Let the Hope of Eternity
Shape Your Life Today

Scripture tells us to fix our eyes on the unseen. Rather than focus on what will fade, we're encouraged to lock our gaze on things of eternal value. But how exactly can we do that amid the immediate demands of life?

In this expanded edition of his devotional Seeing the Unseen, Randy Alcorn provides 90 inspirational readings that will help you view today through the lens of the eternal.

As we better grasp the realities of the spiritual realm, we gain a clearer perspective on our present life, including things like suffering, happiness, generosity, and peace. This transformative devotional equips you to live with a right view of eternity--one that will shape not just what you believe, but how you navigate the challenges and opportunities of each day.

I loved Randy Alcorn’s book Heaven, so when I got the chance to review a devotional by Randy, Seeing the Unseen: Expanded Edition, I jumped at the chance. This 90-day devotional book can be read sequentially, or by searching the table of contents for a subject that addresses a particular need. Some of the devotional topics are humility, happiness, God’s sovereignty, giving, grace, love, and forgiveness…and those are just on the first of more than four pages of devotional titles!

The devotions are quite short and each includes a short message, “Perspectives from God’s Word” (related scriptures), “Perspectives from God’s People” (quotes from prominent Christians), and a link to a blog post at Eternal Perspective Ministries about that topic.

From the back cover:

Scripture tells us to fix our eyes on the unseen. Rather than focus on what will fade, we’re encouraged to lock our gaze no things of eternal value. But how exactly can we do that amid the immediate demands of life?

In this expanded edition of his devotional Seeing the Unseen, Randy Alcorn provides ninety inspirational readings that will help you view today through the lens of the eternal.

As we better grasp the realities of the spiritual realm, we gain a clearer perspective on our present life, including things like suffering, happiness, generosity, and peace. This transformative devotional equips to live with a right view of eternity — on that will shape not just what you believe, but how you navigate the challenges and opportunities of each day.

I’ve been reading these devotionals with my family after dinner while we’re still at the table and they’re the perfect length and depth! These readings are appropriate for late elementary age through adult.

Seeing the Unseen is "A 90-Day Devotional to Set Your Mind on Eternity" by Randy Alcorn. Discussing a large variety of topics, Seeing the Unseen is designed to help you learn to live each day purposefully while keeping your mind set on eternity.

Starting with topics such as "Seeing God as the Source" and "Grasping Our Need for Grace", Randy first reminds us at to why we need to focus on eternity and God's plans for our lives. Moving into topics such as "God's Glory, Our Good" and "When It Comes to Heaven, Dream Big", we refocus on the limitless possibilities awaiting us for eternity. Finishing with suggestions for ongoing improvement and self care, such as "Steps to Greater Happiness in Christ" and "Dependence and the Heart of Prayer", Randy leaves us with attainable ways to keep pursuing God in this life, so we may enjoy His eternal presence in the next.

Two pages are devoted to each of the 90 days. Each day's main entry has a personal or Biblical story to illustrate the day's theme in a way that's easy to relate to regardless as to your current circumstances, or how far along you are in your personal pursuit of God. Following the day's entry are quotes from God's Word and additional insights from other inspirational Christians. At the very end of each day is a suggested blog post, article, or video for a more in-depth look at the selected topic.

This devotional would be a good reminder for anyone wanting to focus (or re-focus) their life on God's ultimate plan. 4/5 stars.

“So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal” (2 Corinthians 4:18).
This book will help us to do just that. It’s a book that reminds us that life is short and eternity is long. It encourages us to live for what matters….to not waste our lives. It shifts our focus and gives us a new perspective. I found it to be really helpful and winsome.
This devotional has a similar format to Alcorn’s Grace devotional. Each day starts out with three brief paragraphs on a theme. One of my favorites was “A Theology of Laughter” (Day 27). Alcorn writes, “We are the boring ones, not God. Did we invent wit, humor, and laughter? No. God did. We’ll never begin to exhaust God’s sense of humor and His love for pleasure-filled joy.” Each day ends with two applicable Bible verses and two quotes.
I loved this devotional and will read it over and over. Each entry can be read in a few minutes but has enough to keep me thinking all day. It’s theologically rich but easily understood. I’d highly recommend it.
Thank you to Blogging for Books for providing me with a free copy. I was not required to leave a positive review. All opinions are my own.

This is a “short and sweet” daily devotional by one of my favorite authors Randy Alcorn. Each day has a short topic, perspectives from God’s Word (2 scripture verses), and perspectives from God’s people (2 quotes by Christian authors). I found each day to be very easy to read in a few minutes and something to think about throughout the day.

Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book.

I'm really enjoying this devotional - still working my way through it. I love how it has so many different pieces to bring the whole point together - i.e. mini lesson, verse, quotes (I love a good quote that inspires) and the a blog post to check out. All the pieces build upon on another in a wonderful way.

This book is literally what the title suggests, it is an inspirational guide to set your mind to eternity. The book is formatted in such a way that everyday provides an inspirational reading that “will help you view today through the lens of the eternal” in 90 days. Each chapter or day, gives a short excerpt from Randy Alcorn’s perspective, in addition to perspectives from God’s word and perspectives from God’s people. This book is the perfect daily read for those who are hesitant about the afterlife, or those who are just urning for the reassurance to know that there truly is a heaven.

Safely Home was my first book by Randy Alcorn, and I highly recommend it to everyone. Go figure, me and Christian fiction?

However, as I was on a gorgeous scenic train ride recently, and nursing my little guy, I opened this devotional: Seeing the Unseen by Randy Alcorn, and wow! SO awesome! (@netgalley download)

Each devotional literally takes less than 2 minutes to read, so it makes a great short devotional thought, and will help you with your perspective.

Mundane tasks becoming an investment in God's plan?
Making excuses to minimizingour guilt is minimizing His Grace?

Tell me more! In seeing the unseen, the focus is on gaining an eternal perspective on your daily life activities.

I want more of this!

Each day has a link to an article going deeper into that specific topic, as well as verses and quotes.

Basically, you can spend 2 minutes or 20, but it offers you short devotional thoughts to meditate on throughout the day. .

📌 I received an advance copy of the book from @NetGalley and chose to review it here.
