Cameron Cripps-Hayman is busy getting ready for Canal Days and helping her sister with her shop, Dog Diggity, where they make gourmet dog food. But as Cameron and her sister think they have the shop just about ready to go Cameron stumbles upon another dead body behind the shop. Cameron doesn't know why her luck has gotten so bad to find her second dead body but she worries yet again the police may just blame her.

The police arrive including Cameron's ex who she has been dating again and begin to investigate but it seems they have the wrong suspect when they start looking at Cameron's handyman and she is sure she'll have to solve the crime for them yet again. While juggling her Canal Days responsibilities and that of raising her step-daughter Cameron teams up with the Metamora Action Agency to try to solve the case.

Canal Days Calamity by Jamie M. Blair is the second book in the cozy A Dog Days Mystery series. While it's not completely necessary to have read the first book in the series I would recommend it as while this one involves a whole new case it really jumps right into the story so a reader would be unfamiliar with the setting and characters and dropped in on the action.

I have to admit my biggest draw to this series is the fact it's set in the historic town of Metamora, Indiana and being from Indiana myself I can easily identify the things mentioned in the books such as Indiana Grand or Cedar Point so that makes it just that much more of a fun read for me. The mystery side of this one is a little light as there is so much going on in the main character's life it was sometimes easily forgotten that she was even supposed to be solving a murder. Still with likable characters and a nice setting I find this one quite appealing and will look forward to more in the series.

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

Settle back for an amusing read on a dark and stormy night. The second book is the Dog Days series will keep you turning pages as Cameron Cripps-Hayman manages to get herself in plenty of trouble. Horrors she has found another body behind her sister's new Dog treat store. To make matters worse her handyman is arrested for the murder and it only a week before Canal Days. All the characters are back and new ones have been added. There are plenty of dogs, obedience training, bees and even a duck addicted to Dog treats. I found the flow of the information was jerky.Dog treats recipes included. I recommend this book and series.

Disclosure: I received a free copy from Midnight Ink through NetGalley for an honest review. I would like to thank them for this opportunity to read and review the book. The opinions expressed are my own.

Cameron Cripps-Hayman is in trouble again, another dead body has turned up close to her, so she has to start detecting again. Of course, she should be working on Canal Days, and helping her sister with the opening of her shop Dog Diggity, but these murders don't solve themselves. She's not alone though, the rest of her Metamora Action Agency are on the case with her.

Another fun cozy murder mystery. Jamie Blair has a talent for humorous writing, and I laughed a couple of times out loud at the story. The murder mystery part of the story seems to be even smaller than in the first in this series, and it wasn't that big a part there, but I liked reading it despite, or perhaps because of that. It's clearly going to be a fun cozy mystery series, that I may continue reading.

I remember reading the first book and thinking this was going to be a good series...and I was right! The second book was a little better than the first (in my opinion), the characters a little more fleshed out and a continuing story line with Cam, her husband Ben, her sister Monica, her stepdaughter Mia and a few other wacky characters.

Part of what I like about this book are all the dogs...but in this particular book there is Mike the Duck that steals the spotlight. I think he is trying to become a part of the pack!

There is murder, romance and even some fortune telling! And let's not forget the dog treat recipes at the end of the book. I must try these sometime for my dog, I know she would love them.

I also really liked that after the mystery was solved there was quite a bit more that happened in relation to Canal Days and the town. Sometimes books stop soon after the mystery is solved but this one tied up some loose ends.

Short but cute. She says "good gravy!" way too much. i will never understand how the amateur sleuth could be so unorganized (can't find anything, keep track of appointments or keep their phones charged) but can solve crimes.

e-book freebie from the author. This review reflects my own opinions and is not affected by the giveaway.

Not worth the time. Cameron Cripps-Hayman is too stupid to live. She has FOUR dogs she can't control including two Newfoundlands she hasn't even bothered to name, let alone train. I like her sister Monica better. Monica is opening up a dog bakery and has actually done her homework on what dogs can and can't eat. Monica has enough sense to fall in love with an Irish dog trainer new in town. Cam is married but not married to the local cop, Ben. They're rekindling their relationship by dating and living separately. Cam gets childish when Ben tells her NOT to investigate. He's worried about her getting hurt. Cam is actually at least trying to be a good stepmother to Ben's daughter Mia but for goodness sakes the woman is a terrible dog mother so why is she respondible for a teenager? The police chief isn't too bright and can't solve crimes on his own but it sounds like Ben is more intelligent. He's actually trying to train his dog (#5) to be a police dog. Ben's mother is a nightmare. She apparently is from the oldest family in town and runs a DAR like organization that acts as a female mafia to control the rest of the town. No one will ever be good enough for HER son. Cam's mother has a similar personality. She's hypercritical and controlling. Yikes. Cam's best friends include two senior citizens and two seniors in high school who are more mature than the seniors in age. There's also an elderly eccentric, Elaina, who has an alarming libido for 93 years young.

Oh yes, there's a mystery here somewhere. I don't know who got killed or care who did it. I did figure out one piece of the puzzle before Cam did. Cam doesn't so much solve this mystery as stumble across the evidence. It takes WAY too long to get to the bottom of things.

The cozy plot then continues for a few more chapters. I really liked the Canal Days festival and the cute dogs but that was about it for what I liked. I won't be reading more of this series.

Canal Days Calamity by Jamie M. Blair is an entertaining cozy mystery.
The characters in the book are a mixed bag of personalities and it made the book that more enjoyable.
I would consider this more of a soft cozy mystery, the story was light and cheerful and even though discussion murder, the author continued to keep the mood light.
I would have to read more in the series to see if I would become a long time fan.
This is recommended for people who like a solid, well written story with believable characters.

I voluntarily read an ARC of this book provided by the publisher and NetGalley.

I read Canal Days Calamity by Jamie M. Blair on September 18th, this was a good read and easy enough for me to read in one day. This is a second in series but a first for me and I enjoyed getting to know the characters, the complicated relationship between main character Cam really to me seemed perfect, I loved her step daughter and the premise for the story and mystery. This book is a dog lovers delight and a cozy mystery for sure. Start to finish I was impressed. A very good read. This one is out in November so watch for it or preorder now!

Cam's small town is gearing up for its annual Canal Days (which is something of a Halloween festival so I was glad to find that out) when she finds another dead body. This time around, one of Cam's friends is arrested and she is fearful her father-in-law may have had something to do with it.

It was fun to visit Cam and the other town residents again. In addition, Cam's mother is visiting Cameron and her sister Monica, which brings about a whole new dynamic. Also, some new relationships are forming and the reader gets to see things progress between Cam and her estranged husband, Ben. I love that the author doesn't fall back on the commonly used love-triangle trope, and its refreshing to see things play out as they might in the "real world."

I really wasn't able to figure out the mystery and I have to admit Stormi might have been more on top of it than I was. I love how Cam is always helping stray animals and she even has a new duck follower this time around. "Canal Days Calamity" is a strong followup to "Deadly Dog Days" and I'm curious to see what trouble Cam and her crew find next.

Romance, mystery, and humor are just a few elements I enjoyed in this book. The characters were something else- in a good way. It was a nice small town cozy. Recipe for dog treats included. This story was fun and funny. Check it out. It is the second one in the series but the first I read. It worked well without reading the first but I'd like to go ack and read it if it's this much fun.

**I voluntarily read this ARC**

This was an enjoyable book with an overly complicated mystery. I really liked the family dynamics through the series. Families aren't perfect, and this series definitely shows that.

Not a Mystery?

I am not sure what this story was! It started out with a murder but it also stopped at the same place. Proofing would have been a good thing also. There was no mystery until near the end of this book.

Cameron and her  Metamora Action Agency team are back and they are heading up the Canal Days events. That is if she can keep her mother-in-law out of it.

Metamora is a town that is a bit old fashioned in the fact that it actually has a group that call themselves the Daughters of Metamora and Cam has been fighting with her mother-in-law and the group who has been trying to fine her cause she painted her building the wrong color. Cam has better things to do than worry about that, especially when another body seems to have popped up dead and behind Dog Diggity.

The police arrest Andy her handyman and friend and now she is worried about not being able to get things done for Canal Days. Her sister Monica who is opening Dog Diggity also needs his help to get her shop finished in time for the festivities. Thanks goodness for Old Dan, this older man in town who seems to be pretty handy.

Cam's mother is in town and when she finds out that she needs an in with her mother-in-law Irene, she pays her fine and sort of gets Cam on Irene's good side. Though it's more that her mom wants her to be more dignified and like the Daughters of Metamora but it doesn't really happen. It does give her a reason to poke her nose around and see if she can get the scoop on the dead guys ex-wife and what might have happened to him.

Cam is doing all of this while trying to get ready for Canal days, help her sister get Dog Diggity ready and keep her Metamora Action Agency out of to much trouble. She has her hands full but can also accidently stumble into finding a killer.

This is a fun series and I really like all the characters (well maybe not so much her mom and Irene...lol) though they all make for a well rounded cast of characters. Cam is still trying to work on her marriage as she is still married but he is not living with her though her stepdaughter is and it seems her husband (who is also a policeman) is really trying this go around and maybe they will be able to save their marriage. Her sister Monica  finds a bit of romance this time and he is a nice Irish guy. I think my favorite character has to be Elaine might be my most favorite of all the side characters! She is a spry ninety-three year old who is quite frisky and chases after poor Old Dan. :) She cracks me up!

I really like the storyline an the mystery this book has and I must say I didn't get it all right and I feel like I should of...lol. I guessed part of it so it has a good mystery. I just really like the overall story arc as well.

If you enjoy cozies then you should check out this series!

Pretty much as soon as the story opens, we find Cam and her sister Monica finding a dead body. Just when Cam is right in the middle of planning Metamora's Canal Days and her sister is busy trying to get her dog treats store ready to open, this happens. Cam's husband Ben knows that he can't count on Cam to stay out of the investigation because as it turns out, this is a murder. Add to the mix that Cam and Monica's mom is there in town for a visit and you get all kinds of crazy.

Cam proves herself to be a very good stepmom to Ben's daughter. I liked her little town activities and mystery solving seniors team--two actual seniors and two high school seniors. They all seemed to get along real well. Old Dan was one of my fave characters. He was definitely someone that I would want to know if I lived there. I got a kick out of Cam having so many different dogs and how she'd constantly change the twin dogs's names throughout the story.

I've visited Metamora before so it was very easy to picture small town life here and the canal itself. This was a fairly quick read but a good mystery with enough twists and suspects that I didn't guess what was going on until the author chose to reveal it. The ending and take down were pretty exciting so now I'd like to go back and read the first book and see what happened in that one. This book stood alone very well though. The author explained briefly what went down in the first book so I was easily able to know who was who.

I hope the series continues because I'd like to see Monica's store continue to do well, find out whether their mom moves to Metamora to be near the guy she just met and of course to see if Ben and Cam can make a better go of their marriage which exists but he doesn't live with Cam and his daughter.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

This cozy mystery may have had a dead body and some bad guys, but for the most part it was a very upbeat book. A sister who finds love. A mother who divorced the father but when visiting her daughters finds a new man. A teenager who is snarky ends up being loving and helpful. And a main character who is trying to save her marriage is hopeful about her husband. All this and more takes place the week before Canal Days, an all town celebration that our main character (Cameron) is in charge of with the help of her 4 seniors called the Metamora Action Agency. With the four others (2 senior citizens and 2 seniors in high school) they were the committee responsible for putting together Canal Days, a festival that pulled tourists and their money into town. Only this year everything that could go wrong did go wrong! Beginning with a dead body, and continuing through three innocent men being arrested for the murder it is problem after problem. Being married to a policeman doesn't help Cam solve the murder, but somehow between helping her sister bake dog treats and taking clarinet lessons, Cam never stops trying.
A funny book at times, it certainly is chock full of colorful characters with plenty of quirks. Small town living at it's best includes everyone knowing more than you yet not sharing what you need to know!

This story is about a middle aged woman who is seperated from her husband who happens to be the local cop in town. Cam has a knack for coming across dead bodies. Her sister just moved to town and is trying to open a business selling home baked treats for dogs. They want to have the store open by the end of the week when they are celebrating canal days, but finding a dead body sitting on a bench in front of her store kind of puts a kink in her plans.
Cam is working hard as chair person for the canal days celebration, this is a yearly fall festival filled with crafts, baked goods, farmers market, pet parade, hay rides and a newly added pageant.Sometimes Cam bites off more than she can chew and gets overwelmed with everything.
Cam puts her nose where it dont belong and plays detective trying to solve the murder which her husband told her to leave it to the police, but she doesnt listen and before she knows it shes in over her head..
The ending was predictable even for me, usually im wrong but not this time.. The story was more focused on other things than the actual murder mystery..It was like the author remembered, oh yeah, this is a murder mystery, I better write in another clue.. It was still an ok cozy read...

This was entertaining but I'm not going to continue to read this series. There are only so many times the expression 'good gravy' can be used in a book and this book went way over the limit.

Another day, another murder. This time, the body is found by Cam, our heroine, behind her sister Monica's store. Though Monica is not a suspect, Cam's handyman/best friend is and Cam sets out to clear his name. With her motley team, Metamora Action Agency, she pokes around to solve the murder.

Cam's well-intentioned but she takes on so many responsibilities that parts of her life fall by the wayside. Her marriage is still shaky, her step-daughter still requires guidance, and her dogs still need training. Her mother is in town and her mother-in-law is ridiculous. She doesn't trust her husband to do his job and steps in with interference that's almost breath-taking. Wouldn't be nice if the people hired to do a job were given time to do it before the amateurs need to intervene?

It has been a few days since I closed the cover on this book, but my copy didn't seem completely proofread. There were several instances of malaprops which were jarring.

I like the small-town setting, but some of the relationships are just terrible.

This is book 2 in the “Dog Days Mysteries” series. There were a lot of references to what happened in book 1. So even though I had no problem reading this fun story, I think starting with book 1 would be helpful. I can then see things grow and progress. I found this a wonderfully fun cozy where Cam seems to find another dead body. It is in the small town of Metamora which has a lot of fun characters. Her husband is a police officer and her sister and mom wound up helping her find the killer. A fun read that I would read again.

I find these easy to read mysteries delightful. Our main character has a knack for finding dead bodies and then, of course, feels the need to solve the murder. As a result of her sleuthing she has 5 dogs, a sister now staying with her and opening a business, a visiting mother, in-laws who live in the same small town and a police officer husband who is presently living elsewhere but they are dating.

I have read Book 1 and 2 and am looking forward to Book 3.

How Cute!

OK, so Cam and the gang have another mystery on their hands with the death of a farmer who's body ends up just where Cam has gone to look for a store where she and her sister Monica can sell their new product, specialty dog biscuits. Their new adventure in sales keeps them busy, but not too busy to solve this mystery and get into trouble at the same time.

I’m still trying to get use to these short cozy mystery novels. It was ok and funny at times. Ima also getting to know the characters to it makes it easier to follow. Cam figured out the man killed himself so that his land would no to to Avery, but Avery hired someone to make a fake will.
