Sweet Fix

Rate this book
Trig Kendal

Almost from the first moment, I needed her. Craved her. My sweet and sassy and brilliant Maggie. But she’s ten years younger than me. Too young. Barely nineteen.

I told myself I couldn’t have her. I told myself all I wanted was for her to be safe. In truth, she was my addiction. She was my sweet fix until she became my wife. It’s just an arrangement. A marriage of convenience. Something to keep her by my side and safe until the threat passes.

Maggie Callaghan

I’ve been on my own since my mother died. Sure, I’ve been in foster care, but that didn’t mean I wasn’t utterly alone. So why does Trig assume he needs to watch over me? Because he’s older? Wiser? He seems to think he needs to scare me straight. And he does. But the man who frightens me is also the man who haunts my wicked dreams.

When he steps in with an offer of help, and a marriage in name only, I accept.

With a whispered vow, I’m out of the pot and into the fire.

4.5 I Want What You Want Stars ⭐

This book is a hidden gem. I was hankering for a good blue collar romance and after digging around on GR I found this. Not criticizing the cover, however it doesn't really translate into the story. Here you're expecting a smutty, marriage of convenience romance, yet it was so much better than that.

I’d like to think she dreams of me and that in her dreams she wants me like I want her. It’s wrong and totally fucked up but I can’t help what I want.

Maggie is already 18 when she's shuffled into another foster home. She's bitter and disillusioned and just waiting to finish high school so can hightail it out of there. However this feisty teen has been placed in a loving home that also comes with a very involved uncle that has her pegged as trouble.

Trig, knows what good people his brother and sister in law are. They are now fostering 5 children including Maggie. They don't need a bitchy teen upsetting the balance so he puts Maggie on the straight and narrow. And what a blessing that is all round.

I've never enjoyed the development and pace as much as I did in this wonderful story. A realistic amount of time where you see Maggie letting down her guard, realizing the chance she's been given and growing to appreciate this new family. And in the background, Trig is standing watch making sure she doesn't falter or mess up along the way.

Silently, I plea for him not to let me go. He’s all I want. My life is a mess, but he’s all I want, because I’m an expert at wanting things I can never have. It’s my superpower.

Sweet Fix has a shaky beginning. Initially your wondering if you've stumbled into a creepy, pervy age gap romance but seriously you haven't. There is real goodness between these pages filled with great intentions and wonderful people.

Through it all you see this attraction grow from resentment between Trig and Maggie and it's delicious. Add in a marriage of convenience between two people who secretly adore each other, this is exactly what adult fairytales are made of. I wish this story was more popular because it's certainly deserving! 💚💚

BR with Rain. The best reading partner who entertains my whims and gives everything a try. Luckily we scored gold!

*4.5* I was a little apprehensive after reading the premise, but the story quickly won me over.

✔️Foster youth (she 18)
✔️Marriage of convenience
✔️Age gap
✔️Alpha mechanic/teddy bear
✔️Slow burn but with simmer
✔️Excellent character arcs

Honestly, the synopsis doesn't show what a tender and sweet love story this is. It's a slow burn, but done just right with the perfect amount of smoldering simmer.
We’ll have a pretend marriage, even though everything I feel for Maggie is one-hundred-percent real.
It's a little odd/slow at the beginning, wasn't sure I was feeling it, but it soon captured all my attention and I ended up loving the story.

There were a few plot holes (kinda felt like the author dropped a few chapters), but nothing too significant to change my overall feeling of the story. Excellent hea and epilogue!

Thanks to my BR, Isabella, for bringing this one to my attention! The timing was perfect for this sweet love story. Plot holes? Who cares, I still loved it!

IT'S NOTHING SPECIAL!

I tried to get back into this book and noticed why I left it for sooooo long!
It's just been done before and to be honest it's been done better.
I really was hoping for a more gripping story that would allow me to fall in love with the characters but this sadly didn't happen.

Sasha Gold has some very good stories with some interesting and captivating storylines, this is not one of them in my opinion.

** 3.5 stars **

I gotta admit, I ended up really liking this story. I was beginning to worry because it had a slow start and I couldn't see how things were going to turn around for this couple.

I was fully expecting the run of the mill older man/younger woman, instalove story and that was not the case at all. This was a hate to love story. The hero, Trig, is brothers with the heroine's foster-father. He doesn't trust her (with good reason) and let's her know as much. Even going so far as a "scared straight" tactic.

Trig is 10 years older than the heroine. He has no intentions of settling down. He spends his weekends fighting and picking up women. That all changes with Maggie. He was devoted to her even when he thought he wouldn't have her.

Maggie was.....well I'm not going to sugar coat it - initially she was a bitch. She had bounced between several foster homes and she didn't trust anyone anymore. Even though she found herself in a home with people who seemed to genuinely care, she didn't trust it. Once she started to finally trust them, she was a much better heroine.

I was a little disappointed with the steam level of the book. There was a couple "steamier" scenes but they weren't super hot (with the exception of the bonus chapter that was very steamy). The couple did not have any intimacy until the 85% mark.

~pushing away - I would say that they both pushed each other away
~no ow/om drama
~no cheating
~wish there was more story with them as an actual couple
~Epilogue that was 4 years later

Too YA/NA for me. I do not read books about high school students. Super slow burn. Almost enemies to lovers. Just did not work well for me.

This book! Wow! I loved it! It was so much more than what I was expecting. I have read a couple books by this author, which I loved, but they had a completely different feel to them. To be frank, I wasn't expecting this book to be as deep as it was. This couple didn't even truly get together until close to the end and I didn't even care, that's how much I loved their journey.

Maggie is 18 years old and going to another foster home. Her past experiences with foster parents were not good. She's never known what it feels like for someone to truly care about her. She knows her mom loved her before she died, but she was never truly put first. When she finally lands with foster parents Wes and Jane, who genuinely care, she isn't willing to trust it. She figures she's 18 and can leave to start her own life. This is where Trig, Wes' brother, steps in. When Trig realizes Maggie is about to take off, he intervenes by scaring her straight and demanded she give Wes and Jane her last year of High School before she leaves.

The author did such a beautiful job of showing Maggie's transformation. She started out so angry with the world and just blossomed under Wes, Jane and Trigs care. Throw in four young boys also being fostered by the Kendals and seeing them all grow in that love, well it was just beautiful.

The transition of Trig going from being someone she can count on, to something more, flowed nicely. Their attraction was always there but just simmering in there background. It never got inappropriate. Once they finally were able to acknowledge their attraction, it just seemed right.

This is a slow burn that had heart.

***Bonus Chapter from the author is smokin hot!

For being almost novella sized, Sweet Fix felt like an almost fully fleshed out romance. The characters were interesting, the romance was mostly not creepy, and if anything my main complaint is that I wish Sweet Fix was longer.

“I want what you want and if you like school, then I’m going to do what I can to make it happen for you. I’ll pay your tuition. For you, I’ll always do whatever it takes.”

See, my three (plus a few extra stars) are actually because, unlike the general consensus, I wanted a bit more slow-burn. It just … it's hard to explain. I think I wanted Maggie to have a bit more space to move out of teenager-hood.

Moreover, the random “let's get married to avoid getting deported” plot line was hilariously nonsensical. Luckily, the judge was hella impressed by that ginormous rock on Maggie's finger.

Despite my little issues I have to say, Sweet Fix was way better than it had any right to be. Love when that happens, ngl.

A short book that's actually slow burn? Yep! And as someone that loves slow burn I was pretty surprised.

Also don't let the cover fool you, while there is some steam in this it's on the less steamy end and not frequent.

It's actually a pretty sweet (ha!) story and has the marriage of convenience trope which is one of my favorites and was done really well.

Definitely recommend if you want a short read that still packs loads of story and heart.

This story had heart, the characters had such potential but the writing was sorely lacking. As I was reading I kept thinking that in the hands of a better writer this story could have been so much sweeter, the characters would have had far more depth, the dialogues would have been believable and would have the ability to convey complex emotions, basically - total re-read material.
They also lacked chemistry, I couldn't feel it in most places. For me, if the writing isn't great but there's palpable chemistry, I consider that a win. But if both shut me out of the experience, then 😢

There was one dialogue at 60% mark that was victim shaming? Threw me off especially considering who it was coming from (not the MMC). There's no SA, FYI.

The story is sweet so I'm a little torn between recommending this and not recommending this.

Sweet Fix Lives Up To It's Name

This was definitely a great read. From the plot to the romance, I got my fix. An alpha dominant hero, a troubled yet brave younger heroine and a sweet love you can't help but love.

Ok, hear me out.

Sweet Fix was definitely not what I was expecting.
The first couple of chapters alone kind of gave me an “uh oh” moment until I learned what was happening.

Trig’s protectiveness towards Maggie was both a bit creepy at times, yet noble in others.

Watching their relationship flourish and grow over the course of months was truly necessary for you to adapt to Maggie’s side of the story.

I think the biggest issue (well, not BIG BIG but kind of uncomfortable per say) was the age difference – Maggie, 19 years old to Trig’s 29 years old.

Overall, the development of the story was perfectly delivered and regardless of your doubts while reading it, you can’t help but support this unique relationship.

And the ending? Exactly what I was hoping for.

Build up dragged too much for me. Heroine is a foster child to a couple who also fostered four young boys. Hero is the younger brother of her foster father. She tries to runaway one day but the tracking app the hero had on her phone allowed him to find her and bring her back home...after taking her to his house and scaring the sh!t out of her first to get her to agree to stay at his brother's house until she graduated high school. She was almost 19, he was 29. He promised her if she stuck around, he'd take her wherever she wanted to go after she graduated. He was protective of her but never did anything because he felt she was too young.

Much later in the book she gets arrested for shoplifting, not her fault, the fault of the "friends" she was hanging out with and it comes out that she has a Green Card (she had come to the US with her mom when she was 3 months old) and that because of the arrest and her previous record in the foster system, that she could be deported. Hero suggests a MOC, a paper marriage, until things settle down. This happens in Chapter 24 of 36, at the 65% mark. They spend a few weeks in their MOC where he barely talks to her while she attends college (at this point she's graduated high school early and has started taking college classes.) It's not until the 80% mark that he finally gives in to his feelings and kisses her (up until then the only time they've ever had any physical interaction is the kiss at their wedding and the kiss/hickey he gave her weeks before when he was drugged out on meds because of headaches he gets...he never remembered what happened until weeks later when he accused her of having someone all over her who gave her that hickey and she told him the only one who did that was him.)

In Chapter 32 of 36, 84% on the Kindle, she and one of her foster brothers are involved in an accident...the van she was driving gets swept away by flooded roads and she has to save herself and her foster brother. It's at that point that the hero tells his brother that he and Maggie are no longer pretending and takes her home to take her to bed. Uh, OK. It's all rushed from that point on. Immigration court date arrives soon after that, hero tells the judge that he's prepared to sell his garage (family business) and move to Ireland with his wife if she's deported. Of course she ends up not getting deported, they exchange I Love Yous and it's all HEA for them but for me this just dragged.

Epilogue occurs four years later, they have a little baby by this time (he's 9 months in the epilogue) and Maggie is expecting again.

Blown away again 💞😍💞😍

Everytime I pick up a Sasha Gold book I am taken by surprise. It's like she simply gets better and better. The Queen of slow burn, with Sizzling sexual tension so thick I feel like it's seeping from my kindle with its intensity. This book took those elements to an entirely different level. I went from curiosity to anger at Trig.. That was the first part of the book. My anger had this skin deep feeling of wonder, confusion and frustration. How could he make me so mad and still I needed more of him? Then slowly like the magician Sasha is she peeled back those thick layers he's got built up like the scars he wears. He went from protector to a man who'd do anything just to provide, guide and simply be a part of this young woman's life. His attraction grew at a level that turned my emotions on their head. He fell so slowly yet so completely I actually felt the love so deep I had tears. There's nothing, and I mean nothing like an alpha hero who is dead set on taking on the world for the woman he loves. Maggie had sadness, and loneliness in her life.. Like a castaway she never felt like she belongs anywhere. Trig was a mystery to get, strong, angry and full of power she couldn't help but respond to. Her fear turned to longing and her response grew to a soul deep yearning. When Trig stepped up with a bone deep dedication I sighed with romance perfection.

Sasha you take my heart and you make it beat to the rhythm of such beautiful love stories penned into pages of beauty. Like a storm that is chaotic and calming all at the same time. I savor these stories and space them out.. Lady you really have no clue at the talent you have on one chapter compared to whole novels that scream best seller. I will not stop screaming read Sasha Gold till every single romance loving person hears your name.

A bit weird in the beginning, but it turned out okay in the end.
I really didn't like the first part of this book, I even put it aside bc I didn't want to read it anymore.
However, I wanted to see the ending which turned out okay - it was sweet, but the whole story was so so.

"Sweet Fix" is the story of Maggie and Trix.
Let me start by getting it out that in the first half of the story I thought the hero was a Hannibal Lecter-esque maniac and the heroine was an immature brat. I however am glad that I didn't give up on this book.
Maggie is a foster child taken in by Jane and Wes, who have four other little foster boys. In the first half of the book, she's childish, inconsiderate and annoying- and tries to escape the family with their money- when she's caught by Wes's scarred brother Trig, taken to the basement of his home- and threatened to be sold.
Well, till then I wasn't into the story at all and pretty annoyed by it.
However, as the story progresses, we see Maggie maturing and genuinely caring for her family, getting good grades, not behaving like a 5 year old- and Trig having feelings for her and not roughing her up like a psychopath. There's character growth and starting of a chemistry between the leads.
They end up getting pretend married because of her immigration status, and after minor hitches, find their HEA.
Overall, this book had ups and downs but is a good story in the second half. Slow burn romance.
Lovely epilogue.

I love her books! This was a bit of a slow burn. Nothing actually happens until around the last 80% but you don't even mind cause the story is so nice. Trig will irritate you for probably half the book as he is first skeptical, then overbearing to Maggie but it's also super sweet how that morphs from protectiveness to love. My heart ached for Maggie but once she let her guard down and started to let others in it was heartwarming. Her little brothers provided some hilarious moments too which had me smiling like an idiot at my kobo!

Gut wrenching and heart warming.

What an incredibly beautiful story. Maggie has been shuttled from family to family in foster care until she ends up with the kendals for the last few months until she graduates HS. Shes afraid to trust or get close to anyone, believing that no one will want her for very long.

Trig is the brother to Maggie’s foster dad. A terrible car crash took the lives of his parents and sister and left him with deep scars, both physical and emotional. Until Maggie he’s never been tempted to keep a woman around for more than a night or two.

But when he makes it his business to keep a watchful eye on Maggie after she tries to run away, he soon finds himself craving the innocent 19 year old (he’s only 29) but he fights his primitive urges and does his best to resist her. But when circumstances coalesce where they end up living together, trigs willpower can only go so far.

I loved the emotional depth between these two, the slow build up and their battling their demons. They’re connection was super sizzling and passionate. This was an awesome love story. ❤️💕❤️💕❤️💕❤️

I might have given up on this, it was slow to build and the h was unlikable in the beginning. But if you stick with this, you get to see the h grow and become likable, the secondary characters are endearing, and the romance becomes so very sweet and tender. I would have liked more couple time but ultimately, it won me over.

2.7 ⭐️ un libro molto leggero e dolce… ma secondo me mancava l’alchimia tra i protagonisti..

⭐️T R A M A ⭐️

This was a new author for me and I have to say I am a fan now. Sweet Fix is a sweet, yet hot, story about a girl who lost everything when her mom died and she is shuffled for one foster family to the next and a man who has gone through his own pain when he is the only survivor of a car accident that leaves him in the hospital and his brother the only other surviving member of his family. When Maggie is moved into the Kendal family she is just biding her time until she can take off on her own, what she didn't count on was Trig, her foster dad's brother, coming after her and putting himself in charge of looking after her. The two of them are attracted to each other, yet both deny the feelings, until Maggie is in danger of being sent back to Ireland and completely alone. Trig and Maggie are such an amazing couple, even though he is 10 years older than her they fit. I can't say enough how much I loved this book. I read Sweet Fix as it was a bonus story in Kept by the Beast, and it is in fact an enjoyable romance. Trig is a dark Alpha male with all-seeing eyes and he sums up his brother's foster daughter in a trice. When Maggie tries to make a break for it, Trig blocks her way and frightens her into accepting her situation. Tough love, but it worked and Maggie slowly comes to a place where she accepts the generous family who have given her a home. She even comes to accept her noisy foster brothers, especially after their generous sacrifice. On the surface of things, this is a taboo story but Maggie and Trig need each other to ultimately reach healing and fulfilment. Despite appearances Trig is a generous protective guy and he doesn't act on his feelings for Maggie until they have been married for a while. When he does, Maggie is more than ready to meet the challenge.

Maggie is a foster kid, that gets taken in by a wonderful couple who already have little boys they foster as well. They really are the sweetest couple. Trig is the brother of her foster dad. These two have crazy chemistry, but even though she’s almost 19, they keep their distance and just nitpick at each other. He catches her trying to leave her foster family’s home and scares her straight, basically. She’s trying to finish high school, and she’s pretty much a genius. I loved reading her progression through the book and how she really blossoms and learns to embrace her foster family. She ends up getting into some trouble that another kid caused, so they talk of deporting her. She and Trig get married, which is exactly what he wants. And they never separate.

This was a slow burn, safe read, no om or ow drama, an epilogue and an hea.

Maggie, who's mother passed away & ended up in the system, has had a hard time with previous foster parents & ends up with Wes and Jane, who genuinely cares about her. However Maggie doesn't trust easily & when she turns 18, she thinks she can leave to start her own life. Trig who's 10 yrs olden than Maggie, is Wes's brother who's had his own heartache when he was in a car accident & being the only survivor of the accident. When he realizes Maggie's plan, he decides to get involved to protect them from heartache with her, he scares her and demands that she finishes High School before she leaves. This is a older man, younger woman sweet story which started of slow at first, but i enjoyed it.

A sweet little romance with a very unique beginning. Both Trig and Maggie are interesting characters. The dynamics that bring the two together are a little intolerant is most situations. I'm glad everything works out for them.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
