“Who was Jesus?” “Have we any reliable information about him?” “Why was he killed?” “Is the resurrection possible?” “What difference could he make to my life?” If those are some of your questions, then this book is for you! “I have written this book because I am tired of meeting people who dismiss Jesus Christ with a wave of the hand but have never looked into the evidence for themselves. There are many weighty tomes on the subject. I wanted to offer you something brief but accurate and arresting. You must decide whether or not I have succeeded. There are endless discussions about various aspects of Christianity and unbelief. In this short book I leave them on one side and go to the heart of the matter, Jesus Christ himself.” – Michael Green
Edward Michael Bankes Green, known as Michael Green, was a British theologian, Anglican priest, Christian apologist and author of more than fifty Christian books. He served as the Canon Missioner of Holy Trinity Church in Raleigh, North Carolina through 2007.
A Christmas present from a relative but, on balance, I think I'm sceptical that anything Michael Green could have to say isn't something I'd have already heard...
A good introductory book, quite short and very easy to read. It covers the key areas, not in great detail but with enough information to point people in whichever direction they wish to pursue if they want to look deeper. It would be an interesting book for people of different beliefs to read alongside each other and discuss. This book isn't going to convince any of the 'militant atheists' I know, but is a worthwhile read for anyone with an open mind.
This book doesn't seem to truly be written from a sceptics perspective. It has many forms of weird caricatures of atheist positions and false dichotomies. That being said, it is still interesting from a Christian perspective, and gives a decent outline of the resurrection, even if it is a poor representation of any alternative perspective.
"I now believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen, not just because I see it but because by it I see everything else" - Professor Alister McGrath
interesting that he uses similar proofs to those used by muslim preachers, the main point I want to research deeper is the muslim claims that the bible is corrupt or changed, and how the bible was reserved. not that compelling and convincing though, all points can be argued with.
