Landon Cross loves working for the Miami homicide team. There was no better feeling when he and his partner Finn would take criminals and murderers off the streets. Sometimes his job took him to other states to track down a suspect that was on the run. This time Landon and Finn were going to New Orleans to track down a suspect in a robbery/murder case. After dealing with the murder of his suspect by a New Orleans gang, watching the interaction with a ‘narc’ and two crooked New Orleans detectives, Landon was ready to go back to Miami. He wanted nothing to do with what was going on in another state or a homicide department that he was not a part of. What Landon didn’t know was that the situation he left in New Orleans would follow him to Miami. Gage Holden made a living being a go-go dancer. He started dancing in clubs to help pay for college and earn his degree in business. After he graduated, he continued to dance until he could save up enough money to buy his own house, and have a little money to fall back on while he looked for a job in the corporate world. Gage wanted to have a “normal” life. He wanted to find a man that he could have a future with. He was tired of hookups in the clubs and one night stands. That was part of his plan for moving on with his life goals as well. After a night of intense sex, Landon and Gage hadn’t seen each other since then. One year later and a brief run in at the mall, they reconnect and go out on an actual date. After a New Year’s event in the park, Landon comes face to face with a woman he went out with once that turned into his stalker. Gage witnesses something that Landon swore wouldn’t interfere with their relationship and flees to the Turks & Caicos Islands. Gage’s heart was ripped out of his chest. Now, Landon has to find Gage and try to fix what has been broken. Will Landon be able to go after him and fix things between them? Will Gage give in and give Landon a second chance? What will happen with the situation in New Orleans and the two crooked detectives? Can Landon keep Gage safe and protected? Will Landon finally find his forever with Gage?
While this book, and the rest of this series is part of my favorite genre of M/M(law enforcement of some kind) it was still a hot mess. I don't remember the rest of the series being this bad, but it has been a while since I read them, so maybe I need to revisit them. Or maybe this one was a one-off of horrendous editing, or really NON-editing and silliness. Who knows. But, seriously, there were so many editing errors. Sooooooo many. Missing words, extra words, misspelling, random quotation marks, missing punctuation, duplicate phrases put into one sentence, wrong homonyms used, etc. They happened often and through the entire book. I don't think there was a single page that didn't have some sort of editing error, and sometimes more than one. It made it really hard to read this book. Like, really hard. And, honestly a grandmother chasing grown men, tough homicide detective men, around and spanking them with a spoon is really over the top and trying too hard to create a "cool" character that really ended up being a dud. I know she's been a fixture in the series, but I think I finally found my breaking point with her character in this one. All in all, this was not a great reading experience. I'm pretty sure that if the editing was done correctly or even if it was done at all, this would have been a solid 3-4 star read for me. But that wasn't the case here. So, if I were you I'd pass on this one until it goes through some sort of editing process. Otherwise, you'll be throwing your kindle across the room in frustration.
