This book contains good advice for anyone with a job that depends on socializing with the general public. I wish more people would read this to improve communication. The format of the audio-book is like listening to a series of TED talks with several authors and voices.
When I started listening to this, I had some déjà vu that I had heard it before. I had last listened to an audiobook about charisma a few years ago. It had 5 or so sections that were all parts of other audiobooks, put together as a kind of sampler with content related only by topic. I found that sampler lacking, as you got small sections of content that didn’t really complete the thoughts they brought up. It ends up this is also a collection of 5 different sections from different authors/narrators. But this is put together less as a sampler and more as cohesive set of suggestions of how to network, especially for those who don’t feel they are charismatic extroverts. If I recall correctly, 3 of the sections are narrated by an author in a sound booth just like a short audiobook. Another section is a mindfulness and relaxation exercise aimed at preparing one to network to their fullest (“close your eyes”). And the last section is an audio recording of a seminar. The narrated segments are done in a breezy way, much like a seminar but without an audience. There’s laughter and verbal mistakes, but it feels more real than typical narrated audiobooks. I found the advice pretty basic. Much of one section was Dale Carnegie updated with current language. But as a reminder, I found this an OK selection. I appreciated the production and the concept. My expectations for this set were pretty low, and I found this surpassed my expectations.
Praise for the book “Talk to Anyone: Tips for Socialising & Developing Charisma”by Chris Widener. The book provide tips and techniques for
Starting conversations with confidence • Building rapport and connection with others • Developing charisma and charm • Handling awkward situations and silences • Improving body language and nonverbal communication • Asking effective questions and listening actively • Showing genuine interest in others • Building self-confidence and self-esteem
Chris Widener's book is designed to help readers become more confident and charismatic in social situations, and to improve their ability to connect with others. The tips are practical, easy to apply, and cover various social situations, from meeting new people to building deeper relationships.
It is a decent enough basic guide to holding a moderately adequate conversation.
I just feel other books I have read on the topic seemed richer and more effective.
This book has what I felt was a high level shallow approach where my goals for conversation are passion, authenticity, deeper emotional connection. Better books would be something like How to Win Friends by Dale Carnegie.
I may be being overly judgemental about the book, and I did have to abandon after 20% read.
