether you are fairly new to Ms Mayer’s books, like I am, or a long time fan, this is a book you will enjoy.
This is a new series with some of the characters from previous books are in it as well. The series is based around the ex-Seals who have formed of a security company.
The story centers around Levi and Ice, a former Navy pilot and the gal he loves. Both are strong characters inside and out , but also good hearted.
Interaction between them is well written.
If you like action, suspense, and romance, as well as hunky Seals, you will not be disappointed.
I was gifted this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

Levi and his team were set up on his last mission. He has been searching for those involved in injuring him and his team and leaving them no option but to leave being a Seal. He and Ice have set up a private security firm with his team in place. Since being injured he and Ice's relationship has fizzled and they are in a stalemate. Ice wants a family and Levi is bent on retribution for those that betrayed him and his team. While he hunts for the man responsible he comes to realize two things he and his team are being hunted by the man he is looking for and if he doesn't do something soon he will lose Ice.

Levi's Legend is another amazing book by Dale Mayer. She has done it again. I love the new series and it picks up from the Seal's Series. I love it. I love that Levi and Ice are working together. I love that the injured Seals from the Seals Series have been able to get it together and have a life after injuries and love as well. It is great to be able to see thru their eyes. I am ready for Stone's Surrender and then Merks book. I know they will be just as great.

I was so excited when the author released that she would in fact be doing a spin-off series of the Seals of Honor titled Heroes for Hire. Ever since meeting Levi, Ice, Stone, Merk and Rhodes in Evan's book I immediately fell in love with all of them, and hoped she would write their stories. Levi is the leader of this group of elite retired soldiers who have formed their own business and Ice is love interest. She is a former Navy pilot and by far one of the baddest ladies written and I mean that with sheer admiration. She's an ace pilot, a great shot with a gun, tough as nails, smart as hell, fierce as all get out and keep calm under literal fire. She's also got a big heart, so what's not to love about this character. Levi is all the above, but also to stubborn for his own good at times. The story is excellent. From the moment I started reading, I couldn't put it down and even though it has a HEA, I wanted more and cant wait for the next book as I know it will be just as good. I volunteered to read this book.

This new series differs from the SEALs of Honor series in that these seals have retired and formed a private security firm. These characters are recognizable from past books, but with a story-line that is uniquely theirs. Ice is a strong, yet vulnerable, female character that is more than a match for Alpha male Levi. I enjoyed learning more about these characters in this book that has suspense and twists. I look forward to reading more!

>Book review - Levi's Legend

>I am an independent reviewer. This book is the first in the Heroes for Hire series and ends in an HEA. This story revisits Ice and Levi. Instead of coming upon them in their HEA, they are confusingly still close, but no longer intimate. As Ice and Logan decide if their relationship can be salvaged, old rivals come back for revenge and maybe to steal away Ice.

>There is a ton of action in this story. Some of the action is described as through a video feed, which is interestingly a unique way to show action. All of the men are alpha and the new secretary, Sienna is going to be a future love interest for sure. Each man is described enough to care about. I cannot wait for future books about them all.

>This book is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving this story 5 stars. The story has romance and action, with plenty more to come.

A final chance to fix things…

This is the first book in the Heroes for Hire series with characters carrying over from the SEAL’s of Honor series. You don’t have to have read the prior series but it adds insight into the characters if you have.

A SEAL team was betrayed and many were injured. After healing from their wounds, Levi and his remaining men left government service to set up their own private security company in Texas. He’s determined to extract vengeance against the two men who betrayed them. A contracted mission to Mexico brings one of those men into his sights leaving just one. But his enemy has not forgotten him either and plans to finish what he started. Who will extinguish the other first? Recent intelligence says their target is in the immediate area with terrorist cell connections here and across the border. Are Levi and his men who are still settling in ready to take him on? The choice might not be theirs.

Levi and Ice, the helicopter pilot who often rescued his team, love each other but their relationship has been off kilter since he was injured. Ice followed Levi to the private sector but they haven’t returned to what they once were due to a serious disagreement about what their future might hold. Both are strong individuals, very stubborn and unhappily stuck in limbo, waiting it seems for the other to make a move and everyone around them senses it. Each realize the need to address the status of their relationship but with constant dangerous happenings good timing is not something they seem be allowed to try to. Ice never hesitated to follow Levi but will she continue to stay with things so awkward between them?

Having read the previous series this reader was much intrigued with the characters of Levi and Ice, their scenes were always compelling so it was great to finally get to read their story which occurs amid a lot of action and suspense that doesn’t overpower what is going on with them just enhances it. This was a great suspenseful start to this new series. This book contains the set-up for the rest of the series as these men establish security both physical and electronic for their base of operations and research everything they will need going forward. One thing that was odd was that neither Levi nor Ice have surnames and Ice is the heroine’s nickname but we aren’t given her real first name. This reader wondered what it might be or if we had learned it in the prior series.

An advanced reading copy was obtained from the author.

Major plot spoilers ahead. Read at your own risk.

I was super duper disappointed about this one especially after reading Levi’s brother Aaron just before this. Heck, the reason I wanted to read this story immediately was because of Aaron’s book, which so impressed me so much more that I come to really adore it. I thought that the same vibes that I got while reading that story I would get with this story, but I didn’t not even close. I was expecting so much more than I got.

Yes, there was a lot of things going on within the context of the story, but honestly a lot of it bored me. It got so repetitive with everything going on. I felt like I was on one giant loop of the same thing over again. That just took over the story and sidelined the romance between Ice and Levi. I get that this was meant to be romantic suspense novel, but it was too much suspense not enough romance. There needed to be a balance between the two, or otherwise just label this a suspense story with some romance in it. I find it very misleading when they romance books romantic suspense and there’s very little romance. It happens a lot in this genre, which is why I tend to stray away from romantic suspense storylines. What I want is balance between the two not one instead of the other. All that was going on in this story, I just didn’t care especially all the times that they were attacked and people were injured. That took up such a great portion of the book. It just to be a little too much at times. It was basically the crux of the story, which wasn’t what I wanted.

There were a lot of characters in this book. It was hard to remember what unit people belonged to. Like when certain teams would come to the compound to help out in this threat that was against Levi and his team. Names would just start popping up all over the place and was really hard to keep track at time especially when trying to figure out who was out commission and just who was who on what mission. It just got to be a little much. I didn’t think was necessary to have all the name dropping going on aside from the main players. It got a little overwhelming at times.

There was a small bit of romance, but not enough for my liking. In fact, Ice and Levi spent very little page time together. When they were together though, I enjoyed it. I wanted more of it. Mor conversations, more intimacy, and just more togetherness. A lot of it was the outside stuff taking over and away from them as a couple. I get they were broken up and dealing with their issues especially after Levi was injured, but I feel like they needed to spend more time together and talking, instead of them having the same internal monologues with themselves over and over again. I wanted to shake them because I knew they were each other’s one and only and deeply in love. I get that what the conflict between them, but I just wasn’t a fan of it. I feared that things would resolve relatively quickly and they would just end up in bed together. That was what exactly happened. Yes, they had a few conversations about things, but not enough in my opinion especially when they kept getting interrupted whenever they had a moment together. I just wanted them to have more page time together then they got aside from the bedroom scene, which seemed to be the longest they spent together in the story. I wanted something beyond that.

The love scene was really good though. It was the most intimate moment that they had in the entirety of the book and not just for obvious reasons. This was the first time they saw each other exposed in every way possible. It was the first time Ice saw Levi’s scars after his injuries and coming to realize how close she could have lost him. The tender way she kissed those scars and over him was just really sweet and loving. Why wasn’t more of that in the book aside from the whole other storyline that took away from them? This was what more needed to happen for me to be satisfied with the story.

Also I know this book came first in publication order, but it kind surprised me that there was no mention of Levi’s brother Aaron. It wasn’t mentioned that he had a brother. Granted they were dealing with a lot in the grand scheme of things, but I would think there would be something in here about Aaron. It would also explain Levi’s psyche better and why he reacted the way he did sometimes with Ice. That’s really important in his emotional storyline that barely touched the surface. I just realized this that they didn’t mention Dani either, who was supposedly Levi’s best friend. That would be another huge part of his character that wasn’t even touched on. In fact a lot of his emotional storyline aside from the stuff with Ice wasn’t touched on, which was a shame because it could have added so much to the storyline.

I was very disappointed with this story I’m afraid. I was expecting it a lot more than I got especially with the love story between Levi and Ice. My problem think was that I read Aaron’s book right before this one that I came to love and adore so much more than I ever thought I was going to. I hate to say it but I was comparing this book heavily to Aaron’s book. I know was different type of story, but I just got completely different vibes from each of the story. Aaron’s book was a whole lot more satisfying even though the romance was very light. With Aaron’s book’s it was very much about healing and personal growth, and not outside stuff that was going on around him. Yes, he wasn’t in immediate danger like Levi was, but I just felt like a more personal and relatable story. I liked seeing Aaron’s growth and healing with his love interest Dani being big part of that. I liked seeing that journey they made as a couple as well as individuals. It was really sweet and lovely. It warmed my heart. In Levi’s book, it was just everything else being hit on all angles. Yeah, there was personal growth for Levi as well, but the focus wasn’t there due to all these threats coming the compounds way. That just took away from everything else including the romance. It wasn’t as personal of a journey. Things kept happening that they had to deal with, understandably, but just took away so much from the intimate journey of Levi and Ice getting back together again. There wasn’t a lot of time for them. When books are labeled a romance, I think that the romance should be a priority and everything else take a backseat not the not the other way around, which was how I felt about this one. I didn’t consider this a romance. They were in love and had to overcome some obstacles granted, but there was too much focus on the suspense storyline than the romance. I hated that. After awhile it felt like the romance rushed its conclusion because there was so much other stuff to contend with that it didn’t have time to do it justice. I think that Levi and Ice were done a disservice because of that. I think their story could have been gut wrenching and powerful and just really emotional as they overcame their issues, but it was just flat. I wanted so much more because they deserved more. It wasn’t all bad, and the highlight was Ice and Levi together, but there was just so far and in between. It just wasn’t enough for me.

**ARC RECEIVED IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW**

Very intriguing read. These are trained ex-SEALs, yet they were made to look so incompetent basically throughout the entire book. I didn't expect them to be super perfect soldiers but they didn't really resemble the capable military people they were trained to be, what with Rodriguez and his people always getting the upper hand. It was ridiculous, almost comically so.

Levi and Ice, while they were really interesting while in combat mode, they really did lack any kind of heat, any kind of chemistry. They were both repetitive and quite dull with their romance, very stubborn as well. I feel like they were both too freaking old to be walking around on eggshells around each other and Ice was very petty when throwing Bullard in Levi's face. I feel like she was using the both of them, while she was supposedly in love with Levi, she totally kept Bullard on the back burner...just in case....her Plan B. That was just so high school, I mean really?

Overall as far as action and mystery goes, it was a very good read. When it came to the romance...eh..not so much but had the potential to be so much better.

Interesting

A romance on hold and a twisted tale of revenge from both parties. This story starts a series where SEALs have started a security business and are on the hunt to the man who originally betrayed them and caused their injuries. Part of the team is ICE who was not a SEAL but was their helicopter pilot and is in love with their leader

The romance is on hold as they had a huge fight before the injury and now can’t get back to where they were. Enter another SEAK who also likes IcE. In the romantic suspense is also a case where the team wants revenge on the man who betrayed them and that man wants revenge on the SEAls for coming after him.

Lots of action and interesting characters. At times more wordy about the stuck relationship then needed, but still a good premise for a series and a fun start to the series.

Levi's Legend (Hero's For Hire Book 1)

This is the first book in a new series which is a spin off of Seals of Honor, by this author. I was so excited to read this first book which left me panting and waiting for the next ones to be published.

The characters are easily recognized from the previous series but this one continues with their lives in the private sector since Levi and Ice along with other investors have started a security firm.

Levi has been methodical in taking down the men who set him and his team up for ambush on a mission gone bad in Mexico, one is left, Rodriguez and Levi has gotten word that he has set up a team in the small town very close to the compound where Levi, Ice and the men working with them are. Levi, Ice, Stone, Merck and Rhodes are a hard to keep down bunch of retired Navy Seals.

As the story opens Levi and some of his crew are in need of a lift out of harms way, it was once again Ice flew the old refurbished Blackhawk in and landed softly on a hill to pick up the unit. Ice had never let anyone else pick Levi up and today was no different although she was so furious with him he wasn't absolutely sure she would be there but here she was. His heart warmed at the sight of her profile and hope bloomed inside him.

This book is filled with action, mystery, terrorists, some broken dreams to be worked out but still a group that is a kick butt team and unbeatable, even though it seems the enemy knows as much about Levi and his team as they know about him.

If you have read Dale Mayer's Seals of Honor series then this new series is a must read for you.

I gave this book 5 shiny gold stars because I feel it deserves them. I always enjoy reading military action books by Dale Mayer and I think you will as well.
I am excited to read the next book in this series and see what Sienna's part in this series will be.

The first book in the Heroes for hire series.
These men and woman have been through a lot. After a mission had gone wrong where Levi and his men had been double crossed, they have all been left with injuries. Some are physical like Stone who lost a leg and some are not so much. But they all carry scares from that day.

Levi is determined to find the last two men on his list and end this once and for all. With Levi being out for blood his relationship with Ice went south. They still work together but they are not together. Levi wants her back. Back in his arms and back in his bed.
Ice wants to sort things out with Levi. She's sick of this unspoken thing that's going on between them. They were good together but that was before there fight of....who knows anymore. It felt like a life time ago. Now there both here, partners in this business, in this house together day in day out, sleeping in different room that are so close together but so far away. She doesn't want that. She wants them together and she wants to be in his bed.
When the company is under attack it's not really the right time for them. It's never the right time for them but they need to make time for them.

I've never really been into Navy or Seals' books even if they are romance books, however I really did enjoy reading this book and I look forward to reading the rest in the series. Levi's Legend was a nice change of pace however I did feel like I needed to be court up on what happened before this book. There is another series Seals of Honor which does have the beforehand. I would recommend to read the other series too (which I will be doing in the near future), maybe before reading this series of Heroes for hire.

I would definitely recommend this book if you are looking for something different than the same rich man who gets the girl after losing her.
