CLAY BRENTWOODRANCHER TURNED GUNMAN ON THE VENGEANCE TRAIL! ENZO BABINEAUX WAS PURE EVIL. His mouth salivated as he watched the healthy looking young woman with the fiery red hair putting gold nuggets into a leather pouch. She had no hat on and her red hair glistened in the sunshine. He would take his time with this one, he thought to himself. He would make her scream and beg for him to let her die. He enjoyed it best when they begged. Enzo didn’t know it, but the only problem with his plan was that, although you would never know it from looking, the girl knew she was being watched. It was the big Morgan she rode that had raised his head from where he stood eating grass, letting her know that someone or something was nearby. “Well”, she thought to herself, “if he wants to try something stupid...”
Not enough room here. Suffice to say, besides being a writer for many years - Stringer for several newspapers, my own bi-line for articles in SAG and AFTRA mags., short story writer, screenwriter, and now two books, I'm also a blue water sailor, been a carnival barker, wrestled an ape on exhibition, rode the rails as a hobo for the experience, rodeo clown, storyteller, stand-up comic, MC, electrician, power lineman, owned several companies, circus clown, over 20 years as a prof. actor; Stage, Film and Television, along with some other stuff I can't think of right now. As my good friend, Jimmy Stewart once said, It really is a Wonderful Life.
Cinch Mountain is full of action and intrigue, I loved it! Jared is developing Clay Brentwood into a character that you never know what is going to happen to him as he continues his journey home to return to his "normal" life as a rancher. We met Loralie Benson in Book 3, Hammershield. She is also trying to rebuild her homestead on Cinch Mountain after a horrible tragedy and how Jared intertwines their quests is pure genius. If you enjoy a good western, I highly recommend the entire Clay Brentwood series. I personally did not read many westerns until I discovered Jared McVay. Thank you for these books and keep on writing!
Clay Brentwood, Texas Ranger, whose ranch was burned down, and his wife who was pregnant were murdered by a gang of owlhoots. He gets caught in a lot of adventures going after a gang led by a woman who robbed the bank at Fort Smith, Arkansas. Then he meets up again with Lorelei Benson, whose parents were murdered by Silas Mullins and his sons. The deaths were blamed on Indians because her parents were scalped...a shame how persons who cheat, steal, murder others folks for what they've worked so hard for something for, is taken from them. This what happened to Lorelei Benson, by herself she's going to fight for what belongs to her. Clay Brentwood is on his way to Cinch Mountain to help her. Great series....
So sad to have such a wonderful story, relatable characters, and so badly needing a proofreader. Mr. McVay has a never ending love affair with the word "ah". Why throw an 'h' on the end when the letter 'a' would suffice? Mr. McVay is so talented but the 'ah's and the 'ta's became so monotonously evident that I grew weary of reading this story. Please invest in an editor or a proofreader to clear up some grammatical errors and misspellings and this would easily be a 5+ star series. Without a doubt, one of the most talented writers I have come across in a long, long while.
The Clay Brentwood rocks!!! I haven't sat back and read a good western in a coon's age...Went through the series faster than a fox in a forest fire!!Keep em comin'..p.s. the guy watchin the horses is a hostler..not a holster..thanks for a good ride!!!!

Wow! Another wonderful book in the Clay Brentwood Series! Jared McVay is a great storyteller. Pulls you in until the very end and leaves you yelling, noooo... just a few pages more. Thankfully there's another book waiting. I love the way he writes his characters. You either love them or hate them, no second thoughts. I love Loralie. And this book is loaded with surprises, love how he brought in a few characters from a book by another favorite author. An unexpected but happy surprise. Just downloaded Stone Mountain Book 5. JudyE
Mr. McVay is a western writer of excellent westerns in the same class and possibly a bit better than Louis LaMour. Clay Brentwood series is an excellent example of a great western. Highly recommend his books. I can hardly wait to read each one.
I read the 1st book which I really enjoyed then I immediately moved on to the next story. After I finished that story, I bought the next 2 books, finished them and now I’m starting book # 5. I really enjoy good westerns.
